Went in on Sunday morning prime breakfast time, we got our food delivered hot and under 15 minutes and this was with only seeing two servers on the floor. The food was so good, I got biscuit and gravy with grits, my husband got pancakes, eggs and sausage patties. The server was so nice and personable but still professional. you could tell that there was a lot of regular customer present and that the whole staff got alone and enjoyed working together ( you could see and hear the kitchen staff too.) The place had a retro dinner feel about it and it was awesome , it does look dated but I personally feel like it gives to the experience of it. I will be going back. read more

I am sad to have to write this, I have been eating at Hallmark restaurant since I moved back to Killeen in Feb 2018, several breakfasts and a lot of Friday nights for the catfish. After tonight's experience I and my family will never go back. 1. iced tea tasted old 2. cole slaw was bad 3. fish was overcooked 4 ranch dressing was very runny and tasted bad 5 salad tasted bad and one of the salads on the table had bad tomatoes in it 6 French fries were undercooked I had not experienced any of this there before tonight it is either the kitchen staff doesn't care and are there for a paycheck and management /ownership has gotten to the point where they don't care either and aren't setting and enforcing standards. read more

This place just can't be beat! I have been here several times since I've lived in the fort hood area, and whenever I come to visit I always make a stop here. My most recent visit was on a Sunday -- probably the worst day of the week to go to any restaurant all things considered.. but I HAD to go . My mother and I walked in (they let you seat yourself) but when we saw how busy it was we decided to take our food to go. We sat down since the lady that does to go orders was MIA for several minutes and asked if it was okay if we order to go from the table. The server was super busy but took the time to take care of us anyway! I love the service here. We ordered the two egg plate (egg whites over hard) with bacon, grits, and toast; as well as the meat lovers omelet with toast. Both meals were 18 which is a steal! While we were waiting for our food, our server made sure we were still doing well, that made me feel welcome and anyone who says that they didn't feel that way at this restaurant must not be a very nice person (just saying). About a 20 minute wait (normal) and we were off! Food was delicious! Only reason this is not a five star review was because for the omelet there is a 75 cent upcharge for cheese. First off let me say I love these kind of restaurants, home based & not too big. Back in Hawaii we have A LOT of places like this. So when I walked in, the environment reminded me of restaurants back home. The MAIN reason I came here was for the Eggs Benedict (I'm a fatty lol). Unfortunately they don't have the Hollandaise sauce, they serve it with cheese sauce that is mixed with green peppers & other things. Since I was already there I just ordered it anyways. The cheese sauce was overpowering to the Eggs Benedict, it was salty & all I could taste was a little eggs & cheese. My friend who was with me ordered a cinnamon roll (they have it laid out on the counters). Apparently the waitress warmed it up but it took about 20 minutes to get that to us. The service here was ok. Our waitress kinda took her time getting our food & asking if we needed anything more while she helped other customers. I always try to look at the positive, she might have had a bad day or maybe she was covering for someone. read more

Well, I really wanted catfish so this seemed like the place to go, and the fried catfish itself was really really good, the batter they use is very flavorful. And the tartar sauce on the side is either homemade or high end purchase. I got the home cut French fries with it and they were very disappointing, soggy and unsalted. My wife's hash browns were way over cooked, and we waited for about 20 mins for our food and it wasn't busy at all. I'm gonna come back here when it is all you can eat catfish, and go to town but that is all I'll be having. read more

We went there today and were very disappointed. The majority of the waitresses were not wearing their masks properly. Their noses and mouths were uncovered and worn on their chin. My husband ordered coffee and we ordered breakfast. One of the waitresses gave me a additude when I said something about the mask under her chin. I observed that the cook wasn't wearing a mask and when our order came out wrong and cold we paid for the coffee and told them we were leaving. I didn't feel safe eating there with the workers not wearing their masks properly. We will be taking our business elsewhere. read more

