This review is about loyalty and where it leads. As customers for 20+ years, we faithfully serviced all our Honda cars with Honda Acura Specialists with plans to preserve and extend the life of our latest vehicles, a CR-V, Odyssey, and Pilot. Three premature belt/chain failures from non-Honda aftermarket parts installed by HAS on their recommendation have cost us over $40,000 within an 11-month time frame. (addl repairs done right elsewhere, lost work, travel to retrieve broken down van n Indiana and trade in with no leverage, shuffle cars and lives while a destroyed car and engine are out of service). A trusted Honda dealership locally has confirmed the latest failure is not Honda parts. All three costly maintenance decisions meant to help us have failed prematurely and Honda Acura Specialists will not show any measure of accountability. As I write this, we are poised to replace the third engine destroyed by HAS' terrible advice re aftermarket parts in our Pilot. Bent valves confirmed this morning. Despite our decades as a customer, and multiple highly reasonable offers of shared expenses, the most accountability the auto shop owner could muster was half off his shoddy labor for his 4-16 hour estimate of time to install a new engine. No empathy. No realization of the disruption or safety concerns. He will NEVER touch a car my kids drive and trust to keep them safe. Additionally, we have safety concerns about the after market parts used in all three cars. So, this review is meant as a public notice of our safety concerns. I would like to give no stars. I took my car here for repair 3 times, they charged me each time but never fixed it. The 3rd time they said it was fixed but as soon as I tried to leave the check engine light was still on and they never even checked it. I went back to the counter immediately to let them know, and they had a tech check it again. After they checked it the 4th time they wanted to charge me even more money. When I mentioned I had already paid for this check engine light to be fixed 3 other times to the tune of several hindered dollars, I thought they might consider fixing it correctly for free or refund my last transaction. Instead the woman behind the desk became really rude, and told me to leave and not come back. They wouldn't refund my money and never fixed my car, and treated me horribly on top of it. I seriously love this place and am so grateful I found them. I've had my car done here twice now, first a time up and brakes and most recently a transmission issue due to a 3rd clutch switch. The prices are very very reasonable (better than the dealership by a long shot) and the customer service is impeccable. They make picking up your car after hours super easy and in general just do great work that I trust is correctly done the first time. They do NOT upsell and only recommend additional work if you truly need it. They're informative and this is the only shop that I will let touch my Honda Fit for as long as I own it. Maybe Ha! specialists! But nothing funny about this place. Don't go here. Go to Wal-Tec instead. They may do good work here but they automatically go to the most expensive route first. Also, their front desk person has seemingly no understanding of customer service or how to tell someone their engine needs replaced. But why is she doing that and not a mechanic??? And when you're dropping a bomb on someone like that maybe carefully explain what's going on. And don't act like you're in a hurry. It's like a doctor: "oh, and, almost forgot to tell you - you have cancer. Okay, catch you around. Don't forget your co-pay". Most people don't know cars nowadays. But the real kicker is they just did my timing belt 6 weeks ago and took no responsibility for that possibly causing the engine issue. It's 2016 Honda that has been taken care of. It does not add up. That's why these companies have insurance. If it was their mistake or even a component, make it right. Now I'm stuck with thousands of dollars for a new engine with hardly any explanation. They'll nickel and dime you here and, frankly, I'll never trust this place even though it's convenient. This is not the friendly mechanic you trust - word of mouth kind of place. In a gist: Gregg will take care of you and your car without emptying your wallet. Before I go any further, I need to say that I have a 1997 Honda Accord with 210,000+ miles that is still on the original clutch and original transmission. It has been in my family since 1998, and still is an incredibly dependable car. But parts do wear out and things need to be fixed. After some pretty serious issues had a botched fixing at another mechanic this past May, a friend recommended I go to Gregg to have my Honda taken care of properly. Since then, he has taken care of rotors, subsequent gasket leaks (related to the previously mentioned serious issues that the other mechanic screwed up), and general scheduled maintenance. When he gets parts cheaper than expected, his bill to me reflects that. When a process doesn't take as long as expected, his bill reflects that. On my last visit, he changed my air filter without charging me. I didn't even realize he had done this until I took my car in for an oil change and the guy showed me my air filter. He's honest, trustworthy, a damn good mechanic, and explains things to non-mechanics like me in words that I can actually understand, showing me what he's talking about if necessary. I have a 2001 Honda Civic, 133k miles. 16 yr old son drives it. I take it to Greg as needed, but once a year minimum for a look over. Things I think need replaced he fixes and cleans to make it go another year without costly expense. If it needs replaced, cost is always reasonable. Honest, good work, never an issue. Gregg Swarz (owner) was recommended by my local Honda specialist when I got stranded in Cleveland after my clutch went out. Unfortunately, we were 21 miles away from him and only 2 miles from a dealership. Gregg didn't perform any services for me, but he did help me understand the cost of replacing a clutch in my 2008 Honda Civic SI. I was going pay for the tow to him to repair because he quoted $1000 less than the dealership. However, the dealership lowered their price based on his quote and I avoided the hassle of the tow. Gregg talked to me multiple times and was always friendly. Without his help I could have overpaid. read more

A national chain (let's call them "Fonro" Muffler and Brakes) didn't put the cap back on after giving me an oil change. Oil went everywhere, and after discovering this, I brought the car back and they hastily cleaned it. When my vehicle started making a clicking sound that night and I went back to the shop, they got aggressive and claimed no fault. I must have dropped something behind my dashboard they said (what?) and I'd need to have the dealer take apart my dashboard. Fast forward a few days later ... Gregg at Honda Acura Specialist is able to instantly assess that my brakes just needed fresh grease (I'm guessing grease was lost during the hasty cleanup by "Fonro"). His people had the rest of oil in the car cleaned up and the brakes greased in less than an hour. Noise gone! And unlike that national shop that scoffed at my hybrid and told me how tricky they are to work on, Gregg easily and happily worked on my vehicle. No hassle. Fair price. His work is top quality and his prices are always very significantly below any dealer. Today, I took in my wife's car that had some loose plastic moulding under the front bumper - I just wanted to know if he could fix it and when. Took my Acura RDX here to get the A/C fixed because it was not blowing cold air. A new A/C compressor had already been installed about a week before, which fixed the problem for a little while but it soon stopped blowing cold air again. They looked over the car, told me the system was fully charged, and quoted me for $700 to completely redo the whole system, including a new A/C compressor. They told me I must have gotten a bad one. I took my car down the road to get a second opinion and the mechanic there said the system wasn't charged and the A/C compressor wasn't plugged in all the way, which was why it wasn't working. He plugged it in, charged the system, and it's been working perfect for over a month. Not sure why they didn't look over the A/C system well enough to find out the compressor wasn't plugged in all the way. Seems like they went straight to the most expensive possible fix for the problem. read more
