My problem is that she did not even start my daughter's hair at our appointment time. So those extra 15 minutes shouldn't have been charged to me. It would've been nice if she mentioned the extra charge as well instead of just smiling and saying her hair is so thick as she continued to thin it. She did a great job on my daughter's hair but shouldn't start late to do someone's hair and then charge them extra time for going over the hour without asking if I want you to take the "extra time". It was just a bit frustrating.

Nitty Gritty goes out of their way to ensure their salon is an LGBTQ+ safe space - there's specific information on waxing if you're transitioning, an ask for pronouns at the time of registration, and a truly welcoming atmosphere for all. Stefania (Metro owner) was the only stylist I could find that was able to help. That was many years ago. The new place on University is beautifully appointed and the service is always wonderful. Stefania and her crew bend over backwards to please. After the winter lockdown of 2020 my roots grew in so much I decided to 'just embrace the gray'. My hair is not a pretty shade of gray however. Stefania now adds just the right amount of color to make it attractive. I'm very happy with it. Before Metro I had been all over town looking for someone who could 'do it right'. I told her I had found a picture of the cut that I wanted and asked if I could send it to her. She was more than willing to take a look and called me back within minutes to not only assure me that she could do it, but she gave me some suggestions on how to make it even better. I met with her and she began cutting and continued to stop and ask me questions about the length and how I felt about her continuing or asking if I wanted to try it out for a couple of days and then come back if I wanted it shorter. Arrived 15 mins early and walked into bouquet that sells products and clothes. I was escorted to a set of chairs to wait for my time. I was seated in a high traffic area that everyone walks by. I waited 20 mins in the chair. Was not offered anything to drink. Another lady came in and the tech said let me get you a glass of wine. No one even acknowledged that the tech was running late. Upon entering the pedicure/nail area I noticed it was a very loud environment. For $60 for a pedicure I expected more. Asena was friendly but you can tell either she was rushed or new. I had quit a bit of dead skin around my cuticles still after and had to ask her to do it again. I was then placed under a fan which didn't cover all my toes to dry and was blowing cold air. I saw a dryer open and asked to move under it and it had heat. I didn't noticed the spa music playing at all until I was getting ready to leave as that is how noisy it was.

The owner, Karen, had many responses and I put too much faith in them. I usually go to Luxe for my waxes and a little salon near my house for my nails. I didn't have a lot of time, so I decided to get my nails done (mani/pedi) at Luxe, too. I usually work around 55 hours a week and I'm going on vacation, so I'm even shorter on time. I liked my nail tech, but she did a horrible job on the nails. The pedicure, I kept, even though it is bad. The manicure was so bad, I had to remove the polish. It was everywhere (on my skin), which I wasn't too worried about since it would've probably washed off in the shower. But, it didn't cover the whole nail on any finger. And it was so thick it smudged even after 1.5 hours of drying. Being out $130 is bad enough, but I don't have time to get my nails redone. Instead of addressing the issues at this salon, the owner chose to just counter the bad reviews. And now I'm paying the price. I lost 2 hours that I was there plus another 40 minutes drive time AND $130. And I still don't have a manicure or have time to get one. I'm sure there are places in Rochester that have training for nail techs. There's really no excuse for that terrible of a manicure.
