My husband accidentally found this place and we absolutely love it! The oyster noddle soup was so flavorful and they put so many oysters in it! I loved my rice dish, too. The staff were so nice, and our food was so good. The portion of food is so good for the price. I cannot wait to come back again!

Came here for the first time and ordered the premium scorched rice soup with seafood and the jajangmyun for two, which was plenty of food for the price! The noodles were perfectly chewy and the black bean sauce was surprisingly rich and flavorful, especially for only being $5.99. The scorched rice soup was thicker than expected, but it was still a comforting and enjoyable bowl. Our server was friendly and attentive throughout. Already looking forward to coming back to try the sweet & sour pork!

My friend and I went to Hainan around 12:30pm on a Sunday. It was decently busy, but we were able to get a table without a wait. It's a bit of a walk from Main Street, so I would recommend catching a bus, especially in the cold weather! The ambiance is casual, with the menu items posted up around the restaurant. For food, it comes down to preference. We each ordered a jjajangmyeon ($11.98 - I could've sworn the menu said $9.99, but that may be a lunch special price?) and a medium tangsuyuk to split ($23.99). Pricing is fair, and it is still cheaper than Manhattan prices. I was a bit off-put by the orange-colored noodles in the jjajangmyeon, but they had a nice silky texture. The sauce was where the dish lost me. I don't know what it is, but it tasted almost like there was a tomato component in the sauce, and the sweet black-bean flavor was not coming through to me. The tangsuyuk was fried well and the coating had a nice texture. However, the meat itself was flavorless and absolutely needed the sauce. Service was mixed, though everyone was courteous. The food came quickly, and I was granted more kimchi when I asked (this kimchi was REALLY good!). However, you have to ask for most things (water, water refill, kimchi refill, etc.). I'm not super put-off by this, since that's how it is in Korea, so just be aware of it. Overall, the food is still good, but since it is not my preference, I will be checking out other places in the area before returning to Hainan.

It remains a mystery to me how the name "Hainan" was selected for this above-average Koreanized-Chinese restaurant in eastern Flushing. There is no relation between the food served here and the beachy island in Southern China. Perhaps it is similar to the way the word "Manchurian" is used to evoke distant lands in Indo-Chinese food, which I can assure you has no culinary relationship with Dongbei cooking. The tofu with vegetables here was one of the best tofu dishes I've had recently. The tofu was perfectly fried with a starchy outer layer and a perfectly custardy interior, served in a thickened gravy. I would come back for this alone. I was less a fan of the jjajjangmyeon. I prefer when restaurants use a mix of corn starch and water to create a thicker sauce from the jjajjang, but there was very little gravy here, and as a result it was hard to impart much flavor upon the noodles.

Life is short. F....it up! Family, Flavor, Friends. was in the neighborhood running errands inside pop in here to try out the food. This is a typical Korean/Chinese style restaurant with the classic jajamyum and jambong. Service is friendly . Mandoo fried nicely and tasty. The chicken was savory and sweet with a good crisp. The noodle dishes came with egg yolk noodles.. Which was a nice touch vs normal ones. Could have a lil more selection of bon Chon . But overall good experience ..try the chicken

Ordered for delivery. The beef noodle soup with seafood was excellent. Beef was savory and cooked properly. Rating 8/10 They use the same noodles in everything and the noodles are great. They are long, soft and chewy. The jjajang sauce was very flavorful and mixed well with the noodles. Rating 8/10 The cream fried shrimp reminds me of walnut shrimp from Chinese restaurants. Shrimps are big. The frying is good. The sauce taste like mayo, honey and a bit of mustard. 8/10

TLDR: Good local spot in the Broadway Flushing area for Korean-Chinese. Very old school flavor and also some tough to find items. Can't go wrong with the jjampong or jajangmyun. I think they've been around for awhile but I never got a chance to try until recently. I found this place because ever since I had jjampong (seafood noodle soup) with beef brisket in Korea - I have been chasing that flavor. So when I saw Hainan had this, I needed to try. The broth was flavorful, it was not too greasy and there was a good amount of seafood. We also tried the spicy jajangmyun which had a nice wok-fried flavor and real spice. Fried dumplings were tasty and the so was the sweet/sour pork. They put the sauce on the side which I prefer - so the coating doesn't get soggy. I think this is one of the better places you can get Korean/Chinese at.

