If I could give 500 stars I would honestly. Last night I had the pleasure of having dinner at Gen Korean bbq house in Frisco on Warren parkway. WOW. What can I say? The food was extremely delicious. Gen K BBQ is officially my new favourite K bbq spot. The staff there are also extremely hospitable. There was something I ordered on the menu that they didn't have and the manager came to apologize and let us order 2 items from their premium menu to say sorry. And our server Benny? LOVED HIM! Benny if you see this, you is smart, you is appreciated, you is funny and you is kind. Benny brought a huge smile on my face everytime he came to our table and even gave us a nice deal on drinks. The place was clean and ambiance was great too! 10000/10 experience and definitely the best dine in experience I've ever had. This is my new favourite spot. read more

We came here on a Sunday for an early dinner. Our server starts off by saying that he's got a lot of tables, which honestly is not a good sign. Sometimes he was nowhere to be seen or circling around in the kitchen looking frantic and lost. We struggled to get his attention and it felt like he avoided our table.. suffice to say service was just terrible. We waited almost 15min just to get our check. The food at Gen isn't anything special, but I suppose for the price, it's ok. The rice is mushy with almost zero texture. Idk how they can serve that. This was our third time here and it has just confirmed for us that we would rather drive out further to Carrolton to get our Korean Bbq fix. read more

Honestly, very disappointed. You're better off going to Bons Korean BBQ chain or other places. Restaurant is beautiful, very clean and smells great however, lacked beyond that. My woman and I got there right on time, we stood up at the counter for 6 minutes before someone got to us. And no, it wasn't busy or packed. Let's talk price. We paid for the premium menu, an additional $20 per person for the luxury meat. Total bill came out at $120 for us both, no tip. Those "premium meats" were only allowed 1 serving at a time. Our server was decent. Took his time coming back to us, so despite us being there 90 minutes, we only tried 3/4 premium meats. They give you GIANT short ribs. I'm talking a whole 2 foot piece of meat. They had scissors. At the table. No steak knife. No forks. Chopsticks and full meat scissors. We couldn't even cut it without using our hands. The meat all around was seasoned, okay. HEAVY sauce. Pineapple steak was rubber, the Bulgogi was insanely too sweet, dripping in marinade. The beef belly was outstanding though. The rice? Overcooked. Rubber. No seasoning. Comes in a bowl and you pour it on a flat glass tray. It spills. Everywhere. And then let's talk about the grill at the table. Any other place? It gets replaced instantly once they see it's dirty. Here? Nah. They give you an ice cube and tell YOU TO CLEAN IT YOURSELF. My girlfriend nearly burned herself. It's a gas grille, and you want your PAYING customers to CLEAN it ourselves...? While we eat? Awful experience. For $60 a person I would expect much better food, much easier and convenient service. Yes, yes, yes -- every time! This place never disappoints. The menu selection is huge, with so many great options to choose from. I love the prices, the vibe, and the quick, friendly service. Definitely come here hungry -- this isn't the place for just a light bite (lol, I guess you could, but you'll want to try everything!). I've been to several AYCE Korean BBQ places and this last experience at Gen had to be the worst that I've had. We showed up around 1:30 PM on a Monday so the lunch rush was pretty much finished and there was still a ~30 minute wait. Once we got seated our server was quick to take our drink order and first round of meats but then the waits really started. It took almost another 30-40 minutes for us to be served our first order of bulgogi and steak. For a restaurant that requires your guest to do all the cooking we couldn't understand why it would take so long to put the meats on the plate and bring it out to the table. This wait time continued for every order that we placed to the point that we had received maybe 4 plates in the 1.5 hours that we had been seated. The staff could definitely see the annoyance in our faces and the other tables around us that were experiencing the same issue but they seemed to have their hands tied. The quality of the meats here is also definitely much worse than other KBBQ places that we've been to. Like many other Yelpers we also experienced that the bulgogi was almost a ground beef texture and the flavors overall were definitely lacking. Our favorites were definitely the pineapple steak and the pork bulgogi. Safe to say, even though this place is now for it's trendy design... we won't be back. read more

We came here for the all you can eat! It's around $30/person before tax/tip for dinner. They have a decent meat selection. I liked the beef galbi (short ribs) and spicy pork! I like the sauces and green tea salt that they give you! Our servicer was on top of changing the grill grates and taking additional orders. The interior is nice and clean. Floors are oily because of all the grilling. It's located in a mini Asian-town plaza with lots of parking. I was so stuffed at the end of the meal, but I tried the hotteok with a caramelized brown sugar filling. It was delicious! read more

