Despite a minor scheduling mishap, George made it on time when I called. George loves his job, has inherited his dad's business and in my opinion does an equal or better job than his old man - a worthwhile successor. Our a/c died about 2 days ago and my dad had been stressing about it ever since. I quickly went on Yelp to find an a/c repair company and singled out GVK because of the sincere positive reviews. Ok, lots of companies have great reviews on Yelp but you can kinda get a feeling for which ones are most genuine and accurate, and GVK seemed to have a lot of them. My dad had called other companies and all afternoon guys have been checking out the a/c and presumably giving quotes, mostly for replacement. And then GVK came in the middle of the afternoon, and after about 15-20 minutes of their chit-chatting in the backyard I suddenly hear the unit come back to life with a boom. GVK had found the problem (a tiny fuse) and saved the day! After GVK left my dad comes trudging upstairs just impressed at the guy's demeanor and story and was also floored at how all these other repair techs didn't/couldn't/wouldn't find the problem and it took GVK like a few minutes. He still plans to replace the a/c unit anyway and is now awaiting a quote from GVK. A++++ service. Thanks GVK! You've earned our future business. ETA: 10 minutes after I posted this review my dad, who is barely aware of how Yelp works, just told me to write GVK a good review, to say that George is very honest and knowledgeable. 10* if I could. The best, fastest and most cost-effective service this homeowner has ever experienced. George answers calls quickly, and does the work himself no matter how small. He spliced my severed AC unit's electrical wires in minutes (no thanks to my pruning blade!). He took a few more minutes to open up my AC unit and efficiently clean out all the debris which other companies scoffed at doing. I've paid $79 for ASI (the white glove guys) to fix a thermostat malfunction and all they did was look at the unit and say nothing was wrong. They at least could have taken 15 min to clean out the fan, but they just walked away and refused to apply that fee to a future repair. This is why their gloves stay white. Carini also was unable to diagnose a previous malfunction (probably due to light pruning on the wire at the same spot). Atlas refused to even quote a repair and wanted to charge $89 just to take a look at the wire problem plus $144 for a service maintenance which would cover cleaning the debris out of the unit. Well it turns out George took care of it all for a great price. He repaired the wires and did a thorough maintenance service with ease, skill, and swiftness. He even spotted breakdown in my refrigerant piping insulation which was due to shoddy workmanship by the installer and he is going to replace it to improve my system's efficiency. This is how most... heck - at least half of all plumbers/electricians/contractors/repairmen should be. It's a sad sad truth that he is only one of 2 that I've met in my 17 years of home ownership with such a high level of professional efficiency. After receiving 4 quotes from different companies, GVK was able to beat the price of low budget (low quality) HVAC company, while providing better products and customer service. The job was on the complex side, requiring replacement of two giant old furnaces, adding two separate AC systems, and completely re-doing duct work. They managed to finish the project on time, and even when problems came up during the job, they covered all of the costs. Wow! How awesome is George?! I called two days ago and let him know that my AC unit had a leaking pan. He was able to schedule me for 945am the next morning. On the phone he told me that typically you aren't able to just replace the pan (usually you have to replace the whole unit), but he would come out free of charge to take a look. I dont know of any other repair person that will do a service call free of charge these days. He showed up the next morning on time and was very polite in introducing himself, took his shoes off at the door and started to get to work. Not only did he take a look at the leaking pan and explain my options, but while he was also up in the unit he noticed some plumbing and air vent issues as well. He fixed those because he said he loves being a handyman and fixing things and helping out when he can. So not only was he able to fix the leaking pan, but he also fixed some plumbing and air vent/circulation issues that i had (and had no idea about). SCORE! I will most likely have to replace the entire unit...its about 15 years old now and has run its course. I will most DEFINITELY be giving my business to George at GVK :) read more

Our central AC unit stop blowing cool air (only warm air) and we had 2 other AC repair companies come take a look. Both companies said our AC unit was too old and would cost a few thousand just to repair so we should just buy and have them install a new unit for around five thousand dollars. We called GVK to get one more quote. George of GVK gave a very competitive quoted for a new unit, but given our budget and circumstances also offered and to try to get our old unit working for around $600. It was close to 100 degrees that day. He was the only person who offer even try to get us through the Summer heat. He also offer to refund half the cost if we later bought a new unit from him. He ran sealant through the line to seal the leak and refilled the freon coolant and got the unit working. Unfortunately the next day it was 98 degrees outside and the AC was only able to get the house down to 83. George came by to check out why. He went through the whole system again, added more coolant, cleared some obstructions and got the unit blowing cool air around 59 degrees. He did all this at no charge. He is a good guy, gives a fair price and stands buy his work. I highly recommend him. read more

They were very efficient and I didn't have to worry about my pets getting outside due to hoses connected to a machine in their truck. They brought the machine in! I called GVK after our AC unit failed to turn on. Technician Andru called me back within a couple of hours and scheduled me for the following day at 9am with a one hour arrival window. The crew arrived roughly about 30 minutes late but called to advise me they were on their way. When Vladimir and Slavik came to into my home, without hesitation, took their shoes off and began their inspection. Vladimir and Slavik immediately identified the problem and got the unit running again. The thermometer was making false contact. They went outside to inspect the unit and made their recommendation to keep area around the unit clear and to change the air filters every 3 months. I WAS NOT CHARGED for the visit!!!! George, the owner of GVK, came to our circa 1970's home to give an estimate within just hours of us calling him. We needed to replace the 40 plus year old duct work because of uneven heating/cooling. Well, we soon found out why he has