Meh, this one was just OK. I've had a ton of authentic Xinjiang including a bunch in China as it's one of my favorite cuisines. Decided to come here after work with a couple of friends who work in the downtown Castro area. I felt like the flavors on the dishes we ordered were all off compared to what they should have been. The only thing that was very good was the yogurt. Fried naan with lamb was decent but honestly that one's hard to mess up. The big plate chicken -- too salty, not enough cumin, didn't add a good helping of red onion and bell pepper which is the classic requirement for this dish. Laghman came out tasting somewhat sour -- probably because of an overdose of vinegar added to the dish -- also not right. The smell of MSG is literally wafting through the entire restaurant from the moment you walk in too. Would not come back.

I really like Xinjiang/uyghur food because it mixes some Chinese influence with ingredients found in Arab countries. We were the first party when they opened at 5 pm and super excited to try this place after our former favorite - Sama in Newark closed during the pandemic. Food overall was really delicious and not overly salty. Unfortunately a lot of items on menu were out of stock so I hope they work on the sourcing issues that don't seem to affect their other locations. In terms of what we got, here's what I would rank from most to least favorite: 1) stir fried noodles (comes with beef) - the sauce is not spicy at all and fragrant. The noodles taste freshly made which made this a pleasure to eat 2) naan stir fried lamb - most naan were crispy on outside and soft on inside, meaning they were not stale. The lamb portion is on the smaller side and not as interesting but I could keep snacking on the naan part. 3) gosh naan - essentially lamb mincemeat pie, this flaky pastry had a nice, slightly sweet aroma and filled with nicely seasoned ground lamb. 4) roasted lamb (requested no spicy) - came with cumin dipping powder. Most pieces were tender but there were a few more chewier ones. I would like to try the lamb shank instead next time. We really wanted the tower of lamb skewers but they were not selling them this day. At other location I've had the skewers but they were way too spicy so I wanted to request no spicy. This dish is a different cut of meat. 5) stir fried beans - your typical crispy stir fried string beans but with a lot of garlic. As expected, service isn't the strongest suit as we needed to ask for refill of water pitcher and to chase the wait staff down for box and check. However, finally found a new go to Xinjiang food place so will return. Saw lots of people order whole fish so need to do that next time! Also wow, they had full house not too long after we started eating so it's a good sign.

I got interested in visiting the place when saw through the windows the tables with a sitting on the carpet. These are tables for 6+ groups only. It was very easy to order through the qr-code creating the group order for the table. We happened to come 30 minutes before closure and after 15 minutes after ordering where only one person out of the group received their plate, we have been asked to pay upfront. The food came after approx. 10 minutes after only. The quality was okay, many options in the menu were out of stock.

Came at night with my fiance. Had just played table tennis and so I was ravenous. We decided to try this as it's close to our house, and stands out a lot from the other food options available on castro. The interior of the restaurant is pretty nice- the utensils are gold plated (for some reason), and tables all have paper mats. The service folks are very well dressed. We interacted with 2 guys and 2 ladies. We ordered 3 dishes in total. The first 2 dishes came reasonably fast. StirNan chicken: this was mindblowing. We love spicy, and the fried spicy nan and chicken were incredible; chicken was juicy, nan was crispy like tofu. 5/5 would get again. Mapo tofu: man the tofu was super silky. Not blocky like regular tofu. The seasoning was also amazing, great spice, and meat was good, as well as sauce. 5/5 would get it again. Now our last dish, it took literally 30 minutes to get. The servers forgot about this order, then when it did come (after we asked), the guy servers almost gave it to the wrong table... flat noodle stir fry: dish was too salty. Hard to fix that. Flavor was ok and noodle was QQ but I've had better. Portions are generally...big? Not sure how other folks had small dishes but every dish we saw was huge. I guess the noodles were the smallest. Overall, a solid trip and a 4* review. If they fixed their noodle's seasoning and fixed the service, it could be a 5.

Came here with a party of 9 for a late Sunday lunch upon my friend's recommendation for authentic xinjiang cuisine. It wasn't too crowded, so we got seated in 5-10 mins after we chose to sit at the more decorative tables (which come with a 20% gratuity FYI) since we were already large enough for gratuity charge. Our waitress was pretty patient in explaining the menu and taking orders, which you can either do with a QR code or with the server. Food came out relatively fast, starting with some lamb and beef entrees and then some shareable appetizers. Portions were decent, the apps came with 4 servings (like the stuffed naan and the baked meat buns) though the food does tend to be more oily. I especially liked the knife cut noodles and so we added on a tomato fish hotpot with a side of noodles to dip in the sauce. I'd give this place more of a 4.5/5 because I felt it was somewhat pricey for what you get - the tomato fish was $50+ and the entrees are around $20, so our per head cost ended up being $30+. But my friend who recommended it really liked the food. service was good, and it's a cool experience to eat around a low table so I'm glad I got to check it out!

