Gursha Eats is truly a gem in the Salem, OR community. While spending a week there (Salem), visiting my best friend, she took me all around Salem to explore some of her local favorites, and Gursha Eats was one of them. Now, the last time I had authentic Ethiopian food was many years ago, with the same best friend at this Ethiopian spot in Orlando, FL - the name of which is escaping me. Needless to say, it's been YEARS. So, I was very excited to visit Gursha Eats because my best friend had done nothing short of speak AMAZING things about this local eatery. And, naturally, Gursha Eats did not disappoint. Again, I repeat, what a gem! The staff were just the absolute sweetest! Service was top-tier and quick as can be. However, the food was the MAIN attraction. I got the platter, so that I was able to try a little bit of everything, and wow, wow, WOW!! It was so flavorful. My goodness! I was truly blown away by how wonderful everything tasted. I have found African & other black & brown cultural (& being of Caribbean descent - so I get it) cuisines very filling and heavy. So, I didn't eat a ton while there because I got full pretty quickly, but I was happy to have leftovers to enjoy later, and that I did. The leftovers were just as amazing as eating it in the restaurant. Nothing was overly spicy. Everything was served fresh and paired very well with the tea I requested, but I am drawing a blank on the flavor I got. I was truly a happy camper after that meal. If Gursha Eats didn't know this, they know now, I am a FAN for life. And for as long as my best friend calls Oregon home, I will be sure to find my way to Salem to visit Gursha Eats. If you are a local and have not been, please give them your patronage. If you are visiting Salem, as I was, I also urge you to visit this local gem. You will not, I repeat, you will not be disappointed. This little spot is definitely worth it. Before I wrap this up, the restaurant was previously a Latin cuisine spot, so when you walk in, it is a mixed fusion of Latin and Ethiopian decor. It blends quite nicely - actually. So, just a fun little fact. Do not let the previous signage and decor throw you off because Gursha Eats is a bit newer. I am sure, in time, they will slowly convert the decor to more traditional Ethiopian aesthetics. And even if they don't, as I mentioned, the fusion of cultures kind of works well. It definitely has a nice homey feel to it, too. So, overall, you just get the feeling of visiting family. It is just a warming and inviting spot to visit. Again, please, please check this local eatery out. It is so worth it!

Finally some amazing food in Salem! This is legit Ethiopian food - amazing flavors, friendly service, interesting ambience. They share the space with a Mexican restaurant next door, and people on both sides can sit on either side. We got the Awdament Gursha platter to share, on injera, with a couple Ethiopian beers. Disregard the neighborhood - this little place is the place to go!

First time trying Ethiopian food, it was all very delicious!! We shared the platter with all the sides and it was amazing! Service was great, we will be back!

We just happened to spot this on Yelp when looking for somewhere new to have lunch. I've been a fan of Ethiopian food for decades and have had it in San Diego and Los Angeles as well as Gresham. Each place has had its own take on the flavors and I've never been to an Ethiopian restaurant I didn't like. Add to that list Gursha Eats. We got the Adawment Gursha which is basically a sampler plate for two. The beef and chicken were completely infused with the spices and were absolutely delicious. The cabbage was tender and flavorful and the two lentil dishes were distinctive and delightful. I had never had beets in an Ethiopian restaurant, but they were really good as well. Their injera had just the right sourness and they gave us the perfect amount for our food. The restaurant shares the space with El Toro Mexican restaurant but they've been given one side to decorate with an Ethiopian theme. I highly recommend this place for people who love Ethiopian food or those who haven't tried it yet. We're really glad there's finally a good Ethiopian restaurant in Salem!

I loved this place so much. The service was impeccable and the food was as good as I've had. All…read morethe positive reviews about Sisters are true to form. I truthfully didnt read any reviews but we had nothing but good to say about the total experience so i can't really report on negative reviews..only positive. So truthfully i had no idea what to expect but i can say i was pleasantly surprised with how authentic the flavors were. Ok ok, keep reading if you want to get deep into it.. I was there because Ethiopian food is by far the most romantic and intimate cuisine I've discovered to date. And I frequent it. The flavors are bold and original. The staples range from safe, to raw seasoned beef and curried lamb. An American fair ground of new flavors to explore. We opted for the raw seasoned beef with Ayib, which is a wonderful cheese that adds all the good things that anyone could ask for to the dish. If you wanted more because you need an endorphin release they've got you covered there as well. Primarily because they asked the spice level and delivered perfectly, but second fiddle was the small pile of additional party spice that they place on the side rustically so that you can add it yourself. Its not offensively hot whatsoever so please do experiment with it. You wont be disappointed. Or bring a small container and bring it home. Im only disappointed i wont have any tomorrow lol So raw beef, ya, get that. The other dish we had was an amazing red beef curry with all the right accompaniments. Perfectly cooked peppers and onions paired with just the right amount of heat and sweet balance. We investigated a medium heat level and it was safe. Very safe. Very good. Like so comfortable they should just go with one option lol Hot was an option and next time i will probably try that. I'll probably recant my medium argument. The ways spice was used as a paintbrush was so thoughtful, and im pretty sure we didnt even get into the good stuff. Whoever is in the kitchen creating this experience really hit all the keys just right tonight. The last thing i wanted to mention was the honey wine. First of all its extremely reasonably priced. Like less than many of the drinks i frequent, for the whole bottle. At first its..different.. and somewhat jarring when taken back without food. Not unpleasant, just different. But when its consumed with the food it makes, oh oh oh so much sense. It really turns the meal into more of an absolute symphony. This place would be on repeat if i lived closer. The locals are really lucky to have this around. Im not so lucky to be as close as they are but i hope ill be back soon. Thanks for a wonderful night sisters.

He started to walk away but stopped when I asked to order. It's not like they have a large menu and we were ready to eat. During the meal I waited for the host to look over but my dining companion called out to him to get my water glass refilled. I was a little put off by the slow service. We're your only customers and you're not happy to see us? You're not going to give us your undivided attention? You're going to slowly serve us like we're an after thought? 2) Why is it called Sisters when I see no females working there? 3) The food did come out quickly as it seems everything is already made. 4) The food tasted good. It was our first Ethiopian experience but unfortunately did not leave a positive, lasting memory. We will not be back. 5) After our meal we waited and waited. It seemed we were required to pay at the host stand rather than at our table. This was difficult for my friend who uses a cane, but we had no choice. 6) I've been to a Moroccan restaurant before where it is also customary to eat with your hands. That place started the meal by offering a bowl of water to wash your hands. This place did not and I was surprised.

In Portland, we made the wonderful discovery that there were almost a dozen in the area, and we had a difficult time figuring out which one, or ones, to visit. We initially chose Bole because of consistently good reviews and being relatively close to our hotel. It of course had the welcoming feel one expects. Ordering for our group was a little more challenging than usual, because much of their menu is set up for single servings. But has been the case at most Ethiopian restaurants, if you can convey to your server exactly what you want in a group platter, they can make it for you, which they of course did. The food came out quickly and looked and tasted wonderful. Bonus points for having beets in the vegetable platter. They do make the meat dishes slightly spicier than expected - we asked for them medium, and the lamb dish was much more than medium. Tej is available by the glass; ours was room temperature and slightly fizzy. Additional injera is available on request. Those aside, our dinner there was really enjoyable, and while we'd want to check out other Ethiopian restaurants in Portland, we'd certainly return here.
