We were excited to have breakfast here after reading reviews, but I wish I could say the experience was great. Our waitress was probably the most unhappy person that we've encountered on our trip. She was younger, impatient, and seemed extremely bothered that we had 2 children in our party of 6. This was noticed by everyone at our table. She didn't even take the entire party's drink order and only realized it when she finally did bring the drinks out. The restaurant was not very busy, only a few tables were filled. The food was mediocre at best. The fajita omelette was not so great. The chicken tasted old and I picked it out of the omelette. The home fries were burnt and very greasy. Also, the pancakes that 3 out of our party of 6 had were not so great...and pancakes are pretty hard to mess up. I'm giving 3 stars to this place because the lady at the cash register was very nice...it's too bad we didn't have her as our waitress. read more

The food was amazing! Didn't get any pictures but 10/10. The deluxe omelet was the best I've ever had! My little boy got the grilled cheese and fries and ate every bite! The prices were decently priced as well, $67 dollars for a family of 5 and we had a full table. Service was good and so was the atmosphere. Best breakfast in Wilmington. You have to come to the Island, and bring CASH, but we've been here four times now and the food, service and quality is always soooo good. Very affordable, around $7.95 for plate with half order of French toast, two eggs, three bacon... (just as an example). My favorite breakfast joint in the area. It overlooks the marina so you can stare at all the docked boats and read their funny sea names. Free on-premise parking is somewhat limited, but there's tons of municipal pay parking directly across the street. Wait times can vary based on tourist volume and time of season. I came here a couple times during my recent stay in Carolina Beach. Generally, a convenient place to go...but I'm not sure I would have picked to come here myself. It just happens to be a "go to" location for my family that lives by the beach. The first time I came here was for dinner, and I ordered coffee and a turkey club sandwich. The coffee was good, but the sandwich itself was falling apart a bit, had a LOT of mayonnaise, and some of the lettuce looked wilted or like it was losing color/turning white. Another visit, my grandmother and I met my aunt and uncle here during lunchtime. Though the staff here is very sweet and friendly, it took quite a while for anybody to get over to the table to take our drink or food order. We all ordered basically the same thing... coffee and open-faced turkey sandwiches with green beans and mashed potatoes. Generally, the food was pretty good...though I wasn't a fan of the green beans, which seemed to be right out of a can or something (they tasted acidic). My aunt also happened to let it slip during our order that it was my birthday. The pro of that? A slice of cake on the house that we could all split. The negative? Singing waitstaff. I flush so easily, so needless to say that I wasn't super thrilled with a bunch of waitstaff singing and all the attention. It was sweet though, so I tried to go with it. Anyway, pretty convenient to Carolina Beach. Cash only, so remember to stop at the ATM. Friendly mom and pop-style atmosphere. So a friend and I made a day trip to the beach from Durham and the seafood lover that I am required me to find a restaurant to have dinner at. We were looking for a place that was low key. The restaurant had a "hometown diner" feel. We were greeted and seated quickly. I was excited about the seafood options but was not sure what I wanted to eat that I decided to ask our server for recommendations. I thought it was funny when her recommendations were my top choices. I decided on the crab stuffed flounder with a baked potato and instead of coleslaw I was glad to hear that I could substitute that for another side-broccoli/bacon salad-yum! I enjoyed my meal but my eyes couldn't help but wonder to all of the plates of calabash seafood being served around me that I placed a to go order of the calabash shrimp and wow, it was cooked to perfection!! There were 25 shrimp, fries, and I got the side of rice pudding. I picked at a few shrimp but most of them I smacked on as I made the almost 2.5 hour drive back to Durham. The only thing I wish that our server had mentioned that it was a cash only restaurant, as I totally overlooked the notification on the front door. They have an atm on site which got me for a $2.75 fee which really isn't that big of a deal bc I thought that everything else about the experience was wonderful. In talking with the staff I was surprised to learn that they still receive paper paychecks. Technology is not something they seemed to be up to par with, but their seafood was perfect! read more

