Had a situation--on the day of my home sale closing, i went to lockup the house for the new buyers and found that my sliding glass door lock was broken. I called Half Price unlocks and immediately Joe picked up. He said he understood my situation and sent Josh out within the hour who did an amazing job. He was very friendly, professional, and competent. Before calling Half Price unlocks, I called another business who tried to charge me $1700. Half price unlocks charged me $490 for same day service in a pinch. Had them replace my deadbolt that kept sticking and made it a pain to unlock/lock our front door. They provided a quick response to my service request, were able to give a basic diagnosis from text messages of my issue, and send a tech down within a reasonable amount of time. The tech was very courtesy and well kept, as well as polite and knowledgeable. He went above and beyond to replace our deadbolt with a new Kwikset HALO Touchscreen WiFi enabled deadbolt. This month I contacted this company for the specific purpose of replacing a lock on my new mail box so THAT THE MAIL CARRIER COULD UNLOCK THE BOX and take my mail. I had been told by the carrier that she could not unlock the box. The response was quick and the lock replaced. But the carrier could not open the box. The reason was extremely simply, NO LOCKSMITH WILL HAVE ACCESS TO LOCKS OR KEYS FOR ANY MAILBOX per the lady that I later talked with from the post office. The reason was very simple, giving them access and installing it on my box would give me access to every locked mail box in the entire country. That is certainly something that any locksmith should know. I should have been told right away but was not. I was charged $170 + for work that should have never been done and I should expect that all locksmith companies would certainly be aware of this. I do not think that installing a bogus lock on my box to be ethical in the slightest and a good sign of a company to not do business with under any conditions. They were asked for a refund and have not replied. read more

Joe showed up quickly and completed the job without issue. I asked to pay in advance, but he declined to accept payment, and didn't discuss price. After the job was completed, he informed me that the price was going to be about 4 times the cost of completely replacing everything that was rekeyed. No issues with the quality of his work, and I expected to pay a little more for the nature of the situation, however the price was ridiculous, and borderline shady to not discuss before charging someone like that. Would've easily been 5 star had the guy been a little up front about what he planned to charge. Lesson learned.
