BOMB. Every roll, every bite of fish is fresh delicious and so good! Not chewy, not cheap..this is Japanese cuisine that delivers real Japanese flavor and quality. Hamachi collar was perfect too. Delivery to Poulsbo showed up just as ordered. There's only two top-tear Japanese restaurants in Kitsap and the other one is on Bainbridge. 3.5/5 Service was extremely slow. One table up and left due to the wait. It looks like the bottleneck was with the sushi chef, as the table service seemed adequate. It's better than Jo:a and Hakata under new ownership, but it's nowhere near as good as Subi. It's a little under or maybe it compares to Mori Sushi&Bento. I've had much better in large cities, at the better restaurants. Prices are average to slightly below average for sushi in Kitsap. Fish offerings are pretty limited. No real crab for instance - it is all mayo-heavy Krab salad. Consequently, there's few nigiri; most of the offerings are the big Americanized saucy rolls. From the kitchen, the bento box was just ok. Fat, gristly, skin on cheap chicken cuts for the teriyaki, but at the price-point it was to be expected. Tempura, seaweed salad and udon soup were unremarkable. read more

Third time my wife and I have eaten here and we've never been disappointed. This time we sat at the sushi bar for about 10 minutes while waiting for a booth to open. That worked out well because we had a chance to talk with the head sushi guy and get a couple of his recommendations. And that's what we ordered: the Sea Dragon Roll and the Amazing Roll (each $16.50) and both were totally delicious! We started with an order of Geso Karaage ($9.00), deep fried squid tentacles. The squid was nice and tender, but hard to deal with because the pieces are too big. Had a couple of Japanese beers too ($5.50 each). We'll definitely return! And for the reviewer here who complained about smoking in the kitchen...I'd be bothered by that too. We haven't experienced that, but if I did, I'd be calling the County Health Dept. to complain...not just complaining to the restaurant owners/staff. read more

So I asked my sister what she thought of this place after we ate and her exact words were "not bad, not good just edible." I gotta say I agree, I was really excited to try this place but once we got our rolls it was very underwhelming. Maybe because they looked so plain and dry, maybe cuz the appetizer I ordered was not as flavorable as other restaurants and kinda faded into the background, whatever it is my experience was just ok. Started with agedashi tofu (which i love and always order at every restaurant I get a chance at) there wasn't much broth also it wasn't as full flavored. Then my sister ordered takoyaki which looked over cooked, visibly overcooked. Our two rolls looked sad without any sauce on top and more like a homestyle presentation and you really wouldn't be able to tell that 1 had lobster from the other by taste or appearance. We enjoy the Yamazaki experience a lot. The bento box with customization options is a favorite as is tonight's discovery of the avocado salad, a lovely composition of field greens, little squares of sliced avocado, all topped with a very tasty sesame-esque dressing; it's enough for two. I stand by my 5 star rating, but with a couple of caveats: the agedashi tofu appetizer is made with silken tofu and is quite fall-aparty so there's virtually no way to pick up whole slices with chopsticks (hold on to that spoon if your entree includes miso soup), and the tempura options in the bento box do not automatically come with tempura sauce (they seem happy to provide it but you have to ask). Had the pork belly bun, salmon nigiri, jalapenos stuffed with cream cheese and salmon, as well as the karaage appetizer. The nigiri was so bad. Salmon tasted watery and the rice was undercooked/crunchy with no flavor at all. The pork bun was pretty good and I really liked the karaage. I wouldn't recommend the salmon poppers. Too much salmon that tasted bland and over cooked and not enough cream cheese. The jalapenos had no spice. Just a boring fried blob. Overall I wouldn't go back. read more

I heard this place opened earlier this month and knew we had to give it a try. After looking at their menu online, we knew we had to go sooner rather than later. We went tonight, a Sunday at about 6:00pm. There was one other table occupied, and it looked to be about 8 tables total. With great music playing(A perfect mix of what we can only describe as island pop?)We knew we were in for a good time. Our waitress was super sweet and super attentive during our entire meal. Our sodas never went empty, and she checked in a couple times to make sure we were enjoying our meal. We started with miso soup, which was great. Then my husband and ordered the sukiyaki steak, and I got three fried rolls.... because I'm an absolute sucker for fried sushi rolls and they had a whole little section of them! I got the fried California roll(always my favorite), the spicy tuna and the volcano roll. Our food was amazing. All of it. My husbands steak dish had a great amount of veggies, the sauce on the meal itself was so good, and the dipping sauce was the perfect kicker! My rolls were all done to perfection and the volcano will now be a must with the fried California! My only gripe, while small... is that the menu doesn't tell you which items have raw fish, and which ones are completely cooked(and a lot of the rolls lack descriptions). For someone who doesn't know a whole lot about sushi, I like as much info as possible, but really, that's the only little thing that's even a tad negative about this amazing place. Our first experience here was wonderful, and we will for sure be back! My husband told me more than once that this is now his favorite restaurant in the area(which is huge for him) So excited to have heard about this place and even more excited to watch it grow. read more

