This is probably one of the best hot pot places I've been. Yes, it is definitely on the pricier end, but the broth and quality of items you can get here is unbeatable. We got the dual pot with the Tao lo beef and the pork bone broth which is pretty typical. However, the pork bone broth was one of the most flavorful broths I've ever had and I ended up just scooping some like soup. This place always seem to look so busy. From the moment it open and on a random day of the week, it's always packed! I been wanting to try this place for so long but because I live an hour away, I didn't have much chances to go to Katy unless I'm visiting a friend or two I have here. First off, I would like to say that the restaurant feels super clean and compact (reminding me of china almost), service was speedy and friendly and the decor were minimalistic and modern. My husband and I came here with another couple and they been here (lots of times before) so we let them take the reigns in ordering. Everything that they ordered was delicious. I was actually loving that we can split the pot 4 ways. I'm used to seeing two or sometimes 3. I love flavor so I'm glad I can try multiple broths. The broths were flavorful and authentic. All the meats, veggies and seafood added to the broth were a delicious touch. My husband Shye and I are most stunned about their non hotpot menu items such as their garlic bread. Oh my lord was it undeniably delicious for a HOTPOT PLACE. if you're skeptical of ordering non hotpot things here, don't. It was actually really nice. 4.5 stars out of 5 truly. Okay so about the only bad thing from here is that people kept ignoring the Dancing Noodles guy once he's actually dancing, but if he's looking for a union to join then now is a pretty good time to do it. That, and the dessert. But aside from potentially disheartening working environments, Haidilao is pretty great, from the beef to the broths to the free hair tie they give you. The Haidilao in Saigon had free pedicures, or so I heard. Anyway, Before any of the meats even came, what impressed me the most about Haidilao is the quality of its sauce counter. Normally, this is mostly an afterthought filled with almost-expired condiments, but you can make legit appetizers and side dishes out of Haidilao's "sauces", particularly with things like minced beef and fresh-ish seaweed salad on offer. The desserts are also situated in the same spot, but I found them quite tasteless. Egregious, even. My friends seemed to enjoy them though, so maybe I just did something wrong somehow someway. Onto the broth, Haidilao is also rather unique is that it allows you to have anywhere from one to four broths in your pot, whereas most other hot pot places just have singular broth and half-and-half. All of the broths we had (tomato soup, pork bone, tomyum and chicken-bone-and-pork-stomach) were quite good too, but our favorite was the tomato soup. Most of the broths also had quite munchable ingredients in case you're hungry and didn't order enough meat, particularly the pork stomach. Regardless, the meats are still the star of the show. Every meat we had was super fresh, tender and flavorful. The flank steak however is perhaps too flavorful for some, as my friends considered it pungent, but I did enjoy the strong beef flavor we got from it a lot. The black tripe is also delicious crunchy, and looked great under the restaurant's quite photo-friendly lighting! My only qualm was that the rocket squid was literally just squid cut to look like a rocket. We expected something different but oh well. Oh and yes, how can I forget the salted-egg-yolk shrimp balls?! The salted egg yolks in them are LEGIT! Grab some right now you won't regret it. We had like 3 separate trays of the thing. If pig brain is edible to you, you'll find Haidilao's delicious too. It takes some time to boil, but it does come in its own canister and tasted quite creamy without any of the smell. And finally, the Haidilao beef didn't really get softer with time like it's supposed to, but tasted quite nice nonetheless. A little bit of a tangy marinade with notes of tomatoes, shrimp paste, and egg yolks. I have no idea what I'm saying anymore. TL;DR Great hot pot. Dinner and a show. Everything was so good from the food to the service. Came on a Saturday evening with little to no wait. First I want to thank Khang for his excellent service! I had never had hot pot before, and he helped me and my family throughout our dinner - from ordering through sauces through cooking to packaging our remaining broth to take home. The tom yum broth was especially delicious for me, very reminiscent of Thai flavors as I would expect, but my family seemed to prefer the spicy pork broth. Both complemented our additions beautifully (beef, chicken, meatballs, dumplings, enoki, and bok choy). We had a wonderful time and came away very happy and satisfied! And the restaurant itself was bright, clean, and cheerful, especially the very attentive servers and the adorable service robot. Again let me say this was our first time, which we told both the host and Khang when we came in - and Khang offered me a hair tie for my long hair, an apron (I am rather clumsy, which he couldn't know, but I appreciated it!), and even little baggies for our phones in the event that we wanted to post an Instagram from our table (which I didn't because I'm outside that demographic!). I've frequented here since they opened business at Katy. Great service, great food, and always that authentic Chinese feel owing to the music and the face changing performance. I always go around 7:30 when the performance starts. Love their snacks, cold dishes, varieties of soups and fruits! It's the first restaurant that I had witnessed robots serving dishes, just like in China. Remember you have to check in even after you are waitlisted unless you made a reservation one day prior. Truly a wonderful experience from start to finish! If you enjoy great food and great service this is the place for you. The restaurant itself is quite busy so it may be a good idea to go on Yelp and join the waitlist ahead of time if you plan on coming on a Saturday night. Reading other reviews, I would agree that the price point is much steeper than most hot pot places in Houston but just based off the quality of food, cleanliness of