First time coming, very crowded area on a Saturday. This is an all you can eat dinner, but if you don't eat beef you might find the food a little simple. Appetizer, chicken, and rice. They had 3 or 4 types of chicken. All are ok. They bring out the food a little slow and there's only one burner so you can't really cook too much at once. There's also a note there's a 2 hr time limit, but after trying the dishes I didn't see enough to eat. Basically if you don't eat beef, there's no way you can eat your $32's. Good thing we didn't go premium for $53. People do seem to like it, but I would pass. read more

Unfortunately our first experience with Korean BBQ was at Gen. To say it was a disappointment is an understatement. We asked MULTIPLE times for a few forks, specifically for one of our guests with a disability, and our waiter, who seemed to hate his job, and us, kept forgetting/ ignoring the request as our rice sat getting cold. The appetizers tasted like frozen food from Costco, the grill did not seem hot enough and I'm still not sure if our chicken ever cooked all the way through. We were given a RADISH to clean the grill with no instruction on how, just a radish...: figure it out, well it didn't work! The grill got a film of black burnt glaze all over it which then got all over the subsequent food we put on it, gross! Needless to say, we won't be back to Gen, but would like to try legit Korean BBQ some day. Sigh... read more

Went for a lunch which was $20 for the ayce lunch on the weekdays. We had 13 rope. Children under age 5 are free I believe. They have you scan a QR code, but I honestly prefer a physical menu for ordering. Only halfway thru did we realize that the coke drinks were included, so we finally had our pick at that time. I felt the staff was a bit undermanned as the staff was going table to table in a constant flurry of activity, trying to take orders. Perhaps the organization could use some work to streamline a little. Felt our server was great, but with a large group it was challenging I'm sure. They have a lot of cuts of beef which I've not really had before. But after a first and second round I knew what I liked. #5 Beef and the #10 cut. I found that if I cut up the short rib fingers (the rough sinew around the bones) it became more palatable. The calamari steak was great I liked it. And the rice paper is something I usually don't have at KBbq. Also a number of hot dishes that could be ordered as well like tonkatsu and chap chae. I thought the pork belly was really good as was the gen strip. I'll consider Gen again. I like the vibe, staff is good and the variety of cuts is good to see. read more

I had a frustrating experience today due to inconsistent and misleading pricing. At 1:52 PM on May 5th, I called the restaurant to confirm the lunch buffet price and was clearly told it was $20.99. Based on that information, I decided to go. However, when I arrived at 2:40 PM, I was told at the door that because it's Cinco de Mayo, they were charging a "holiday dinner price" instead. This is not acceptable. If pricing changes for a holiday, especially something as widely known as Cinco de Mayo, that information should be clearly communicated over the phone. Giving one price and then charging another upon arrival feels dishonest and wastes customers' time. I strongly recommend better communication and transparency with customers to avoid situations like this. read more

It is all you can eat but it took them a long time to bring out the food and they said you can eat for 2 hrs. Meats don't taste good. Beef bulgogi is more like beef patty and tastes weird. We ordered beef bulgogi, came out ground beef patty, asked waiter and he said yeah it is ground beef. My expectations of bulgogi is thinly sliced marinated beef. Thats another shocker. Service: sorta bad, from first walking in, no one greet us for quite a while, maybe understaff(?), wait time is long for each order, you can only order 4 raw meats, and 3 appetizers at a time. So most of the time your table is empty without food, stare at each other in awkward silence. And they play this latin/Spanish hip hop whatever music loud in a korean bbq? that makes no sense. first: the food. im going to break everything down white rice- not the best texture but with some soy and sesame sauce it makes a good pairing with the meats korean fried chicken- just popcorn chicken with some sauce on top, nothing crazy. probably a good pick if you have picky eaters ribs- the texure is really good and they come cooked so its a great starter. the flavor my boyfriend and i disagree on: i think its great but he thinks its "kind of whatever. " gochujamg beef belly- a MUST. best thing on the menu ive had so far!! we both love love it. especially the korean flavored one samgybusal- theres more fat than meat so unless you like eating pure fat i wouldnt get this. it also takes forever to cook and the flavor just isnt worth it. wouldnt get again beef bulgolgi- same thing as before, i like the flavor but i cant get over the squishy texture. its really good but man i can only eat it with rice. my boyfriend gave it a 7/10 deep fried mandu- dumplings. theyre dumplings. nothing too special- nothing bad. i wouldnt get again just cause they take up precious meat real-estate in my tummy but if i was craving dumplings for sure gen signature yangyum galbi- REALLY good flavor and texture but it did have bones in it so be careful. spicy calamari- no. maybe its because im so used to fried calamari but i didnt care much for the flavor or texture of this. it also took a bit to cook. idk wouldnt get this again nook gan sal- the flavor of this is great but the texture can be a bit chewy for my liking. my boyfriend said it was just okay so maybe id give this another go next time i come and see if i can cook the heavy texture out of it chadol- i thought this was completely flavorless but my boyfriend said it was the best thing? soo idk take that as u will. worth a try for sure the inside is really date worthy since its so clean and dark with little overhead lighting. the servers are really nice and fast as always but they do try and upsell a lot so be careful with that read more

