I can only speak for the lunch special, not the ayce menu or dinner menu. The service is fast and good, the dark atmosphere is very nice, and the food is good. The lunch special is an especially good value. Salad, soup, rice, and two portions of meat for you to cook for around 15 dollars. The smokeless barbeque claim is mostly true, I don't feel the need to change my clothes after eating here. It came time to pay for the bill! So I paid and the waiter picked up the bill. Usually this should not take long. It did. Waiter took 10 minutes to come back just to let me know that he had lost my only form of payment. He continued asking whether or not we had even placed a card in the bill holder...we did, which is exactly the reason he picked up the bill! He said some bullshit "I'm sorry" before proceeding to ask for another form of PAYMENT! This man had yet to even try to find my card HE had lost. No compensation, no real accountability. Just a shitty "I'm sorry" and "do you have another form of payment please?". Frankly my meal should've been compensated for his lack of professionalism. Overall a pretty chaotic experience. We went for lunch on Monday and it was pretty busy but had some open tables. We waited for about 10 minutes at the front before being seated due to the waitstaff needing to clean tables and take care of things. Once seated, it was all over the place as the waitresses all were running around everywhere. Once we ordered, they lit the flame and brought the grill and the raw meat but didn't give us anything else. We had to wait to get utensils, napkins, and tongs to cook the meat. Once we started cooking, the grill was already burnt due to being on for a while. That gave the meat an extra char that we didn't want and caused the flames to light up pretty big. The food itself was pretty good, especially great value for the lunch special. However, the staff doesn't appear to be trained well as they were running around and forgetting things. Gyu-kaku is always a 10/10 experience for me. The service here is amazing and the servers are always kind and attentive. I've been here on many occasions and each time has been great, from parties of 1-10 each time we were well taken care of. Making a reservation while not necessary is very easy to do on their APP plus you can easily rack up points to redeem for the next meal easily. Quality of food is great, stand outs for me are toro beef (sweet), the gyukaku salad, tuna volcano (a must), the harami beef, and their green tea ice cream is a must to end the meal on. Korean meats have lots of sauces and fattier cuts. The Japanese bbq focuses on the prime meat cuts and the embracing the natural rich flavor. A forewarning: A party of 6+ means cramped quarters and only 1 cooking stove so be prepared doe that! I decided to try the A5 Wagyu beef. It: $49 for 5 pieces but absolutely worth it! Do NOT overcook this cut! If you do, you ruin the flavor and magical delicious marbling. The flavor makes your toes curl up in sheer delight from rich indulgence. My group was a party of 7 so we got the Gyu-Kaku Feast which is set for 7 people. Let me tell you, that's MORE than enough for a party of 6. You get 2 salads, 2 soups, 2 beef fried rice and a fantastic selection of beef cuts and vegetables. Oh and also servings of shrimp and pork belly. Gyu-kaku is the first Japanese BBQ restaurant I've tried! For a barbecue restaurant, there was very little to no smoke smell. The meats were decent quality. However, the overall meal was not too memorable for me. The pricing is on the higher side as well. Went here for Christmas dinner. Although most of it tasted good, the experience was mostly inconvenient and chaotic. We weren't sure how the ordering went, so we followed our server's advice and got one of their "packages". Only afterwards, did we realize this was a mistake. The table tops are very worn-off wooden tops, and in the center of what I would consider a standard-sized booth table, is a large sunken metal fire pit. They turn the heat/flame on when you sit down, and everything seems rushed, as they only allow one hour's stay with a reservation (of two people). The "package" we ordered had endless things in it, much of which was wasted on us. They were all put on the table together, filling the entire table. One was miso soup, which had the only implement, other than the supplied chop sticks. The soup was, however, impossible for me to consume, as you either had to lean over it to spoon it into your mouth, or hold it up. It was too hot to hold, and i couldn't bend over to drink it, because the fire pit was too close and hot on my forehead. Things like the salad (not tasty) and the endaname beans (not tasty , and had to be eaten with hands), as well as the bowl of white rice, required your own chopsticks to put some into one of the mysterious very small bowls provided. About 5-6 small plates of mostly thinly-sliced, raw meat also crowded the table, with only the metal-toothed cooking tongs to use, they got hot when placing the meat on the fire pit. That was tedious, and you had to be pretty tall to see into your end of the fire pit. The meats were of varying thickness, so you never really knew when they were cooked. The dessert was a marshmallow on a tasteless piece of chocolate and a graham cracker...you had to cook the marshmallow to make a sort of s'mores. The seats were nasty and all cracked. When we were brought into our table, it was past the awful garbage cart of used plates and foods. It wasn't worth the $75+ we spent, and certainly ly won't be returning. Gyu-Kaku is my favorite yakiniku chain :) I came to this one for the first time and I was really impressed with the measures that they were taking for keeping the customers safe. They're currently doing reservation only. You should either call them or making a reservation on their website before going there. Once you get there, they will take your temperature, which is great because you can see that they are taking extra measures. Current max capacity said 65 people inside the restaurant so every other booth was closed so people can enjoy the food while keeping social distance. Food was great as always. Since I wasn't so hungry, I just ordered a few plates and desserts. However, if you're extra hungry, I'd recommend you to order their course menu OR you can come during their happy hour (before 6pm) to get discounts. read more

The explanation provided as a mere "communication issue" felt dismissive and insufficient given the context of the evening. This experience not only wasted our time but also impacted our Valentine's Day negatively, a day when we had looked forward to enjoying a special meal at your establishment. I'm a huge fan of Gyu Kaku, but the Preston location is the worst I've been to. For some reason, their meat quality is not as good. The service here is also lackluster because no one checked up on me a single time during the hour I was there. Don't get me wrong.
