This is by far the best place in the Houston area for hot pot. The service here is impeccable. They literally have thought of everything to make sure the experience is great, from aprons to hair ties! For the kids, they have a complimentary kids meal and toys for them. The broths were flavorful (especially the tomato and mushroom are my favorite, the spicy and pork are more to have at the beginning), and everything from the meats to the veggies was super fresh and well-prepped. THE BIG: Located in Katy (right outside of houston), which I hear is the new chinatown of Houston. Modern touches with the fancy service that is mimicked from mainland China. THE BLACK AND WHITE: My first experience with haidilao was in Beijing. My friend who picked me up from the airport at midnight, took me to Haidilao, which was open 24/7 there and that was an amazing experience. Fast forward to today, same experience and high quality food. The crew and I opted for the AYCE sauce bar and ordered 3 helpings of the meat menu. We also got a noodle dance, which a noodle ninja came out blasting chinese EDM and danced the noodles to perfection. 10/10 would definitely order the noodle dance again. As for amenities, the bathrooms are clean and offer mouth wash and hair spray! THE FINAL BAMBOO: Overall damage done for a 4 split broth with 3 meat menus, split between 8 people came out to be ~$30. I have heard so much about this place and had to try it when I got the chance. Definitely not a cheap place for hot pot. It's the first hot pot place I have tried where they charge per dish. First when you come in, I love that they give each guest an apron even the little ones. They give you bags for your phones and other personal items, so they stay clean. They will give you scrunchies to tie your hair back if your hair is long like mine. They also give your babies/toddlers booster seat that comes with a tray. They also offered kid meal for my little one at free of charge but I saw another comment before me saying kids meal is $7, can't remember if I was being charged for it or it was actually free. I would double check if you go. The food was actually just okay. People have been hyping it up and probably because of the experience. They have some basic soup bases that you would see at other hot pot places and a few different ones. I get my usual of tomato soup base. Some of the dishes' portion were a little disappointing. I expected more since I had to pay for each dish, so we ended up having to order a lot to be enough for 4 adults. They didn't have anything that other hot pot places wouldn't have. One of my favorite hotpot places. My brother and his son came down from California so we took them here. You basically order from an iPad and the robot delivered to your table. Do not take anything from the robot because a server will take it off the robot and place it on your table. This is not your typical all you can eat hotpot where you go to a food station and grab your own protein and veggies to add to the pot. You are charged everything individually. Sauce doesn't come with the hotpot so you have to order that separately also. The sauce station has a poster of how to make different sauces for proteins. I usually follow what they recommended but also add things to it to make it spicy. My to go broth is the Tom Yum and whatever other broth the person I'm with wants. We had our two little nephews with us so we ordered the kids menu. A cute pig red bean paste bao, nuggets, fresh fruits and Yakult drink. This was greatly because of our server Kris, and his trainer. Since this was our first time eating hot pot, we had many questions about the menu and protocol. A really great hot pot dining experience in Katy! We came on a Friday night and had a reservation for 4. We had Allyson as our waitress and she was really thorough and explained everything since it was our first time visiting. We were provided with plastic bags for our phones/masks, a lens cleaning wipe, and hair ties for the ladies. We started off the experience by ordering all of our a la carte items through an iPad. We opted for the 4 broths-tomato, Tom yum, pork, and the classic spicy soup base. We ordered one combo per Allyson's recommendation since it comes with a large tray of veggies and then we ordered the rest of the meat a la carte. This was a great idea since it was a big tray of veggies and it avoided any unnecessary waste. We went with the boneless short rib combo. For the a la carte options, we ordered more boneless short rib, rib eye, and the fish tofu which was delicious!!! Would highly recommend the fish tofu! Once we ordered the food, we made a visit to the sauce bar which had plenty of options to choose from. Per my sister's recommendation, I made a sesame sauce with chili oil, ginger and green onions and it helped cut the spiciness of the broth but also had good flavor. All of our food came out on a robot which was pretty cool. Once we started cooking the food, we had placed an order of dancing noodles so we had a little bit of a show as well which was fun and added to the experience. Dinner was delicious but the add ons can become costly. It's as though you're paying for the technology but honestly, it's worth it because the employees were all so welcoming. The server then came to offer back support pillows, hair ties, aprons, toys for the kids, and even shawls for those who are cold. There was