Chungs was a great place to eat! (6 years ago) now charging for sauces & plate size has shrunk 50%

Chungs has been around many years in Poulsbo. It's great for what you expect of a family run teriyaki shop. Most people get their food to go, but they do have quite a bit of seating. Sometimes the chicken breast teriyaki is dry, but usually the food is cooked well and flavorful. I love the Thai Tea. I appreciate the option to get a half order, too. read more

This used to be my favorite teriyaki place around. But they were not as good as I used to be. First thing that was an issue is they didn't give me what I ordered. I ordered the Hong Kong noodles and I got all the way home. And they had given me teriyaki over noodles. And I did not like it. When I called to let them know what had happened. They couldn't quite understand me so I just had to let it go. The teriyaki mate is usually really good. Because it has a sweet and smokey flavor to it. This time, though it had that sweet and smoky, but it also had a off putting flavor like soap or something. I didn't just order from myself this time. It ordered for my big Sis. And she also brought up the fact that hers had that soap kind of taste. But as I said, they bid my favorite teriyaki place in years past. So i'm not gonna give up on that. I will go again and make sure that I check my order before I leave. If it's good again I will let you know. If it's not then you normally will hear from me again. read more

Ever since I've moved here to WA, this has been my go to place for teriyaki. Drive thru makes it that much easier. I love that they plate the plates with a little bit of cabbage and noodles. Mix it with the rice and you got yourself a meal. Banh mi is okay, there are only bbq and teriyaki choices. Why doesn't anyone ever have real cold cut banh mi around here? Anyways I've never tried their pho. But my family enjoys their Hong Kong noodles. Every time I need fast substantial food and don't want to get out of my car, this place is my go to. read more

Hot fast delicious and way more than you can eat! Friendly! Good food.. and the thai tea is amazing. There is seating here and restrooms for customers. This place is fast so be ready with your order. If you dont like cabbage ask for no veges as it is a side with a bit of noodle they are plain. And if you aren't too hungry order a half order no problem its plenty!! read more

I haven't been to Chungs in years and I'm sorry that I haven't. It was just as good as ever. The chicken and beef was tender and full of flavor. The food was hot and delicious. The noodles and cabbage was wonderful. Huge portion of scrumptious teriyaki. Enough for two meals undoubtedly. Can't wait to go again soon and try the rest of the menu. I love how kind and genuine the workers are. The service is very good and fast. The food is delicious I get the teriyaki chicken everytime and it's the best teriyaki chicken I have ever had. The overall vibe of the whole food place is very peaceful and quiet. I love how they didn't make it Modern like most of the food places in Poulsbo. This place is awful, chicken was chewy and lukewarm and not hot off the grill, the noodles were watery with no flavor made with boiled cabbage and that is it. We will not be coming.back, I'm not sure what happened maybe the ownership has changed. Money wasted down the drain, I washed the funky sauce from the chicken and fed it to my dog. read more

I haven't been to chungs teriyaki in YEARS. At least 5. As the only teriyaki place open on Sunday in the proximity we wanted, we decided to give it a chance. Tl;dr noodles are bomb, teriyaki is bleh. The poulsbo location is definitely on the dingy side, but the kitchen looked clean and the staff was kind. Their menu is limited, with daily(?) specials of gyoza or egg rolls. The egg rolls were pretty bomb, filled with soft chicken and covered with a perfect crispy shell. The sauce was WAY too fishy. Tasted sort of like a musky fishy grossness. I wanted yakisoba noodles but they have Hong Kong. I still don't 100% get the distinction by these were HEAVENLY. I got chicken & tofu, no cabbage. I barely made a dent. The tofu was tasty and perfectly crisp yet moist, which seems to be tough for some places. The chicken was also super flavorful and a great texture. Can't wait to come back for those leftovers the meat/tofu to noodle ratio was a little off, but I'm sure cabbage would have evened it out. My partner got the chicken teriyaki. I remember years ago not being fond of the sauce, and it still stands now. All of the was drenched. It was salty yet watery? The chicken was again cooked perfectly so that was disappointing. It came with some side of boiled cabbage and a couple noodles which I personally think is strange? but also I don't eat cabbage lol. We also picked up the beef teriyaki for his brother, who was super unimpressed. Said he prefers teriyaki town (but they're not open on the weekends). Overall, I'd definitely go back for the noodles. Otherwise, I'd wait until the weekday for somewhere else, in my opinion. read more

In most cities Chung's might be three stars, but it's all about location, location, location and in Poulsbo, Chung's is a mainstay deserving of that extra star. Portions are generous, prices are reasonable, and service is fast even during rushes. Seasoning is heavy and meat is low grade, though it's hard to go wrong with the chicken. A half size (about $6) is more than enough for a meal, and a full size (about $10) can easily serve two. read more

Chung's is the best teriyaki I have had in WA state. I live in Olympia now and never miss an opportunity to stop in when I am in the area. I recommend the chicken. And the fried rice is the best in town! Always fast service. Update - June 2015, still awesome. read more

Got the chicken breast teriyaki and it was so incredibly dry. The sauce was a good flavor but the texture was just so bad it was hard to eat. The regular teriyaki chicken had a way better texture but I prefer chicken breast so that was disappointing. read more