Placed an order and was so excited to have sushi since I've been craving it all week! I ordered one roll and three orders of nigiri. My husband came home with my order and as I opened it I noticed I was missing the Ika nigiri order :( The food was amazing though, the ratio of fish to rice was perfect. I got a side of wasabi and ginger and a bunch of soy sauce packets! I really wish someone would've reached out to me to let me know if it was out of stock, or maybe it was forgotten. If you haven't gone to Yamazaki's your missing out. Wife and I wanted to sit down and enjoy the food hot off the grill, Kinza was an hour wait and Fujiyama was take out only yesterday. I'm a real stickler when it comes to Sushi so I'm not a "trappers" fan but I always compare sushi to I love sushi in Bellevue. Anyhow, I like my steak cooked rare and find it difficult to get anything close to ElGauchos/TheMet/MichaelJordans/Jak's etc... UNTIL LAST NIGHT. 19 for the New York and 25 for Filet Mignon (as pictured). I'm usually not a sauce guy but this combination works. I own a Traeger and cook a lot of choice and prime meats since I couldn't find good steak in Kitsap but now theirs a new alternative. Note: wait times are about 20-30 minutes, if you call ahead you can get on the list. If it's longer I suggest going next door to the Toad House and have a drink till they call your cell. Ordered 3 rolls, and what I received was poor quality. The rice was not seasoned and was not sticky. The rolls couldn't even be picked up by hand or chopsticks without falling apart completely. Roll thickness was inconsistent, and rice was not dispersed evenly throughout the roll. The rolls were huge, almost the size of my hand, and not rolled tightly. Vegetable Roll had some onion in it when there is no mention of it in the ingredients. Salmon Skin Roll still had scales on the salmon skin. Overall, the ingredient quality was good, but the quality and consistency of this restaurant have drastically decreased since they opened. read more

This sushi restaurant is a hidden gem in the West Bremerton area. Located inside of a shopping center, Yamazaki is a little restaurant slot that is set to cure your sushi hankering. Their sushi is delicious and well accommodating, so much so that you can even ask the sushi chefs for an item not offered on the menu and they will try to make it for you. Yamazaki offers mainly sushi and/or Asian dishes but does offer some prime cut steaks. They also offer a healthy amount of Asian adult beverages for people of the correct age. Though they offer a bountiful amount of food, they do not charge an obsurd amount of money for their entrées. Is it cheap? That's subjective. However, it affordable? Yes. The restaurant is a rectangle with the kitchen and sushi bar on one side and the other side is tables/booths for the customers to eat and enjoy their food. The service is polite, easy going, and knowledgeable. They waitresses are very efficient at collecting orders, delivering food, and cleaning up discarded dishes while you dine-in at the Yamazaki restaurant. In terms of dining, you cna obviously do dine-in and order out, however there are no opportunities for outdoor dining. The parking is shared with other businesses in the shopping center however there are plenty of parking and should not be a concern when trying to park. Overall, if you are feeling adventurous and looking for a new'ish (opened in 2021) sushi restaurant in the Bremerton area do not hesitate to try out Yamazaki Sushi & Steaks. read more

I always enjoy this place but wasn't able to get in there so I door dashed it. There's some risk with quality and temperature when you do this but not here. Taste just as good if I was in the store. Love the steak and rainbow roll. Gotta be upfront the store is about two miles away from my place but besides that the food was amazing. Try everything there and you'll be happy. Great food. Some of the best food I have had since the last time in Japan. Better than Jo:a (rip-off), Hakata, or Origami Sushi in the local Kitsap area. They are housed in the old Trapper's spot in East Bremerton. Booth and sushi bar seating. It's not fancy. And who cares. It was cozy, fun, and light. Great island music in the background. The staff was awesome. And our bill?? Comparable or less than others in the area. The place was hopping on a Thursday at 5pm. Families and couples alike. I almost lost myself with the texture of the yellowtail and albacore in my roll(s). While they do have katsu and a few other dishes (plus burger/steaks), they are primarily a sushi place. The house sake was mellow and lovely. Selection? I was able to have snail nigiri (twice because it was nom nom), and urchin sashimi/nigiri (first time ever for a local place to serve either). Tobiko, tuna, spicy, etc. It was all good. This may very well replace our go-to place in Kitsap. And BTW, Trapper's here (and in Silverdale) is GHETTO by comparison. If you want crappy, American-style sushi (and all the icky "Yum-yum" 'American junk), by all means go to Trapper's, or other places. Most American sushi places are VERY disappointing. Yamasaki does not disappoint. (I like their selection better than Doom Sushi in Gig Harbor). And while they don't offer Chinese/Vietnamese options (like Origami), they do offer some steak and Japanese meat options that should be a pleaser. read more

