I've been wearing extensions since 2020 and have had my fair share of bad experiences, but after finding Raquel, I can honestly say I leave every appointment loving my hair. She has made me feel so confident and beautiful every time. I've dyed my hair almost every color you can think of, and somehow my hair is still so healthy because she truly cares about the health and integrity of your hair. She takes the time to make sure your hair looks amazing while also keeping it strong and healthy. I can't recommend Raquel enough! I had a consultation with Alexis before booking my appointment. I showed her an inspiration photo and explained exactly what I wanted. She told me that because my hair had purple and red tones, it would be more challenging, but she assured me she could achieve the look. I trusted her, especially since I wanted my hair done for my birthday. During the appointment, she had an assistant working on my hair who clearly seemed inexperienced. I was never asked if I was comfortable with the assistant doing part of the service. I understood everyone has to learn, so I didn't say anything. When my hair was finished, I was disappointed. It came out much darker than what I had asked for and looked nothing like my inspiration photo. To her credit, Alexis acknowledged it was too dark and offered to redo it free of charge. I went back for the correction. Before she started, I asked about the highlights because I couldn't see any. She told me they would still show, but even after the redo, there were still no visible highlights, and the final result was still far from what I had requested. I don't like arguing or making a scene, so I accepted it and left. However, I'm extremely disappointed that I spent over $400 and didn't receive the hair color I was promised. Now I have to pay another salon to fix it. Based on my experience, I can't recommend this salon. If a stylist isn't confident they can achieve a specific look, it's better to be honest from the beginning rather than promise something that can't be delivered. read more

This is my first time getting my hair done in the AV and I made sure to do my research. I cannot recommend Hairbend the Salon enough and I'm so happy with my hair cut / color service with Alexis! Salon itself: Clean, welcoming atmosphere, great music, snacks and refreshments, everyone is friendly, alternative vibe, fun art and decor. Honestly everything I love! Love that it's queer owned / female owned and a safe space. Such a gem in the AV (I just moved to the AV after living in the Bay Area for 16 years, Ktown Mid Wilshire LA for 18 years). You have to fill out a questionnaire in order to book and I love the attention and thought behind it because it shows that the stylists will read your inspo/hair history allowing them to make the best decisions for your hair. Service: I picked Alexis as my hair stylist and I was able to book an appointment the very next day. I picked a few hair inspo pics by Alexis on the Hairbend IG. She absolutely delivered. Alexis was warm and welcoming, and she knew just what to do to bring my hair back to life. I just gave her full reign and she also knew what to do based on the inspo (of hers) I shared. I love my layered cut and I got a root touch up with an all over gloss. The before and after pics are insane. Although I didn't get another color done (I'm in my black hair era) I know I will be coming back to Hairbend for my hair cut/color needs whenever I change my mind. I'm very disappointed with how my hair turned out, I've had my hair cut by Kayla three times now this had to be the worst experience yet. I decided to add highlights, very minimal subtle sun-kissed highlights this time around and specifically asked for it not to turn out copper or orange and that's exactly what she gave me, and on that note the highlights are very uneven very chunky in some areas and none in others. The result couldn't be further from the picture I showed her. Before I left she told me I can come in another day to tone it I said sounds good. I text her the day after, no response. I texted her again, she finally responds with a day that she's available. I then responded to her trying to figure out a time and what we would be doing to my hair and she leaves me on seen. I first found Kayla and Ares when they worked part time at Thair Salon in LA. After having already seen two other stylists at other places to try and get my hair to a cool, ice white color like I wanted and only achieving a warmer platinum blonde, Kayla finally got my hair to the right tone, and additionally she combined ideas I liked from different inspo photos to make my hair look exactly as I dreamed, with some cool blue and black tips. Ares did the haircut and shaped it exactly how I wanted it. I loved their work so much that even when they didn't work at Thair anymore, I came all the way out to Lancaster from Oxnard because I knew they were worth it. Kayla did another masterful job at applying the ideas in my inspo photos to my own hair. I was surprised at the results because she actually somehow added even more dimension to the color than what was in the photos, and more than I could even conjure in my own imagination. She also cut the hair in exactly the shape I wanted. I thought it wasn't going to look as good on me as it did on the model, because I'm aware my face looks different than the model's face, but the cut really did look just as fantastic on me, thanks to Kayla. I don't get my hair done very often, but I get very excited when I do because although it's a big trip for me, I know the transformation is gonna look rad! read more

