We went a little out of our way to stop here after reading a review calling the onion rings "the kind you dream about." We ordered a burger, chicken sandwich, and the onion rings. The food was good overall, but it didn't leave me dreaming of it. For us, it probably wouldn't be a place we'd specifically make a special trip back for, but we still enjoyed the experience. Great place to visit when you're in this area off the beaten path but if you go, it's a cool little area to bring a little ones. The food is really good burgers are good. I liked that they use grass fed beef. The only thing that I prefer is bigger condiments amount that they give you for the salad they gave you this teeny mini ranch and I had to ask for a couple same with the ketchup if the portion size were bigger or give people a squeeze bottle I think it's a little bit easier because it's like a self serve service restaurant so you buy your food and then you sit down it's not a service restaurant but they bring and come by your table for service so it's a little confusing. I think they need to pick one of the other in my opinion cause I kept on standing up to go ask for stuff and then she came by the table to ask if we need anything it was a little bit confusing. read more

Super casual, family and dog-friendly spot with a limited, but very tasty menu! Probably the best Korean cauliflower "wings" I've ever had - crunchy, sweet and spicy. The meat eaters in my family enjoy the Rock Burger with fries or crunchy onion rings. My first time here I went for the delicious mushroom tacos but the second time around they had a very tasty broccoli Caesar salad that I hope they offer again. The Bahn Mi tots were ok; we tried them for the novelty, but probably will not order them again. The dessert menu seems to change often, but our first time there we had an amazing key lime pie type dish that was incredible. I'm way late to update this review. We've been here several times since our initial visit in 2020 or 2021, and it's been consistently excellent. The burgers are incredible, their specials always look delicious, the service is very friendly, and the vibe is great. Love the outdoor patio and lack of cell service for Verizon (PLEASE unclip my electronic "leash"). The confusion around ordering is no longer a thing- you order at the counter inside. The gochujang cauliflower "wings" are still beyond to-die-for, and they actively support other amazing local businesses. I'd definitely recommend a trip out! I've been wanting to go to Halfway Station for quite some time. I signed up for their concert email list and decided to go on a Saturday evening. I love the location, nestled in the mountains between Atascadero and Morro Bay. The parking lot is large, but if there's overflow, you can park in front of the restaurant on the side of Morro Road. - The location has indoor seating as well as multiple patios for outdoor seating. I would've liked to see a few umbrellas on the outdoor tables, although some of the tables are located under an awning while still being considered an outdoor table. There is also a large grass covered space where you can lay a blanket and have a picnic if you desire. Some of this lawn area is shaded. It's located by the stage. - I ordered food at the register and I appreciate this type of service model. I purchased the blood orange soda and falafel plate. I asked them to remove the bread. I appreciated that register attendant informed me that my falafel came with french fries. The french fries themselves were delicious as well as the vegetables that came with the falafel. The falafel was not as tender as I hoped. By no means was it dry, but the outside and inside were less moist than I would've liked. I also would've liked more tahini sauce. I thought the pricing was a bit high. A 25% mark down on both items would have been a little more appropriate. However, I like that all of the items including the silverware, plates, glassware, and napkins were plastic free. Thank you for caring about the environment. read more

Located on Highway 41, the Halfway Station is conveniently located in between Atascadero and Morro Bay. The Halfway Station has ample parking as well as a ton of outdoor and indoor seating. There is shaded and non-shaded areas to sit and overall the outdoor seating venue is just fantastic! They have a little stage outside as well, in which they do live music. The indoor seating has ample seating as well as a large bar area. The overall vibe is just very relaxed and welcoming and the employees are extremely helpful and friendly! They have a variety of local alcoholic beverages on the menu in which we ordered the Bristol's cider (one of our local favorites)! The menu is comprised of mainly burgers, sandwiches, and salads, as well as some great options for apps - our personal favorite were the cheese curds. Ordered the station burger (added avocado) and Bella burger (with meat), both with fries, and they were absolutely delicious! Our food came out relatively quick and hot! So glad I finally tried the Halfway Station as I was very impressed and will surely be back again soon! read more

The menu didn't sound great and I didn't want to spend the high prices for food that didn't sound good, so I ordered fries so I wouldn't make my husband eat alone. This is a great restaurant. The menu consists of different types of hamburgers, sandwiches, and salads. The hamburgers are top quality and come with fries or salad. The hamburgers and sandwiches I have eaten were excellent. Often there is some type of special added to the menu. They are always different and add a delicious entree to the menu. The specials often sell out early. Many of us locals come every week to enjoy the specials. There are often house made desserts that are outstanding. If you have young children, there's an outside eating area where they can run and play. We love this place. We go there once or twice a week. read more

One of the best places on the Central Coast. This hidden gem is on the 41, between Downtown Atown and Morro Bay. This renovated garage/barn turn modern ranch chic is the home to a fresh/natural/modern culinary experience. Once you enter you are greeted and have menu's on a little table at the door. When you're ready, you go up and order. I ordered the Rock Burger (Beyond Meat and no Bacon), comes with fries, the Bahn Mi Tots and Beer Battered Onion Rings. The Rock Burger is what you want. Beautiful fluffy Brioche bun from Back Porch Bakery, Central coast creamery blue cheese bringing the funk/creamy/saltness to cut through the burger, the caramelized onions for sweetness, the fresh mixed greens for that earthy bite, and whole grain mustard sauce for a little more acidity. The fries are done to salty, crispy, yet soft inside perfection. The Beer battered onion rings are served the a beautiful house made ranch and bbq sauce. Cooked perfect, just wish there was more. And the Star of the show, Bahn Mi Tots. The mix of tots, fresh vegetables, creamy sauce, soft meets crunch, vinegar balanced by fatty creaminess of the sauce, gives you full Umami! Just an awesome concept, that works to the fullest! The power went out while we were there with our friends from out of town and instead of kicking us out, they brought over candles (which was made by someone dinning in at the time) and asked if we needed anything. FINALLY made it over to Halfway Station, eager to see what everyone's been raving about. Was told our call-in order would be ready in about 15 minutes, so paid our tab with the sweet cashier and took a few minutes to walk around. There were about a dozen patrons milling about outside, talking, playing games, enjoying the sun. Meanwhile, the aroma from the kitchen was fantastic. Anticipation building.... Saw there was now a different cashier and asked her about our order. She asked if we'd already paid and I told her yes, we had. She went back in, then came back out with our bagged order. When I went to take it -- and in front of other people that were standing there -- she told me she'd checked with the people inside and no one had taken our payment. I told her a different cashier had taken our payment just 10 minutes earlier. She said, "Oh. Here you go", and handed me the bag. Well that was unpleasant. I guess it was just a case of right hand/left hand, but I really recommend they check their register and receipts before telling a customer they've been less than honest. Anyway ... we'd both ordered the Cayucos Sausage Co. Sandwich and fries. Both were good. Nothing especially noteworthy, but good. Hopefully this was a singular experience and the next one will be better. In any case, we'll be sure to let you know. And, in all likelihood, we'll probably try them again later this summer to sample some of their other highly-recommended menu offerings, check out the inside when it opens up again, enjoy the live music, and get up on the dance floor to shake off the last experience. read more

It took a good 40 mins to get the food, and when we got it, it looked great. Began eating the burger and all you could taste was very lightly seasoned meat and some pickle. Could not taste the bread, sauce, grilled onions, cheese, etc. Plus it was extremely greasy.
