My water heater exploded and caused a flood in my basement. I called Moe plumbing and the technician told me to turn off the 2 shutoff valves. That stopped the water flow and he said they would call me the next day, Monday. Well they arrived at 9, ordered the right new water heater and completed installation by 12 noon. I've used Gilmore for my HVAC needs and they've been more or less fine, no major issues with them. Moe Plumbing and Gilmore are apparently under one roof now so I thought to try Moe when I needed a new gas valve and replacement dryer vent hood. Alex was very polite and attentive, and we've had no issues with his workmanship. However, there were a number of problems I wasn't happy about. 1) The operator had quoted us one pricing structure over the phone but the pricing structure I received in person was different and more expensive. Red flag there. 2) I was charged $90 for a single gas valve. This didn't sound right and I brought it up with Alex. His response was, "It's brass!". After the work was done, I went back and did some research. It turns out comparable brass valves shouldn't cost more than $15 (about half that when purchased in quantity). They gouged me with at least a 500% markup over the going market rate. Once I discovered this, I called to complain about the practice and that it harms building any kind of trust with them. The secretary promised to pass my information to the owner, who would call me back. I never received any followup. 3) I wanted to investigate the cost of having automatic solenoids installed for my sprinkler system. I spent time with Alex going over the various things that needed to be automated so he could build an estimate on the project. He billed me for the time discussing a possible future project, which was disappointing. Worse, 20 days have gone by and I never received the promised estimate. I appreciate that the work I did receive was done well. I didn't appreciate the inconsistent pricing structure, the gouging on the gas valve, the failure to respond to my complaint, getting billed for time to discuss an estimate for future work, and then never actually receiving the promised estimate. I hope they enjoy the extra money they made gouging me, because next time I'm looking elsewhere for plumbing service providers I can trust. Now I have to wonder if I shouldn't drop their HVAC services as well. read more

They were referred to us by a good friend. Our experience was absolutely insane with them. We were on the phone and promises were made, never kept or followed through. We wasted a month with them and never got a decent answer. Only very poor excuses. IF YOU HIRE THEM, WE WISH YOU GOOD LUCK. There are many other companies that have good ratings. If I could give zero stars, I would. I have a condo, and I sit on the Board of that condo building. The building had used John Keefe Plumbing for years before Moe Plumbing acquired it and has used Moe Plumbing on occasion since. A few years ago, I had John Keefe Plumbing (later acquired by Moe Plumbing) replace a faucet for me in a bathroom, and it took an hour. When I needed another faucet replaced this year (same old faucet, same new faucet, different bathroom but with the same setup), Moe Plumbing came out and charged me 4.5 hours for the same work. 4.5 hours! For something that had previously taken 1 hour! I took issue with the bill, there was some back and forth over a period of months, and they discounted it a bit - but not nearly as much as they should have. I still feel like they took major advantage of me. We have instructed my Board of Directors and our management company to look elsewhere for our plumbing needs. I just had Moe Plumbing install a hot water heater on demand, and their Rep. Jeff Hachey quoted me a $1000 rebate for the model he was recommending. Now I KNOW I Paid too much for the service, because there is NO REBATE for the model they installed. Shame on him for relying on his rep to tell him there was a rebate. There is NONE! Moe Plumbing did a good job on fixing my toilet, but shame on them for lacking in admin skills. I gave them my credit card in June. Months later they called claiming I didn't pay, even though I submitted payment on the day of service. Checked my bank & Moe did not process payment. Not my fault. So, they sent me a bill which I agreed to pay...and they slapped me with a "Late Payment" & penalty fee! had them come out for an estimate 129 fee and they spent 5 minutes - took a week to get an estimate, while we received 2 emails for the 129 fee invoice. subsequently had another company, with no fee come out and give an estimate of 1/4 of MOE, Reached out to Carlin but he stated the service guy was here for 40 minutes, which is not the case. The scheduling was fast, they scheduled me for the next morning. The service technician, Skip, was fantastic. He arrived ahead of the scheduled time. His work was done quickly and correctly. Too bad I never got a chance to work with this company to see if they even do a good job. I'm leaving this review mostly to reflect on the quality of interaction between business and customer, which always reveals something about the DNA of a company. Moe Plumbing may indeed be a great service provider, but they cancelled my initial appointment twice because of their estimator's schedule problems and personal issues. Now, I'm all in favor of a company paying attention to their employees welfare. But in this case, it cost them a potential job and a big one (I have a broken sewer line which will cost me thousands of dollars to repair, so a good payday for them potentially). So when the scheduler was having trouble finding a date for the third appointment, and I suggested that she try to move someone else around to accommodate me after two cancellations, she pushed back, if politely, with some excuse about the estimator's schedule being unpredictable. And here's the test. When I suggested that maybe I should find another provider, instead of redoubling her effort to accommodate me, she immediately relented and was absolutely willing to let me go. Wow. Does her boss know that she is willing to throw business away like that? I don't know about you, but if I am trying to sign up a new customer, I go out of my way to make a good first impression. They really couldn't juggle the schedule or send someone else out to fill in? I hope Moe Plumbing has such a backlog of work that they don't need my business. Our previous contractor skipped town after completing 90% of work. We had some issue with a shower lacking water pressure. I was recommended to call MOE for help and Tom Dougherty came to the rescue. Not only did Tom showed up on time, he was most knowledgeable with Kohler products and fixed the low water pressure issue in no time. Jason - tech showed up, as we explained the situation and advise the city turned the water off he started to become annoyed and his annoyance became RUDE and condescending, in addition to his attitude and lack of good customer service skills, he started writing the work order stating HE shut off the water (when he didn't!) I asked him to removed it from the order and his attitude got worse! He was asked to leave from our premises. THEN, I called the main office to officially make a complain, and my complain received with no importance. Either they are used to customer calling and complaining about their service or they simply don't CARE!! I have used Moe Plumbing for several years. I have always been pleased with their service. Most recently, I needed to have a Porcher toilet repaired. The challenge was identifying the problem and finding the parts. It may have been easier to just replace the toilet, but Tom (the plumber) was up to the task. Not only did he identify the problem, he also took the time to explain it to me. The day of the toilet repair, the faucet it my bathroom failed. I asked Tom if he would replace the faucet with a new set I had already purchased. Although he was pressed for time, he did a great job. In the past, other plumbers shied away out of concern they might break the tile. Although it was a lot of work, Tom made it look effortless. Tom is the best- skilled, professional, pleasant, and very knowledgeable. Best of all, he takes the time to make sure I understand. Couldn't be more pleased. Thank you! read more

