My girls were nervous at first but Loretta made them feel comfortable and they had extra pep in their step when they saw the finished look. And the owner is seriously so amazing she went above and beyond and printed my girls a first hair cut certificate and also I forgot to ask to tie my first daughters hair in a hair tie to keep it. But the owner helped gather enough together to tie it afterwords. I absolutely love Rage salon and will recommend everyone to go here! It was finally time to chop it all off. I knew what I wanted, so we quickly spoke about what I was looking for, I showed her references and we got started! The hair wash and mini head massage felt so nice~ We had comfortable small talk and Sachie is just so sweet. As we went through cutting my hair she checked in about the length I wanted and made suggestions on what she'll do and if I wanted it shorter then we can go shorter. I fully agreed! Hair can always be cut shorter, but we can't put it back on once it's cut! In and out within an hour. Chef's kiss. Salon was modern, minimal, and cute. They had soft playing pop music in the background. Something I'm a little sad about is that I did forget my favorite hair clip on her counter, but that's on me. I'm very hesitant about my hair so I always lag on getting haircuts. She was very attentive and did not push any styles or hair colors on me, which I appreciated so much. Where do I even begin?…read more I have never had such an uncomfortable salon experience in my life. First, communication was a disaster. We had been texting before my appointment, and I later realized she was using a translation app because she speaks almost no English. I have absolutely no problem with someone speaking another language, but when you're using bleach on someones hair, communication is extremely important. I was simply trying to make sure she understood exactly what I wanted before putting bleach on my hair. Instead of answering my questions, she kept saying, "If you don't want it, then I won't do it." She said it over and over instead of taking a minute to make sure we understood each other. I wasn't refusing the service I just wanted to know that we were on the same page before she started bleaching my hair. Thankfully, another stylist in the salon, an Italian gentleman, stepped in. He was patient, respectful, and explained exactly what she was trying to say or at least tried. Once he explained it, I understood immediately bc he spoke clear english. I thanked him and told her we could move forward. Then things got even stranger. She suddenly looked at me and asked, "Do you believe in God?" I said, "Of course I believe in God." Then she asked, "Are you Catholic?" I replied, "No, I'm Muslim." I had no idea why my religion was being brought up during a hair appointment. I came there to get my hair done, not to discuss my religious beliefs. The conversation was awkward and completely inappropriate. She then said, "Believe me, I'm scared to do your hair." As soon as she started, she dropped the tray of foils twice. She had only put about four foils in my hair before she started making me help her by handing her foils. She was grabbing the foils out of my hand and telling me I needed to hurry because I wasn't passing them fast enough. Excuse me? I didn't come there to assist with my own hair appointment. I'm paying for a professional service. I asked her, "Are you going to rush through my entire appointment?" She said she had to rush because she was applying bleach. I completely disagreed. Applying bleach doesn't mean you rush through someone's hair, especially when they're paying hundreds of dollars for a color correction. At that point, I no longer felt comfortable and told her I wanted to stop. She removed the four foils that had bleach on them and rinsed the bleach out. While she was doing that, she spilled water all over me. I had to stop her and tell her, "You're spilling water all over me. What are you doing? Dry me off. "After that, I told her she needed to blow-dry my hair because I wasn't walking out of the salon with soaking wet hair. She then offered me a free haircut. I told her, "Absolutely not. I don't want you touching my hair after this. "To make matters worse, she was also late twice. The night before my appointment, she changed my appointment from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Then, while I was already driving to the salon the next day, she texted me again saying she couldn't make it until 12:30 because she had to take a family member to the emergency room. I understand emergencies happen, but combined with everything that happened afterward, it was one red flag after another. The only positive part of my experience was the Italian stylist who helped translate and explain things to me. He was kind, respectful, and professional. I truly appreciated him taking the time to help. As for the rest of my experience, it was stressful, chaotic, and unlike anything I've ever experienced in a salon. I walked out without getting my hair done because I no longer felt comfortable or confident in the service. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this stylist based on my experience. I find large salons stressful for their noise and pushiness to sell treatments and products I had no interest in. Over the years I would return to Yelp, Reddit, Google, and even ChatGPT, searching for a "curly hair" specialist in the Santa Clara area. Almost all were Deva Curl specialists, a program I am not interested in. Nothing stood out as the right place, or the right stylist for me. A few weeks ago I was done with my now ridiculously long hair. I was determined to find the right hairdresser. So I searched Yelp "just" for stylists in my area, since it was useless identifying "curly hair" specialists. Then I searched the Reviews of local stylists for the phrase "curly". That's how I discovered Jamie. She has many good reviews from people who were grateful for their curly cuts. I made a consultation appointment so she could see my hair and we could discuss if we were a good match. Jamie is absolutely delightful. She's joyful, kind, and welcoming (and on time!) and most importantly, she TRULY listens. She asked me so many good and thoughtful questions about what I thought about my hair, what I wanted from a haircut, what my concerns were, and so much more. I've never had a hairdresser who is so thoughtful. I really feel like she sees ME, and wants to help me be happy with the results. Today I finally got my hair cut, and it's absolutely adorable! I'm delighted with the results, and how she was so thoughtful in navigating the different curl patterns in my fine hair. She has an artistry to the way she cuts hair that I am very grateful for. It's unlike any haircut I've had. I asked her to help me choose better hair products that would help my post-menopausal fine hair be its best, curly self. We tried a few things, and she helped me get the most out of my curls in the low-maintenance way I prefer. It was the BEST experience I've had with a hairdresser, possibly ever. And I love that she has her own space within the Sola building, away from the chaos and distractions of a big salon. She gave me her undivided attention, and stayed present, even when I was choosing to not say anything at all.