Winter hours are different than posted on Yelp.. open at 12 on Sundays.. so we came at 11 then came back at 12.. waitress was super nice at accommodating 8 of us.. had to add a table and a few chairs to a booth. It was tasting pretty good until I got to the spicy yellow tail roll. The first four that I ate was good, but then last few were fishy tasting to the point I'm gagging. I know I've had Spicy yellowtail in different sushi restaurants that did not make me gag nor was it fishy tasting. Next for starters was the Fried Seafood & Cream Cheese Gyoza (WARNING: It's lava hot inside when it shows up to your table) The two rolls I went with were the Rain Roll: which had a lot going on but all the different seafoods melded well together, and Scorpion King Roll: not sure why American Sushi is infatuated with avocado on their sushi, but this added a nice creaminess to this one that I enjoyed. Pretty decent sushi spot, especially in the Bremerton area! The inside of the restaurant is clean with a lot of cool intricate designs on the walls next to the booths. The food is tasty with fair pricing. So far I've had their Seattle roll, Salmon lover and & Salmon don! Ordered delivery meals, the salmon, portions were gigantic. Problem was the on-line menu didn't mention their salmon is cooked in a pile of shrimp. I'm mostly vegetarian but do eat fish, just never shellfish, not kosher and I just don't. When I saw the generous portion of shrimp all over the salmon, I thought ooo gross, but then decided oh what the hell this was expensive so I'm gonna eat it. This was first taste of shellfish in 50+ years. Within an hour my throat nearly closed but by concentration I could hold my throat open far enough to breathe poorly. First time I ever needed an epipen! I took double the recommended dose of an antihistamine, tiny pills but could barely swallow them through the narrow passage left in my throat. I could not speak more than a few croaking squeaking words. My tongue, eyes, lower lip, cheeks swelled up. I broke out in hives (nickel-sized raised white welts) and itched like fire. I got incredibly weak, could barely walk, barely stand up, so went to bed but was afraid to fall asleep since I could only breathe by concentrating to keep my throat open. An hour later I vomited an incredible amount of bile, nothing solid in it. Followed shortly after with severe diarrhea, still so weak I could barely sit up on the toilet. My sweetie wanted to take me to the emergency room which would probably have been a good idea but I wouldn't go. After about 8 hours I could breathe not normally but not in fear of choking to death if I fell asleep. Curiously, super-tired though I was, I couldn't sleep, and didn't for the next 30 hours! No idea if that was from an adrenaline rush or what because I was dead tired and weak but couldn't sleep. For this experience I should give 'em zero stars but the food was good and most people wouldn't nearly die from it. They should however make sure on-line menus, all menus, mention if something's cooked with shrimp because it's a very common killer allergy, one I never even knew I had. read more

Second time eating at Yamasaki Sushi and Steaks, first time for the sushi, second time for the steak (and sushi) and always delicious and filling! The rock shrimp tempura appetizer is good sized with crispy plump shrimp and a sweet and tangy dipping sauce. I thought I'd be my go-to but after trying the Sukiyaki steak, my belly doesn't have room for both and the steak wins out. A healthy dose of broccoli and onions with your meat, you end up with a well balanced dish that's full of incredible flavor. The sauce is so good you might have to ask for more! Now for the sushi- be prepared for heaping cuts of fish for your nigiri and order accordingly. I've definitely had to dial back my normal order because you get such a big piece of fish on each order. Sashismi only comes two pieces to an order, a bit smaller than I'm used to for the price so I'll be sticking to nigiri here. Was not a huge fan of the unagi, but the salmon, maguro, and toro (when in stock) is great. There's a large selection of specialty rolls to choose from in the middle of a 5+ page menu so you might have to come back multiple times to find your faves. Tried the Goku roll and was a fan. The seating is quite limited but the booths are cozy and waitstaff incredibly friendly. If you catch them on a busy night, it's worth the wait! read more
