GROSS what a waist of $40!! asked a friend what they thought of Guthries before our first visit and they said if you like salt go for it! Been here a couple times and the service has always been stellar. When you walk in, the decour is like any other fast food establishment but its always been clean. The location is an odd spot from a main road. I ordered the "original" box which was 5 chicken strips, cole slaw, fries, toast and 1 sauce for $12.09 before tax. They make some good chicken strips. Breaded nicely and meaty but a bit on the smaller side. They also don't do anything unique to them and I think are trying to ride on their sauces to give it the extra diversity. But their sauces are ok, I have tried them all. The guthries sauce is a play off of our utah/idaho version of a fry sauce or a poor Raising Canes. Their sweet and sour sauce though always saved the day and continues to be a great compliment to the chicken. You get a whole heaping of fries and buttery toast. I was not a fan of the slaw this time or last. I will say with so many options like this in town, this place needs to do something special or I doubt they will stick around. Walked in at 4:45 and the place was a ghost town. Said hello to the person running drive-thru only to be ignored. Waited for a few minutes to order...appeared that the cook was the one that took our order and made our food. I'm only assuming since he said "your food will be out after I'm done cooking it" when he walked away. 20 minutes later our food arrives with apologies for the long wait. Unfortunately, the fries were lukewarm (if not less), barely cooked and soggy. Chicken was overcooked and over breaded. Just 3 dry shards of meat. If you can call it that...I had more breading than meat. The coleslaw looked like it was previously frozen or had been sitting for a while as a chalky film was on top when I opened my serving. The real discovery in our visit was that they do chicken buckets and larger group deals, which will be fantastic for our summer poolside activities. The staff was very nice and the place is clean. Wow! Trying Guthrie's out and having it fresh (instead of taking it home to eat) was a GREAT idea. The chicken was hot, fresh, and tender. Decided to eat here instead of Slim Chickens for dinner for the family tonight. I haven't been in a few months , and had somewhat of a pleasant experience in the past. To my families disappointment, the chicken strips were about half of the size as we've had in the past, and it seems like we're eating fried breading with very little chicken. Wow, this was really bad. Should be zero stars! 7:30 on Sunday night, no one in the drive through and no one inside. Walked in and immediately smelt like old frying oil. 2 employees walked by behind the counter while we were standing there with 5 people, not one word was said. My kids and I usually go to the vista location, always nice. Just found out about this Meridian location. Still enjoyed the food, but floor, and tables were very dirty, and wasn't even busy, just us, the workers were in back, as the main door to their kitchen opened from one worker went back, we could see all outside the back door just visiting. My son ordered a small drink and two large drinks with our orders and they charged for largest but only gave small drinks. The guy who waited on us was grumpy, didn't smile, wasn't very friendly at all. No one was up front watching the register, and none checked or cleaned the lobby, seating or tables, floor needed swept and mopped. We live closer to the vista, so probably keep going back to it. They smile, say hi, very friendly, never dirty, always clean floor, clean tables and seatings always clean. The lady that runs it, maybe owns it, I don't know maybe just supervises, but she makes sure everything keeps clean. Was disappointed trying the Meridian location. Recently moved into the Boise area. We looked for and realized we would not find a "Cane's Chicken Fingers" in the area. While shopping one day we noticed a new placed called Guthrie's. We did not stop that day but looked them up on the 'net to determine what they were about. Sure looked like a take on Cane's (and really because chronologically Guthrie's was established first, Cane's could be considered a take on Guthries). Of course we needed to try them out. Much like Cane's the folks working at Guthrie's were welcoming and very friendly. This is a new building and thus everything inside was fresh and clean. A good upbeat vibe typical of Cane's. Usually we share a "Caniac" meal at Cane's - that is, a six-finger meal that includes cole slaw, Texas toast, and crinkle fires (altho we usually opt for no toast and double fries). Today we stuck to the same sized meal at Guthries in order to do a complete comparison. As with Cane's, the Guthries meal "The Big G" box included six fingers, cole slaw, Texas toast, and crinkle fries. Oh also includes a drink. (we always save two of the fingers to take home as a special treat for our dogs). I usually provide photos when I review different places, but did not take any on this day, very sorry. I would only add that the photos on the Guthries web page is representative of what we saw. Since this was truly a side-by-side comparison, I will provide my take on each item below: 1. Chicken fingers - Surprising, but we both thought Guthrie's fingers were seasoned in a more pleasing manner than Cane's. Don't get me wrong, the Cane's fingers from a quality standpoint were just as good, we just felt the subtle seasoning in Guthries coating were excellent. 2. Crinkle fries - While they were very good, have to give the nod to Cane's here. The fries at Guthries did not have the same firmness on the inner portion of the fries - the slightly crisp crunch was fine on the outside, but the fries seemed to be a little mushy (probably an unfair word here) on the inside. We still ate all of them, but just think Cane's fries held up a little better. 3. Fry sauce - A virtual tie. Would be difficult to delineate if the fry sauces were placed side by side in a blind taste test. 4. Cole slaw - Really enjoyed Guthrie's version of cole slaw. The flavors for us seemed to jump out a bit more than Cane's. The Cane's slaw feels a bit one note - very generic (dare I say much like KFC's?). On the other hand, we both thought Guthrie's slaw was distinctive. Not Earth-shattering, but tasty. 5. Texas toast - Another tie - both are very similar. Would gladly enjoy either although as earlier-mentioned, we pass on the Texas toast and request a double-fry instead. There you have it. For is, Guthrie's will serve as a very good substitution for Cane's. The satisfaction of our chicken finger needs can easily be matched with a stop at Guthrie's. read more

I've had Guthrie's before a few months back - it was ok -- even good. I ordered for the second time today. The chicken was so salty it was inedible. Went through the drive through...first time. Wasn't interesting in the sides, so order 9 finger with no idea of the size. Turns out they are smaller chicken strips which was fine. 9 fingers with no sides and 3 sauces was $19.80. They look good...smell good...have a good crunch, and taste bland as anything. When you want to eat canes but don't have it in your area yet- there's Guthries. Not an exact clone, but it's close. Staff was super friendly when I rolled up ten min before closing. Food was cooked to order and had good flavor. Sauce is plentiful and provided a nice addition to the fried chicken bits.
