Snow crab legs on sale for $4.97 per lb. LIFE IS GOOD!!
    Ada C.

I am a fan of HEB because Here, Everything is Better! heee~ This HEB located near Chinatown is somewhat different from most of the other regular HEB stores because at this location, you may be able to find more Asian veggies, and also, some items in the Produce and Seafood sections have their descriptions written in both English and Chinese! In addition, they carry a lot more "Foreign Products" as their "Foreign" aisles are obviously bigger here! Correct me if I were wrong, this HEB seems more "international" than the other HEB stores! Service is not bad since I never really expect any excellent customer service from places like HEB or Wal-Mart. The staff is usually friendly and helpful. Food items are fresh, and grocery items in great variety! What's the best?? Their snow crab legs and live lobsters on sales! *woots* The only bad thing here is the parking!! The parking lot is huge, but still, there are too many people coming to HEB, and therefore, parking is nine times out of ten difficult and frustrating. *argh*

Herbert's Specialty Meats on Richmond near the Galleria instantly took me back home. The moment you walk in, the number of items from Louisiana is delightful Their boudin, seasonings, and prepared items reminded me so much of my grandmother's gumbo, boudin, and rich, slow-cooked stews--comfort food that warms your soul. You can taste the authenticity and love in everything they make. This is the kind of place that understands balance, spice, and tradition. Customer service was excellent--friendly, patient, and genuinely happy to help you find exactly what you're craving. There are tons of choices, whether you're stocking up for a cookout or just grabbing something to satisfy that Cajun craving. For anyone missing Louisiana flavors or wanting the real deal in Houston, Herbert's is a must-stop. It feels like a little piece of "The Boot"

As winners of the Steak Showdown in Texas in 2023 for the people's choice for best traditional dish and the judges choice for best creative dish, they've garnered a respectable following as a pop-up with Houston foodies on Instagram. Their model for first-come, first-served attracts the curious and past fans of their work. Expect a minimum wait of about 2 hours and pray they don't run out of anything. We made the mistake of dressing moderately warm for the cold temperatures of January, but who would've thought that we'd be seeing 6 inches of snow--and in Houston of all places? Admittngly, the smells waiting in line are absolutely intoxicating. The folks are trying to be as accommodating as possible with how cold it's getting by setting up propane warmers around their setup inside the parking space at PARK BLVD in the Heights, but one can only endure waiting in a crawling line for so long--there can be better process management to attack the demand. It was especially upsetting seeing people jump out of the line just to end up 30 minutes in front of you ordering the last 3 available ribeyes. We ended up getting the LAST tomahawk ribeye that we reserved online the week prior and it was epic..! But talk about stressful... The team also gave us some laotian sausage for standing in line for so long but there's got to be some kind of fail safe in place so that you don't have people waiting hours just to buy up a plate of sides. All the meats should be counted prior and counted as theyre being sold, and maybe limiting 2 entrees per person would help mitigate the amount of empty mouths. Anyway, the food was amazing. I'm definitely coming back on the next pop-up!

Food: 3 Service: 5…read more We came here on a weekday for lunch and the place was bustling with people. I had originally wanted to come because I saw that they sold steaks for purchase you can bring home to cook. However, since it was lunchtime and we were already hungry, we decided to grab some lunch as well. We got the 3 meat combo with chicken, brisket, and ribs. It came with two sides and we chose coleslaw and chicken salad. I thought it was nice they had extra protein choices as sides. They also had a tuna salad and egg salad in addition to pasta salad, beans, potato salad and other options. The food came out quickly and the meats were all very tender. However, they just tasted salty. I had a hard time tasting any other spices/flavors which is what I'm accustomed to at other bbq places. The chicken salad was salty as well. It would've been tastier in a sandwich with some crisp greens versus just by itself. Coleslaw was average. Edible but nothing special. Husband thought it was too sweet. I do have to say the service was very friendly. The worker behind the counter gave us the impression that he really wanted to help and make us comfortable. When I found out they only sold bottled water, he offered to go to the back and grabbed us two cups of tap water, which was a nice gesture because he didn't have to. We ended up not getting any other meats because the unpackaged steaks looked dried out and sad in fridge. I wasn't sure if those were the pieces they would sell you or if they were just for display. But for $34.99/lb, I didn't want to risk them giving me the dried out looking steak. Overall, it seemed like people really like this place . The person in front of my husband said this place has the best burgers! And lots of people kept coming in and out. However, for us, this isn't our favorite.

As a person native born to Houston, but having lived and explored much of the world, one of my favorite things to do is to invite friends to go on a walking tour with me, of the area around the Houston Farmer's Market on Airline. Many years run by the Canino family, as a co-op with local farmers. And when they retired a group of Houstonians, committed to preserving it and making it as nice as possible for shopping. And it's a wonderful place to go shopping for fruits and vegetables and to eat one of the restaurants here. So I usually begin my walking tour with a trip to El Bolillo Bakery to show them the breads and then over to Granel Spices and then to El Rey meat market to show them the chorizo that I like and the freshly made chicharrones and to pointing out the most excellent Mexican restaurant just on the side El Rey. And then heading over to the farmers market proper and showing them the excellent flour tortillas that one can get at Alamo Tamales. A visit to LA Crawfish or other eateries. And also walk and talk about the different uses of the spices and maybe some tropical fruits that people might not be familiar with. It's a great half day and I love taking people around. So definitely plan to visit this area of Airline Drive and have some fun.

If you follow a halal diet and are adventurous in your kitchen at home, then this place is a staple in your repertoire of ingredient sources. For those not in the know, when compared to other stores like HEB or Krogers, Jerusalem is an unorganized mess. The aisles are narrow and the shelves are filled high to the sky. Yes, there are signs letting you know what's generally in the aisles; however, they're more like suggestions. There's a small produce section next to the olive and oil aisle. Yes, a full aisle dedicated to deliciousness. And trust me when I say to peruse the produce section. It's small but has random fruits and veggies like sweet lemon. Yes, that's a thing. No, they don't taste like oranges. The chaotic good continues with aisles that are only open on one end- like their beauty products. An assortment of soaps and lotions towards the front. Head to the back and you think there are going to be more products, but surprise! It's a small prayer hall set up with prayer mats facing Mecca. Then there's a restaurant in the back right corner. Get the chicken shawarma with everything on it, thank me later. The crown jewel of this establishment is the deli in the back. Their meat is delivered three days a week, so you're getting the freshest product sans going to a farm. It's clean and the workers typically fill your order quickly. Bring a sweater, because it's frigid in there. Just outside the deli are a couple of freezers with prepackaged meats that people typically order- think different ground meats, chicken breasts, and the like. They also have products like pepperoni, salami, and bacon. I haven't seen some of these products in the other halal markets in town **major disclaimer** none of the workers on the floor or in the deli are super fluent in English. The guys in the back who butcher the meat understand enough to fill your order, just don't expect a lot of small talk. They even know what cuts you need for certain South Asian dishes like Nihari. Head to the front counter if you can't find something. This is a family owned and operated establishment and they're all great about telling you where everything is and when it'll be in if they're out. If you have some spare time and want to try some new ingredients or aren't sure where to get a certain middle eastern ingredient, try Jerusalem. You never know what will inspire you there.