even a wireless charger built within the table. Um, I'm sorry, what?! Yep, you read it correctly. They basically want you to be comfortable while dining. Everything came out fairly quick, either by actual human delivery or by a robot that came directly to your table. Neat and modern technology concept. Our favorite broth was the tom yum, not really spicy but flavorful. The pork broth was actually a little bland, and the mushroom broth was ok. The proteins and vegetables were nicely presented. We also ordered the dancing noodles, where someone came and did hand pulled noodles tableside. They played music from a colorful speaker and had a little noodles pulling entertainment before cutting them into the broth. It was neat to watch but by the time he came to our table, it was close to closing time, so he was really quick with the performance compared to what we saw presented for other tables. For a two person meal, our meal came up to $150 plus tip. They didn't tell us either how it works before the seat us. It's a bit disappointing. I've been to other hotspot and this is the only place I've been to where it's not disclosed that it's ayaw. Hot pot is meant to be enjoyed in the winter. But when you hear that China's most famous hotpot chain has chosen Houston for its next location, you ignore the 100+ degree Texas heat and haul ass for some scalding hot soup. I usually don't expect much from large chain restaurants trying to enter the Houston food scene. Quality of the food and service are never anywhere on par with the original establishment. Haidilao is probably one of the first chain restaurants to arrive in Houston that completely and utterly obliterated my dull expectations. The decor was breathtaking. Huge spacious booths and tall ceilings fitted with a timeless modernized design. Lights were bright, but the place still gave off an elegant fine dining atmosphere, more classy than most dimly lit pricey American steakhouses I've been to. For a split moment I forgot I was still in the US. Service was splendid, especially since they provide you with aprons, gloves, hair ties, and even ziplock bags for your phones/masks. 7 or 8 soup flavors is more than I've ever had to choose from at a hotpot restaurant. But what was even more appealing was the fact that you can choose up to 4 flavors, served in a giant pot that is sectioned off into 4 squares. My favorite was tomato, which was creamy and a bit tang, but not nearly as sour as the Tom Yum. Selection of food wasn't as grand as I thought it might be, but the quality was not lacking in the slightest. All the veggies and meat were fresh as can be. Kobe beef was genuinely well marbled, a good portion for the price, and sliced impossibly thin. Plum juice was finally available during my second visit, which was great since my stomach always has trouble digesting after hot pot (probably because I overeat lol). FAVORITE part of the restaurant hands down is the sauce bar. I normally feel repulsed when a hotpot restaurant charges you extra to use the sauce bar. But when you stack your sauce bar with appetizers, 10+ different kind of sauces, and multiple toppings to mix with, I'm not going to complain. Especially when they serve a unique beef sauce and mushroom sauce so insanely flavorful and addicting. This isn't something you can just swipe a bottle of at an Asian supermarket. P.S. Since it was our first time, our server explain the menu and options to choose from. Everything you order will be from the iPad at your dining table. We opted the 4 broths which is a rough $20ish dollar already. Classic Spicy - I did not try (my husband chose this bc he really like spicy broth) Spicy Pork Bone - Just ok, not spicy Thai Tom Yum - My favorite, very flavorful Mushroom Soup - Bland IMO, but this was my husband's favorite since it was simple We ordered the double combo meat which came with some seafood and protein and veggie plate. $39 Extra items we ordered - Extra veggies, Kobe Beef & hot pot noodles (not dancing noodles) Hot pot noodles - $3 Kobe Beef - $17 Crown Daisy - $5 Chinese Cabbage - $5 Husband opted the sauce bar which is an extra $2, it also includes access to fruit bar. Have you ever wanted to meet a robot waiter? This is the place to be for your "sci-fi meets cute Japanese machine" needs! Cute robots serve your plates to you and THEY EVEN HAVE CUTE FACES with a bonus robot voice. I've been wanting to try out this hot pot restaurant since its grand opening! My favorite boba shop, The Alley, is near here so I frequently pass by and I see the groups of people waiting for a table outside of this restaurant. Let me tell you that it's worth the hype! We were seated immediately for 2 people since there was a couple that cancelled their reservation at the exact same time that we put our name down. (**The wait would've been 1.5 hours long on a Saturday night so I suggest calling ahead!!) I gave this place 4 stars only because our waitress didn't tell us anything about the meats or how to "do hot pot". It was our first time to eat at a hot pot restaurant, so we were really clueless. We would ask her for help and she would ignore us or give us a very vague answer. It wasn't nice of her to assume that we knew what we were doing just because I'm Asian. We even told her that it was our first time there and she wasn't much help. We do remember that her name was Wendy, though, because we kept trying