This is a mom & pop style diner. I had the catfish meal. It came with a choice of soup or salad. I had a nice mixed vegetable salad. The ranch dressing was homemade & DELICIOUS. In addition, I chose a baked potato with all the fixings. It was the largest baked potato I've ever had. It was a meal in itself. The servings are generous and the prices are reasonable. The catfish comes either, baked or fried. I chose fried catfish and it was excellent. My dinner was $8.99. My friend had fried steak with gravy. It was very tasty. She also enjoyed the soup which appeared to be homemade tomato soup. On Fridays, The Hallmark Restaurant has all the catfish you can eat for $16.99. We loved our waitress who was a very pretty redhead. We were so impressed with the food, we met the chef "Doc". The Hallmark has a varied menu. I noticed they also had herb chicken for $11.99. The only reason I'm giving it 2 stars is because our server was so understanding of how we are feeling. I think she was feeling the same way. ANNOYED! Drunk bikers everywhere. They had a party of 15 which is breaking cdc guidelines. I understand it's a holiday but we need to ensure we being safe and stopping the spread. ALL YOU CAN EAT CATFISH ON WEDNESDAY AND FRIDAYS. What more can I say? On Friday evenings, there is a retired school teacher by the name of Steve that plays his guitar and sings songs. It's such a vibrant country-diner experience. They've got some variety on there menu. They have a texmex section, spaghetti, chicken fried steak, burgers, I think they even have bulgogi. I'm not sure if they still have the bulgogi or took it off though. It does get pretty busy on Friday evenings. Sometimes there isn't a single seat open in the restaurant. So either be willing to wait or have a backup plan for dinner if you're coming on those nights. The waitresses can be a little slow at times, but you just have to understand for them. On a full house, it's gonna be a frenzy for them. read more

Yes...I just gave this place 5 Stars...and it has earned each and every one of those stars. Now, you may be thinking "Well, Tony, maybe it's 5 Stars considering the plethora of mediocre food choices around the Harker Heights/Killeen area." Well, yes...you could indeed make a strong argument to that point, but as far as old school diners go, this place is pretty frakking solid. First plus...open 24 hours! Second positive...breakfast ALL DAY! Third reason to love it...they actually do make most of the items in house! I've only been for lunches so far, but aspire to go for breakfast and dinner at some point. Service is fantastic. From the very first visit, I felt like I've been going there for years. They treat new customers the same way they treat their regulars (of which there are plenty), with sassy efficiency! They have daily specials (breakfast lunch and dinner), AYCE catfish Tuesdays and Fridays and AYCE steak Wednesdays and Saturdays. The menu is extensive and varied. Prices are extremely affordable and the portions are generous. I won't go through everything I have had there, but I have never had anything disappoint me. A few highlights for me are the Hammer Sandwich (sliced turkey, ham, roast beef, american cheese, swiss cheese, and all the trimmings and house dressing, served hot!). This sandwich had me making yum yum noises every bite! The BLT (they say overloaded with bacon) is indeed overloaded with bacon. This sandwich should be served with a Lipitor chaser. The onion rings, hand breaded and fried to golden perfection. The onions are thick cut and don't fall out with each bite...the sign of a well made onion ring! Omelettes, burgers, skillets, meatloaf etc etc...true diner fare at its best. Passing through, just moved here, haven't been in a while...doesn't matter. Just don't miss out on Hallmark! read more

I just called Hallmark to place a order for pick up and the waitress had the nerve to tell me they "only take call in to go orders on Wednesday's and fridays !" ????!! How much sense does that make?! Can someone please explain to me why we'd and fri are better days to make money than mon and Tuesday?! I've never had a business turn away my money because of what day of the week it was ! That's a new one for me! I guess I'll take my money somewhere else to a restaurant that enjoys making money on tuesdays ! Food has always been up to par but recently the front of the house staff serves specifically have not, upon arrival I had to seat myself as well as wait several minutes before being greeted with menus and having my drink taken(which was done very rudely). We later watch and waited has the servers went around doing everything from complaining about previous employees to eating in front of the customers and then directly handing food after without having washed their hands. This has not been the first complaint I've had with servers and I genuinely hope the restaurant and management will take into consideration these experiences and work to make their staff better. read more