We tried this place not too long ago and it seemed to have just opened. There was a short line for seating on a Saturday afternoon around lunch and the place was popular on Castro. The menu for this place was a bit limited and it seemed like every dish was a slightly variation of one another. We got the lamb stir fry with naan(?) and a noodle dish. The noodles were quite spicy and we couldn't really finish them because of how spicy they were. Everyone seemed to be getting the same thing so we thought we would order the same. While the dishes were flavorful (cumin!), they all tasted quite similar and they were also a bit too greasy for our liking.

    Lambs and naan, bad

Service was a bit messy and slow even on a quiet Tuesday night. Food was just mediocre, we had the stirred fried green bean, it was okay The lamb naan was really bad, naan was tasteless and hard. There's more naan than the lambs meat. Overall the dishes were small portion, made it kind of pricey.

Very sad - This restaurant is closed. They have not updated their website. Drove all the way from SF yesterday and it's closed. Looks like a new restaurant will be coming soon.

I got the lamb skewers and the stir fried lamb noodles. Service was good, but orientation of the entrance probably makes it awkward for the staff. Ambiance is quiet, gets a bit busy on fridays. Cumin-y goodness, noodles have a good texture, not to greasy, lamb has a nice soft texture and isn't too chewy or gamey

Came at a Saturday around 1PM. the place was 70% empty. All the food were mediocre: Homemade yogurt: fine ($6.98 before tax) Super Spice Fish with added naan: very flavorful, but the fish was too firm. The naan was unremarkable. ($64.97 before tax) a bit too pricy Cold yellow noodle lamb kebab: I liked the lamb but not the cold noodle ($19.98 before tax) Service was good.

Food is pretty decent and service very fast, especially the lamb leg with rice, very tasty.

We started with the beef dumplings: SO flavorful and juicy! We got these entrees -Mongolian Beef: tender, veggies were a great consistency, not spicy but strong Szechuan flavor! -Stir fry noodles: VERY flavorful, very large portion size - shared with the table, beef was tender, not very spicy, which I enjoyed because I could taste all the other flavors, not too saucy which was perfect for this dish -laghman: good dish for someone who likes a light loose sauce They gave us yogurt cups after dinner on the house. Homemade yogurt- very high quality taste Seating was comfortable! Prayer space available Staff were super nice and helpful! Service was great!

This location was much more peaceful compared to the Palo Alto location. I stopped by on a Saturday evening, and there were only a couple tables that were occupied. I will say I feel like the portion sizes here are noticeably smaller than those at the Palo Alto location. This might be because all of the orders are packed to-go, so maybe there's less space for food? For instance, the thali from the Palo Alto location includes a side salad, which was not included in my order here. The other sides (pickled salad and daal lentil), along with the entree, were also significantly smaller here. The prices are the same, so I do think the Palo Alto dishes are more worth it.

TLDR: Excellent Fried Chicken!…read more I was just chatting with my friend about picking up Chik-Fil-A for dinner one night, and he suggested Chicken G. There's one in Fremont, but also on in Mountain View, which isn't too far from me. So on a different night, I decided to give this place a try. Short answer: it's REALLY good! Long answer: It's a very very small place. It's got that 80's vibe to it... it's like Falafel Drive-In but with chicken! The staff was nice... although it seemed like there was only 1 front-of-the-house ( I couldn't see in the back). And he was doing EVERYTHING... preparing the food, packaging it up, taking orders.... And it wasn't like the place was super busy at 7:30p on a Thursday. In fact, no one was in front of me, but I still had to wait 5 minutes or so for him to take my order. But finally the order was fired up, and he immediately told me it will take about 15 minutes, because everything is made fresh. Nice! I kinda lost track doom-scrolling, so I peeked my head up every once in a while. I guess he thought I was being impatient, but he assured me, 5 more minutes... Eventually, he called me over, and I took the thing home. Keep in mind, with traffic... it took about 30 min to get home. So the food was getting a little cool. But it was still VERY crunchy, and tasty. My wife immediately took a bite and said it was SO GOOD. She had the 2 tenders and a side (french fries), while I had the chicken burger. The burger was HUUUUGE. I yielded and got a knife to cut the thing in half so I could eat it properly. Even though it was 30 min... the chicken was still super crispy and had a nice satisfying crunch. It blew CFA out of the water, tbh. Tho I still love CFA! Anyway, this place is really really good. It does 1 thing and does it super well. I'd like to try it again, but eat it there fresh and see if that makes a difference. As it stands, I'm struggling to think of a place better than this.
