I've been using this pharmacy for a while and highly recommend it. The pharmacists seem to genuinely care about their clients' health and wellness and the assistants are consistently helpful and kind. When I need help transferring a prescription to another pharmacy or working with a doctor's office, the HEB pharmacy staff are quick to help and they even call me back immediately to follow up. Rotten Meat. I can't believe at such a beautiful store would do this, but I am a victim and must confess. They sold me rotten hamburger. I saw a package of hamburger that looked so pretty, lean and red. I opened the package to mix it up in my favorite recipe for Greek Hamburgers. When I began kneading it, I saw that the top level was fresh, but HEB had covered over a rotten underlying layer of brownish/grey old out of date meat with fresh meat. I tried to smell if it was rotten but it didnt seem to be, so I kept cooking the recipe. The proof was only evident in the taste. ROTTEN! I spend nearly $1,000 month at that store, love their BBQ and layout. But I am looking for a new place to buy meat now. I can't believe they would jeopardize my $12K a year in revenue, cause if anyone else experiences what I did it could cost them millions at just a single store. AND for what? the Meat Market manager saved a couple bucks on a 2LB pack of hamburger? What idiots. It's what's wrong with America, Penny pinching bean counters putting pressure on service delivery folks to save a single buck, while those actions are costing the company millions in lost customers. I've been so proud of our nice new HEB store! But today's experience was very disappointing. You would think on Friday mornings (I was at the store between 10:30 and 11:00) the shelves would be fully stocked in anticipation of weekend business. But not today. Advertised coupons were not available, the green leaf lettuce was limp, the guy supposed to clean up the blueberry mess on the floor was checking his cell phone instead. The checker rang up the wrong price for produce, was unable to make a coupon work and did not call for help (there were no lines). In short, the place looked picked over and not too clean; the checkout service was poor. HEB, you can do better than this! read more

An associate named Joseph (who was working in produce) helped me out. He was so polite and friendly it really blew me away! This location is a waste of time if you're not in walking distance and it's much more convenient to drive to the now updated Hancock store. Couldn't consider shopping there until a few months after it opened due to the overwhelming lack of handicapped spaces, and when we finally got lucky maybe expected too much. Now that I've been there more than 20 times (never in the afternoon/evening on any day of the week, Saturday/Sunday only before 10am---unless you're ready for a nightmare before you get inside) and spoken with management allowing many months for them to easily correct problems I can write a fair review. HEB corporate executives must be insane to have allowed what should have been a terrific space to be so poorly planned, or maybe they didn't think anyone would go there. Awful staffing, no self check out, rarely has enough stock, the excessively long check out lines. Why not open the cafe in a separate location if you want to get into the restaurant/bar game? Since the Hancock HEB has upgraded it's worth avoiding 51st street Mueller area. Music was okay, but they keep the same harmonica playing band that's okay once but not constantly. Austin has so many singer songwriters it's a shame not to hear something different every time. We get the fact that they're not being paid, but begging for $$$ in the tip jar works better when you haven't heard them play so many times it's more like a radio stuck on one station. The few bands there are okay, but why not have solo acts with variety? Can't they just let us buy deli food and let us eat in peace like most of the other HEB stores? This location is grossly understaffed and it's a job to locate help.....go to a cashier and they'll get someone fairly easy if they don't know the simple answer but be prepared for a 10-15 minute wait for them to get there. Why so many check out registers but no cashiers.....Wal-Mart used to be the worst but this HEB is much worse + their prices aren't lower! We drive by this store to go to the peaceful Allandale store, or the Hancock location. MAYBE if this was open 24 hours it wouldn't be so awful. read more

