I have now been with GVTC for almost three years, and just found out that my bill was going to go up by 60.00. I called GVTC and they reduced that to where it is just going up by 10.00, and they act as if they are doing me a favor. Where I live, I do not have an option for another cable provider. I have several friends that live in San Antonio and are paying the same for much more service/premium channels. I have been forced to be a GVTC customer for over 6 years. We have no other options. I moved to Indian Hills just North of Stone Oak and again GVTC ONLY! OMG, stop the madness. *****I'm foced to pay for a land line at $45.month just to have ISP serv. In addition I have FIber Optics and we have been paying for the 100mps Up / 100mps Down "Double Play" package $69.99 internet fee, plus $45.00 phone line charge (That we never use for calling or taking calls on). We only have 40mps downlaod speed on a good day and a whimpy 7-10mps upload! Forget about backing-up to the cloud with this service. I had 255gb data to send to my dropbox and it takes almost 4 days at their speed. If I was getting 50mps it would be done in 13 hours! and 6 hours at 10mps that I'm paying for! Why your site says "Double Play Pack" FTTH with internet and phone at $69.99 month level gets ya 100mbps up and down is beyond me! LIARS! Called tech support and the man was clueless. read more

For a company who specializes in communication, they sure do put it low on the priority list. I just wanted to second everyone's review here. I've been a customer for two months now living just outside Boerne and have nothing but complaints. First off, the guys who hooked it up were in and out in under 5mins. All they did was jack in the box and left without telling us we needed a different type of router(not the cable modem/router I had used at my previous residence). Off to Walmart to buy another $100 network device. I thought this was a bit unprofessional but once all of my computers and TVs were online I was happy. Great speeds for the first week and then...slower and slower. Now, I have little to no Internet at all. My signal falls out completely for hours at a time. This is not a router issue. It is the signal coming into their box. Tech support just walked me through the caned "turn it off/ back on again" routine which didn't work of course and I had already done this myself several times. She informed me that a technician would be in contact with me in the next couple of days which its been a week now and I have heard nothing back. I'm looking into AT&T and will be switching as soon as possible. Oh, also sent emails to tech support and received no reply. Tried that first before I called. A solid 1/10 rating for this ISP. Most times it works. A lot of the time it doesn't. Speeds vary greatly. Don't be surprised if you don't get what you pay for. And make sure you check your bill monthly to make sure you aren't being charged more than the previous month for no reason. They love doing that to people. Price gouging at its finest. read more

Typical monopoly mindset like most ILEC's and Cooperatives. If you don't like our prices or service, go pound sand; is essentially the message you will receive from them. They are embedded in Boerne and have an absolute monopoly on CATV and Internet service for the majority of its residents. There are few if any alternatives as they have effectively eliminated all competition. This is what happens when there are no viable alternatives, you are at the mercy of the local incumbent provider. I signed up in October and got an OKAY deal for Fiber Optic Internet but the catch was it had to include basic tv, and it was a one year contract. Okay, great. I get my bill January 22nd and it's 10 dollars more. I call today and they said there was a rate change. I asked if I could just cancel the TV, because I never use it, and I don't want to pay extra for something I don't even use. She said I would have to pay an ETF because I am in a contract. I am/ was a GVTC customer for over 15 years. I cancelled my final service today. (Internet) I cancelled my cable tv service a few years ago. My internet had been intermittent at best for over 2 years. My latest internet outage began early June, and as of today when I cancelled my service, I still had no GVTC internet. I've had no follow up calls or nothing from them. Even after I went to the office in person, and spoke to a manager, she was surprised my trouble ticket was still open. After telling me she would look into it, I've heard nothing from them. That was a few weeks ago. Over the 15 years I was a customer, I have found the customer service to be terrible. And the Internet to be worse. I would loose connection DAILY. And at peak times, it would get incredibly slow. I mean dial up slow. When I went in today to return my modem, I was asked why I was cancelling my service. I said because the Internet service is terrible & my internet has been out since June. She said " I'm sorry to hear that. Ok, I've cancelled your service. Thank you" ......that's it!!! I'm sorry we suck, have a nice day. So yes, I've connected new service with another provider. I paid $40/mo for 5mbps with GVTC. I now get 45mbps for $50/mo and new service is actually reliable. Easy math. read more

