All the amazing Yelp reviews convinced us to try Monapita. It was a hit! It's tiny, with just a few tables and unwrapped plastic utensils in open tubs, but the food was wonderful. My friend had the lamb gyro with a side of hummus. The lamb was tender and juicy, and the tzatziki was perfect. I wanted to order the chicken kabob platter, but only wanted one kabob (the menu says it comes with two). The very kind and friendly owner said "we will make it any way you want." I was in the mood for Mediterranean for lunch, and used Yelp to find this place. It did not disappoint! The restaurant is located in a shared parking lot with Michaels, Best Buy, and some other stores. There was ample parking, and the store front was well kept. The interior was EXTREMELY clean, which wins big bonus points for me. Where this place lost that 5th star for me was when I ordered my food to go- they just handed me the styrofoam container. I think they should've put the container in a plastic bag and included utensils as well as napkins. Not a huge deal I guess. I liked the fact that you can see exactly how they are preparing your food while you wait. The staff was friendly, the service was fast- but most importantly- the food was delicious. I ordered the sandwich combo: a chicken gyro with pita bread and hummus and a fountain beverage (green tea). The food was hot, flavorful and tastes fresh. The chicken was juicy and thoroughly cooked. While shopping in this little shopping complex we noticed a new ( to us, it's been here 3 months) Mediterranean place..... And since it was dinner time and we love Mediterranean food it seemed only right to stop in. We ordered the shawarma platter which came with chicken shawarma, pita, rice, salad and hummus and it was all excellent. I'm a big fan of cardamom and loved that both meat and rice has that distinctive, but not over bearing flavor, that comes with a light touch of cardamom. The husband and wife team working here were very nice and gracious. We are looking forward to going back to try several of the other things that peaked are interest on the menu ( Moroccan eggplant salad, beef shawarma, kofta, beef skewers, tabbouleh, baklava, and for the hubbie.... Turkish coffee). Often times Mediterranean lunch spots will be too salty, too greasy, or just too skeezy (1990s slang, look it up) Mona Pita is none of these making it a great lunch spot for the area. Freshly made and made right chicken and lamb gyros. I got the combo with half hummus, half babaghanouj with an iced tea for $9.74, you can get an option without hummus but with fries for a dollar less. Great lunch spot, although there may be a wait (one person working the day I went) and it could use some tidying up (tables wiped, beverage section organized). I'd come again for sure! read more

I came here upon good rating from the fellow yelpers. My husband and i ordered beef gyro with hummus and pita. Firstly, the meat was fantastically juicy and right off the grill. As for the rest, the flavors were alright and it didnt really outstand the gyros ive had before. It is an alright place if you havent had better. This place is amazing! Fantastic food for an affordable price. My friend and I have been there twice now, and the second time they remembered our orders from 2+ weeks ago! The Lebanese family that owns it is very friendly and charming. I got the falafel pita, which was delicious. I meant to take a picture, but when it arrived it smelled so good I had to start eating it right away. The interior is clean and well-lit, but there's also a patio area outside with cute umbrellas where you can eat. This is a good setup for large parties, plus there's a kid's menu for family convenience. Also be sure to try their desserts--the baklava is just right (I prefer the light flaky kind that doesn't drool honey down your shirt) and the cheesecake selection looks great. Ive been to a lot of great restaurants all around the world and I've been able to enjoy a variety of food from all kinds of cultures and that helps when being able to define authenticity and let me say MONA PITA is authentic as your going to get in Raleigh when it comes to middle Eastern cuisine. The food is so clean and filling it makes you want to try everything its better than fast food in the healthy category and price wise its your average 6 to 12 bucks and that's for quality clean food!! When it comes to customer service this family owned business truly exceeds the meaning of great they are very nice and welcoming always makes you feel at home or relaxed. Uhh ... definitely don't understand the 5-star reviews, given the other Middle Eastern/Mediterranean choices in this city. Menu is limited. I had a chicken kabob platter and it more closely resembled mall food court fare in composition than other places I've been. The salad was rather basic, and it was served with lots of rice (a cheap filler, which is why it features so prominently in food court platters), small pita, and hummus, all on a tiny plate. The chicken itself tasted like too much oregano. The cook was friendly but went out back to smoke with the door open after serving me, so smoke odor drafted through the entire place. Did not make me feel like lingering. Really sorry I made a special trip here. The food wasn't bad, just not remarkable enough to come here on purpose. I may have had way too high expectations when I saw all the raving 5 star reviews. My initial impression and my experience was no where close to that. The restaurant was not clean. There were dried spills around the self serve drink machine, and I noticed the spout of one of the dispensers was black with what looked like mold. Luckily I was drinking from my own water bottle. There were no utensils. All the plastic ware was in an open container that any and everybody just reached in and grabbed from. The cold display case had only a single tray of baklava in it, nothing else. My friend ordered one and it was frozen solid!! I ordered a chicken shawarma platter, my friend ordered beef kabobs. My chicken was not hot off the grill, it was cut into small pieces and very dried out. The beef was tender enough but had an "off" taste, my friend asked me to taste and I agreed. She did not keep eating it. The table tops were never bussed while we were there eating even though 2 diners left right after we arrived. Not impressed at all and do not intend to return. UPDATE: Right after I posted this review i was contacted by the Wake County Health Dept regarding my meal at Mona Pita. I was told by the health inspector diners that had eaten here had gotten very sick and they were following up with all they could get in touch with. I did not fall ill. Sorry to hear there were some not so lucky. read more
