Coming into Tesora, my son and I were admittedly a little nervous because we had saw the Yelp ratings averaging out to 3.7. Reading through one of the three-point reviews, we decided to take a shot anyway since it was only marked down two points for some issues with the server. So in we go. We are in a Friday around 1:00 PM. Just after the lunch rush expect expecting there to be pretty far tables. More people receded than I expected in a large room had a private party going on as well. The place is actually quite beautiful with wonderful color schemes aren't very comfortable chairs and tables sit around. The hostess, who I believe her name was Angelina was incredibly polite, energetic and helpful. Got a seated got us water got us chips and salsa while our server Jackie was finishing up her tables in the private party to come out to us. Jackie was quick, efficient, friendly, and checked on us as often as we needed to, which wasn't much From a food perspective, we got the lunch specials for Gorditas and I tried the combo with a corn, tamale chicken enchilada, and Carne Asada taco. The presentations were simply stunning, but more than that they were functional. All of the flavors mixed in created some exceptional dishes. I have honestly never had a corn tamale as good as that one and I've lived here most of my life. The chicken enchilada was so incredibly well seasoned with just enough cheese on top to add a little extra punch along with the Crema, and all the other flavors. Tortilla bread was perfectly balanced with the meat, tasting so good you didn't eat any of the toppings. But the toppings turned it into one heck of an adventure of flavor. Yes I know. I'm waxing a little philosophically here, but the food really did impress the hell out of us. Service was great, food was great, presentation was great, environment is great we recommend coming here and we will be back. Price wise for an upscale Mexican restaurant this one's right in line around $16-$20 a plate foremost dishes. Of course you can spend more, of course you can spend less. I would have added a picture of the food, but at this point, all we have is empty plates and I didn't think that would do any of you any good. read more

I dropped in here yesterday for an early dinner by myself. I ordered the Pineapple Adobada Burrito ($18). It came with a bunch of sides: rice, refried beans, green salsa, guacamole, a grilled jalapeno and slaw, plus complimentary corn chips and red salsa. The beans and rice were perfunctory, but with the addition of salsa and bits of jalapeno they were OK. The burrito itself was large and had plenty of pork, though I didn't care for the marinade. The two salsas were good. All in all, it was just OK. The ambiance is nice and service was fine. read more

This was our initial visit to this establishment. I had a strong desire for some delicious Mexican cuisine, and my husband suggested we try this particular restaurant. We visited on a Thursday afternoon, and to our surprise, there was live music. We were seated near the stage and dance floor. They also feature a sports bar area, and I was quite impressed by the spaciousness of the restaurant. It would have been a five-star experience, but I was a little disappointed with our server, as she was not particularly welcoming or friendly. Other than that, everything else was satisfactory. Celebrating a 90th birthday. This place helped to make it special. Came in on a Sunday night. On Sunday they have a mariachi band from 6 to 8. That was even more special as the birthday gal loves mariachi. They were good. Despite hosting a wedding reception that took a good portion of the restaurant, our service was excellent. Never felt neglected or forgotten. Drinks and chips came quickly. The drinks were reasonable and not watered down. I had a Tesoro margarita. It was spot on. A mixed drink was ordered and so was Modelo on draft. Love the full bar. When it came to the food there was a delay caused by our party. Many good selections, we took a while to order. Despite that our food still came up timely. Every one was served at the same time and everything was the perfect temp. It was nicely presented and tasted just as good. Even the hard to please were pleased. Generous portions. Great taste. It was fun listening to the mariachi and watching people dance and have a good time. Far as desert. Who had room. Had a reservation for this past Saturday. We were seated immediately and right behind us was our waitress ready to take our drink order. The place is very nicely decorated. Our server, Estefania, was on point and very pleasant. I had the Oaxaca Cheese Enchiladas ($18.99) that was served with rice and beans. The sauce was excellent! I had the house margarita (9.50) and it was good. The hubby had the House Mole with flour tortillas, rice and beans ($22.99). I never got to try this place as we walked in and waited for almost 10 minutes to be seated. The hostess was off elsewhere talking to people. She even looked over and ignored