GVTC? I have never before seen a forum with a consistent "Eek! Methinks not." 1-star rating. I totally agree with all of the things people have said about GVTC - Boerne on this forum, but I'll go you one better: Several years ago, I walked into the Boerne GVTC office and ordered internet; they said that a technician would be out to install it within a couple of days. 2 months later, I was still waiting for installation. I didn't have to wait for their bill, however: they charged me for 2 months of Internet usage! When I went back and asked them how I had managed to use the Internet without either modem nor installation, they graciously waived my bill! May the gods send us a modern, reasonably-priced cable company to save us from GVTC! read more

We set up services then 2 weeks later they called left a voicemail saying sorry the offer they gave us isn't valid and they shut off all of our services. After 12 voicemails all week long I had to take a day off work and go into their office to get a resolution. That was 10 days ago - where they told me to get my services back on I now had to pay more money each month, their mistake is not my fault but I agreed. Now today 10 days later they call to say that on that day they added phone services and they need to set up install. I never agreed to that and this is the first I am hearing of it. I told them I will not take off work again....waiting for a managers call but I left 6 voicemails for a manager before with no call back so I am not holding my breath. GVTC is absolutely the worst cable/internet provider I have ever experienced!! Hands down!! They are very expensive for what you get. The internet service says "Fiber Optics" but it is weak and the router they provide won't even reach in a 1500 sgft home. They told me to go buy a router because theirs is just "so-so". The price is $30 more than my previous internet but includes local channels (some of them don't come in half of the time) I only have wanted internet but they wouldn't charge less and said local channels were included. I'm having what I consider a technical problem. I call GVTC and after too many issues to list here and arranging for a "call back", 2 hours later I actually spoke to a live human. Thus human proceeds to tell me that I need to "hang up" and call back to reach "customer service". Now, having to endure the same series of recorded prompts, only to find out there are NO prompts to reach "customer service". If you push "0" to try and reach an operator, you get a message that you've selected an invalid number. So, now I have pushed some random sequence of numbers to try and reach anyone who can get me in touch with the VERY elusive "customer service". You'd think I was asking for nuclear launch codes when I just need help with THEIR service! FYI - if you select the prompts that you are seeking new service - you get to a live human much faster! read more

I used to think Time Warner was bad. I have had to call four times in the past day to troubleshoot devices not being able to connect to the internet. Each time their solutions only seem to put a band-aid on the problem with service being lost repeatedly after a very short time period. Only after the fourth phone call do they decide to have someone else call me within an 8-hour time frame to schedule an appointment to come out and check the problem. Do yourself a favor, if you can choose any other service, do so. While larger companies may be more expensive, or the customer service may not be all that great, their service is most likely more reliable. read more

