Bacon, egg, and cheese on an everything bagel
    Michael S.

This is a classic minimart deli. You walk straight to the counter and order your sandwich and then bring it to the cash register. It's a small place and they make your food quickly. Onto the food. Look at that bacon, egg, and cheese bagel sandwich! So much bacon!!! It was amazing!!!

    Becca S.

I saw this deli on instagram for their bacon egg and cheese bagel. I ordered the sausage egg and cheese, added avocado because I'm not a huge fan of bacon. The sandwich lived up to the hype. It was a really good sandwich. My only gripe was that I hold my bagel to a very high standard and this bagel was dry and bready. There was a sign inside that said their bagels were sourced from a local shop, but I was not a fan. I would happily go back, but I wouldn't get a bagel sandwich. They have lots of good options and I would get something on a roll next time.

This little store is packed with great sandwiches and bagels! It gets pretty busy here during breakfast/lunch hours. I got the avocado bagel and it includes tomatoes and lettuce, a vegan BLT essentially. I did not expect it to be such a gigantic bagel sandwich!! But man do they load up on the avocados!

It's hard for me to go to spot and find a really good breakfast bagel nowadays. I feel like I've had the best of the best and nothing touches it anymore. But boy o boy does this place take the cake. One of the best bagels I have ever gotten. Regardless of geographical location. I see the reviews this place had and needed to give it a shot myself. The people are not lying. It's simply a convenient store with a kitchen. But everything they are cooking is made to order perfection. Could not recommend this place highly enough.

Look how much tomato on my egg and cheese on a whole wheat everything.
    Gabrielle B.

Very good and cheap bagel sandwich. I love a whole wheat everything more than my own kin. This one was no exception. They loaded the tomato, it's the most I've ever received on a sandwich. The line was out the door but they cook very efficiently and you are out of there quick. The staff was busy but ready to help. Not a lot of space and no seating but I would very much go back. Perhaps I'll see you there.

For what it's worth, GW Deli is a good option for George Washington University students and professionals in the Foggy Bottom area. The inside is cozy and has more of a convenience store feel than a deli, however, once you make your way to the back of the store you get more of the DC carry-out experience. The people who take the food orders are friendly and so are the cooks and attendants at the register. You can get your classic, but basic breakfast and lunch sandwiches here. No bells and whistles. Their breakfast sandwiches are known to be generous portions. If you're not into the thrill of excess bacon, I recommend asking them to go easy on the bacon on your breakfast sandwich. The bacon isn't the best quality, so your sandwich can easily become one note and lack depth of flavor, even if your sandwich has cheese. Service is quick and the ordering process is simple. Aside from the hot and cold food, you can purchase other items here like breakfast baked goods, drinks, and the usual convenience store items.

Zero nonsense. GWD really cranks out some quality sandwiches. Despite being busy (lunchtime), we were on our way with a hot sandwich in under 10 minutes. We ordered a hot roast beef sandwich and provolone. Solid cuts, great flavor, and (again) zero nonsense. Friends recommended GWD because it reminded them of New York. Dr. Browns is always a nice touch. While we see the NY similarities, we ALSO appreciate the counter ladies being so nice and willing to customize their menu.

This place has been on my list for about 5 years and I finally made it. In short: it was worth the wait. The line was out of the door when I arrived but moved relatively fast. It is simply a deli in a convenience store. The store has tons of snack options that will go well with whatever sandwich you order. The people working are super friendly and will accommodate any order with whatever ingredients they have on their menu. I ordered bacon, egg, and cheese with avocado on a jalapeño bagel. Absolutely delicious. The sandwich was overflowing with bacon and had simple but satisfying flavor. Will go back whenever I am in the area!

    I mean, c'mon. It's a festival of bacon on a sub roll.
    Katherine D.

A bodega-style deli where all your bacon eating dreams come true. If you really want to bacon-it-up, order a BLT on a sub roll and then just marvel at the sheer amount.

This place is the real deal. First things first. I ordered a sesame bagel with cream cheese, and it absolutely hit the spot. The bagel was fresh, perfectly chewy, and had a great crust with just the right amount of sesame seeds (I'm picky about that!). The cream cheese was generously spread and super creamy. Honestly, if you blindfolded me, I might have thought I was back in NY. To go with it, I had an iced latte with oat milk and vanilla. It was delicious, not overly sweet, and really smooth! exactly what I wanted, especially on a hot D.C. morning. The staff at Pearl's were incredibly friendly and patient, even though I asked a few (probably annoying) questions about their bagels and cream cheese flavors. They really seem to care about their bagels and their customers, which goes a long way. The shop itself is small, with just a handful of seats, but I had no trouble finding a spot when I was there. I could see it getting a little packed during a busy morning rush, but the vibe is cozy and relaxed. It's definitely a great place to grab a quick bite or coffee, whether you're hanging solo or with a friend!

Their bagels are a little different from the classic NYC style, but that is intentional -- they did a great job merging the NYC and Montreal styles to create a delightfully dense bagel with a subtly sweet, charred, and smoky flavor. Call Your Mother offers a variety of bagel flavors, including your classic everything, plain, and sesame, as well as a rotating menu of seasonal specials including anything from maple salt and honey to jalapeno cheddar or za'atar. The bagels are also a smidge flatter than the classic NYC bagel, which is a much-needed adjustment given how much they pack into the sandwiches. I usually get The Edgewater, a wonderful vegetarian sandwich topped with mashed avocado, garlic herb cream cheese, pickled veggies, cucumber, and shredded carrots. The sandwiches are all massive (and easily multiple meals), but I appreciate that The Edgewater feels slightly lighter with all the veggies, but still has plenty of richness from both the cream cheese and avocado (and, of course, the super dense bagel itself). There's often a line, especially on the weekends, but Call Your Mother is always worth the wait. They don't have an indoor area, so you have to place your order at their window and then hang out either by the pick-up window or in their cute little outdoor seating area. Everything is, in true CYM fashion, decorated with a number of cute pink and blue paintings to create a fun, chipper, and upbeat energy.