I love a good Korean-Chinese restaurant, and Hainan 100% delivered. They currently have an ongoing promotion for jjajangmyeon--$5.99 a bowl when dining in and $6.99 for take-out or delivery--so run, don't walk. You won't find such a sweet deal anywhere else. * Coolpis Iced Tea 쿨피스 아이스티 $3.50 They have these cute little signs at all their tables advertising drinks, and my partner completely fell for it. He saw the Coolpis Iced Tea sign at our table and was like "That looks good," and proceeded to order one. It was delightful, so peachy, cold, and refreshing! * Noodles in Black Bean Sauce 짜장면 $5.99 Their jjajangmyeon usually costs $9.99, so $5.99 is such a steal. We ordered two bowls, and the portions were huge. The noodles were thick, chewy, and luscious, coated in rich and savory black bean sauce. * Fried Pork with Sweet Sour Sauce (Small) 탕수육 $18.99 When this dish first arrived, my partner looked at the portion and commented, "We should've ordered the medium." I'll admit the portion definitely looked a tad sad, but I was certain that small was enough, and as expected when paired with the jjajangmyeon, it was more than enough. The fried pork was crispy and crunchy, while the sauce was sweet, sour, and tangy, with large pineapple chunks, zucchini, wood ear, and other ingredients. Overall, amazing experience! The staff were sweet, speedy, and attentive, and so quick to refill banchan. Furthermore, they offer Yakult at the end?! 10/10 recommend!

Came with a large party for dinner. We got 2 H1 which came with 3 jajamygeon, fried chicken with spicy sour soy cause, stir friend starch noodle with veg I beef, fried pork with sweet sour sauce, and a charm soju. We also got a seafood jajamygeon with 2 extra jajamygeon, and a spicy noodle soup with seafood. Service was very accommodating. When people said their jajamygeon was good, it was true!! It's also so worth the price!

I was craving jjajangmyun, jjamppong, and tangsuyuk, so my friend recommended that we come try Hainan since it was in the area. We ordered the jjajangmyun (where my friend specified to the waiter to make the jjajang sauce fresh), the sweet rice tansuyuk (pork), and jjamppong. I think the fresh sauce and onions elevated the taste of the jjajangmyun. The tansuyuk was crispy, mochi-like, and airy at the same time. The sauce on the side paired perfectly, and had bits of veggies inside, so you can get a different experience with each bite. The jjamppong was good, but nothing special. The noodles for both dishes were the same but were both bouncy and chewy. I would definitely come here again to satisfy my cravings in the future.

Not sure why my husband picked this place since it's completely out of our way but I am so glad he did! There was a special going on for jjajangmyeon for $5.99 when the usual price is 9.99. We barely looked at the menu and instead looked at the pictures of specials around and ordered those instead. We got two peach iced teas, fried mandoo, jjajangmyeon, spicy beef soup with rice and the sweet and sour fried pork. The iced teas were very nice and refreshing but a tad too sweet. It definitely has a yogurt drink in it. The mandoo was basic, nothing to rave about. jjajangmyeon came in a big bowl and enough for 2 people or one very hungry person. The black bean sauce was thick and sweet and paired with the chewy noodles perfectly. The spicy beef soup was surprising and I wish they had said it somewhere that it is seafood based and not beef based. I am not allergic to shellfish but if someone was, it would not be a pleasant experience. The star of the whole dinner was the sweet and sour pork. The pieces were big and perfectly fried without too much batter. The sauce looked very thick but it didn't taste like it and it was not overly sweet. We ordered the medium size and at first it looked like a huge portion but we ate most of it. The server was very pleasant and made approving comments on the food we ordered. The dining experience was nice, they separated the tables with these dividers and there were no tables next to another party so it felt more cozy. Decoration was bare. Parking is a hit or miss in this area. We would definitely come back again!

