It was 9 o clock on a Sunday before closing time and the bartender was mopping this disgusting water across the floor and walking all in it, getting the ends of her pants dirty. Notice trash in the corner against the door. I could not believe they were cleaning like this right before customer eyes. In addition, I ordered the filet mignon, which was one of the blandest, driest cuts of beef I've ever had. The chuck eye I get from Kroger was better. I previously left a positive review when I was not sitting at the bar area, but after this experience, I highly doubt I will be coming back. read more

Oh my goodness, we were pleasantly surprised by all the food we ordered. Being from NOLA we weren't expecting it to be like home. The crab dip appetizer was as so good. The crab claw appetizer was so so tasty. My 7 year old tried to eat them all! My husband ordered the seafood pot pie and let me tell you it was incredibly delicious. The crust on the top was so buttery that I wanted to eat the whole thing myself!!! It was rich and the portion size was perfect. The kids chicken was flavorful and my son enjoyed it. It's been a while since I've been to Half Shell Oyster House, Flowood. Last time was pretty good from what I remember. So I decided to return again. My friend and I enjoyed it and will definitely go back. He had oysters and steak said they were awesome (not pictured). My dinner is below. Overall (4/5) Food Plating Service Envrionment Food: Overall they have a great unique menu focused on seafood. I appreciate that they don't go all over the place and try to offer other traditional dishes, they are straight up seafood. Appetizer: Tuna and Crab Stack Yellowfin tuna, crabmeat, and avocado tossed with Asian spices. Garnished with soy glaze, sriracha lime mayonnaise and sesame seeds. Served with wonton chips. -- this did not let me down! It tasted every bit a amazing as it sounds (looks)! The tuna was fresh, it was perfectly chilled, and the spice/flavor was on point! I didn't leave a lick on the plate. Entree and sides: Redfish Orleans Blackened redfish topped with Gulf shrimp sauteed in their original New Orleans style smoky Cajun sauce. Topped with lump crabmeat and Parmesan cheese. -- it was delicious but the smoky sauce was more spicy than smoky. Asparagus with Gorgonzola Butter (up charge $2) --do NOT pay to up charge for the Gorgonzola butter, unless they decide to serve it with a slice of lemon. I don't trust them to know that the tartness of the Gorgonzola cheese needs acid to cut it. I used my lemon from my redfish to fix the fish and it tasted good, but it's not worth $2. The mark up is overwhelmingly high with little payoff. Cheese Grits --not much to say here. They were good cheese grits. Nothing special. Nothing bad. They did however leave a little dry taste in my mouth after so I wonder what they added, (do they use powder cheese so it doesn't thicken?) or was it the type of grits? It's clear the entree was the star. Drinks: Watermelon Splash Made with Grey Goose, Bacardi, Watermelon liqueur and a specil mix of juices. Served with your choice of salt or sugar rim. --I loved it! it did taste like watermelon and it's definitely a great summertime drink that paired perfectly with my tuna and crab tower appetizer. Service: We didn't start well. But we ended well, hence the 4 stars. There were about 4 people at hosting. The manager I assume was NOT friendly to staff or customers. He was more, military. He even proceeded to loudly correct the staff for seating a 4 party at a 6 top when a 6 top was waiting (the 4 top arrived first however and had been waiting longer) in front of ALL the customers in the lobby including the ones who were left waiting due to their mistake. He never greeted customers. He never smiled. I'd hate to be in his army! Maybe I was for a few moments ‍ I was seated within 15 minutes and I had a special request for a window seat, so I think that was good (maybe military works for efficiency but not for morale). The guy who sat me was so great. He said "Jennie... we're ready for you." Like he knew me. Made me feel very welcome after the tyrant I had to listen and watch from the front. My server (sorry I forgot her name) was sweet and great at checking on me regularly. In the beginning she mistook my intentions for asking for less alcohol in my drink (she said "it won't be any cheaper" and that took me aback because I knew that and I'm not a cheapskate) but I let it go. Maybe there are people who do that and think it will be cheaper. I just don't want my face to feel like it's on fire. She made the entree recommendation, it was a personal recommendation and I love those! Overall she made the device a great experience. The 4 stuck for a couple of reasons. The tyrant from the front and the other "managers" running around. I saw two. I believe the best restaurants are the ones where the managers talk to customers, check on their experience and make them leave going "WOW!" One female manager walked around like it was her worst day ever (I get it, it's a tough industry, but you can't let your customers know), and the other one, a guy in a nice suit with a jovial smile didn't say a word to anyone. Managers ask all the time, "why didn't that customer tell me about their experience before taking to social media about how bad it was?" THIS IS WHY! You weren't approachable in the restaurant. It's not a customer's job to make sure you check on them. It's not a customer's job to ensure the quality of their experience. It's yours. On that note I had an amazing idea! You know how servers give their names, wouldn't it be kind of amazing if they also asked for ours and then used them? That's next level! Environment: 4 stars because the place, menus, etc could use some really good dusting. The window sills next to tables especially. read more