us but didn't bother to come and seat us, so we ended up leaving. Poor customer service. There are many other places happy to have the business. I came here for dinner a couple of weeks ago and enjoyed the live music, but I wish we hadn't been seated right next to the band--it was way too loud in that room. I ordered the Enchiladas Suizas with both red and green sauce. The green sauce was too sour for me, but I really liked the red. I also tried the Torta Sonorense, but the guacamole was too sour and I didn't care for the peppers. The side of rice wasn't fresh. The margarita started off tasting like it was made with a mix, but it grew on me as I drank it. Got a gift card & wanted to try this spot out. Glad we tried, since it's one newer spot for Mexican sit-down on the north side of town. It wasn't too busy when we first arrived but definitely got more packed as time went on. Barely missed out on the mariachi band, which was a bummer! The food was very fine. The refried beans were a highlight! Personally felt that the enchilada dish was slightly under seasoned. The rice was fine as well. Both dishes didn't come out extremely hot, mostly "warm." And the fajitas did not come out on a sizzling cast iron like they typically do. The meat on the fajitas was drenched in an oil/butter which felt also overwhelming. Salsas were also okay, a bit bland with zero spice at all. The prices are definitely outrageous, so that was a red flag. Example: chile relleno dish was over $20. We went to Tesoro on a whim this evening, and had a very good dinner. We started with chips and salsa, as well as the elote. The salsa could have used a little more kick, but was good nonetheless. The street corn comes on the cob, but cut into quarters, making it easy to share. It was generously sprinkled with queso fresco, though much lighter on the chili. You can mix and match tacos, so we tried almost all of the options: adobada, carne asada, chicken, shrimp, and fish. Our favorites were the adobada and the shrimp! The adobada was super flavorful, and I really loved the crema that came on the side with the shrimp taco -- it has just a hint of heat that paired perfectly with the cole slaw and pickled onion. We also liked the ambience, which was buzzy and upbeat but not overly loud. We sat in the bar at a high top table, and the service was really great. We could see it right away since my son made reservation. Our Waiter was James he was on it. They make a chiltipin oil that's so good. We dined here at the challenging time for restaurants between lunch and dinner. Despite this, the service was good and the food was delivered hot and delicious very quickly. My dining companion had a torta, which was served with fries. She reported that both things were quite good. I had shrimp tacos with roasted vegetables and a side salad. Stopped into Tesoro on a Saturday night to grab a drink with some girlfriends, and had such a great time! We sat at one of the many high top tables in the bar and I started off with a frozen mango margarita (so good!) and couldn't resist a slice of guava pie from their special limited time Cubano menu--both were delicious. The atmosphere was lively with a DJ keeping the energy up, plenty of TVs so I could keep an eye on the U of A vs. Hawaii game (Bear Down!), and I was happy to see there was live music and dancing out on the patio. Our server James was hilarious, super attentive, and really made the night fun--he even surprised us with "Mexican candy" jello shots that were dangerously tasty with just the right hint of spice. A most excellent and well made recommendation! The whole vibe was festive and welcoming, and I can't wait to come back to try more from their regular menu for a full meal. My friends and I checked out Tesoro for dinner since it's a newer Latin spot in the area. The place is beautiful--lots of space, super clean, and the outdoor patio is a nice touch. Our server was really sweet, but there were some hiccups with the timing. It would've been nice if everyone's food came out at the same time, especially since there were only six of us. I tried the Tesoro Tini, which looked cute, but the taste reminded me of orange cough syrup. The chicharrón sampler, though, was solid--everything paired well with the elote, beans, and guac. I also had a bite of my friend's toritos, but the peppers were so spicy it was hard to enjoy, even with the cucumbers and cream cheese trying to tone it down. I'd still like to come back for brunch sometime. The spot has potential, and I'm curious to see what else they've got! read more