I would give this company a "0" rating if I could. My sink backed up and they sent up a man who put in new fixtures, but didn't recognize that the main plumbing line was stopped up. He took close to SEVEN hours to put in two faucets and didn't know how to unplug the line. It was working in the morning before he came up here, and by the time he left I had two sinks full of BLACK water that would not go down. Stay away from this company. Worst office staff. Plumbers may be ok but everything is a huge mix up from appointments to filing paperwork with city to billing. In Santa Monica, the city asks us to test the Backflow system every year or two. 1. The day of our appointment the plumber was late, I called office to find out when would he show up. Office said I didn't have an appointment....then the plumber showed up 5 mins later. 2. The city contacted us about some problem with paperwork. I called Jenna at Moe's. She said the paperwork was filed but said that it showed the test had failed, but they didn't notice that and never contacted us. 3. DO NOT TRUST THESE GUYS. GET A SECOND OPINION BEFORE YOU AUTHORIZE ANY WORK!!!!- THEY CHARGED A $99. FEE FOR TRYING TO RIP OFF MY DAD WHOM IS IN HIS EIGHTIES; AND I CAUGHT THEM AND CANCELLED THE WORK ORDER BEFORE THEY WERE !!!! SUCCESSFUL. My dad, a senior citizen called them out cause his floor heater quit. They came out and went under the house and stated "...there are many old parts that need replacing..." and suggested he buy a new unit at $3500. My dad trusting their word agreed and gave the technician a check for $350. With not the greatest memory my dad had forgotten I had the same unit worked on a year before. All parts replaced. So I called Moes up to cancel the job. I called the prior technician back who fixed it a year ago and he agreed to come take a look at it, and advised me $3500 is too much...he was there the next morning and fixed the problem with new parts for a few hundred dollars. When I tried to get the deposit back Moes tried telling me I had to pay a reatocking fee for parts. I argued and eventually got my deposit returned. Yet they still charged my dad a $99. Service call. I hired MOE to do the required yearly back-flow device inspection at my business. It was a newly constructed business with totally new plumbing. They did not submit the results to the city, as required. I got a letter from the city 2 months later, fining my business $25,000 for failure to comply with the city codes. MOEs excuse was to blame their employee, and me for not checking on their work for them. Also, they found one of my new backflow devices to be worn out. I requested the replaced parts but they never gave them to me. Suspicious, especially since the other one has lasted 5 years now. $300 for that. read more

Early on a Saturday morning, the plaster ceiling in the living room in our historic house fell with a crash. We called Moe plumbing whom we had used numerous times. Russell was sent out ( and overtime pay) and proceeded to diagnose the problem as a leaky ring around the toilet base in the upstairs bathroom. $800+later,he left and I noticed the ceiling was still dripping water. I called Moe and informed them and was told it was j" residual water." HA! Three days later, the was was much more tha a drip and had worsened the ceiling to a dangerous state. In spite of my pleas and explanation, I ws told I couldn't have a plumber until three days later between 11-2. Fortunately, the mitigation people working on the project suggested I call another plumber, who came imediately and spotted the problem as a leaky pipe and fixed in less than half an hour. Because of the incompetence and refusal to address the problem, damage was increased to an significant extent. I will never use this plumber again. An irrigation pipe broke over the weekend. The plumber sent didn't have a clue about what he was doing. Ultimately he made the problem worse and I was left without any water (house or irrigation). On Monday I called my usual reputable landscaping/irrigation company. The irrigation company spent more time (2 days) fixing the issues the Moe plumber created than they did fixing the broken irrigation pipe. Don't use this company. read more

Moe plumbing recently provided service for me when it was raining heavily last week. There were issues with my water heater and they came within 3 hours. The tech was really knowledgeable and walked me through everything he was going to do. They fixed the problem and gave me tips on how to prevent this from happening again.
