I even just went there today, which was probably my 5th or 6th time there. When I pulled up to the drive through, the speaker wasn't working so the gentleman came out to take my order. He wasn't wearing a mask and was within 6ft of my open window car. Despite me having a mask on, I was still very u comfortable. When I pulled up to the window, the same thing happened. The guy wasn't wearing a mask and though was actively trying to engage in conversation (good customer service), i was just so disappointed to see them both not following simple protocols. The menu is a picture menu so I got the chicken over rice place. Unfortunately, it came bathed in a white, creamy Mayo-like sauce which wasn't pictured on the menu. After spending over six hours in the ER with no end in sight, my wife and I were incredibly hungry. I was ready to hit the local Burger King at the end of the street but my wife saw this place and said she wanted to try it. I am sooo glad she did! She had the lamb with salad and I ordered the Shawarma sandwich, a side of falafel and decided to try the lentil soup. Damn! Wifey loved the salad. the shawarma is one of the best I've had in a long time and the lentil soup was perfect on this cold night. While I don't wish anyone a stay in the ER, I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a good Middle Eastern dish. I ordered the chicken and lamb mix over rice with a side of hummus and pita. I also ordered a large fry at the last minute. Everything was bursting with flavor and the food was hot. They give a fairly large portion for the price. I ate mine over the course of 2 days. My mother requested that I mention that the fries were deeeeelicious! lol They were very hot and crisped to perfection. I love middle eastern food. She isn't one to try new things, but after tasting the fries and learning that they serve gyros, she decided to give them a try sometime soon. Tasty, accommodating halal gem in Oak Lawn deserves 4.5+ stars. 5 stars for a tasty small business that has sincerely accommodated my needs more than once on occasion. For our first time, an employee gave us free sample falafels and drinks to complement a delicious meal. The second time I came without enough money for water, but to much of my surprise, I saw a surprise cold water bottle in my bag. As for food, I haven't been to many halal places in chicago, so I'm happy that oak lawn has one. Definitely a lot more tasty than the few counterparts in the center of chicago though. The Bismati rice is a little different than the ones I've had in Texas/NYC; less thin than usual. My favorite part is the lamb meat with the white sauce, and I always love a healthy serving of veggies for a decent price. Ok so I finally decided to give this place a try since a friend recommended it. I originally thought it was African food because of the name. However it's very similar to the famous Halal guys in NYC and now Chicago. Honestly the meat quality is much better than halal guys. Also, they offered free hot falafel which was delicious for the wait in the drive through. In the same location as Fatsos, Hakuna Matata is a new restaurant that is true to its roots offering a mix of American and Middle Eastern fast food. Friendly staff and quality service. The cashier gave me some falafel while I waited for my shawarma sandwich. The falafel was moist, but lacked some seasoning. The fry on it was closer to fried chicken then falafel that I've had in the past. It was their second day and the food took a long time to prepare. I'm sure this will get remedied after they have been open for a while and they get their sea legs. They packed the shawarma wrap with meat and put a white and hot sauce on it. Overall the sandwich was satisfying, but again it felt under seasoned. There are many Middle Eastern restaurants in the area. This isn't my favorite, but it's across the street from my work and I'll probably eat there often. read more
