I had been meaning to go here for what seems like forever and we had such a nice time. The service was excellent. I felt like the roux could've been better on the gumbo or needed more file powder for my liking. We really liked the Cuban sandwich, Mac n cheese and hush puppies. I loved the bananas foster, simple but delicious. I liked they had the bar area or dining room to eat in. There were a couple other things I wanted to try so we'll definitely be back.

Shrimp and grits on the brunch menu is amazing!

As a Louisiana native, I can say this place is the real deal. The Sunday brunch is fantastic with plenty of options. The stuffed French toast is served with a homemade strawberry sauce that pleases the pickiest tastebuds. The catfish is perfectly fried and served with tasty hush puppies. The shrimp and grits were a favorite and left me wanting to lick the plate. The sweet tea brought me back home to my granny's dining table and childhood memories. All of this with the ambiance and hospitality of New Orleans makes it one of the best places Macomb County has to offer.

I love this place! Even more now that we live so close by. My favorite is the hush puppies and fried okra. I could eat that all day. Got a bite of the catfish and it was perfect! Will be back again.

I'm a cajun food enthusiast. I had the trio with red beans and rice, gumbo and shrimp creole. I thought they were all right on target. The flavors were great and the spice was perfect. A very nice setting with great service.

The food was okay. I should have ordered something else besides what was on the lunch menu. The establishment is very nice. You could have a drink and hangout with friends. Very New Orleans style decor. They even have hurricane drinks. Throughout the week they have all type of entertainment going on. You should check it out downtown areas. Cute little city. On Fridays there's live concerts. .

The fried okra is good. The dipping sauce good. Doesn't reheat great so eat it while it's hot.

There isn't a very exciting food scene in Mt Clemens I'm sorry to say. It's a great little town but the dining options can be mweh! Gumbo's is good not mweh. On Friday I dined at Gumbo's for my second time. I was not disappointed. The service was great, the food was great and I was happy. If you like creole like food you'll like Gumbo's.

This place will be added to my list of places to go back to. The staff were very friendly, nice and accommodating. We had a group of 6 and they were very attentive and helpful. It is a family friendly restaurant with a nice fully loaded bar. Jenn the bartender was so nice & whipped us anything we asked for. The food was just as I expected...DELICIOUS! Some of our favorites were the Mac and cheese, crawfish & shrimp Étouffée, Cajun pasta and the drinks! S/n: Don't order the candied yams if you like sweet yams, it wasn't as good as expected. But everything else was 10/10. I'll recommend this place to everyone. I'll be back to try more from the menu! Thank you for making our first time there such a great experience. Downtown Mt Clemens within walking distance of Macomb county offices. Open at 11 most days but closed Sunday. Metered parking in front. Food is great. I had the N.O. Medley ... cup of each jambalaya, gumbo and etouffee. All were distinct flavors with plenty of meats, shrimp and rice. Added the good cornbread. Partner had the daily special 1/2 sandwich and cup of red beans and rice. They offer soda, tea and lemonade. Service was good. Only negative was a 4% upcharge added for using a credit card. I wouldnt have known it if i didn't ask after they ran my card.

This establishment is never disappoints and NEVER dissatisfies! 10/10! 5 Stars! I could eat here everyday. The service is fast, food is HOT the seating areas will have you saying "wow" outloud! There 3 different vibes inside, 1st is where you order food at the front register, 2nd is the seating are on to the left side of the restaurant and that's more formal family seating vibes. The room on the right is "let's sit at the bar play some beer games and watch some tv while we eat" that's the side I sat down at and I had the best time! I tried one of the $10 giant drinks and that thing had me peeled lol! One definitely will get you there. We had Mac n cheese bites for the first time and are now addicted so there's that. We had the regular cut of Mac n cheese and I got a corner piece so I was definitely happy about that and I'm just gonna say it the mac & cheese is made with love and it taste like Black people mac & cheese, so I am definitely happy about that! The jambalaya will always be my favorite. I'll never not get that. We had ordered our food to go before, realizing the seating area was so nice, and we were still allowed to sit and eat from our to go bowls Moral of the story gumbos is a 10 out of 10 restaurant with food and diversity and efficiency and quality. There's plenty of parking. There's plenty of seating, there's no wait, there's a hot plate of food waiting for you. go try it out.!