The techs who come out to trouble shoot your problems are great. The equipment GVTC provides is anything but. The digital recorder is the worst I've ever used. The menu interface is cumbersome and redundant. This is a "Top 100 Broadband Company in the U.S.?" I had no idea the situation in this country is that bad. I've been a GVTC customer for nine days now and I already called today to cancel my contract and demand a refund for their failure to provide the service for which I paid them. I recently moved into my new house and thought I'd give GVTC a try--100/100mbps FTTH service for $69.99/mo? What's not to love? It sure beats TWC/Spectrum for the equivalent cable internet service, plus 90mbps more upload speed! Well, that's what I thought until I actually got the service from GVTC. From day one, our actual download speeds have been in the gutter. Not the bandwidth (more on that in a minute) but the binary file transfer speed--i.e., downloading files. *A little lesson before my review continues: Bandwidth refers to throughput, as in the amount of bits (note the lower-case b) it is possible to transfer per second, and this is how internet service packages are marketed: 100mbps, 56kbps, etc. It takes 8 of these bits to make one Byte (that is, what actual files are measured in, with a capital B). Because a Byte is 8 times the size of a bit, physical download speed is ideally 12.5% of your total bandwidth (100 divided by 8, naturally). On 100 megabits per second service, a 100 megaByte file should IDEALLY take 8 seconds to download. Obviously this is rarely the case in reality--it's often more like 15 or 20 seconds due to various network issues. Still, one can see that such speed is quite impressive, yes?* My first call to tech support was as unhelpful as it's possible to be on the telephone. After the usual scripted runaround--powercycling the router, powercycling the PC, pointless terminal commands as if ipconfig will tell you why my download speeds are abysmal--it steadily became clear to me that GVTC's techs, at least at this level, either don't know or aren't allowed to admit to the difference between raw bandwidth and actual download speed. I was directed repeatedly to GVTC's speed test tool, which only measures up and down bandwith, as well as latency. After patiently explaining, for what must have been the tenth time, that the bandwidth wasn't the issue, the tech still either did not understand or pretended not to. Here's the problem: I'm paying for 100/100mbps service and am able to download at speeds of, at the absolute best, 2mbps. Occasionally. At 2:30 a.m. The rest of the time, my max download speed is around 600kbps, or roughly what DSL service provided in 1999--the actual average DL speed is more like 200kbps. Downloading anything of any size at all takes far too long. Last night, while attempting to download sheet music for an upcoming worship service, I noticed the 1.5 to 2mB PDF files were taking between 2 and 5 MINUTES to download. INDIVIDUALLY. With my PC wired to the router and every other Wifi-capable device in the house turned off. I eventually just had to download them on my data plan, and my 4G LTE service, at an average of 6mbps, downloaded the files IN BULK in 90 seconds. You read that correctly: my smartphone downloads simple files faster than GVTC's 100mbps fiber. Fast-forward to today. I called and began the apparently Sisyphean process of cancelling my service due to breach of contract on the part of GVTC. I was bounced around to various departments when finally my call was answered by a Service Department supervisor named Troy. Here's where things get interesting. At the most basic level, tech support employees must follow, if not a script, then general guidelines for each phone call for quality assurance and troubleshooting-process purposes. Troy is not a level-one technician, but a supervisor of field technicians, and for that reason will not get the benefit of the doubt from me. Troy claimed that my various tests of actual file download speed were illegitimate because I did not use GVTC's speed test tool--which, again, does not measure download speeds, only bandwidth and latency. The tools I use (and you should, too, because they are extremely informative) are industry standards like speedtest.tele2.net and testmy.net/download, both of which download actual files to your computer to measure the physical download speeds and are used by IT professionals all over to properly QA their networks. (It appears that GVTC does not want its customers to use these tools as the company would much rather hide behind graphical illustrations of bandwidth speeds in order to duck actual service issues) Troy further implied that there was no difference between bandwidth and download speed, apparently believing I was making it up? Or perhaps he thought I didn't know better? I rather think the latter to be the case. After finally getting him to acknowledge that there is, in fact, a problem here, Troy decided he'd have to call me back later after conferring with... Someone, who knows. Called my bank to see if there was a problem with my debit card and was told "NO, everything is fine." So is there some kind of scam running from this location now? Upon moving into out neighborhood that is in san antonio but gvtc wired, my husband and I decided to go with gvtc since at uverse is not available. Our technician quit after trying to install our service unsuccefully... other company's had cut the wires (I am starting to think it was previous owners). He literally was at our house for 10 hours. Another tech came by the next day and said our previous guy had quit. That was a year ago. Now I am beyond done. Barely any HD service, Internet constantly reconnects, and our cable goes out all the damn flipping time (tonight). We were told it's the house wiring but alas 50% of the time it isn't, no breaker flipped. We pay way more than we did with uverse and get way way less. On demand is a joke, box record ability is a joke, and HD is a joke. I had 3 HD DVR boxes with uverse for less money than one DVR box with this company. So done. Contract up this month.... moving on. This company is a joke. If they were not the only internet and cable provider I would cancel in a heart beat. I have only been a customer for 1 month. I originally set up my account for automatic payments but noticed a few days after my bill was due it had not been taken out of my account. I called GVTC and was told the paper work was never submitted and it could still be on someone's desk!!! Umm ok?! The representative goes on to tell me I would need to give her all of my information again to set it up. I was busy with my kids and said I would call back when I had more time. I got home and went a head and paid my bill by phone. I check my account the next morning and there are now 2 charges from GVTC on my account! I call customer service and they said they went ahead and set it up after I called. This company is so unorganized and rude! I am hoping Att Uverse or Time Warner Cable will come to Boerne soon! This is by far the worst cable service I have ever had. We had a problem with the cable TV freezing and then going black thereafter for almost one month and had to pull teeth to get credit on our account. We subsequently ordered the Canelo vs Golovkin fight and missed the first 1.5 hours of the program and were told we could not get the fight discounted because it was a package deal. Highway Robbery!!!. We are moving soon and do not plan to renew our contract nor will we recommend it to anyone!!!! read more

