Overpriced, and small portions. I recommend going to Wilcox to Big Tex BBQ to enjoy real Texas BBQ.

Friend and I returned for another meal at Batey. The same…read moreserver, that we had last time, greeted and seated us. The chicharrones were served as we looked over the menu. Friend ordered the chicken breast with the garlicky plantains, I ordered the eggplant with rice, and a side order of fried plantains. As before, the food was delicious. There was a huge amount of eggplant covered in a sauce that was delicious. The rice had chunks of tender sweet potatoes in it. The plantains were hot and sweet. Friend's chicken was cut into tender, juicy pieces and her plantains were garlicky as advertised. There is a comforting consistency to this place. The chef was out talking to customers; the server was busy but checked back in with the customers on a regular basis. We'll go back.

After reading extraordinary reviews on this restaurant, we decided to give it a try. However, the…read morefood and service fell far from my expectations. We came on a Saturday noon, and the restaurant was not that busy. We got free pork chicharrones as a complementary appetizer like tortilla chips at Mexican restaurants, which were quite tasty. Food: (2.5/5) Beef Canoa: (3/5) I ordered the beef canoa, which was a plantain with beef (I think it was normal ground beef). The beef was kind of salty with herbs and the plantain was sweet with strong flavorful sauce on the plate. It also had melted cheese on top. It wasn't bad at all, but it was pretty salty and the portions were small for $18 (especially since it's mainly a plantain with ground beef) it also came with one "free" side. Yellow rice with ham side dish: (2/5) This side dish that came with the main course was so salty I couldn't even finish it. The ham didn't really have a flavor, and the dish's overall flavor was just overwhelmed with salt. Of course I expected a dish with ham to be salty, but even after drinking 3 cups of water I couldn't finish it. I'm not sure if Puerto Rican cuisine is supposed to be this salty, but this dish and all the others just tasted like salt. Service: (2.5/5) While we did get offered free chicharrones, we had to keep asking our server for water or more chicharrones. Food wait time was pretty standard. Ambiance: (5/5) The interior was decorated with plenty of decor and car tags. I loved the lighting and overall design of the restaurant. Bathrooms were nice. The whole restaurant had a nice blue vibe. Overall I'm not too sure about the food, portions for pricing, or service but I liked the interior. Honestly I'm not sure if it's authentic Puerto Rican food or not, but it was way, way, too salty for me. (I gained 4 pounds afterwards just from drinking water since it was so salty)

Coming into Tesora, my son and I were admittedly a little nervous because we had saw the Yelp…read moreratings averaging out to 3.7. Reading through one of the three-point reviews, we decided to take a shot anyway since it was only marked down two points for some issues with the server. So in we go. We are in a Friday around 1:00 PM. Just after the lunch rush expect expecting there to be pretty far tables. More people receded than I expected in a large room had a private party going on as well. The place is actually quite beautiful with wonderful color schemes aren't very comfortable chairs and tables sit around. The hostess, who I believe her name was Angelina was incredibly polite, energetic and helpful. Got a seated got us water got us chips and salsa while our server Jackie was finishing up her tables in the private party to come out to us. Jackie was quick, efficient, friendly, and checked on us as often as we needed to, which wasn't much From a food perspective, we got the lunch specials for Gorditas and I tried the combo with a corn, tamale chicken enchilada, and Carne Asada taco. The presentations were simply stunning, but more than that they were functional. All of the flavors mixed in created some exceptional dishes. I have honestly never had a corn tamale as good as that one and I've lived here most of my life. The chicken enchilada was so incredibly well seasoned with just enough cheese on top to add a little extra punch along with the Crema, and all the other flavors. Tortilla bread was perfectly balanced with the meat, tasting so good you didn't eat any of the toppings. But the toppings turned it into one heck of an adventure of flavor. Yes I know. I'm waxing a little philosophically here, but the food really did impress the hell out of us. Service was great, food was great, presentation was great, environment is great we recommend coming here and we will be back. Price wise for an upscale Mexican restaurant this one's right in line around $16-$20 a plate foremost dishes. Of course you can spend more, of course you can spend less. I would have added a picture of the food, but at this point, all we have is empty plates and I didn't think that would do any of you any good.

I dropped in here yesterday for an early dinner by myself. I ordered the Pineapple Adobada Burrito…read more($18). It came with a bunch of sides: rice, refried beans, green salsa, guacamole, a grilled jalapeno and slaw, plus complimentary corn chips and red salsa. The beans and rice were perfunctory, but with the addition of salsa and bits of jalapeno they were OK. The burrito itself was large and had plenty of pork, though I didn't care for the marinade. The two salsas were good. All in all, it was just OK. The ambiance is nice and service was fine.
