This place has good food and every time I've been there (mostly for lunch) fairly fast service - I ordered sushi and the waitress told me it could be a while, but it was less than ten minutes, which isn't a long wait to me. The sushi is the best part especially the Ichiro Roll - highly recommend that! Only ordered a meal once - the broiled Mackeral - it was pretty good, although lots of bones (of course, it IS fish!). It was a lot of food. I'm taking away one star because in order to use your card during lunch you have to order $15 or more ($25 for dinner) - for people, like me, who use their debit card all the time, this is kind of inconvenient. read more

Very limited sushi menu along with subpar service. We are visiting from Colorado and I was looking for some non-land locked sushi. The ratings on Yelp were very favorable so we decided to give them a try. We sat down and asked for water to drink. They brought out tea. We ordered 7 different types of sushi. They only had -12 choices my wife and youngest son ordered teriyaki because they do not like sushi. The sushi arrived fairly quickly and was quite tasty did I mention we asked for water? We asked again when the teriyaki arrived. We had to ask for water three times before it was actually served. So because of the limited Sushi menu and poor service I give this place three stars. This is one of the VERY FEW places in Kitsap county to get authentic Japanese food. The food is great, service is fast, and you get a lot for what you pay for. I'm an extremely picky eater, but have honestly loved everything I've tried. Even though the place is on the smaller side they've made each table intimate, with what I suppose you could call privacy barriers, so you don't feel like you're sitting right up on other guests. Hakata is our absolute favorite place to eat in Silverdale! Even our picky eater kids ask for Hakata over anywhere else since they were toddlers. They are very family friendly and the food is consistently tasty. Hakata's menu is fairly typical for "American" Japanese restaurants - Teriyaki, Tempura, Tonkatsu, Unaju, varieties of Udon and of course fresh, unassuming sushi (ie. not a swanky SF club). Love there food. Sugi and Aris are amazing. Sorry I can't spell their names. Aris already knew my favorite foods before I ever met him. Aris was taught well by Sugi. Sugi also is very funny can't make you laugh. Lets just hope you don't do it with you mouth open. He can be mean and hold my food hostage as a joke. This is the best Sushi place in Kitsap and would hold it's own in Seattle too. Besides the always fresh raw ingredients, the Spider Roll and Green Shell Muscles are outstanding. I read a review here that complained about the service. I am not Asian and I have never experienced or seen poor service in any visit. This place is my favorite sushi restaurant and definitely up there with my favorite restaurants all together. The sushi is always fresh and wonderful and the hot dishes are excellent as well. I'm not sure how the service is at the tables since my husband and I always sit at the sushi bar but the service where we are is always excellent. Food was good enough to garner a second star. I was there with my mother who was visiting and only gets to visit a few times a year if lucky, it was our last dinner before she left. We figured that wed go somewhere special and have a good time. At the very end of it all after packaging my food i stuffed the used chopsticks in my togo container without thinking, as a habit, and the waiter had the audacity to tell me i was theiving (as if theyd reuse their cheap wooden break-off chopsticks) and then promptly put three sets of chopsticks into my bag. I dont know if he was joking but i do not take theiving lightly and that shouldnt be thrown around as joke because its not funny, it insulted me. read more

The worst sushi I have ever ate or seen!!!! Tiny pieces filled with mostly rice and invisible pieces of some sort of fish you will never recognize. I asked to skip the onion and got extra. I had an allergic reaction right away. Raw onion do not agree with me. Who puts white raw onions inside of a sushi roll anyway? They were not even marinated. I've been there twice in my short time living here in Silverdale. I've eaten in many sushi places all over puget sound and Hakata is outstanding. Fish is very fresh and the service was very good both times I was there by both management and wait staff. I've been to one other place in Silverdale and found this to be much better and although priced higher, it is always very clean compared to others. read more

