my wife and i really like the "halfway house" We affectionately call it this partially due to the guys sitting at the bar who look like they belong at one and partly because it is so darn cheap! don't come here for the ambiance unless you think a cross between the 99, ground round, and multiple other kitschy restaurants qualifies as high class dining. do come here because you get all the salty popcorn you want to go with the cheap beer. the food itself is pretty good - decent burgers, fries, salads, and surprisingly, a yummy tuna melt. focus on ordering basic dishes and stear clear of that 1 lb hot dog - unless you want to spend the night making dirty jokes about it. we eat here pretty often - but we do need to pace ourselves. i think if you went more than once every two weeks the whole salty popcorn / neighborhood drunks at the bar thing will get old fast. read more

I come way too much . . . love the $7 for 7 specials every month. About 85% of the time my food is great. Every now and then I get an off dish, but in general the food here is what you expect. I love the popcorn at the table and the pink lemonade is super good. The service here is great. All the waitresses take good care of their tables and have a smile on their face. This place used to be really good. In the last year or so thing s have been changed for the worse. The potato skins are made differantly now and really arn't as good anymore. The Burgers arn't that good either anymore. The last one I had tasted like a piece of charcoal. Had dinner last nite, such a good experience. Ordered the Watertown burger, cooked perfectly medium. The jalapeño bacon had a nice kick, balanced by the sweet barbecue sauce and cheese. Our servers Jen and Nia couldn't do enough for us and loved the team work that even involved the manager, Jose. We hadn't been here for sometime and have to comment on the gleaming wood floors and other subtle updates..,still cozy but now super fresh. We will definitely be back. read more

Honestly this place is like some kind of a sick joke. The food is by far the worst of not only everything in town, but anything ive ever eaten. These people literally cannot make a grilled cheese(current special) taste good to a drunk person. This may sound preposterous but it is all too true. This is a drink up bar only. This is your local pub style restauranty ( I'd almost say dive) but its really good. No place is perfect and once I had a meal that was not great when we did take out. However, overall the food is really good, prices are super great! They have a $7 menu with 7 items and the value is unbelieveable. Free popcorn, lots of Tv's and even game nights ( although I dont recommend going there on those nights) I enjoy it and I go with my girlfriend or with the guys to watch the game! always a good time! read more

I've gotten food twice since the change in management, and I've definitely noticed the changes - and it wasn't for the better. Firstly, a few weeks ago, I got a take-out order of buzz wings, and we were very disappointed with it. The wings were smaller in size, and not only was there not enough buzz sauce, but also the sauce looked and tasted different from usual. Then today, I went in for lunch and ordered a burger. I was craving their fries and was disappointed to get a plate full of well-done fries that were more overcooked than I would like. I asked the waitress if this was something new under the new management, and she told me that it depends on multiple factors, including the potatoes and the oil that day, as to why they are sometimes darker. She asked if I wanted another order, and I didn't want to seem like nusance so I didn't get a new order. However, she was kind enough to have the kitchen make me a new order of fries that looked like how they used to look, like a golden fry not brown. She put them into a togo box for me. The burger itself was okay. I also got a free order of onion rings from their calendar promotion. Overall, I haven't been too impressed with the food since the change in management but at least the waitstaff are always friendly and helpful! read more

The worst turkey club and French fries that a restuarants has ever offered me. Hard to rate because I like the food, staff and service at the Canton location, and I was going to bring the whole family over there for my birthday but when I sent an email about why I didnt get a coupon for the free birthday meal I've been getting for years, marketing person told me I was out of luck, new system coming in a few months that would have that back again, but for now, I was out...seemed kind of silly for her to for go a $60-$70 tab to make a customer happy with a $10 comp. Alright, that's it. Been a fairly loyal, if not all that frequent visitor (Watertown) for quite a while. Starting with the menu change a year or two ago, noticed a slow steady decline in quality of food (leaving menu changes aside..not happy there either). Heard rumors that there was a management change. Not sure if it's true, but sure seems to fit the results of the final product. After last nights meal of my wifes fish, and her spending the night purging it in not so pleasant ways, we are done with you! The food seems to have dropped off here. I typically came in every other week for lunch during work. I stopped going because a few months back the food quality dropped off. The usual good bergers were not cooked right.....the wings were over cooked. I dont know if they changed management or the chef or what. This place is not as good as it used to be. This is a pretty standard place, nothing really strikes me as special about it, nonetheless just about every Tuesday that I have dodgeball I'll show up here for a large pint of draft beer and hang out with my team while others participate in trivia. It's a good place to hang out but gets pretty crowded, especially on a Tuesday, never really had anything to eat except for the pub pizza one week which was ok, and they had a special on it, I think if you order three you got one for free. read more

The burger selection is decent and the quality of burger is predictable here. Some days average some days good but never poor. Staff is attentive but not smothering. Bartenders seem energetic enough and MOSTLY friendly. Hit this place over john Brewers for sure. And hey guys, the remodel looks amazing. Much more open and updated. Check out the fried pickle chips. I love this place. I come at least once a week for dinner and drinks and can't think of another place that has such affordable options for both food and drinks. There is a special drink of the week that is a liquor you can get any way you want that is only $3.50 and there is free popcorn while you wait for your food. The food itself is good and of large portion size. The wings are great which is hard to find in New England. The servers are fun and, if you become a regular, they make you think you're in a small cozy town with their friendliness and memory for what you like. I bring friends here and would recommend the place to anyone looking to get good food for a great price. They also have five other locations. read more

Avoid the Watertown, MA location at all costs. A friend and my brother went to this location just before 11pm. There was no one in the lcoation. The bartender could be heard saying as they walked in I told you someone would come in. Then he accused my friend with a speech impediment of being drunk. My friend did not have any drinks. They continued to say he was drink and asked my brother and my friend with the speech impediment to leave. So apparently Halfway Cafe condones not serving someone with a speech disability. This is why this business has gone done so bad. From the rude management to employees to the horrible changes to the menu But their choosing to discriminate against someone with a speech impediment is the final straw.