to call her name to help us but she ignored us so we ended up teaching ourselves how to navigate the menu, cook the food, and learn from trial and error. It's a good thing that my friend and I were both willing to learn new things and we tried to make the best out of our situation. The menu is located all on the iPad. You order your soup broth first and then the menu takes you step-by-step through various options for veggies, protein, appetizers, etc. We ordered half and half broth for 2 people... Don't get water (like I did) because it doesn't add any seasoning to the food and it's free for a reason because it sucks. Thankfully, my friend got the chicken soup base and it was a perfect pairing to our meats!! One of my highlights was the dancing noodle performance. The guy really dances with the noodles and it was my first time seeing such noodle art. It was very entertaining and fun!! My favorite part of the entire night, though, wasn't the food or the robot server. It was stepping inside of the women's restroom. I felt like I traveled back to Japan!!!! The hospitality and friendly reminder to take all of your belongings truly felt nostalgic. The restroom was super clean and there's miscellaneous women necessities available to use (toothpicks, hairspray, lotion, cotton pads, sanitary tampons and pads, and other things). This is definitely a premier hot pot experience. The restaurant is beautiful, service is super attentive, and there are some unique features, although certain things were definitely a bit too extra. When you sit down, your server provides everyone with an apron and a baggie for your phone, hair ties for the women, and eyeglass cleaner for anyone who wears glasses. The bathroom is also the most well-equipped bathroom I've ever seen in a restaurant - they have toothbrushes and toothpaste, cotton swabs, lotion, mouthwash, etc.. For the actual hot pot, you can get up to 4 different soup bases. We opted for 2 - the pork bone soup base and the spicy pork soup base - both of which were delicious. Everything is ordered a la carte so it's definitely pricier than other hot pot places that have AYCE. A couple highlights: the robot server that brings you the dishes you ordered is pretty cool. We also ordered the Dancing Noodle and the dancing noodle guy was there that day so we got some entertainment with our food. Overall a good experience although purely based on the food, not sure if it's worth the price tag. This place has really good service and tons of little gimmicks that get you to the door. The free hair ties, the aprons you can borrow, and cute toys and trinkets. The cute ambiance draws you in. Besides that there's nothing too special that really would want to keep you in. I filmed content for my foodie instagram and I was glad to see that I wasn't the only who felt that way. The food was fresh, but there wasn't much else to it. Their sauce bar was small. The prices were more than any other hotpot restaurant I've been to. I've never been to a hotpot restaurant that charges you for your broth (unless you change the flavor and it's usually an up charge of $1). Which I found ridiculous. Also the golden broth was rich, but lacked a bit of flavor. The meat prices were decent, but the shrimp price was laughable. I believe it was 8 shrimp for $13 or something like that. This place is gorgeous, and the staff here are super friendly. You pay for the "fancy" additions and "free" goodies. It's a cute spot to come with a friend and sit back and catch up. We love this place, and there is a reason why the wait can be long. First off, when you get to your table, you get a plastic bag to put your phones in, so you don't get your dirty fingers on it. You also get an apron just in case you are a slob. Most parties get one burner, but it could be split two or four ways if you want (to try different soup bases). There were a lot of choices on the menu, and the portions were not too big like other places. After you place your order with the staff, your food comes out on a robot. It's smart enough to not bump into anyone on the way and smiles when it leaves. The "dancing noodle" was good (a little chewy for me), but it was all about the show. I've been to Haidilao several times in China and was blown away by the experience and the service - and the food was always delicious. I haven't been to any other US locations, so I was curious how the service would translate. While they did scale down the extent of the services: no lobby/waiting room with free manicures/shoe shining/photo print and servers coming with snack refills, bathroom attendants to hand you drying towels...the spirit is present with free bagged snacks on the outdoor patio waiting area, hair ties for long hair, plastic bags to keep your face mask splatter-free, freshly laundered aprons to protect your clothes, toothbrushes and other amenities in the bathroom, a wireless charging spot on the table for you to charge your phone. This restaurant is also not Walmart-sized like in China, which contributes to the difficulty in acquiring a reservation. It is currently reservation only, and you can make the reservation online. It looks like they recently opened up lunch service. The service is great with the wait staff constantly clearing away empty dishes, refilling drinks, bringing fresh plates. When you walk in, you'll get a tablet and you can choose the 1, 2, or 4 broth pot. Tap