By far the best teriyaki I have had!!!!!! I MISS this place so much since moving to Seattle. I have yet found any place comparable. Everything on their menu is under $10 and you get a heaping portion of food. I would have to say my favorite dish is the Hong Kong noodles with chicken and then an order of thier massive spring rolls. Chung's is a very small place so there is only a few seats but it's a mainly a take out place. You can choose from chicken, pork, beef, tofu and shrimp or you get all of them for an extra cost. You can also choose from regular sticky rice or fried rice, which is my favorite, and all the dishes come in either a full size or half size. They do not accept credit cards so make sure you come in with cash. They have a very friendly staff and have great service. So if you want cheap great tasting teriyaki that come in huge portions this is the place to come. read more

Had the large bowl of the Pho Dac Biet - aka the Special Vietnamese Beef noodle soup that has everything. And it was great. The broth was flavorful, noodles were cooked perfectly, and the meat that went into it all was plentiful and great. Met the owner - Chung, and he shared with us that he cooks the broth overnight, like traditional Vietnamese beef noodle soup. Chung's is a fabulous take-out only teriyaki joint. Very generous portions of chicken, pork, or beef. Just really really good smoky flavor with a tiny hint of orange in their marinade. The price is right, like $4.99 for your basic dinner. This is not a delivery place, and there is no seating - you just call ahead or walk in and order and you're out in minutes. Chung's Teriyaki has become that typical place in Poulsbo that you tell all of your friends from out of town they have to try. They make Teriyaki everywhere, but nothing quite tastes like Chung's. The menu is simple. Other than a few specialty items like fried rice and hong kong noodles, they specialize in chicken, pork, beef, or tofu teriyaki. These days you can get it with mushrooms if you like, and either in a half size or full size. The interior resembles a hole in the wall, literally. Other than a few paintings on the wall for sale and a television set that always plays the news, there is nothing but subtly dirty white walls and tired used tables. So what's so great about this place? Everything. The food tastes great, and really has become a staple of the Poulsbo community. Who around here hasn't eaten at Chung's? And while they in no way invented Teriyaki, i'm sure there are people in this town that would claim they did. The prices are extremely reasonable, which is a huge breath of fresh air. It's something the Pho places in town could learn from them. Hint Hint. The service is nice and friendly. You can't help but catch that neighborhood feel when the staff recognize your face, and this is coming from somebody who doesn't go there THAT often. Food tastes great. Prices aren't great for what you get. Large amounts of MSG in the food, so avoid this place if you're sensitive. I had a huge MSG reaction, not just a headache, and another in our party of four had one also. I'd pass this place up for the many other options in the area. read more

Was visiting family in the area and they regularly order takeout from here. I had the teriyaki chicken the first time. Truly delicious. It's dark meat chicken with sauce, rice and sauteed cabbage. Huge portions so plenty of leftovers. I got the fried noodles with chicken and veggies the 2nd time. Not as flavorful as the teriyaki but still good. Noodles were a bit chewy and dry and the chicken was plain with very little teriyaki flavor. Huge portion tho. Prices seemed ok for the area. They're fast. They have a small dining room and we saw a few people eating in while we waited for our food but for the most part, people were picking up takeout. Busy place. Good food, good service. read more

I don't usually give bad reviews. The food here is good and we've frequented them for many years for take out and large portions for parties. This year, however, when ordering large amounts several times, they were not consistent in their pricing and the last time when confronted with this, they gave us 1/2 of what they promised and charged more than they did the prior time. They were rude to us. I will look for a place nearby that has better customer service. read more

Have received good/warm/fresh food every time I frequent this establishment. This time, however, was different. In the midst of a health inspection visit (was going to be receiving a !00% eval w/ some notes), we ordered our usual chicken breast meal. Ordered family dinner tonight from Chungs and normally it's a decent place to get greasy Asian food but our order was missing a third of the items! We didn't get three of our entrees and when we called Chung's they denied us a refund for the items we didn't receive and told us we could come in tomorrow when they open to get our items... like how does that help the situation?? They also told us to check our receipt again because they didn't get the whole order... sooooo why can I come tomorrow and get my missing items...? That makes no sense to me! This is NOT Chung's like the one in Silverdale! Don't be fooled, they cook kinda the same thing but it's not the same at all. Apparently this one and the Silverdale one were owned by the same person but not anymore. Now if you go to this Poulsbo location and even mention the Silverdale location they seem to get seriously upset at you. This one doesn't offer a military discount and doesn't have the same menu. The food doesn't taste the same for the dishes that appear the same and we both felt really sick that night after eating here. The food was super greasy unlike Silverdale and the dining area was super dirty. I believe the person that took our order (it's only order at the counter, no sit down and order like Silverdale) was the owner and he was very very rude. I heard so many recommendations for this place and was so excited to try it. First of all, the place was so filthy. They was baked on grease, grime and dust everywhere - I should have taken that as a clue to walk out. We got our food quickly and took it home as the seating area was closed for construction. The beef was "ok" but not good. The chicken and pork both just tasted old. I only took one bite of the pork. It didn't taste right at all and I was worried about getting sick from it. So sad. My mind is boggles as to how so many people rave about this place. Is there another Chungs somewhere? I donno. This place is filthy. I can't believe the health department allows this place to serve food. We went in for carry-out (the Chungs in Silverdale is great, so I assumed...). I looked around at the dust bunnies hanging from the dirty ceiling tiles, the food on the floor (clearly had been dropped quite a while back) and the grease buildup on countless surfaces - promptly turned around and hightailed it out of there.