I love this place. I have been wanting to try another sushi establishment in Silverdale and have driven to Silverdale twice to do so, but the business was closed for a few hours in the afternoon and the first attempt, there was no sign and I was not able to reach them by phone. I was really disappointed because I had driven from Elma WA both times to try to eat here. The reason I am saying all of this, is this experience led me to Hakata. I had made a date with my sister for Silverdale sushi to try this joint ONE MORE TIME, but my sister preferred to go to Hakata. She has been to your restaurant before and loves it. Hakata also closes during certain afternoon hours. Not knowing exactly what time, I will guess 3-5 PM? So we waited in our vehicle and visited the nearby hobby shop. As we waited, about eight people lined up at the door waiting for them to open for dinner. This was a good sign. Once open, the rush of people filled the place up (There were more folks waiting in their cars). We could not get a seat at the small sushi bar, as a large party had pretty much taken it over, and that was fine. I, personally, enjoy sitting at the sushi bar so that I can watch the sushi mans preparations and annoy them with doofy questions, but that is how I see and learn what looks good and what I'd like to try. I enjoy watching them create their art. I ordered Hamachi nigiri first because that is how I test a sushi establishment. If the Hamachi is good, the rest is good. Their Hamachi was DELICIOUS!!!! I ordered a few pieces of Nigiri and a couple rolls to share with the others in my party. I tried their spicy tuna roll.....O....M.....G.....it was THE best spicy tuna roll I have ever had in my life. Most sushi places make a mushy tuna mixed with saracha sauce to create the spicy tuna. I love spicy tuna. But Hakata kept the tuna semi-chunky and the sauce they added to it just made this roll taste amazing. It was so good I had to order two of them. The prices are very reasonable. I usually go to Olympia for sushi and Olympia is a little more pricey. A little gem of a sushi restaurant. Lower prices, high quality sushi, friendly staff. They don't have a huge sushi menu, but what they do have is most excellent. I will most definitely be back to this amazing place. read more

I have been going to Hakata for at least 10 years. The food and service are exceptional and always extremely consistent. Sugi and his family run the restaurant in addition to the wonderful employees. It is a happy place with many satisfied patrons. There are also a number of Asian patrons which is always a sign of good and authentic cuisine. Their prices are great and also very consistent. In my experience, there is just no better sushi bar this side of the water. It is my favorite restaurant and I am there regularly. You can go to the best sushi bars in Seattle and pay twice or three times as much, but the food is no better. Hakata Rules! read more

OK - this is only for the food, and I ordered sushi to take out. I have a pretty good overview of sushi - have eaten a lot of sushi in California, Toronto and even Florida. We got the Ichiro roll, the Crunchy roll, salmon Nigiri and the Shrimp Tempura roll. Delicious - both of us wished we had more when we were finished. I picked up the food, and the place was semi-full. I reserve my full opinion for dinner there, but I've got to say that the fish was Fresh, asparagus good and crunchy, flavorful....(from the Ichiro roll), tempura batter perfect. Not too much rice used, so you could really taste the ingredients. We also ordered factoring in fish that were not in danger of being "over-fished" locally. VERY happy with this place! read more

I'm a sucker for nabeyaki udon. It's not that difficult to make and it shouldn't cost so much in my mind. I suppose the whole shiitake mushroom takes up majority of the cost? Seriously, the chicken pieces were overcooked and just gross. Presentation was...Wait, what presentation??? Next time I went, I ordered their luncheon bento special with spicy garlic chicken was the main dish. What I got was some heavy shoyu sugar glaze covered overly deep fried battered chicken pieces. Where's the spicy? Where's the garlic? The rest of the bento was just not good. I don't even want to talk about it any more. Just two words: Never again. I feel like the servers are homemakers (nothing wrong with homemakers...I'm one myself) with no training whatsoever. Perhaps this is the reason for other nonpositive comments on service. Japanese restaurant food have been over priced since I've been in Seattle area (circa 1977). Not sure why but I don't see this changing. I don't eat sashimi/sushi in the Kitsap area or just any restaurants with a sushi menu because I'm just overly cautious about my raw fish. BTW...for those who claim authenticity...y'all don't know what that means unless you've actually eaten in JAPAN (or any other country you are reviewing). Food reviews are opinions. Mine vs Yours. Freshest sushi at a great value! Can't get better than that... and you won't in Kitsap County. I've eaten sushi all over and Sugi-son's is simply delicious! This family run restaurant gets all the basics right and then some. Very accommodating with special orders and Sugi always has some surprises that are not on the menu. My favorite is the spicy tuna role and try the Sunrise nigiri, scollops wrapped with smoked salmon. Yum! read more

I have traveled extensively and rate Hakata's as one of the best sushi places I've ever been. But what makes this place special is the way Sugi and his staff always make you feel like family. They are happy to customize your order and the prices are very reasonable. Sometime I call in the order so that it's ready to pick up and take on the road. I eat here at least 4 times a month! Best restaurant in Silverdale by far. By the way, if you don't like sushi, their garlic chicken or steak is a favorite for many of my friends! I'm happy to give Hakata's a 5 star rating. read more

The BEST Japanese restaurant in this area. Lived in Japan for about 12 years and they are the most authentic. Japanese food isn't just sushi....you have to try the entrees. I recommend the Ton Katsu or Katsudon. Their Gyoza is the best you'll find. The only downfall about Hakata is they are closed between 2pm and 5pm, also all day on Sun and Monday. read more

Horrible. The chef put so much wasabi on my niguri and tuna roll that i could not stand it. Plus the waitress did not come back with more water i had to get it myself. I was litterally choking on the wasabi. If you want a good sushi place try either oragamis or trappers. Way better for what you get. read more