I'd give this place 2.5 stars if possible. 3 seems a little generous, but 2 seems kind of harsh....so, 2.5 works. Stopped here because it was near-ish to our hotel and near where we needed to be before leaving town. I saw the great reviews and figured we'd give it a try. My meal was great, it was the service and the attitude with the service mostly. The restaurant also wasn't that clean, which is a big thing in my opinion. The restaurant wasn't terribly busy ~ there were at least 6 or 7 empty tables, but our server seemed irritated that we chose to sit at her table and took a good 7 - 8 minutes to even stop and ask what we'd like to drink. I will say that my food came out exactly as I asked for it, which is unusual because I'm picky about how my bacon and eggs are cooked. Everything was cooked just as I'd asked, which was nice. My husband had the short stack and a side of ham. He said the pancakes were very tough and I just couldn't believe it. I've never had tough pancakes before. I tried one after it had been sitting in syrup for quite a while and he was right. I had to fight to get a piece and usually after sitting in syrup that long, it's almost falling apart as you pick it up with your fork. Overall I guess the experience was okay when you average out that I was happy with my meal and he wasn't. If it were cleaner and/or the server happier that she was working that day, I'd have given another star probably, but I can't stand a server that makes you feel like you're an inconvenience before they even take your order. read more

The only way I can explain this place (and I've been here a lot) is to tell the story of the last morning I ate here. All I wanted was some biscuits and gravy with coffee before I took on another long day at work. As I was nearing the end of my soul settling breakfast, I hear some banter at a table nearby. Seated were three 70-80 year old "regulars." (I've seen them before and the staff knew them as well). One of them requesting milk for his coffee. The waitress was blantantly refusing to get him milk, "management put an end to that." I observe as she goes toward the food counter to chat with her coworkers over this no milk policy. "Team leader" name tag woman comes over and refills my coffee. The following ensues: Me "I'd like to buy that man his milk for his coffee." Team Leader "Oh, is he complaining?" Me "Well, no, but he wants milk for his coffee." TL "That's was half and half is for." Me "But he wants milk.... I will pay for it." Team leader walks away without a word refilling coffee. A few solid minutes go by and she yacks some more with her coworkers. Team leader (without a word) places a small cup of milk at the gentleman's table, walks over to my table, grabs my ticket and writes "small milk, $1.69" and places the ticket face down on my table. $1.69.... you couldn't make that man happy that day for a buck and some change?! Is the food here pretty good? Yes. Is it plentiful? Yes. Could it be better? Yes. I will support a small, local business all day, but I won't support this kind of behavior. I hope someone sees this and corrects the problem with your team leader not setting an example for customer service and human kindness. read more

This is the height of mom & pop eatery's. No chain look to this place at all. Hallmark has been here in the same location for decades. Jerry Henderson (also owner of Henderson's in downtown Killeen) has built a reputation for plain good food at reasonable prices and he has delivered forever. Some of the staff have been with him over 20 years as have many patrons. The lot is almost as full at 2am as it is at noon. Their lunch specials are what a Texan expects, chickenfriedsteak, meatloaf, catfish, etc.; nothing fancy, just danged good food, priced low and served well by pleasant staff who work hard to make your meal enjoyable. You can find Jerry making rounds out in the dining room or, just as often, in the back washing pots. Say hello. You seat yourself and don't be afraid to sit at a table with other folks. That guy over there may have on overalls and look like a farmer cause he is! He may also own the Toyota dealership in town or be the mayor. Just happened on this cafe and what a pleasure! Desiree offered suggestions on choices that were great. The portions are mammoth and pricing unbelievable for home style comfort food. The fried green beans were delicious as was the side of home made ranch dressing. The soup, chef salad sandwich combo sent me home with my dinner. They had " slice if watermelon" on the menu- I could hardly believe my eyes when they brought it out and it was a wedge that was about a sixth of an entire melon! If you are not a regular customer don't expect kind courteous service. The cook did a less than stellar job too. I might not be going back again. The service was horrible. The waitress spilled water on one of ur family member's purse and didn't comp her meal out of courtesy the head waitress defeated her by my saying it was a mistake. She is right mistakes happen but it should not be at the customer's expense. So at the customer expensive she had to take all her stuff out of her purse and carry it until her purse drys out. Oh Hallmark how I love your "home-cooked meals" and amazing prices. This place is a hometown favorite, especially for breakfast. Not only is the food delicious, but the people working there are super friendly. Many workers have been working there for years and knows almost everyone walking though the front door by first name. Personally, this place got a hundred times better after they implemented the no smoking policy. Mkay, let's get to the food! I had their eggs benedict with hashbrowns...it was to DIE for.