I lived in New Orleans and this place puts several of my favorites to shame. Genuine Cajun - no cookie cutter knock offs. Go here and laissez les bon temps roulez! My staple is the shrimp Poboy with either gumbo or jambalaya. read more

I have to say, this is the next best thing next to flying down to New Orleans and getting it fresh itself! This food is amazing, the owners are friendly and personable, the portions are huge, the pricing is fair. I am going to use this to cater my best friends bridal shower and her family is from Louisiana! The spices are perfect, the catfish was amazing and I HATE catfish but would eat it over and over again there all day everyday, the hush puppies were just right, the yams are perfect and not overly seasoned, even the green beans and garlic were fresh and served just right with the perfect crunch to them. The bread pudding is to die for, much better though if you eat it there. There is nothing bad I can say about the place! read more

If you happen to be in the Northeast Detroit suburbs and are looking for an unusual treat (at least for Detroit) for lunch, try Gumbo's in downtown Mt. Clemens. The New Orleans Gumbo and Jambalaya are excellent representatives for Louisiana cooking. And they should be since the family who moved to the cold climate but brought their recipes with them. The restaurant is a small storefront affair and is open for lunch and only on Friday do they stay open for the dinner crowd. We stopped by on a Friday for lunch and found a short line waiting for tables or takeout. It was worth the short wait. Try the New Orleans Medley and you can pick three choices from among the six that are offered -- New Orleans Gumbo, Crawfish & Shrimp Etoufee, Cajun Pasta, Red Beans & Rice, Jambalaya and Shrimp Creole. It's a good introduction and you should have a portion large enough to satisfy. There are plenty of other non-Cajun choices, salads, great sides like fried okra and homemade bread pudding. And don't expect a large bill. The portions are generous and a great value. read more

Dropped in here for lunch the other day. Enjoyed my meal and plan to return. Prices are decent; food was excellent. Portion sizes are large, so come with an appetite, share a meal, or ask for a box. The 'soup and salad' or 'pick-3' options are great for first-time customers. Word of advice: The restuarant is deli-like and tables fill up quickly, so get there early to get a good seat. Good place to catch up with old friends. We'll be returning. :) read more

Large portions, decent pricing, great service, wonderful food. What more can you really ask for? Be sure to check out the daily specials on the board as they are not always listed online. The macaroni & cheese is life changing. They've also just recently opened Gumbo's Courtyard. This gave the place more of a fine dining restaurant feel. I am definitely a loyal customer :] read more

2pm on Saturday, June 09, 2018 NOT OPEN! NO SIGN! NO NOTICE! The hours in posted in their window clearly say open Sat. 11am to 6pm. A complete waste of time, gas, and parking meter change! I would be more understanding if there was a sign stating why they were not open or a message on their voicemail apologizing for the inconvenience, but I guess the bad reviews regarding the quality of their customer service are accurate. DO BETTER because you lost a customer before I even tried your food. read more

The hours have extended and they now close at 8pm. We've been four times since we discovered the new hours. I picked up take out on my way home and was just as happy with it as eat in. I have been really pleased with everything we've had but our favorites currently are the etoufee, gumbo, catfish, shrimp and hush puppies. Really can't go wrong with anything here. Even the green beans (not prepared what I think of as traditionally southern) are delicious. They were still bright green and crisp with a nice garlic flavor. read more

I happened upon Gumbo's while at the local festival in my town. Their booth was what drew me in initially because it was cutesy and different from all the trailers lined up. When I saw the name on their sign, I knew I was ready to stop searching for my lunch. I asked for a catfish po-boy and it was a great choice!! The flavor of the piece of fish was amazing, and it was deep fried on the spot. My sandwich came together in front of me as I waited. Not as quickly as they would have liked, so they offered me a free cup of gumbo or jambalaya to go. A very kind and friendly staff hanging out at their booth. After finishing my lunch I walked back by and made sure to let them know how tasty it was. An even nicer surprise... I was given a business card for 10% off a meal. I will definitely find their restaurant in Mount Clemens and surprise my hubby with a GREAT taste of Cajun! read more

Finally got to stop here on Fat Tuesday, and glad I did. Had the 1/2 shrimp po boy with etoufee. All was freshly made, shrimp was not rubbery at all, and even the bread was fresh. Man, was it good. We will be back. read more

Went here on a Groupon for lunch--I love Cajun/Creole and was excited to try this place. Had the "medley" entree -- jambalaya, étouffée, and gumbo. I was not aware you could make étouffée taste this terrible and bland. Jambalaya was Zaterans quality and gumbo was only a little better. Mac and cheese was good though, and my friend said the Muffalata was ok. read more

