I found Salon Dana on Yelp, I reluctantly made an appointment expecting it would be just like any other appointment I have had elsewhere, but it was not. I met with Dovelen, she was pleasant from the start, She listened to my thoughts about my hair and of course I had no idea of what to do with it. After a few questions she gave my positive feedback and ideas. She then started my service. In the end I completely loved my hair! I haven't felt like that in quite awhile. Strange, the worker mentioned to me while washing hair she had graduated from beauty school. But because of instructions, the hair cutting process was slow. Usually it snip,snip,snip. But Dana would mention what angle and why she was doing it and how she was holding my hair etc. It's kinda like when you go to the market and get a trainee with an instructor the process is slow and you try to avoid that line if possible. Except the trainee was not cutting my hair but watching. But I will say this, the cut was wonderful. I washed my hair and it all falls into place with little or no help. But then I guess that is why this place is on the pricey side.

I easily made an appointment online. She offers great hours, including appointments on Monday (which is typically my only kid-free day). Parking was easy, but the instructions to the studio were key to finding it (it looks like just another condo). Jada was super nice and very thorough. Donna immediately understood exactly what I wanted and got to work. I desperately needed to cover up my grays and get a trim (it had been almost four months since my last salon visit!), and she did an amazing job. I absolutely LOVE my hair! She is also very fast! My previous salon visits at other places felt so long and exhausting. Not here! The salon also has such a nice touch--they offered me water, coffee, and snacks, which was a lifesaver since I had left the house without my morning coffee. However, I was really surprised to discover that the current owner of the *old* location--where Jenny used to work--is now using a name that is very similar to Mehana Salon! I actually had to call them directly to verify the details and track down the correct address. I specifically asked for my hair to be cut to about neck length, and I pointed to the exact spot. I also asked for layers because my hair is very fine and straight and doesn't hold styling well. I've had this haircut before, and I know it works well for my hair type. Instead, Shari said she would cut some of the length off before washing it. I was facing away from the mirror when she took out a razor and removed what felt like almost all of my hair in one go. She never showed me what she had done. Instead, she immediately directed me to the shampoo station. After washing my hair, she wrapped it in a towel and had me return to the styling chair. Once again, I was kept facing away from the mirror for the entire remainder of the appointment. She continued cutting my hair for about 25 minutes without ever letting me see the progress or asking for my input. When she finally turned me toward the mirror while drying my hair, I was shocked. I honestly wanted to cry. My hair was much shorter than I had requested and looked like a helmet around my head. It was so short that I couldn't even pull it back into a ponytail to hide it. Because of how it was cut, my naturally straight hair curves inward, and I can't style it the way I normally do. To make matters worse, she didn't ask how I normally part my hair until the very end of the appointment--something every stylist I've been to asks before cutting because it affects the entire haircut. She also told me, "I gave you curtain bangs too," even though I never asked for them. In fact, I specifically avoid styles with hair in my face because I don't like them. A haircut takes months to grow out, and this experience has been incredibly upsetting. I went in asking for a specific length and style and left with something completely different, without being given any opportunity to see or approve the haircut during the process. The AC in the salon is pretty bomb. The salon itself is a bit small but enough for you to have personal space. The salon has 5 chairs, 3 shampoo bowl, 2 or 3 dryers and a room for waxing. There's also a couple chairs in front for people to sit and wait. I got the pleasure of having Jazmine service me. She's worked on me before and always did an amazing job. She's very nice and friendly. Parking is available but gets packed real quick due to Jamba Juice, Starbucks, My Cafe, a barbershop and a nail salon being downstairs. Make sure to double check where you're parking because there's signs that say 30 mins or 3 hours limit to park.