Never made it in to see the place or quality of work. Made an appointment and it was left pending for 6 days. My text to the phone line asking for confirmation of my appointment was never responded to (5 days.) I finally got someone on the phone the day prior and 2 hours later was contacted by the stylist. Only to find out the stylist was 'teaching in LA' the date they had advertised for clients. But gas light me and said: "It would have been helpful if you notated your appointment for the specific purpose of "why" you are booking. If it's booked as 2 haircuts with "no notes" I see it as a general appointment not a primary appointment. You could have called the following weekend of booking the appointment if it is that urgent." I thought you said you were teaching in LA that day? Not that you didn't know I made two appointments for haircuts by selecting the long haircut option. Somehow booking the appointments on the advertised day/times, calling, texting and calling again and it was still my fault ‍ read more

The owner is rude and unprofessional but you all can see for yourself by looking at the responses she gives when anyone criticizes her work. The haircut given by to me was bad. Your attitude was bad. And when I complained you said you don't need my money and to leave then you want to go and post everywhere I stole. On top of that you harassed the lady who FIXED my hair! The only reason yelping you is to get you to that 19% of bad reviews. Meaning real reviews. Not the reviews from your friends. I'm glad you got the backlash you did. Your vibe just wasn't it. You were rude not because I was argumentative, you were rude because I refused to be submissive and let you coerce me into accepting the haircut was good, when in fact, the haircut was choppy and uneven according to the professional who fixed it. You pride yourself of being rude and not caring about customer service because your salon's priority is the HAIR. I have news flash for you: hair doesn't just walk into your salon. PEOPLE with hair walk into salon. And PEOPLE with hair will have to deal with the consequences of a bad quality haircut. I offered to pay for your time, but I was not going to pay for that awful haircut. At the end of the day you could have dealt with me as an unsatisfied customer, but you chose not to when you told me you didn't need my money and asked me to leave. She asked about my hair habits and I mentioned my fear of not wanting to look nice. She gave me realistic options/suggestions, and what I really appreciated was asked me what I liked about the haircuts that I was showing. The salon in itself is just a vibe. It's edgy but bright and still kinda minimalistic. The music is fantastic, which is great cause who wants to listen to boring or overplayed music while you're sitting in the chair for a long time. But let's be real, this review is for Kayla. Way to make 6 hours feel like nothing. So down to earth, so fun to talk to, and she's super real about what is realistic hair goals and how to take care of color. I initially came to this salon to book an appointment for a haircut (nothing special) and they took me in right away. Averil was my stylist and she was awesome, I asked for layers and some shorter pieces in the front and she absolutely delivered. She gave me a lot of advice on how to style my wavy/curly hair and even recommended some products. She was super gentle with my hair I don't think I've ever had someone detangle my hair without it hurting, but she was workin her magic. Pictures are worth a thousand words- and I have three of them. I requested a haircut and balayage and ended up with a chemical burn to my scalp. The hairdresser- Merian left me in foils for over an hour and shampooed, toned, and damaged my hair in the course of 6 hours. Other stylists had to get involved but with no avail, I was assured that my hair could be fixed and my request fulfilled if I returned within the week for toning and proper blending of my hair. When I returned to have my hair fixed the hairdresser didn't seem to know how to fix the problem. At least I got my money back! AVOID AT ALL COST. read more

During one appointment, I had 3 stylists working on my highlights when I had limited time (they vowed to get me out of there on time). It had been about 13+ years since I've gone to a hair salon to get a proper cut and dye job. After doing research, I found Hairbend and chose Kayla to style my hair since I loved all the color and cuts she's worked on. I booked an appointment and forgot to text her about what I wanted, since I haven't experienced hair appointments as an adult lol She kindly reached out to me asking me about what I wanted and assured me she would do the best to accommodate what I wanted (deep green highlights and a trim with subtle curtain bangs). The day of, I was running behind by 5 minutes so I texted Kayla out of courtesy. As soon as I arrived, I told the receptionist about my appointment. Thankfully Kayla was by her chair so she greeted me right away and assured me that the delay was no biggie. I got in the chair, we talked about my hair and Kayla started on it. It was a long process, since I asked for a totally new hair style, but it was fun and easy talking to Kayla who made the hours fly by with conversation as she concentrated on getting my hair right. During the session, all of the other stylists would come over and compliment her work. The owner was super nice and very interested in her stylists' work and techniques. They made me feel so comfortable while I was there. From the music, the clean and awesome decor, to the women-led, open minded, positive atmosphere/ energy. I immediately fell in love with the finished product after Kayla styled my hair. She was happy with the outcome and I was just as pumped. I told her I needed a drastic change and she delivered with her outstanding work. I had personally always been intimidated by hair salon prices and its uppity vibes ,but I am so happy to have found a hair salon where the stylists are incredibly talented, kind, and welcoming.