My goodness, I'm not quite sure if I've ever had a dining experience quite like this. The most friendly staff, the best possible atmosphere for someone who is at a happy point in their life. If you are having a bad day don't go and ruin the awesome vibe, unless you need some Cajun to make it better. Great everything. Truly, 120% worth every dime. Not only that, the food is so good it should be illegal. Go and experience the pure bliss that is "Gumbo's" and then tell all of your friends, family, and foes about it. read more

We went last evening and had a wonderful meal with the family, there are 5 of us, and the most attentive customer service. We learned a lot about this great family owned gem in right in our neighborhood, and with 5 of us we all got to try something different. They recently expanded from the original cafe side with a charmingly decorated area. Has lots of great character and detail. I ordered the ettoufe and it was lovely a great depth of flavors not to spicy and for a fish dish not that yucky "fishy" taste what so ever, indicating quality seafood! My daughter ordered the catfish po boy, wow, this sandwich was huge, and so yummy. Nice light batter on the fish with a great little tangy mayo, yum. My son ordered steak philly and my husband got the Cuban. The Cuban was so good, the ham and pulled pork were cooked so perfectly, no stringy or chewy pieces anywhere on this sandwich. It has a great tang with mustard and pickles, perfect. We tried almost all the side dishes and the mac-n-cheese was tops. No blue boxes from this kitchen, it was served in cute small pot which also helped it stay warm, which I find always a problem with other restaurants. Fried okra, hush puppies and sweet potato fries all so delicious that I don't know what I will order next time. read more

I had a coupon that showed the Sunday hours to be from 12:00 noon-6:00 pm so eight of us went there after church at 1:00. The place was closed with no hours on the sign. We ended up going to the nearby Coney Island and had a great lunch. I have been taking clients here for lunch but since they took the Dinty Moore sandwich off the menu and Sunday's let down I don't think I'll go back. read more

My mind was blown when I stepped in the small establishment. First off the restaurant opens up into a nice and cozy building but who cares about that. Their food is crazy awesome. Their home corn bread is like crack and every meal my fat self has had has been amazing. The sides are wicked good too. Hush puppies... No competition. read more

Great place for lunch. Their gumbo is just as authentic as it is in New Orleans! Prices are a little high, but I assume that is because they are not all that busy and rent in the Clem is ridiculous. I will be coming back for the great food, but not that frequently due to the prices. read more

I took some friends to lunch, and said I would take them to whatever they wanted: They said Gumbo's. Ok fine, never heard of it lets go... I'm not a big Gumbo lover but I can make it work. I got the Cuban sandwich for people who eat lots of sandwiches should know what it is. It was beyond description good. I am still thinking about it 8 hours later. I can not wait to go back. As far the complainers on here, that's some petty stuff. It was OUTSTANDING. I hope they do well! read more

We hosted my niece and nephews high school graduation party here last May. What a hit!! People are still talking about the wonderful food, the very inviting "courtyard" look of the room. Terry could not have been more accomodating. She made our party so stress free! We are no looking for excuses to have another party there!!! read more

Husband got the fish and chips and he enjoyed them, but said he wished they gave malt vinegar with them. Overall the service was slow and some dishes were great and some were not so great.

I got a side salad and a southwest wrap. The side salad was huge and has so many toppings with a really good creamy balsamic dressing. The wrap was phenomenal. It had a honey chipotle aioli that was creamy with a little kick to it. It was unlike anything I've tasted before and elevated a simple wrap. Not to mention the inside was wrapped in melted cheese. Overall this place can be busy and have slower service but this time we had no issues. The food is high quality and tastes above average. It is also in downtown Mt. Clemens so it's a nice to walk around afterwards.

I feel a similar sense of guilt about how I've treated this restaurant. I've been here since Covid, but I should've updated my review. While I didn't like how they handled the pandemic (Faye acted like there was no pandemic), the food has always been amazing. And, it still is. I'm not happy that they don't have sandwiches anymore, unless you count hamburgers. But, I understand businesses need to simplify to stay profitable. I don't think lack of sandwiches is going to be a problem if they keep making the burgers this good. The beefiness is profound, and it shows that they are using fresh, high-quality meat. The mushroom and Swiss burger has a stack of sautéed mushrooms and a generous amount of Swiss. I really appreciate the waitress asking me first if I wanted mayo on it... mayo would've taken away from the robust flavors. I actually kept going "mm-mm" after each bite. And, look at the ridiculous amount of fries in my picture. These are seriously good fries. I do want to order the fish and chips next time. My daughter got them, and I'm glad she was willing to share. The whitefish has a sweetness you only get from fresh fish. And, the breading is crispy, and not the least bit greasy. My wife said she wasn't hungry (though she did have a bite of everything we ordered), so she ordered the cream of broccoli soup. It was wonderfully flavorful. As with everything else we ordered today, we would be happy to order it again. The service was excellent, and I don't mind the no-frills setting. There's no way you'd expect an old school bar to have food this good. Coming here during happy hour also helped. A strong Moscow Mule cost $10, and my 22 ounce Guinness only cost $8. Reggie and Michelle were kind and wonderful to talk with. I sat at the bar with my 3 year old who loved watching Reggie cook and Michelle treated him like one of her own. It easily will become a regular place for me to visit. I ordered the Veggie Omelette with Rye toast and it was all prepared using fresh local produce. My son had pancakes and bacon. If you want pancakes that are perfectly fluffy and melt in your mouth, this is the place to get them. The food came fast, but was a much, much higher quality than "fast food". I love the hole-the-wall, homey feel of this place that fits well with the charm of Mount Clemens.