I moved to Boerne due to job requirements that I must have a 45 minute response time to my work. I work a rotating day and night shift. Finally got a time scheduled to be hooked up. It took the technician almost 4 hours to hook up my tv and Internet and one box in the bedroom. At the time I did not have a tv for the bedroom. I finally got my tv and guess what? He didn't leave the correct cabling to hook up the tv. I sent in an email requesting the cable and asked that I be contacted by email as my phone does not get good reception in my office. The next day I get a phone call that I had signed off saying everything worked. No your tech did not want to hook up the one tv I had to test it out because he had been there for 4 hours. I have never seen a company bill you one day after you just make a payment for the next month. read more

I've been with GVTC for going on three years now. They have been holding me hostage since I signed up. I have made several calls complaining about my security system. I've been told on 5, I repeat 5 occasions that a manager would call me back. I've never been called. I had to let my balance go past due in order for anyone to follow up. So once again, I told the caller that I was very unhappy with my security system and wanted to remove it from my bill and refuse to pay any disconnection fees. In the three years I've had the system, I have been able to arm it once. I was told I signed a contract and that if I cancelled, I would not only have to pay a fee, but my bundled services would increase in price. I told her I had to hang up because I was getting mad and was thoroughly disgusted with them. She told me a manager would call me back. I told her I'd love to see that actually happen. It didn't. If you're reading this, its very likely you have limited or no options for communication services in your area. Stay away from GVTC if you can. Don't let them talk you into having your security system tied to your internet. I've never had an internet service that goes out as often as theirs does. read more

Bundling cable, internet & phone with gvtc was/is a huge mistake. Our services go out all the time and screen just says lost cable connection, no gateway, please call customer service to activate this smart card, etc. There's never a good explanation why service stopped working in the middle of watching TV or working on a computer when I always have a huge deadline. But they eventually do something on their end without any repair at my house and it comes back on. Totally shady service. Also I rely on a wifi range extender for cell service at my house so when internet is out I'm without any communication at my house so can't even communicate with GVTC to troubleshoot in any way without getting in my car to reach a signal. Then of course they always try to reach me at my house phone which I just told them has no service!!!!! Idiots. Not only is GVTC a nuisance it is causing me to lose income. Oh, and fiber optic internet speeds is highly overrated, I don't get anywhere near that speed and they tell me it's normal. And to the GVTC guy trolling these reviews telling everyone "I'm sorry, call customer service for help". No sh@t Sherlock, we've all spent plenty of time with your customer service. We don't want to be on the phone all day with agents who can't fix the problem...we just want what we pay big money for to actually work! read more