through and select your meats, veggies, and sides. If you don't come close to when the kitchen closes, I recommend ordering as you go. Unfortunately, both times I've gone so far have been among the last seating so I didn't have that luxury and ordered too many combos - which are great, but we had a lot of veggies and would have liked more meats. If I were to redo, I would order more a la carte meats. We got the pineapple juice which was very freshly made and - a bit frothy on top though. There are two bars with watermelon, pineapple, seaweed salad, sauces, dessert soups. It does cost ~$2/person for access (pricing was on the tablet), but it effectively all-you-can-eat. They ask you to wear plastic gloves, but enforcement and informing the guests was iffy. Perhaps because my reservations were always around closing, the bars were thoroughly picked over and not really being refilled. The first time I ordered the dancing noodles, there was no performance but the noodle dish came. The second time, they forgot about it even though I asked the server twice...so I just had it removed from my bill. The meals have come out to ~$35-50/person after tax & tip from my two visits so far. It is a premium price, especially compared to all-you-can-eat hot pot restaurants. The ingredients are high-quality, the experience is fun, the atmosphere and newness of the restaurants are a novelty - I'd come for special celebrations. The staff do refill your soups as they run low. They are able to bag up the leftover uncooked foods and soups for you, and they take care to bag over the soup containers to prevent spillage. There's a cute robot that will cart your food over. It requires the servers to unload the food onto the table and then push the button for the robot to leave. It's not very practical or efficient, but we all LOVED the robot. On another note, there are a lot of birthday celebrations and all the employees will join in the singings. Parking is easy in Katy Asia Town. What I'd like to see improve: introducing guests to the waiting lounge and welcoming them to help themselves to the snacks, restocking the sauce bars even around closing, getting the dancing noodle performance, being prompted when going to the sauce bar that it's $2/person (it was a surprise the first time), enforcing the gloves at the sauce bar or dropping the rule if it won't be. read more

First of all, there is a wait list on yelp however, the waitlist is not really what it is from our experience. When we got there during the estimated and suggested check in time, we were told that we would have to wait an additional hour. Basically the wait list is a wait list to check it. I'm not really sure what was the point of that. However, since we came all that way, we did decide to wait. This place is pretty cool. They gave my kid a toy want that he really enjoyed and there's also wireless chargers on the table. Each table has an iPad and you kind of scared to order whatever and you first choose your broth and you can pick up to 4. I highly suggest getting the tom yum, because that was the best one in my opinion. The spicy one is really spicy. It is more of a Szechuan spicy. We also got the meso for those who are starting hot pot, and the pork bone, which wasn't anything special but it was good. For us we got the ribeye and the beef brisket in the flat iron. However, they said there was a wait list for the meat so we pretty much have to wait like an hour to get our meat. We did get our veggies and our fish balls and our noodles pretty immediately it came on that traditional robot, which was a pretty cool experience. My roomie and I wanted to celebrate Thanksgiving together (a week later than actual Thanksgiving) and the weather was just rainy and wet enough to get something hot and cozy. We live close to Katy asia town and wanted hot pot so we opted for Haidilao and it did not disappoint. I've heard famous things about this place from my little sister but knew from entering that this was about to be an experience. The servers were prompt and accommodating from the moment you come in to every other moment on your hot pot adventure. Our server constantly waited on us for everything--pouring drinks, removing any empty plates, always checking in to see if we're okay. The food selection was also plentiful and unique considering this is Chinese Hot Pot so there were other menu items I had never seen at a hotpot location before. We got pumpkin mochi, pork belly, tofu, shrimp and duck egg balls, a spicy pork kimchee broth, vegetables, spring rolls, and I even got a coconut matcha drink. It was a LOT of food and we spent about $120 on our choices. Bougie hot pot--but worth every bite. This is by far the most kid friendly restaurant I have ever been to. They do so well with the kids that you can't even tell the other tables have kids because they're so quiet, distracted with all of the things the restaurants willing to provide for child satisfaction. I can't say enough good things about it. The experience was really fun; we really liked watching the dancing noodle presentation. They provide free kids meals that are adorable. I posted a picture of that here we got the spicy soup - which is really spicy the spicy soup was so good but too hot for me the Tom kha was amazing. The customer service, and the attentiveness is above any I've ever had at a restaurant. I can't wait to come back! read more