the restaurant and immaculate customer service it is truly worth it! I recommend ordering as you go so that you don't over do it. I was even brought a scrunchie to tie up my hair before they brought out the broths - a great little gesture might I add since I forgot my hair clip. My favorite broth from the ones we ordered had to be the Tom Yum broth. It was super flavorful, savory and had the perfect amount of heat. The staff was extremely pleasant and I appreciated the recommendations they gave us as first time diners. The veggies and meat was all top quality it was apparent from the look and taste. IMO the cocktails were delicious but a little too expensive so I would probably skip that next time. they have a rewards program too so make sure to sign up for that and earn points towards discounts off future meals. Literally at one point I noticed some dried mud on my leg because we had just come back from the renaissance festival on a rainy day and asked for a wet wipe and the girl came over with napkins & rubbing alcohol and insisted on helping me scrub it off. They also have bibs and hair ties for you as needed. You can get a lil goodie bag on your bday & if it's your first time they tell the servers to take extra care of you and explain things clearly. If you order Dancing noodles it is an experience where they'll come and dance while making hand pulled noodles before your eyes. Fun to experience once but the noodles tasted kinda mid. I will say pricing is on the steeper end of hot pot but they do try to go above and beyond normal hot pot places. You can also mix and match and choose up to 4 diff broths. Their broth selection is also bigger than average. Their meats are fresh and marbly and they give you hella veggies if you order them. Like bigger than avg portions for you to get your greens in. Sauce bar is $2 but you get access to fruit and sweets too. Good place for celebratory dinner. Be careful w. This China based hot pot is a welcome addition to the Houston food scene over the past couple of years, even though it is quite a drive for the people living in the city. That said, it is every bit worth the drive! Service here is phenomenon. The staff provide you aprons, hair-ties and phone bags to protect yourself while you feast and the bathroom provides every necessity you can think of after eating some hot pot. The ordering process is very convenient as well. You can place your order via the tablet, which has chinese and english menus with pictures. What can I say about haidilao that hasn't already been said? I also don't know what I can say to accurately state how much I loved my experience at haidilao lol. Ok first, they gave me a hair tie for my hair. I have long hair, past my waist, and I had a clip in half up half down so I didn't think my hair would get in the way. But they offered me one without prompting, and that little gesture/amenity blew me away. I did end up using it and I'm v glad they gave me one bc I didn't bring one w me. Second, why are the bathrooms amazing?????? Third, love the aprons. Reminds me of restaurants in Korea. Like, the level of service provided really reminded me of being in east Asia. It was amazing. Haidilao is definitely a top knotch hot pot spot in terms of service and quality. During our first visit, the server explained how to order using the iPad they provide, and recommended we submit our broth order first while we decide on meats/seafood/veggies since the broth takes a while to come to a boil. I like that you can choose up to four different broths, and that they have a good mix of spicy and non spicy options. There's also a wide variety of meats, veggies, dumplings, tofu, noodles, and seafood that you can pick from, and combos that you can order which come with both protein and veggies. If you want a special experience, I'd recommend ordering the dancing noodles for a unique show. Prior to your meal, the staff will usually hand out hair ties for those with long hair, aprons, plastic bags for your phone/mask, and lens wipes for your glasses so that you can stay clean in the event if a broth splash. Compared to other hot pot spots, the broth here is really flavorful, and one that I actually enjoy sipping on throughout my meal. At the end of your meal, if you don't finish the broth and would like to take it home, the staff will offer Togo containers for you to take home the leftover broth. We usually take this home, and repurpose it into another meal for the next day by adding frozen dumplings to make a dumpling soup or some eggs in it to make it into an egg drop soup. When we left, the weather started pouring, and the hostess was nice enough to let us borrow an umbrella, and walk us to our car so that we didn't have to walk back to return the umbrella! My girlfriend and I loved the spicy broths. The meats were definitely a step above than the usual AYCE hotpot places. It is a little pricier but I don't mind paying a little more for service and an experience. I like that you can choose 4 different soup bases and they range from traditional to unique. With two people you can each claim your own broths without worrying about double dipping. - Tomato 5/5: my favorite! So wonderfully savory - I could drink this all day - Green pepper 4/5: Surprisingly good flavor but with the peppercorn, your mouth is quickly numb, which kind of ruins the rest of the experience to me. Just not a big fan of peppercorn. - Tom yum 3/5: Sour-ish flavor. Food cooked in this broth tasted pretty good though. - Pork bone 5/5: Solid pork bone with the usual add-ins. Food cooked in this one will probably need some sauce. Now something I have not seen before is a $2 up charge to access the sauce, sides, and dessert bar. Warning that the dessert bar is not Western style with cakes and ice cream. This is traditional Asian congee type desserts that are very lightly sweetened. If you choose the more savory/spicy broths, you probably don't need the sauce bar. The sides are nothing to write home about (edamame, sliced cucumbers, etc). As far as the actual hot pot materials, one of the combos + one a la carte item (noodles, fish balls, etc) is more than enough for me. I've been twice and left completely stuffed. The booths are spaced out well so I did not feel crammed in. If it's your first time, get the dancing noodles!
