I've watched restaurants come and go in that location for years and I'm glad there's finally something there worth staying. I first tried it about 4 weeks ago and have been back 6 times. I don't really care for the sandwiches but the mix or shawarma over rice is my jam. I can't eat it in a single sitting so for under $7 it's a damn good deal. I can feed my family of three by ordering two, which comes to less than we'd spend at McDonalds and obviously way more satisfying. Can't recommend this place enough. read more

Everything is always so fresh at hakuna. I've never had a bad experience with their food. Honestly I'd go as far to say that they have the best Halal around. Like other reviewers I thought we were going to be dining on some African cuisine tonight based off the name. Not very many options but it seem that's because they've perfected the 12 options they have. I got the Shwarma sandwhich (in a wrap) and my husband got the gyro and fries. The shwarma wrap was everything I wanted it to be the meat was well seasoned and it all blended together nicely! The Gyro was really good again the meat stole the show- and the fries!!!!! My family and I randomly came to this restaurant and we were pleasantly surprised! We've never tried falafel before, and they offered us, fresh, hot samples that were amazing. As a guy from New York City, I highly recommend this place. So much better than Halal Guys here in Chicago. They make everything fresh and you can taste the quality of the food they make. Super friendly staff and owners too. They will make sure your order is to your preference. Btw, this place is open until 2 am and not 2 pm everyday as what Yelp indicated as their closing time. Also it being called Hakuna Matata, I had to try it. Shout out to the 1995 Disney jams cd it was blasted from in those languishing high school days...Placing my order and the drive through told me I could have whatever i wanted for their "special customers" lol..I said okay cool. Ordered 2 chicken and rice plates and a side of falafel. While in the drive through, a head poked out the side door asking me if I wanted spicy sauce. I said sure and again was told I'm special and of course, for me. Bill was about $17 so very reasonable. Before I drove off I was complimented on my "gorgeous eyes". They already had me at Hakuna Matata, they really didn't need to try so hard. While my husband didn't find the story as amusing as myself, we found our meals to be flavorful and delicious. I come here at least 2x a week and this kid working today was absolutely disrespectful and disgusting w/ his attitude. Ordered hummus and falafel and was CHARGED FOR IT. It was not in the bag, i called and he said he would replace it. Got there, and he told me he wasn't replacing anything and that HE WAS OUT OF HUMMUS! The most ridiculous/petty thing I've ever encountered. Horrible customer service. I will be calling management tomorrow. Also, no receipt given to me kid was on his phone the whole time while at the window having a personal conversation/texting on his cellphone. Claimed he was the owner. NEVER AGAIN read more

I tried to order lunch for a large group of customers and their staff. A group of 25 that I needed delivered. I also have a hearing impairment and have to call with a special phone where the operator types to me. There is a delay after the person I am calling (about 10 seconds) for the operator to send what is said to me. I explained this three times. The guy hung up on me twice. I called back and told him that I really needed them to do the order. I was losing my patience as he was so rude. When I asked him if he wanted my business he said "no" and hung up on me.