Hmmm. Well, not product. They don't have that figured out at all. Sorry gvtc. You missed that one. Place? Well, yes. That's a positive. They are quite ubiquitous (as far as the Hill Country is concerned.) So, this is a good attribute for them. Promotions? No - In a word, No. Never. Move-on. Price? Absolutely not! They continue to be overpriced! So, using the aforementioned schema, they earn only 25% as a favorable rating. Wow! That certainly explains a great deal. So, I was able to find a bit of a silver-lining to a very dark cloud, a cloud known as gvtc. But, not by terribly much. What a shame. What schema would you use to evaluate and further consider gvtc? The internet is great for our area, BUT they sold me a Bundle with a home phone. Which is fine, but the bundle was $20 more a month than what I was quoted. I have been a customer since 1983. They have a monopoly. This is a result of this being a rural area and dates back to the 1930's. But as monopolies go, they do not care about the customer. They have a "Shove it!"attitude. If you do not bundle with them they sock you with penalties. They are supposed to be a non-profit but in reality they are non-transparent.I inquired as to how they determined which channels go into their TV bundles and no one can answer that question. They force customers to pay for religious channels that very few customers watch or want. My bundle price went from $165.00 to $205.00 in one month. (With no explanation). They sell internet that can be had in most communities where monopolies are not as defined for $20.00 per month. As a "so called" "MEMBER" of their co-operative I am calling for a "Breakup" of their monopoly so the free market can work. If there were a no star rating, I am sure this company would get one. The technicians are lazy and poorly trained. The call center tech support are even less knowledgeable and very condescending. Every time I called about my issue, all they wanted to do was tell me that if the technician determined MY equipment was faulty, I would be charged for the call. They just wanted to deter me from asking for a service call. The first couple years with them were "okay", but then I was tired of their cable going out on a weekly basis. I called to cancel cable and try to keep internet. Well, that was going to cost me an arm and a leg so the lady actually offered me a "deal" to "upgrade" my existing set-up, added a DVR and two extra boxes, and gave me more bandwidth. All that for less than what I was paying. The technician came out and set up his "media" router and integrate it with my existing wi-fi system. When he left, we had no cable and no wi-fi, and internet on only one hard lined pc. He was clueless to the whole set-up. It took 6 days of talking with the tech "support" guys before one of them would actually send out a technician. Their "media" router was not only installed incorrectly, it was bad. The technician had to replace it and another switch. Fast foreword 3 months to last Saturday. I hear a awful noise coming from their "media" router while I am sitting at my computer. Later that day I notice all the lights on it are blinking and my wife tells me that the cable isn't working. Thank goodness we still have internet! Tech "support" tells us to do all the logical things we have already done and offers nothing but rude condescension. They said they would be at the house on Tuesday at 2pm, so I left work early. No one ever showed. It has now been 6 days and numerous calls. Finally, they call my wife and tell her they will be at the house on Wednesday, 6 days from today, between noon and 4. Like I can afford to take all this time off of work. read more

If I could give them negative stars I would. Last year for about two months our internet would just randomly drop every evening or every other evening around the same time. We thought it was power at first but verified the outside GVTC box was indeed powered. GVTC pointed the finger out our brand new high-end router. I told them this couldn't be the case as our phone (also fiber optic based) was also not working and had no dial tone. After weeks of back and forth finger pointing, I had to resort to calling billing to ask for a discount, and then shortly thereafter their techs found a faulty piece of equipment in their local loop that made the problems go away. The internet has been fine since, but certain websites I frequent for business have been randomly blocked. Time Warner coverage couldn't arrive a minute too soon. For now I use my Verizon Hotspot, since radio waves from a distant tower seem to be more reliable their Gag-A Region Fiber. read more
