Was pretty excited to try this place after knowing about it for the last 4 or 5 years. Finally went and it was weak, not sure if all the 5 star reviews are from locals or what. It took a good 40 mins to get the food, and when we got it, it looked great. Began eating the burger and all you could taste was very lightly seasoned meat and some pickle. Could not taste the bread, sauce, grilled onions, cheese, etc. Plus it was extremely greasy. With it being more than $20 a person, no way I would go back here or recommend it to anyone, they missed the mark by a long shot in my book. read more

The Rock Burger was, by far, THE best burger I've ever had! Dined here for lunch with my husband and 11 month old daughter. We shared the bahn mi tots (also bomb!), and each got a burger (my husband got the special, which was called the A-Town Burger). Both of us were in awe. Food was fresh, hot, flavorful, and of quality. Good selection of beers and other drinks. Atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, staff were friendly. Kid-friendly restaurant with coloring pages, crayons, and high chairs for the littles. Fun menu with some great choices. Good beer on tap. A little pricey but not too bad for this area. Love the outdoor patio and space for kids to goof around. Service was excellent, had to wait a bit, but they were busy. Food was perfect. Fig jam chicken sandwich with bacon paired with an IPA in a cold night on the patio was sooo good. We decided to get away from the crazy tourist areas in Morro Bay and try this hidden gem. All I can say is WOW!! Quality farm to table food, craft beer, and nice wines. We were lucky enough to drop in on a night when the house band was playing so we had dinner and great entertainment. If you are heading down the 41 between Atascadero and Morro Bay don't miss this great spot for food and fun! Heirloom tomato salad is off the hook and you have to try the Korean Cauliflower Hot Wings!! I took a month in Morry Bay during April and May of 2019 and Highway Station was one of the enriching experiences I encountered while exploring the central coast. Traveling on a motorcycle (which I towed across country!) and on my way inland, Highway Station entered my viewscreen and piqued my curiosity. Being from the Right Coast it was unusual to encounter an emporium of this type on a back country two lane. Naturally, it piqued my interest, so I pulled in the parking area and dismounted next to other bikes, one of which was a 1970s 750 Hondamatic with a sidecar - no kidding! Entering what turned out to be a converted building lined with repurposed redwood wall treatments, two story ceilings, and a large counter I placed my once vibrating bottom on a stool and was greeted by a delightful, personable young woman (I was 71 at the time!). Perusing the menu, I opted for a vegetable sandwich on sourdough bread and iced tea. Sorry, no wine or alcohol at that hour and had more riding to accomplish. The sandwich was excellent, the tea refreshing but most of all the staff/owners were truly a joy to encounter. They were curious why I had traveled across country to visit the central coast. I advised I had been to California many times but never spent an extended period in their state. I finally had the time and wherewithal to do so and felt Morro Bay would be a great home base to experience it and especially riding a motorcycle. In the event, I departed with my appetite and thirst satisfied, and having had some great conversation with interesting folks. After all what is exploring all about, right? I would encourage anyone on the 41 going to or from Morro Bay and Atascadero to give the Halfway Station a try. You won't be disappointed. Mike Haggarty West Chester, Pa PS. Absolutely the best hamburgers. They have a range of types of hamburgers all of them sound good. My wife had the Banh Mi burger and I had the Bella. Both were outstanding. The French fries were fresh and hot. They also have a pretty extensive wine list you can order by the glass or the bottle. All in all, it was a remarkable experience and delicious. The best part was the cheesecake. I have had cheesecake all over the world but this was outstanding and exceptional. The price of the burgers ranges from $15-$18. You get fries or a salad with your burger. The outside dining area is quite pretty. Also, both inside and outside are handicapped accessible. I heartily recommend stopping there. read more

Our neighborhood watering hole family run business with lovely grassy lawn and garden in the back with picnic table seating and kid friendly play areas. Dog friendly is a plus for us too. We love the station burger with the brioche bun, the cauliflower wings, bon mi tots, beet salad and the beyond burger (although I always sun the brioche bun for the vegan bun). Fossil Point Rose is our go to local wine and there's always a selection of seltzer's and kombucha in addition to a great beer selection. So nice we came here twice (during a 3 day getaway)! Recommended by our HipCamp hosts we stopped in on a Thursday evening about an hour before closing. We could see they were sweeping and no one else was in there, but we strolled in anyway and were greeted by happy, friendly faces! The staff are so lovely and gave us recommendations for local hikes to do during our stay. Food-wise the place is defo worth coming back to. We started with the Korean cauliflower wings, which I could pretty much each everyday. Thin crispy coating on tenderly cooked cauliflower with a spicy sweet sauce. The cooling dipping sauce compliments the Korean sauce perfectly. For mains I ordered the chicken sandwich. Tender, juicy chicken with roasted tomatoes and a balsamic sauce... Delicious! The baguette was light but held the sandwich together the entire time and the fries were yummy too. We stopped in again on Saturday night to a packed house (defo could fit a few more tables in there to seat more people) watching live music and having a great time. More wings and another chicken sando later and I was a happy lady. Hubby's Rock burger on Thurs night and brat from Sat night got two thumbs up from him. We stopped in, based on the great food reviews, fun vibe, only 3 beers on tap so definitely not a first choice if you prefer beer over wine.. my reason for 2 stars is that after we sat, considered the menu and made our decisions my husband went to the bar to place our order and after he made the order the girl at the bar said "oh, I forgot to tell you it's going to be an hour wait" .... Neither the parking lot nor the venue looked overly full and when my husband asked if it's always this way, she said "no it's random.".... I'm sorry, random as as in it happens randomly often on, or random like this almost never happens it's kind of a one off?.... Either way we live two hours away and didn't have an hour to wait for our sinner to arrive, eat and then make our way home so we left.... Mind you the menu is small and simple (which I love) but it's burger's, salads and sandwiches... I don't think we'd have that long of a wait in one of Gordon Ramsay's fancy restaurants. We may or may not try again, but I guess you better call before you go. Super disappointing.. read more
