Gustavo's never fails!! While the food took a little to arrive, I have no complaints. The place was busy and the workers were busy and that goes to show how loved Gustavo's is! The atmosphere is wonderful. The bathrooms are lovely and kept up with very well. As we arrived, Gustavo was with a patron who was being extremely unpleasant and he handled it amazingly. The patron was calling the workers foul names and she was causing a scene . Go somewhere else lady, you don't deserve Gustavo's. We visited Gustavo's for the first time recently and unfortunately left very disappointed. The service was some of the worst we've experienced in quite a while. Our server was missing for most of the evening -- not only from our table but from others around us as well, to the point that guests nearby were joking about it. We never received our appetizers, went long periods without drinks, and watched other tables (with different servers) receive their food before us even though they ordered after we did. The wait to pay our check was also unacceptable; I ultimately had to get up and search for our server just to settle the bill. To make matters worse, my wife spoke with management about our experience and received only a brief apology and excuse. No effort was made to address the inconvenience or offer an opportunity to return and have a better experience. Overall, this was a very disappointing first visit, and unfortunately not one that encourages us to come back. read more

We have been fans of Gustavo's for several years. Gustavo's recently moved to a new building a few doors down from the previous location in Norton Commons. This was our first visit to the new building. This being Taco Week, we thought it would be a good time to check out the new location. Unfortunately, this was a somewhat disjointed visit. We arrived at 11am just as they were opening. We were seated up front by the entrance. Not a good place. It was extremely noisy and got worse as more and more customers entered and waited to be seated. Our server took our drink order, I asked about the Taco Week special. He said there wasn't any Taco specials. I had to explain the whole Taco Week situation. He returned and commented there was a special he wasn't aware of, delivered our drinks and disappeared. To be fair we told him we were waiting on another couple to arrive. However, about 10 minutes into our wait, we wanted to order an appetizer, but the server was nowhere to be found. Once the other couple arrived he did come by to get their drink order at which time we ordered the appetizer. From this point things did improve somewhat. Three of us were drinking unsweetened tea. He came by and refilled two of the three teas, leaving my wife's empty glass sitting. I finally waved him down and asked for her refill which he did. My lunch Carnitas came to the table barely room temperature. The new location is three stories. The bar is much bigger and situated just to the right of the front entrance adding to the chaos and noise at the tables located up front. Not a good overall visit. read more

I'm not sure about some of these reviews. I went with my homegirls to check this spot out and we greatly enjoyed it. Parking was plentiful around the restaurant, we were greeted and seated right away, and ALL staff we interacted with were friendly and welcoming. We went on a Tuesday evening and it wasn't slammed, but it was busy. The design and layout of restaurant are all very nice and look newish. It wasn't too loud or rowdy at all. The drinks were hitting on all points. We did margarita flights and daiquiris, which were so tasty. I ordered the chicken fajita and it was still piping hot when I got it. The chips were still warm and delivered to our table within a minute of us being seated. Our servers were Juan and Lalo mainly, though Belin did come chat with us and remove plates from our table. The fries ice cream was phenomenal. Such a unique concept. We will be back again and soon. read more

Gustavo's is located in a really nice part of town and this spot was incredibly busy the Saturday night that we were there. I had called ahead a month prior to make reservations for our party of 8 and unfortunately when we got there, they had no record of that. They were able to find a space for us very quickly, but still a little frustrating that whoever I talked to did not actually take the reservation down, even though I confirmed and repeated the date to him. Chips and salsa were served for the table and they were great! I always appreciate a restaurant that offers something complimentary for the table. We all ordered their holiday drinks - I picked the Merry Margarita which came with cranberry and thyme. It was good! I think I have had better cranberry margs, but it was still refreshing. My main was exceptional - I got the quesabirria tacos and they were packed full of flavor. I would definitely recommend this if you are eating here! Another unfortunate mishap though was that out of the 8 of us, three had incorrect orders brought to the table. I know that they were very busy that night, but that's a negative against them, especially when one of my friends (who is vegetarian) was served meat. Another ordered something with steak and received shrimp, which could have been bad had he had a shellfish allergy. They have a few kinks to work out before getting a higher rating. This is a wonderful restaurant. The ambience was very upscale and nice. It didn't hurt that. We had a beautiful day to sit on the patio. We enjoyed every bit. The food was good. The only exception was our first basket of chips. They were mostly crumble the bottom of the drawer. The waiter noticed that came back, took them away and brought us fresh chips, which we all appreciated. Didn't have to ask. The rest of the food was terrific. The margaritas were wonderful. Servers had both inside and outside tables which led to some coverage confusion. App and main course waves were brought out sporadically and we had to ask a few times about missing items. The fajita ingredients were completely shredded and overcooked by the time we started eating. Please, consider using chunks instead of shredding everything. I stumbled into Taco Tuesday and in a hungry stupor and WOW were they busy. The hustle from the staff was INCREDIBLE. The energy was lovely. I received chips and salsa right away as a buffer while they caught up. I have no problem waiting when a place is busy, especially when they check-in like this, because I used to be in the service biz and I say-get that money, honey! My spicy marg was YUM. The tacos were underwhelming, but super cheap. Think cheese and chicken vibes, not complex flavors or fresh onion cilantro vibes. But the price was CHEAP for the Taco Tuesday special. Once we walked in the door we was greeted rudely once we set down we wasn't greeted for about 20 minutes we place a drink order and then a food order total time before we got drinks and food was about 45 minutes to a hour. I am rating this visit and experience a 3-star because I had a good experience but my husband did not. In fact, he doesn't even want to go back based on the experiences of our last 3 visits here. But that's what we get for "cheating" on our go-to spot Fiesta Time. My cocktail, La Paloma, was pretty and delicious. I ordered two. The appetizer, Mummy Jalapeño Peppers, was great. My entree was good but he didn't like his entree at all. He ordered the shrimp fajitas for one but it wasn't sizzling when they brought it out, the rice was cold, and the shrimp was flavorless. I ordered the Mariscolandia. Overall it was good because all of the veggies including the squash, onions, peppers and zucchini added a lot of flavor but the shrimp itself was flavorless. We decided on Gustavo's because of the outdoor seating. For me the outdoor and the cocktail gave me what I was looking for in the moment. But we likely won't be back. read more