My son hardly talked as he ate. Best pancakes around! The building is clean and may need some love but the food....is delish! Shout out to their friendly staff. Huge covered outdoor bar, a stage for live music, and a big fire pit that makes it feel like it should be the spot. The setup is there. But something just feels a little... off. It still has that early 2010s bro-bar energy, and it doesn't quite match how nice the space could be. I also didn't even realize they served food, which probably says something about how it's presented. That said, the music is always solid. It's a fun place to grab a drink after work and hang out for a bit. Just not somewhere I find myself staying long or choosing over other spots nearby. If I can offer anything to the team, I think leaning into the vibe of that patio and elevating the atmosphere a bit would go a long way. Maybe highlight the food more too, because people like me are clearly missing it. It's so close to being a go-to spot, just needs a little shift.

My husband ordered the lobster bisque and Eggs Benedict, while I had the breakfast burrito and a Bloody Mary. The kids enjoyed their meals, and my breakfast burrito and Bloody Mary were both good. Nothing particularly unique or memorable, but solid choices overall. Unfortunately, my husband's meal was more disappointing. His lobster bisque arrived barely warm, and the lobster on top was ice cold. He also felt that some of the seafood resembled imitation crab rather than lobster. To the restaurant's credit, he sent it back, but it wasn't a great first impression. The Eggs Benedict was decent, though not especially filling or noteworthy. Our biggest issue was the value. While the food was generally good, the prices felt very high for the portion sizes and overall quality. For example, one waffle cut into four pieces with a drizzle of sauce priced at $17 seemed difficult to justify. Several menu items left us feeling the same way. We really wanted to love Terry's brunch because we've had positive experiences there before, but ultimately the food didn't match the price point for us. While service was pleasant and the meal was okay overall, we left feeling underwhelmed and don't plan to return for brunch.

The chicken is really good, the Greek dressing is my favorite, and the portions are generous. Fair warning though...they load it up with onions! If that's not your thing, definitely ask for it without. I always do! Nothing fancy, just good comfort food, friendly people, and a laid-back diner atmosphere. It's a dependable neighborhood spot, and I'll definitely be back.

Once I was seated, a menu was offered and my drink selected. When she brought my drink ($2.50 hot tea, with sliced lemon and a bit of honey), I requested a $12 Farmer's Omelette, with rye toast. With Motown favorites playing in the back ground and a nice view of the activities outside, it was a peaceful wait until my order arrived. Now, I enjoy eating out, and when I do, I like to order satisfying meals. Well, this certainly 'fit the bill' and I devoured my omelette with vigor. The only alteration I made was adding some salt and pepper, and a little hot sauce to satisfy my tongue. I was able to maintain my status as a member of the Clean Plate Club®. My waitress was very nice and treated me like I was the only customer in the restaurant! She checked up on me once and found everything to be in order. She dropped off the bill and after the Governor got her cut, the total was $15.36. As I like to do with all small dining establishments, I paid with cash and left a decent tip. I always have a pleasant dining experience here. You will too!

The owner and all her workers are the most down to earth friendly people. They must really be good people to work for because there's not much turnover with the waitresses and cooks. We have been dining there even when the boss is not in and the workers continue working as they do even when she is there. It seems like they are all just so committed to this business. The restaurant is decorated very nicely. I think the owner makes all these beautiful flower and seasonal arrangements herself. Very clean restaurant. Bathrooms are also very nice and ergonomically correct, ex: door opens out, soap and water work properly (unlike some restaurants). Oh yes there is one problem though. They need to expand so that they can fit a table in so we can all sit together in a large group! (Well, after Covid). UPDATE: just found out they do not offer curbside pick up.