Ate there last night. Excellent. Really appreciated the Covid spacing. Every other booth was blocked and seemed like half of the tables had been removed. All the wait staff observed proper mask wearing. GO THERE WITH CONFIDENCE! Now about the food : The raw gulf oysters were excellent. Healthy, plump meaty, just like expect them on the gulf coast. My wife and I eat here fairly often. It's usually very good. It's expensive, but good. I don't mind paying for quality. Today however I was very disappointed. I usually have fried oysters. For $28 I got three good oysters and a lot of little crunchy pieces. "Oyster chitlins." To be fair everything else was fine. I wasn't in the mood to send them back so I ate what they bought. The really disappointing part was this is an upper end restaurant. I would not expect a quality restaurant to serve this plate to a table. Nice atmosphere! We were seated in about 30 minutes. Not bad for 6 on a Saturday. Service was pleasant. I am allergic to ShellFish and waitress made sure my Redfish was cooked properly. My husband said the oysters were one of the best he has had. I had the pecan crusted Redfish and Okra. My husband had the special of Salmon. The entrees were slightly fishy. I have family that stays in Lexington, the first thing I said was I wanted to stay in flowood so I can come back and eat here. It's so good!!! Ordered jumbo fried shrimp and some bread and butter. The shrimp were medium, not jumbo and over cooked. It came with hush puppies that were the size of the shrimp. The bread that was served was dry white bread with ice cold butter. Not impressed. read more

I'll start by saying.... I LOVE the food here. My family loves the food as well.... whenever my boyfriend is in town from work, we always visit this one in particular. Also.... I've had great experiences dining in this one as well as other locations. I didn't want to cook, nor did I want to go out to eat so, we decided on takeout. I called in my order before leaving work.... considering how busy they usually are; 40 minutes in advance. It was a huge order and upon seeing the waiter with a very large bag.... I peaked inside. After seeing the amount of containers in the bag , I decided NOT to check my order. BIG MISTAKE. And I'm truly blaming MYSELF because this had happened before. That encounter involved a salmon w/ 2 sides, a salad and a dozen oysters. After arriving home which was 50 minutes away.... I realized the oysters were missing. So, last night.... I should've reminded myself of that incident. But, no I was tired and decided not to.... and to mention I spent a large amount on this order.... not saying that all orders shouldn't be treated equally but, a 135 dollar order?!?!?! And did I mention.... I tipped the waiter after asking if he double checked my order.... his reply yes ma'am. AGAIN.... I am blaming MYSELF. After deciding that I did not want to drive back to the restaurant.... I called. 3 times to be exact. #1. I told the hostess the problem and was transferred to my waiter.... put on hold for a manager. #2 called and asked for a manager, directly.... put on hold. #3 called again and asked for a manager and was asked for my name.... which is VANESSA. Put on hold. I'll try again today. The problem with the order was missing items ... always oysters and salads.... so maybe since the oysters are prepared at the bar, they should be picked up before bagging the order from the kitchen. Awful food and terrible service. Last food I got from there to go had paper wadded up in the potatoes and something I never identified in the salad. The pastors were fried rock hard. Awful food that I threw out. Plenty of staff on hand that seemed to ignore me. Won't be going back there ever unless they get responsible managers. Oh yeah and the bar was sticky and dirty where I sat to wait on my food. Worst experience ever. Hot mess of a place. Why can't people work and treat customers like they would want to be treated? Not anything else to say , but this good restaurant took a bad wrong turn. Fried Oysters were burnt, potatoes were grey and had wadded up paper in them, salad had unidentifiable object in it. I entered and was greeted promptly. The bar was full, so I waited for a table. The waitress was not good. The table was dirty. Apparently, debris got back on it after the paper was changed. Pictures The plates and silverware had a film on them, something is definitely wrong with the washing equipment. Pictures.The menu had stuff all over it. They haven't been cleaned in a while. Pictures . Sweet tea was soured rank, so I swapped it for a soda. I order raw oysters and they were promptly delivered and good. I order a side salad and it was flat, not rotten but like it was left out and got warm and flat then refrigerated again. I ordered shrimp and grits. Gross. Seven over cooked shrimp, grits ok, cooked bacon topping good, but this boiled bacon and sauce was gross. Who eats fatty boiled bacon. The whole dish was stinky. I went to the restroom and it was even a wreck, broken loud fans and sticky stuff everywhere, all over the doors and pictures. I left there feeling gross. It's not worth trying g again. I was in town for business and wanted a nice place for dinner with my team. Half Shell came highly recommended and understandably so...it was fantastic!! From the atmosphere to the service and food, everything was fantastic! I don't typically like oysters, but I tried the charbroiled oysters from the sampler platter and they were delicious! (I've possibly been converted!) I ordered the shrimp & grits for my entree and it was excellent. Right amount of smoke and the grits were creamy perfection! I had the grilled asparagus as my side and that was delicious, too. The table ordered a few desserts to share. The wait was 45 minutes. Seems a bit excessive to eat anywhere, but after being seated we understood why. Our waitress Denise was very nice and professional, but extremely slow. The atmosphere was nice, the oysters were great, as well as the shrimp poboy and seafood pasta. The seafood platter was okay, but would have been better grilled because the food was over fried very dark and almost burnt. Being from the gulf coast, the cooks need to learn how to fry seafood.