I wish there were no stars, because thats what they deserve. Horrible managers, employees that steal, and a waste of your time and money. There have been many phones stolen from this specific HEB. Not cheap toss away phones, more on the high end side like the Note Edge, and iPhones. My boyfriend became one of those people that were stolen from this morning. The manager, Mike, who is standing in for the GM, refused to look at the tape, to see who the culprit might be. He was so rude, and unhelpful, it was ridiculous. After talking to AT&T, there appears to be a problem with someone that works in this store, because 6 other people recently have experienced the exact same thing, with the same type of phone. I get not wanting to think of your employees in that light, but if theres that much of a similarity in pattern, and type of phone, theres something obviously going on. DO NOT SHOP HERE!!!! They don't care about their customers, and they don't care about what their employees are doing, only the bottom line. Even the call to corporate resulted in a summary, "We'll call you back," but that is just the nicest possibly way of say that they don't care. I hate to say it, but I won't be shopping at any HEB again. If its ok for your customers to be treated like this regularly, then I won't spend my money in a place like that. read more

Until this HEB opened , I had to go to Walmart or Arlans , I love this H.E.B, , They claim to be a cafe, but there is no breakfast menu. Really? No breakfast at a cafe? They have a great beer selection, and some seriously tasty beers on tap, I had the the in house 12 inch pepperoni pizza , not impressed at all apart from the sauce it looks and tastes like all the other pizzas served at other HEBs, not artisan at all , Oh well , Im proud that is my neighborhood HEB because the architecture is magnificent, beautiful tall edifice, It has a very great feel to it, Im sure they will make improvements as time goes by, Soo glad they opened in my area, so not gonna sweat the small stuff read more

It hurts to write this, but I have to. I was one of the first fifty people in this place on its grand opening morning. It was great! I told friends about it. Now, the opening team is long gone. The present management doesn't have a clue when it comes to inventory control: Items go empty in their facings and, two weeks later, they're still empty! In the old days, when I worked at a grocery store, we walked the aisles, at closing, and marked off empty facings. In the morning, the manager ordered the items. Now, computers do everything, except (at this store) re-order needed items. The manager apparently ignores his morning tear sheets that detail what needs to be ordered. Hopefully, he/she will be replaced, soon, and this store will be great, once again. For me, it's back to Hancock, where needed items can always be found. read more

I drove by this HEB so many times in hopes that it was finally open. I think I may have been far too excited about it and when it actually came time to see it for the first time I was a little disappointed. The building looks great and I love the high ceilings. From the front of the building it looks a lot bigger than it actually is but it's still great. I went to the cafe for lunch and enjoyed the green coconut curry. They were able to customize my order to fit my dietary restrictions and it's definitely something worth checking out. However, I'd skip the bbq section of the menu because there are so many other places in Austin with amazing bbq. This HEB is getting 4 stars from me because I like what they did with the store, there is an amazing wine and beer selection - a huge bakery and cheese shop along with the deli. I'll be back in a couple of weeks when the rush dies down and I can actually find a parking spot in front of the store. read more

Concrete hurts! And it's unpleasant! My hips start to ache walking around and I feel like I'm walking in a big warehouse. I noticed that all of the workers are standing on gel mats. Wow!! I'm so pleasantly surprised to see how disappointed other vegans and vegetarians are about this HEB and that its not just me. There is a large community of us vegans in the 2-3 and I think with all the talk of it being the "greenest" HEB ever, we assumed it would have an amazing health food section, which it lacks tremendously. The "vegan" isle actually made me laugh out loud. I had to walk down the candy and junk food isle to find it, about 10 feet long filled with sub par vegan options, mainly just snack food. My best suggestion would be for the HEB managers at this store, go check out the "health food" section at least at Hancock, because even their health food selection/section is SIGNIFICANTLY better. They at least actually have a health good "section", Oh and i decent bulk section. (The bulk section at this new "green" HEB is a joke!!) The health section at this new location is basically the vitamin/protein powder isle. Such a huge disappointment. The few vegan items they do have, are always always out. Every single time I go, I end up having to leave to go to Hancock or whole foods. I keep going back in hopes that they have read my 10 comment cards and requests for certain items, but still nothing is there. This store would have gotten only 1 star from me, until this week, the manager AJ actually called us regarding our complaint in the vegetarian and vegan options being low and what they do have is always gone. They didn't anticipate such a large vegan vegetarian community and are working on it. He said he will order whatever we needed and listed on the green product requests cards at check out, so everyone fill those out, and maybe even ask for him specifically next time you go and something you need isn't there since he is aware of the problem. The higher the demand the more likely it will change. I was so so excited about this store and was so disappointed that I thought last week was my last visit, until that phone call. So they get another star, to make two total, in hopes they will change for the better. Soon. Not sure where they can reorganize to create an actual health food and decent bulk section, but my fingers are crossed. Otherwise, we are all parting ways with this location. P.s. This is the fanciest HEB I've ever been to. The sheer size combined with the LEED certified construction makes this place look like something out of the future. As with all HEBs, the prices here are reasonable, and the selection is great. The only problem with this place is that when it gets busy, it gets REALLY busy. It seems like most people that shop here tend to shop in great quantities (overflowing carts), so the lines can be very long. If you're not shopping for much, try to stay under the express line limit, although you might be redirected anyways if the situation is pretty bad. I did get a free sample of some chocolate when I was waiting though, so that's pretty cool. Unfortunately, this HEB is a little bit out of the way, and there's a very nice HEB Plus near my work so I don't come here often. It's a great store though and worth the trip if you don't have other options that are quite up to snuff. read more