We really enjoyed this diner-type restaurant across from the marina. Service was excellent and the food was delicious. I had the 3 egg western omelet, grits, and a homemade biscuit. Very hot and tasty. My husband had the eggs benedict and loved it. There is a small lot for parking so we didn't have to pay the steep CB street parking. They serve breakfast all day. LGBTQ+ Beware. My partner and I were recommended this restaurant by a coworker. We decided to go for a little morning date today and now wish we would have gone somewhere else. The food was fine, but it wasn't worth the poor service. We came in around 11 am and there were 3 other tables being served, and 4 waitresses walking around. We sat and watched other people come in after us, be served, and be given their bills before we even received our food. We were blatantly ignored by staff. I hate claiming the homophobia card, but whether it was on purpose or not, there was a bias and we had less than acceptable service than other clientele. Was in town visiting and told this was THE breakfast place to go to in Carolina Beach. The groups of people waiting outside suggested the same, though that might have been because it's rather small and there's really no place to wait inside (so keep that in mind if the sun is blazing out). Service was friendly and fast enough, but the food didn't really do it for me. My chicken fried chicken was rather small (looked like half of a half breast) and overcooked, gravy was closer to room temp and rather bland, and my "over-medium" eggs ran for miles. Great food but service by the nasty acting waitresses Tonie was less than desirable. I waited at my table for at least 15 minutes as she bounced all around me at different tables helping others. When I asked for the ticket and the go box she got angry and threw her hands in the air as to say I was disturbing her. As if!! I had to leave!! The one bright and shining star off the whole thing was the hostess, Ella!! Such a nice young lady. Gulf Stream is a simple little place serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, they serve breakfast all day. I called in an order for pick up, I got there about 15 minutes after placing the order and still had to wait 10 minutes for the fish sandwich and ham, egg & cheese biscuit. One part of the menu says "homemade biscuit", but it kinda seemed like one of those heat-n-serve type freezer biscuits to me, but it was still pretty good, the ham was great and the egg was done just right. The fish sandwich was outstanding, it had a big piece of perfectly fried flounder with lettuce, tomato, onion and pickles along with tartar sauce on the side. The menu has a good selection to choose from, they offer a little something for everyone. Seafood, Salads, Sandwiches, Burgers, Spaghetti, Lasagna and Fried Chicken to name a few items along with a variety of their own specialty dishes and of course the all day breakfast. Yum! Went to Gulf Stream for dinner while in Carolina Beach for vacation. A cute, small, local place with yummy food. I got the chicken alfredo pasta and really enjoyed it! You could tell the alfredo sauce was homemade and there was a lot of chicken in it. Other members of my party got cajun pasta, a seafood platter, and chicken tenders. All got great reviews except chicken tenders were nothing special - but kind of expected at a seafood place. Overall enjoyed it! read more

Cash only which is peculiar since this a beach town and your tab could get quite pricey. Several servers were not following the mask requirements which made us feel uncomfortable. Great ambience, classic rock playing in the background, clean, expertly decorated. Server sort of non-descript. No smile, speaking "how many, table or booth", like it's torture. Was quick with drink refills and ice for my tea, though. Ordered homemade corned beef hash with a poached egg, biscuit, home fries. Wow, delicious, and didn't mind the extra home fries. They are the best. Brewed tea, yummy. We plan to return for other meals in the future. My guy ordered his regular...2 eggs scrambled, toast, grits, link sausage. All as expected, but the link sausage was little, like Jimmy Dean from the box, but had 3, so kinda was ok. He was expecting the Carolina link sausage. Anyway, worth the stop, and cash only. We have been to Gulf Stream numerous times and have always enjoyed our food. In fact, we have bragged about it as a hidden gem on CB. The past few months it has gone downhill to the point that I had to review. We took some friends that were visiting us to Gulf Stream for breakfast in May. Had a phenomenal breakfast!! Took other friends in July and all of us were disappointed. And it started when I asked for a straw and the waitress embarrassed me in front of my table of 6 telling me "patience is a virtue". RUDE!!! That was just the beginning of a less than average breakfast. Lunch-they used to have delicious chicken salad and have changed the recipe or where they buy it. They had added grapes. Yuck!! Just had dinner here tonight. This place is consistently good with fresh seafood and excellent service. The owner or manager on duty always inform us of what is the fresh catch of the day. The fried flounder is excellent and there's enough for two people or one hungry person. I've had the fried flounder, shrimp and oyster dinner....very good.
