We contacted GVK Heating & Air when a Nest specialist technician had already been out to tell us that we needed a 24V transformer added to our system to get our heating and AC working with our new Nest thermostat. We scheduled an appt for them to come out but Denys began texting and diagnosing the issue immediately. We quickly determined that our system has a heat pump and the issue may be as simple as moving a wire to a different configuration. Sure enough, that was it! This is honestly the best AC service in San Diego. George absolutely saved us. A dishonest company wanted to charge my 80 year old father $9k to replace the current AC unit. I called George to check on their work and he fixed it without replacing anything. It works as good as new and will for years as it was just a blown fuse and fixed wires. With the weather continuing to get warmer year over year, it was time to get AC installed. Our house currently only had heating, so we needed to add AC, install a new duct (for stronger output), and rework some existing duct work. Being an older home, the attic was a narrow path in the middle of the house, so it was a bit trickier. After shopping around and getting a few quotes, George was the most helpful and knowledgeable out of the group. Not to mention his quote was competitive with the rest. Unlike some of the other companies, GVK is actually a small family owned and operated business. I knew exactly who would be coming to do the installation and didn't have to worry about a large company sending just one of their employees to do the job. When the day finally came for installation, the team was polite, friendly, clean, and did a great job. They walked me through the job before they started any work, would show me what they have done throughout periods of the day, and then when they were finished they had me make sure the AC and heat were both working in all of the rooms. This review is well overdue but much deserved. George and his team at GVK Heating & Air are five star professionals from top to bottom. GVK has now completed two complete projects for me on two houses and the work he did at both was flawless. At the first home, GVK took out an old furnace and replaced it with a new, high efficiency model. It was in a cramped and awkward space and GVK made fast work of the job. The new one was SO much faster to heat the home and our energy bill dropped significantly. After selling that home, we hired GVK to tear out an old wall-mounted furnace and install two new ductless and semi-ductless heatpump units in our home and attached studio. GVK did the job quickly and when they left, you never knew they were there, except you now have perfectly air conditioned/heated space. Additionally, George helped me find the balance between the most energy efficient and cost-effective models for both projects. I told George from the onset that my day job is energy efficiency consulting for commercial buildings but I didn't know as much about the residential side. Our furnace stopped working in the middle of winter and the first company to do a diagnosis couldn't determine what was wrong. They suggested we start replacing parts until the issue was resolved. No way! That evening I reached out to GVK and Denys was able to come over the next day. He was able to determine the source of the problem in minutes. I called them up based on Yelp reviews, and George called back within a few minutes. He was super-accommodating and made it out to our house for a free estimate by the next morning. Once he got here, George really took the time to explain what was wrong with our heater, and what our options were. He even went into detail about how we could potentially get SDGE to come out and inspect the unit for us, to save us some money. It was clear from the way he was discussing things that he wasn't just out to get our business -- he was genuinely interested in helping us. Ultimately, we decided to hold off on the repairs, since our heater was a bit more broken than we'd realized, and since this wasn't an urgent matter. (I mean, come on, we live in San Diego ... do we even really need a heater?) We moved into a house with only heating, and the ducting was too small for A/C. So our job was to install A/C, replace the old ducting, move the furnace from a closet to the attic to give us more storage, and replace the thermostat with a Nest. We also had limited options for where the unit outside could be placed. They have an option for a slimline condenser unit and it fit perfectly in our backyard between a side wall and the fence and is extremely quiet. Out of the 4 companies I got quotes from, theirs was the most simple to read and understand and was very close to the least expensive quote. They were the only ones to offer the slimline unit because they took our needs into account and are more familiar with these units and how to get and install them. Then I asked around to the different companies about these slimline units and it was clear they didn't want to deal with it. George with GVK explained that they have more experience installing them than most HVAC companies in the area, and they come out better and quieter. I chose GVK and they were extremely professional. The crew showed up on time, kept me in the loop, answered all my questions and concerns. After the job was complete, they cleaned everything up almost nicer than before the job started. There were a few items leftover from the furnace move which they were happy to address. The old furnace closet door had a dent that they patched and painted. They fixed the old piping in that closet so that it would maximize the recovered storage area. One of the new registers they cut into the ceiling just needed some touch up paint around the edge. Everything turned out perfectly. We passed city inspection on the first attempt. George does a two to three week follow up after installation to check the system to make sure everything is still working correctly, just in case there was a setup issue that needs to be addressed. He also does one at the one year mark, so I'm putting that in my calendar. And now we can control heat and air from our phones, any place and any time, efficiently and effectively, and we can be sure that the work was done right.