This HEB is awesome on the weekends. I say that because there a so many yummy treats out for sampling. The beer selection is cool also. Don't forget your Bag cause you'll need it with so many treats. There's a gas station there also which is convenient. read more

I like this store but the wait to check out is horrible long. I do love their chef prepared strawberry honey roasted pecan with coconut salad. Yum Yum. This is a beautiful store, but the last three times I have gone, there have been birds inside! I forgave them the first two times, but on the third I asked to speak to the manager. I asked him what they were going to do about this problem, and he gave me a stupid explanation about they have to be careful not to hurt the birds because people in Austin are very animal-rights conscious. Incredulous, I told him people and their health were the most important animals involved in this situation, and the next time I will post the video of a bird WALKING on the lettuce in the produce section that I witnessed. Maybe that will get some action from management, not just a lame excuse. read more

This review is about the pharmacy. I have chronic pain and it is vital to me that my medications are dispensed properly. My provider purposely wrote a prescription for me that allowed me to refill my prescription early because I had a surgery on my back. I dropped it off late on Thursday...confident that it would be filled. I heard nothing from them. When I called on Saturday morning, they had declined to fill the prescription! ****They did not contact me or my physician to tell me that they had declined****. Apparently my physician had made a mistake on the script. That left me with severe pain for three days, and for a chronic pain patient that is pure hell. read more

I like to find healthy, natural foods and this store has a great selection of these types of foods, and at better prices then Whole Foods. New reconstructed counter offers NO PRIVACY! UNACCEPTABLE, HEB!!!! I have noticed a decrease in Quality service 'vs' quantity svc. HEB is herding customers through like cattle without any thoughts to a person's privacy. Customers are too close. This setup is not a better design than before, it's worse! I'm changing to a smaller pharmacy or mail order. I'm posting again because I told the Technician to cancel my order yesterday for the meds not in stock, again! This is a tough one. The store is spectacular and carries absolutely everything. They have a parking lot the size of a small country, and of course HEB always has some awesome deals with those little yellow coupons. However, this location is EXTREMELY BUSY almost all the time, and each time I've gone, I've spent almost as much time in the checkout line as I have shopping. They also made a really bad first impression with me the first day I went shopping here after moving to the neighborhood. You can just imagine how exhausted I was after spending nearly a week moving, cleaning, unpacking, and getting halfway settled in. But with an empty fridge, I needed to hit HEB for some groceries. Having lived in the Austin area nearly all my life, I'm more than familiar with the plastic bag laws here, but I was surprised to find my groceries being loaded back into my cart sans bags. Yes, my shopping bags were in some yet-to-be-unpacked box in my apartment, but every HEB I've been to (including this one on later visits) has at least offered to let me buy some reusable plastic bags. Instead, I was sent home with a bunch of loose groceries that had to be carried up stairs and across a courtyard to my new apartment. I've since started shopping at a smaller HEB closer to work, and I've never had a problem there with bags or crowds. read more