so many 5-star reviews. His service is professional with a reasonable cost. His team of three men came just one week later to replace all of the duct work and build a diverter to better distribute the air throughout the home. They finished all of the work within one day and cleaned up after themselves with their shop vacuum. They even changed where we access our filter and gave us a washable one on request to decrease environmental waste. George came out the following day to inspect the work and make sure we were completely satisfied. He made a few adjustments to make sure that the air is as evenly distributed as possible. In the beginning of September 2015, George of GVK Mechanic Services came to our "rescue" after Dan of Global Warming & Heating left us stranded at the last minute. It was a heat wave and our condo was sweltering hot. George kindly squeezed us in even though he was so busy. Since the A/C was not blowing cold air, we thought it was the freon. It ended up being the control box, which he put a temporary fix on (cool air, yes!). We agreed for him to come back at a later cooler weather date to complete the fix and do a coil cleaning. I'd give GVK more stars if I could. Our AC went out, and as new homeowners we didn't know where to start to find a good, honest repair job. George did not charge us to come out and diagnose our issue, and he was very honest saying there was a chance that he may not be able to fix it on the spot since he doesn't carry around a lot of equipment with him. He penciled me into his already busy schedule, showed up on time, and after 10 minutes he turned our AC back on by switching our circuit breaker. I felt like an idiot, but he did educate me: Good news: AC was fixed this time with the flip of a switch on our circuit breaker. Bad news: George pointed out that our compressor was 20+ years old and that it wouldn't last for much longer. He mentioned that I would be looking at about ~$3k for a brand new central AC unit on our roof, and we discussed more energy efficient units as well. George encouraged me to get multiple quotes ranging from big box stores to his own mom & pop shop. Bottom Line: When my current unit completely goes out, I'm calling George again. Period. More good news: With George's advice, at least we can start saving up for this expense instead of getting hit over the head with a lofty bill a year from now. Thanks George. We recently gave in to global warming and decided to install an air conditioning system in our 1950s era house. George was professional and friendly. Our heater wasn't working right (turning on, but only occasionally providing heat). It took him maybe 5 minutes to figure out that the inducer wasn't working. He came back a few days later when the part had been delivered and installed it and it worked like a charm, while he was there. A few days after he installed the new part, the heater reverted back to its antics (though much quieter thanks to the new inducer) and George came back to diagnose it. After years of finding a sitter for the dogs during the hottest weeks of the year (and slowly melting when we were home during the heat waves), we finally decided that it would make sense to get central air (we already had central heat). After multiple quotes, we decided to go with George to install AC in both our main house (he installed a Trane 14-16 SEER unit) and in our detached / granny flat (he installed two Multi-split indoor fan coil systems). I can't say enough great things about the experience. *George was responsive to calls and texts, getting the quote to me and giving me 30 days to make a decision (pretty standard based on the other quotes I received). *He encouraged me to get at least 3 quotes, and evaluated my current heating system. Where some of the other companies pressured us to upgrade the (mostly new) heating system, George said it could be upgraded and the quality could be improved, but for our usage and in this area (where a cold night is typically 50 degrees), it wasn't necessary. *We actually waited a year and called George back for another quote. He was again extremely responsive and wasn't annoyed at having to come back out to the same house to provide another quote, not knowing if he'd hear from us again. He again suggested getting several quotes. Both quotes were comparable. *Both quotes were extremely reasonable. GVK wasn't the cheapest company to go with, but it also wasn't the most expensive. George was knowledgeable about the products he was selling and where they would provide the most relief. He was very clear with me on areas of the house that he thought the cooling air probably wouldn't be as strong. I appreciated his honesty and ensuring that I was on the same page as he was. *Once we signed the quote and requested dates, he was able to get to us pretty quickly (note it is "winter" in San Diego, which contributes to why we were able to get in so quickly). *It took one day to install the AC unit in the main house, and one day to install the split units (two of them) in the granny flat. They didn't seem to rush it, and in fact they seemed to take their time to ensure it was done correctly. *The crew was efficient, polite, professional, and courteous. I was comfortable leaving them alone in my house doing the work while I ran errands during the day, although it was better for me to be there as they occasionally had questions and were good at confirming locations of where things would be. *The crew cleaned up after themselves, and took the time to answer all of my questions. Of course, they showed me how to use my new AC units in the detached and left all the appropriate paperwork for the systems. They also recommended the best way to care for the units and clean the filters, etc., which was helpful. *We did lock the indoor cats in a room and I had a dog sitter take the dogs; George and the crew didn't indicate it was necessary, but I figured with them coming in and out of the house with materials and such, it was easier to ensure none of the kiddos got lost or took off. I was glad I did because it made it easier for the crew to focus on the job and not whether or not they were shutting doors behind them, etc. I did bring the dogs home during the last hour or two of the install on the last day, and the crew was friendly with the dogs and patient with their natural curiosity. *The only thing that I had to make sure I did was after they left, I had to go around and check all the doors and locks to ensure everything was locked up properly. Not all the doors were locked, but then again, they didn't have the key either. I also had to remember to lock up the electrical panel (it's located outside with a lock on it), and our shed, which they had checked the inside of to see if the multi system unit could fit on the wall that the shed was next to. Overall, I would highly recommend George and his crew for any of your heating / ac needs. They were friendly and professional, and the quality of job they did exceeded my expectations. read more