Love a good jjajangmyun place! They're currently promoting $5.99 for their opening special. I totally recommend that and their portions are HUGE. Someone ordered the seafood jjampong and it looked amazing. But u recommend u get the fried pork in sweet and sour sauce aka tangsooyuk. Get the one with rice flour batter. The texture was so chewy filled with chunks of meat. We loved it so much were gonna go back. They give u a mini Korean yogurt as their dessert. Came here because my pastor said this was the best jjajangmyun jip (black bean noodle house) around here and gotta say it really was memorable! I'm a huge fan of the jjajangmyun (black bean noodle) in "nunjjajang/ korean noodle house" and the tansooyook/ kkangpoongi (sweet & sour pork/ sweet & spicy shrimp) in "joong koop jip"; however, this place has good jjajangmyun AND tangsooyook-- best of both worlds! This is the best of best Chinese restaurant in New York. The noodles are particularly chewy, so all noodle dishes are delicious. For me, 팔보채-palbochae(on the iron lpate), 칠리새우-chili shrimp,짬뽕-spicy noodle soup) and 콩국수-bean noodle were so delicious. Came here for lunch. Got two orders of lunch special with chicken and noodles with black bean sauce. One was sweet and sour chicken and the other was spicy chicken. Came with only one gyoza and salad. It was good portion. The flavors were normal, not too salty, sweet nor bland. The chicken was a bit crunchy and maybe a little over fried. I am Korean. I would give 2.5 stars. The reviews with 4&5 stars are missing out and never experienced the good dishes... the gganpoongki (깐풍기) was not crispy at all. Crispiness is vital when it comes to tangsooyook(탕수육) and gganpoongki(깐풍기). The jjampong did not have any deep taste in the soup. Only the jjajangmyun was decent/average... unfortunatley, we will not return. We were disappointed... read more

Ok. This was our goto spot for jjajangmyun from the very beginning! Their food taste changed after awhile so we havent gone awhile but decided to give it another try. Jjajangmyun tasted good and jjamppong tasted really good.. but as I was eating I found the "extra" ingredient. Some fruit fly! Really underrated restaurant but I come here very often for the fire seafood noodle soup () because the broth is delicious and the servers and very sweet and nice. The tangsooyook is so good here and the prices are fairly reasonable. Portion sizes are perfect and the service is subpar! read more

This place has really awesome noodles! We went on a Saturday around 1 and it wasnt too crowded, there were also dividers between the tables which was a good precaution (it also gave us privacy). They served us banchan of chopped onions, a small cup of black bean sauce, radish and kimchi and cups of tea before taking our order. Food arrived pretty fast, the sweet and sour fried pork ($15.95 for a small) came out hot and crispy! The nuggets of actual pork werent huge, but still tasted fabulous in the sauce which was littered with slices of cucumber, onion, wood ear and pineapple! The black bean noodles ($7.95) were kind of sweeter than what i am used to. The noodles themselves were really chewy and cooked to perfection. The spicy seafood noodle soup ($12.95) was the dish i was craving the most, especially after reading michelle zauner's "crying in hmart." It had a huge shrimp (with the head), a handful of mussels and a melange of random seafood bits. The broth was savory and spicy, and ladled on top of the same type of noodles we had with the black bean dish. The portion was huge and we were able to split it amongst three people! At the end of the meal, the waiter gave us the check with full sized yakults for each of us! How sweet :) the bathroom was clean, we didnt feel rushed, and they were attentive with refilling our tea. I will definitely be coming for a third visit! read more

Not your typical Korean restaurant. I am assuming that is because their food has some Chinese influence. Food was good. Service was good. Price was reasonable. Great family type restaurant. We have the Pal Bo Chae and seafood noodle soup. It is unique and different from most Korean food. The beer was nice and cold. That was a plus. It is more reasonable priced than the restaurants just a few block away on Northern Blvd. Great place for family dining without with line. read more

At first I tried out this restaurant with my friend and all the food was really good, Jjajangmyon was very tasty without being either too salty or MSG after taste. Jjamppong was my fav there, 'yurinki' was also very tasty. All the ingredients were fresh, good quality and even whole calamary was on top of the jjamppong! So I brought my group of 8friends there, ordered bunch of different dishes, everyone enjoyed the food. Food in general not too greasy not salty unlike ordinary Chinese Korean restaurant. All the servers were very friendly, since the place opened resently, it's very clean and simple but very comfortable to enjoy your food. Definitely want to go there again and try other dishes. read more

Hainan is by far the best Korean-Chinese restaurant I've tried these days. First of all, restaurant is clean and appealing when you walk in, and the waitstaff was friendly and attentive. Our party of 6 ordered a variety of dishes including the usual such as jjajangmyun, jjampong, mapo tofu, and fried shrimp in spicy garlic sauce. We also tried the fried chicken in sour, lemony sauce (Yu Rin Gi) with peppers and scallions which was my first time trying the dish. Everything was cooked perfectly, and super delicious, and we devoured it all. I especially enjoyed the Yi Rin Gi... if you've never had it, it's a must try. The light tangy sauce and the vegetables (scallion and spicy peppers) nicely balance out the fried chicken. I'm definitely going back to Hainan for my next korean-Chinese food craving. read more

