When Gyro Xpress replaced whatever it replaced in 2014, I thought it wasn't long for this world. How could a restaurant with a Mediterranean menu survive on this side of the street on this block, where most of the restaurants have changed over three or four times since I moved to San Francisco? Well, survive Gyro Xpress has, but I'm not actually sure how. The food is OK. It's overpriced, but that high price point isn't really driving this review or its low rating. I might be in the minority, but I'd prefer to pay more for a larger portion than less for a smaller portion. Gyro Xpress apparently thinks its prices are already too high, so they made the portions smaller rather than raising the prices. It's a large space that feels like it has potential, but the majority of the tables require you to sit at high stools and be seen through the large windows from the outside. I don't generally wear shorts in San Francisco, so there's nothing to be seen here, but I abhor high seats. When I'm eating, I want to eat, not balance. It's order at the counter and have your food brought to your table. They try to force you to use a touchscreen, but I always order in person, because I don't work for Gyro Xpress and don't need to be doing its job for it. The "service" is plopping your food at your table. After that, you never see anyone again, which always makes me wonder why the default tip at the touchscreens is like 18 percent. What service would I be tipping for, exactly? The only real positive is its nice bathroom. Honestly, it's also super useful to have a place in the Castro that's open late and offers vegetarian food, especially when you're in a bind because it's later than you thought and most of the places near where you live closed at nine p.m., because we live in the sleepiest big city in the United States! read more

This place is on Castro st and we simply stopped by to grab a bite. This place has casual food eatery vibe. Turned out this is Amazing meditarían food. Portion size is very fulfilling. Service was good, Our food came pretty quickly. Chicken gyro plate, chicken gyro wrap was delish. Some chicken bites were succulent and some were dry. As many times as I've frequented the Castro, I never considered stopping here to eat after a night out until recently. I'm glad I did because I've been missing out! The menu has so many options and the food was delicious. My friends and I closed the place down and the staff was patient with us without rushing us out (Thank you!) despite it being so late. Amazing food but ive gotten the wrong order 3 times. Im not sure if the music is too loud or maybe the kitchen is too loud to hear the orders at the register but I have a beef allergy and clearly say I want chicken when I order. 3 times I have recieved the wrong item with beef (For example, I orderd chicken gyro bowl with fries and got rice and beef bowl with chick peas). I called them afterwards each time and they did not offer to replace the wrong item with the right one so I had to throw away my dinner 3 times and waste $16+. I would give them a 5 star if they had at least offered to have me bring it back and swap it for something I could eat but they did not. On one of the corners in the Castro, the most delicious falafel and seasoned fries await to be experienced! Last weekend I went into the City to visit some friends and stopped in here for lunch. This restaurant has a neighborhood hangout cozy vibe to it, with about five or so tables and countertop seating. The staff are always pleasant and helpful. I have tried Gyro xpress food at our office for one of the catered lunches. I had the chicken gyro wrap it was really juice and delicious. The chicken skewer was nicely seasoned and cooked. with some grilled veggies and salad. Tried 1 falafel it was ok. the taziki sauce was smooth and refreshing. Most of my experiences with late night meals are not always favorable but this place is different and was the perfect amount of food. The adventure started at the top of Kite Hill when my boyfriend looked out at San Francisco and said, "I really want a gyro." I tried the Combo Gyro Wrap with lamb-beef and chicken, and while the wrap was neatly wrapped in foil with no leakage, I found it a bit too salty for my taste. On the plus side, the Chef's Salad was very fresh and quite tasty, which was a nice complement to the meal. Next time, I may try the chicken gyro wrap for a different flavor. This place has been open for some years now and never got a chance to try it out till Sunday evening. You stand in line and order through an iPad, pretty simple and quick. The place looked clean and neat inside, plenty of seating for small or large groups. Got my food in a decent amount of time, I ordered the chicken kabobs. Food was delicious honestly. The issue started at 4am Monday when I had horrible stomach pain and spent Monday all day by the toilet. Went to order some food after a night out in the town and was met with a restroom that has no toilet paper, no soap, no seat covers, and bloody napkins on the floor. I arrived and the owner or manager, whoever the short guy with a combover is.... Told me before I could use or grab any utensils I must purchase something, which is fine. However, what I didn't expect is I would be meet with those previously mentioned gifts. I purchased a bowl, a drink, and a combo. I learned that I was allowed to purchase the items however, I was forced to use a disgusting restroom that had blood soaked napkins on the floor. No toilet seat covers. No toilet tissue. And no soap! Had I have known this I would have definitely used my money and services elsewhere. Feels like I am being bullied and pressured into using their services for their convenience without having a consideration as a paying customer.