Gustavo's is a science. They have their regimen down. The location in Norton Commons has ample space indoors and outdoors and they are packed. You're going to run into a crowd and that's OK there's plenty of seating. The service is quick. A server will bring out chips and salsa to you. The chips are tasty and well made. In the time that you have to review the menu someone else will drop by to get your orders. The beer featured from Goodwood, specially for Gustavo's is really tasty. Don't get scared by the jalapeño. It's really not spicy. You order your meal and you get it in a timely manner. I got the Vegetarian Combo B, which was a different option than I normally get. It was lovely to have the option of black beans which I normally don't get to experience at a Mexican restaurant. I also really enjoyed the chalupa. My significant other got enchilada verdes, which featured one of each enchilada. He found it very tasty and the sauce was great. The other marker for us is that they had our favorite hot sauce on the table, yucateca. This was an excellent experience in an excellent space. Can't wait to go back. read more

We had an amazing time at Gustavo's in Norton Commons! We had our puppy with us, so we were able to sit on their dog friendly patio! Even though we were seated outside, the patio has nice lighting, and we had a great view of the sunset! The staff were so friendly and accommodating! To drink, I had the Margarita Flight with guava, mango, raspberry, and tangerine, and my husband had the House Margarita frozen with strawberry and banana! We enjoyed all of the flavors! They bring you out complimentary salsa and chips, and we also ordered the choriqueso to start! For dinner, we each ordered a combination meal. I had the enchilada with white cheese sauce, chile relleno, and soft taco! He had the burrito and soft taco with rice and beans! Both entrees were absolutely delicious! My first time visiting this location and because of the lack of care by the waiter, I will not return. I arrived before my colleagues and was seated immediately. Chips and salsa arrived promptly but no waiter. He stopped by a good five minutes after I was seated, took my drink order and disappeared. They were NOT busy but the drink took a little time...it was the daily special with hardly any alcohol. This waiter was constantly at the wait stand looking for larger parties. Once he got large parties, one outside and one inside, he was pretty much done with my little three top. I had to flag down other waiters for everything. He never stopped by the table, and had other staff drop off and pick up our tickets. He absolutely ruined the night for us. Gustavo's has some of the best Mexican food we have tried, with the only ones beating them located in Texas and close to the border. After spending stupid amounts of money at Costco, my wife and I decided to stop here based off good reviews (who wants to cook the food they bought anyways?) Coming into the restaurant, it was very clean and the delish smells hit me instantly. I could tell it was going to be . Service was very quick, as the servers seemed to be everywhere. I got the Birria Tacos and my wife had the chicken fajitas, paired with a side of jalepeno ranch dip. Both meals came out quick and they were fresh fresh. Both very tasty. The chips (my favorite part of any Mexican restaurant) were very crisp and the salsa has a good flavor to it. The Jalepeno ranch was pretty good, but I felt that it was missing something. I've been to Gustavo's several times for dinner. Today, I met a previous co-worker here for lunch As always I enjoyed the atmosphere and food. Today they had plenty of servers working as well. I ordered the shrimp tacos which were very tasty. The only thing that would have been nice would have been if they offered a lunch portion for the shrimp tacos. I had to order the dinner entree. It was very good but too much for me for lunch. It all worked out, since I heated my leftovers up for dinner. While we were there, the table next to us was celebrating a birthday. They had a big sparkler in the middle of the table while the servers sang. I think I will have to come back when I'm celebrating someone's birthday! read more

Three of us stopped in here on a Monday evening after work and the restaurant was nearly empty, only 2 other tables were sat. We were seated right away and given menus, but then our service stopped for a while... it was about 20 minutes before anyone came back to take a drink order. Once we got to place our orders, the food arrived quickly. We did the crab chimichanga (fantastic), the shrimp enchiladas (lacked much flavor, but was filling), and the seafood molcajete (a huge dish and was loaded with seafood -- shrimp, scallops, a full fish filet, veggies). We also had a margarita, a glass of sangria, and iced tea, along with the jalapeño ranch dip. The cocktails were fantastic and BIG. You could tell there was a substantial amount of alcohol in each one, too. Would try this place again if invited, but I wouldn't say I'm dying to go back.