We ordered fire seafood spicy noodle and fried clams. Fire seafood spicy noodle was super spicy but it was delicious My favorite was fried clams with noodle! It has little spicy taste which gives a kick to the dish. Highly recommend!! And my tip is that order extra noodle into the dish. It will serve 2-3 people! read more

This restaurants are definition of Korean-style Chinese cuisine. Fresh ingredients, cooked on the spot. Many other places cook the sauce and ingredients beforehand and then mix with noodle when order is placed. I recommend JJa jang-myun, Jjam bbong, and fried rice. They are far better than other Korean-style Chinese restaurants. But they need to work on their entree dishes, especially tangsuyuk. So when you crave for Ja jang-myun, Jjam bbong, and fried rice, this is the place to go. read more

I've lived in flushing area for about 20 years and this place is by far the best korean-chinese restaurant in the area. The staples: jja jang myun, jjangbbong and fried rice are the best on the menu. But I do stay away from their fried dishes as they are not up to par. Definitely a must to go if you are craving some good old korean chinese food. read more

I usually go out of the way and do pick up orders for their Chajangmyun. I've tried numerous different korean-chinese restaurants and I have to say this is one of my new favorites. Their regular chajangmyun has not disappointed and I find it so tasty unlike a lot of other places that prepare it bland. I do wish that the regular chajangmyun came with cuts of beef as other places do. This restaurant does have another kind of order that comes with beef but the sauce is drier, lacks flavor and has way too many onions. I've been wanting to try their "is it chajang?" but they haven't had it available in the last few times I've checked. read more

I really enjoyed the foods here. They have all different unique menus. There outdoor dining was open and have to make an appointment. The reason why I gave three stars is the servers DOES NOT wear mask! The mask was on their chin! Seriously?They took my order literally right next to me. I felt so uncomfortable!! It was ridiculous. if you are korean, jja jjang myun...is like comfort food if you are from ny, then im sure you have your "favorite" spot ...mine use to be chinese house aka joong ghoop jip until i found this place... parking sucks but its ny, suck it up park far away, cause you will probably eat a lot, then walk it off family run, quaint, clean, and most important delicious read more

Me and my mom had Ganjjajang and I can say this was the best Jjajang myun in town. Made from fresh vegetables, it tasted great! And the service there was exceptional. Staffs were all very kind and considerate. I also heard their Jjampong is also best in town. You won't regret! read more

Gochu jjamppong was great but spicy. Fried pork with sweet and sour sauce with sweet rice was okay but I expected it to have more sticky rice in it. Honestly it just tasted like a plain fried port with sweet and sour sauce. Nice staff and various food options. read more

Found this new place down the street. It's korean Chinese cuisine with a LOT OF OPTIONS. We got the spicy black bean noodles and loved it. Definitely a warm and welcoming place perfect for family dinners. The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. They really anticipated our needs during our dinner. Once your number is called, you go up some stairs to the eating/tabled area. There are tables and chairs for 2, 4 and more guests throughout the large space. The pace of the restaurant is very fast...as soon as you are seated, you are given tea and your waiter comes over right away to take any order you are ready to give. Its helpful to ask for a menu while you are waiting for a table so you know what to order when asked. We had some soup dumplings as well as a (large) soup. Everything was very good and out in about 15 minutes...very fast. The soup dumplings were great...but as expected are filled with piping hot broth so be careful when eating. They have some other appetizers and dishes available. There are also some drink options including cold teas, soft drinks and beer. Overall a great experience...despite visiting on a busy Saturday, we were in and out in about 40-45 minutes. Street parking can be tough in the area but there are a few garages around...one of the more reasonable options is the garage at the Skyview shops which currently charge about $6 for up to three (3) hours and is a short 5 minute walk away.

The Original egg tart features a rich, creamy custard that isn't too sweet, letting the flavor shine through perfectly. The Lemon Cloud offers a creative twist with a light marshmallow topping and a hint of lemon spread that pairs beautifully with the custard.