Out of all of the Gen locations I've visited, this one has topped it all. Service is S tier. Jocelyn and Kyson were probably the best people I had the pleasure of interacting with! They were very friendly and hospitable! Additionally, they were quick with getting our food out and making sure our experience of everything was as best as possible. The meat on the other hand? It was absolutely fresh in comparison to other locations! My all time favorite is the honey soy beef belly and Gen Frisco completely blew its other locations out of the water. We were seated right away, the busser boy asked if we wanted refills on our rice when he was taking the empty bowl away as opposed to just clearing the dishes. Coming in on a weekend, the service was great! They paced themselves and Carlos, our server, made sure we had everything we needed. Everyone was super friendly and fast! The food itself is also pretty good, the cuts were great this time and consistent. As usual I love the honey beef belly and Galbi, as those had the most flavor. The brisket this time was cut a little thick and didn't have much marbling at all, making it a bit tough, but their fattier cuts were really good! Their sides like soondooboo soup, salad, cheese tonkatsu, and hotteok dessert were also nice for options of flavor, and all of these were pretty good too, not mind blowing amazing but pretty good, especially for AYCE. They were really good about changing the grills whenever it got burned, always refilled water, and really paid attention. Really awesome service! I was disappointed coming here on the Thanksgiving day. The store was about half full. I ordered an honey beef belly. It first came with 90% fat (not sure if this is considered edible - see pictures), and it took them 15 mins to exchange a new one. We spoke to the store manager, and he said "THEY CAN'T CONTROL WHICH PART OF THE MEAT IS BEING CUT AND SERVED."After we are done with the order, I ordered the same thing again....and we waited for 20 mins, the server keeps coming back and telling me they are working on it. I waited for 40 mins and they came back and told me they are sorry, it appeared that the order didn't go through. I don't understand why they couldn't figure that out. We've sat here for three hours and we went from hungry to full to hungry again. It was at this moment where we asked for a manager and he did what he could to salvage our holiday dinner, but the lack of awareness on the wait staff is concerning. Another point where I'm bewildered - I asked for warm water and the server said they don't have that, so I had to order hot tea and also get a glass of water. The server dropped off a glass of cold water, a cup of hot water and the tea came separately as a tea bag. This review is about the service, not the food. I am a long-time fan of the GEN restaurant chain. I have visited them in multiple cities and have come to expect a certain level of service. The service was poor from the moment my friend and I walked in the door. We walked up to the host stand and had to make it known that we were standing there because the host had his back to the door and was too busy talking to see we had walked in. Then we were seated. The restaurant was not full, so there should have been no reason why we had to wait over ten minutes for our first meats to come to the table. I had to keep asking for things that I had already asked for. The entire dining experience was just not good. I was embarrassed because it was my friend's first visit. I convinced her to come with me. This was a very disappointing meal. Someone needs to figure out the service issues as soon as possible or there will be more disappointed customers. read more

I was in the mood for Korean BBQ, and unfortunately, Gen Korean BBQ House was the only one that fit the bill in Frisco. When I asked for another table she made us wait instead of seating us somewhere else. Then she proceeded to tell us to wait while she started to seat other parties at the nice tables. Totally unprofessional and rude. We waited for 5 minutes then left to go to another BBQ restaurant down the street It's clear that Gen's business model is to pack the tables with parties greater than two people while leaving the smaller parties in reserve.
