I would just give the warning that there are a lot of stairs at their current location if you have mobility issues. They said they will be relocating so keep eyes open for that! As it was my first time, she did well with cutting and servicing my hair as I wanted and loved how she styled it. It was overall a really great self-care experience and want to visit her again soon. Yay for Phase 2! They officially reopened today and the amount of effort they are making to be sanitized and dressed in the appropriate gear to make us all feel safe is above and beyond. I was so impressed by their efforts to comply by the state standards. And I had an amazing haircut by Charlie. I love this salon!!! They do great hair for an honest price. All the hairdressers get along are really friendly and willing to help each other. This helps create an atmosphere that's relaxed and inviting. They have a great website that gives reminders for appointments and to book appointments which makes it easy for me to book. I've gotten a facial, and facial waxing here and have never been disappointed!! I follow on Instagram also and it's so much fun to see all the cool styles that leave the building. I'm a big fan of this shop, because they do quality work without being pretentious or being beyond hipster levels of hip. I went to the salon in the spring on advice from a male friend. He had never met the young man who cut and colored my hair, so I think he was somewhat new. While the cut was great, he bitched the color requiring two applications and charged me twice for the color. With tip an outrageous bill, which I paid in shock to my regret, came to approximately $285. I called and left a message on their voicemail the next day, but never got a call back. It was right before covid, so I understand. But it should have been caught by the owner as an overcharge before I left. read more

I went on the recommendation of a friend. I have to say first, the stylist I saw was a very nice person, however my hair color was awful. Everything I asked for was the opposite. My blonde was darker (when I wanted it lighter), red and a very dark brown was added, I was horrified. I SPECIFICALLY said "I hate red." When she was done, I asked about the dark brown/red color and was told it will wash out blonde. How? I washed and dried my hair 3 times the same night and nothing changed and when I woke up the next day, I immediately made an appointment with an experienced stylist. I was told I could get a "toner revision" for half price if I wasn't happy with the color (it would have been half of the $205 it cost me) or if I really wasn't happy, she would fix it within 10 days. If it was a little off, I would have given her the opportunity to change it, but I was not going to risk the health of my hair. Most expensive hair experience, painfully disappointing, and to add insult to injury, having to pay someone else even more money to fix it. Thankfully she was able to repair the damage. I will not return and I wouldn't recommend this salon. read more

I've been seeing Katie, the main stylist and owner of Do or Dye, for about 2 years now and I have always been extremely impressed with the job she does. As a guy who used to go to Superbutchers (ahem, Supercuts), I can honestly say that seeing someone who really knows how to cut men's hair is worth it, and Katie definitely fits that bill. She's friendly, funny, and will happily give an opinion on a style without being overbearing. Plus you get a hot shave on your neck with your cut. The space is great with most of the finishing touches coming into place the last time I went in. I would absolutely recommend Do or Dye and Katie to anyone (especially men) looking for a great haircut in Rochester. read more

Katie did the hair and makeup for all the women in my wedding. She was even willing to travel over an hour to Letchworth for the day. She did 3 people's hair and 5 people's makeup in about 6 hours. The whole time she was pleasant, accommodating, and willing to work with whatever we wanted. She and I had a trial a couple of months before the wedding to work out all the kinks and the day of, everything went flawlessly! Plus her laid-back attitude helped me relax and have a good day.. I appreciated that katie was willing to go with a less traditional wedding look that really fit my personality and my wedding. The makeup was also beautiful. With a group of women who don't wear much makeup, i thought that ANYTHING would seem extreme and they wouldn't like it but Katie was able to enhance their natural beauty and make us all look great! Wow this place is awesome! I am a man that likes to think he takes care of his hair. I just moved from AZ and was worried I wouldn't find a place that would cut my hair to my specifications... Well I found it! Not only is the staff warm and welcoming, but interior and decor is awesome!! Clean and refreshing. You can tell try truly care about their business and their passion! By far the best colorist in the rochester area that I've been to. If you want a salon that has a young vibe, knows how to style, and gives you awesome color, look no further. Katie is fantastic and her salon has a cool, retro quirky look to it. There are plenty of salons that know how to do highlights and cut hair. But very few understand how to do vibrant colors well. Katie listened and gave me exactly what I was looking for. I have dark brown-black hair and asked for a subtle dark red ombre/peekaboo effect. When it wasn't quite as vibrant as she or I liked (my fault because I wanted something subtle originally), she added some more red, really making it pop. I'll definitely be back :) read more

LOVED Melissa!!! I have been looking for stylist for few years since moving to Rochester and I'd gone to many before finding Do or Dye. I never found anyone who gave me a haircut I was in love with. A few people had recently recommended the salon and it had the added bonus of being very close to my house so I booked an appointment with Melissa (which was incredibly easy and convenient to do online) The salon was great and everyone was very friendly. My hair can take awhile to cut because I have a lot of it but Melissa never rushed through it and gave me an amazing haircut!! Have been relying on her her now for a couple of years now to keep myself somewhat resembling a human ( at least in regards to haircuts) she has always been great, with a fantastic smile and easy going nature. But I write this praise now because I turned to Melissa yesterday to bring my daughters vision of a hair style to fruition. I can say I nor my daughter could be more pleased with the results.