No complaints of food or service. We went to hear the band ,Savor Latino. It was a complete disaster. We made reservations for dinner to hear the band. They had the bank play outside instead of the stage. I still am upset about it. In Tucson it must have been 100 degrees outside. So all of us sat outside in this heat not to mention the poor band members. It was such a poor choice and I would like to see The band again but never in your restaurant. That was sad news to hear as we have already been waiting just to be greeted at the table and get some recommendations. After another 10-15, we had looked over the area to see who may be our waitress. The restaurant was not very busy- some guests at the bar counter, a 6 top which half had already arrived and started eating even before we got there, and then another 2 top. Finally made some eye contact with a lady- who seemed as if we caught her. She finally came to our table, apologized that she's been busy with the big group however she wasn't even waiting on them. No recommendations provided, no warm welcoming from her. We ordered everything at once, sadly. But we did that as we did not want to wait to place the order if we only did the drinks then the apps as we have been waiting for some time to simple get waited on. Drinks (michelada and house margarita) were not good! Margarita was too sour. Michelada tasted like watered down chilada and side of beer was given. We each had 1 cocktail since we were not satisfied with the first round. Appetizers came AND so did the entrees at the same time. Elote was okay. Small cobs but cooked good. Toritos could have been cooked longer. Most of the bacon was not cooked all the way. No spice whatsoever either. Completely unsure if their salsas are homemade- but no flavor at all- on both the salsa served with chips and the salsa negra for the toritos. We ordered happy hour tacos. Chicken, ground beef and carne asada. Meat were cooked fine. But the extensive romaine was unnecessary. Was not even cabbage as they have advertised. Beans were ok. Rice was horrible! Not cooked properly. Overcooked as most of the grains were so hard and awfully dissatisfying. Bland tacos. I am not LatinX but I am a food critic and food connoisseur- but in my opinion Tesoro is a 'Latin Kitchen & Cantina'- where's the Latin? The menu seemed more of a Mexican kitchen than Latin. Latin should be consist of the diversity across Latin America. Add in ingredients of pupusas, plantains, empanadas, ropa vieja... I truly was not pleased. First time and might be the last. The most unattractive experience was the service. The chefs have some opportunities to overcome. The plating was good but the taste does not match the picture. Also- Trivia threw us off. The ambiance of the restaurant didn't give me Trivia vibes. If this is a thing- at least make it Latin related not guessing Lizzo's real name or half a face of some old actress. I understand this restaurant, based from research, that it turns into a club basically ... but definitely not what I had expected. There were no Latin music playing. Just standard Today's Hits was playing. The DJ seemed like he did not know how to use his system. Kept blowing up the speakers a few times which pierced our ears aggressively. Not what you want to happens when trying to enjoy dinner. Restaurant has potential if they focus on what it was meant to be. As of right now, it seemed as if the owner wants many things- wrong combinations put together. If you want a successful restaurant- have a restaurant. If you want to party and have a club- open one nearby or a location that will attract better guests for that specifically. If anyone wants to enjoy delicious tacos and margaritas I'd recommend La Botana. Just a mile east from Tesoro. read more

Took my mother for an early Mother's Day dinner. Everyone, if you have not been, go now! My mother can be particular about her food, she loved everything! Our server Selina was wonderful, super helpful guiding us with the menu, attentive, but not overly attentive where it's too much. It was the right amount! Also super sweet personality! The place felt very high end and not too loud, but also very relaxed. My mother and I shared the queso fundido with chorizo and empanadas! Yum!!! Queso and chorizo went well, not battling each other in flavor. Empanadas, the pastry nice and flakey, but not dry. We both got the rib eye, cooked to perfection, the rice flavorful and oh my the corn elote, delish. The side salad it came with was a nice fresh and crisp salad. Jasmine serves an outstanding margarita made with fresh juice, lime-zest salt, and crushed ice. I was blown away by the Red Pozole- big chunks of meat, and even the 'small' comes with all the best flavor additions and a slice of grilled bread on the side. The music is fun, the atmosphere airy and vibrant. Service was sweet, not overbearing, and well knowing they're selling a good product. Surprised they had been open about a year and I hadn't been in. The space is cool and the layout of the restaurant is different. Guess it used to be a Mimi's Cafe. You can still see the Mimi's. The ratings are lower than they should be. The food and service was good. The vibe is cool for sports and good Mexican food. I ordered a salad with Ceasar dressing, but I believe I got Ranch. I asked the food runner about it and she said it was Ceasar. Didn't taste like Ceasar but I got some vegetables so that's good. read more
