Our favorite place for breakfast....at times very busy, but the waitstaff always remains cheery. We love their mushroom, onion and swiss cheese omlet made with egg whites with a side of hash browns or home fries and toast($ 6.99). It is your typical hometown diner where your cup of coffee is still $ 1.35....We have been here in the morning, very late at night after the clubs close and in the early afternoon and the service has always been good. Today, my family and I were looking for a "new" restaurant to try. I say new because we have been sticking to what we know since we're new to the area. After reading reviews on yelp for many many restaurants we felt that the Hallmark Restaurant would be a great place to try. It is open seating so we sat ourselves. The waitress greeted us within two minutes and took our drink order. We then had a few minutes to browse the menu. My husband ordered the all you can eat catfish, my kids had chicken tenders and hotdog and I ordered the spaghetti. We have this thing of not judging a book by its cover. It isn't the fanciest of places. The decor was dated and it was really humid. Problem 1: My iced tea had a spoon in it that food still on it from previous use. We addressed it with the waitress and she apologized and brought me a new drink less the food. ;-) Problem 2: My husband was eating the catfish and it wasn't the best in the world but it wasn't the worst either. The problem is that the tartar sauce was "nasty" (his words). It made his stomach turn and it seemed as if it was from a jar and not made in house. He pushed it off to the side and just ate the catfish with hot sauce. Our waitress came back to see if he was ready for another serving since it was all you can eat. He immediately declined. Problem 3: The ladies restroom was not very clean nor slightly. It only had one stall and the door on the stall needed to be replaced. (There was a sign up,apologizing for the door) Since the space on the side where you lock it was so obvious, they put up a shower curtain that you can pull across for privacy. (I know this part is out of order but I wanted to make sure that I mentioned it) My kids didn't complain about their food nor celebrate about it. My spaghetti wasn't anything special. It lacked flavor, even with me putting Parmesan cheese on it and salt. It came with two pieces of garlic bread. The garlic bread was the best part of my meal. I'm not sure if we were there on a off night, but it certainly didn't live up to all the four and five stars the other yelpers gave it. Tried this restaurant based on previous reviews as we were visiting family. The food would be considered "home cooking" and was truly excellent. I tried one of the skillet breakfast options and was not disappointed. The cream gravy is homemade, and as I was raised in the south, I have a true appreciation for good gravy. If you like a cream or sausage gravy, you will enjoy. Food came out very hot and fresh. The coffee was excellent as well. The wait staff was pleasant and "warned" us that they were busy and food/service would be slow. She was not exaggerating. Food times were indeed a little slow. We got plenty of coffee, but waited a while on food. Coffee service (refills) was good, but bus staff filled our cups as much as the waitress Our particular waitress in my opinion spent too much time telling all of her customers how slow that she might be in waiting on them because she was so busy. While pleasant, she wasted time with excuses rather than a simple warning and apology. I would have been happier with more coffee and less wasted time. The checkout process was the downside to an otherwise nice meal. It took some time to get a "to go" box and our check. Business had slowed down considerably at this point. My only true "bad" experience was at the register. The lady checking out was sullen and did not bother to address me, or even thank me. The only words out of her mouth was to tell me our total. This was my first time eating at Hallmark. I was surprised that they had an armed guard. When I asked why, I was told that things can get rowdy on occasion. I seated myself in a booth and ordered the meatlovers plate and sweet tea. My meal came much more quickly than I anticipated The food was tasty and the portions generous. I think that Hallmark may become a late night/ early morning tradition. The breakfast skillet was highly recommended by the guard. He said that it is served in a sizzling skillet! Went in to have a nice breakfast; seated ourselves and waited 15 min to get a menu. Waited another 10 min to get our drinks. Waited yet another 15 min before we had to ask our server if she was going to take our order. She was so incredibly rude. We have been going here for 30 years and never have been treated so rudely. Let's get right into it. Smoking is NOT allowed in there anymore which is good but I have been going since I was a little boy so I don't mind the smoke. I don't understand why people give any place a bad reputation because they don't wanna smell smoke. Do you not wanna smell smoke? Well go somewhere else. The service for the most part is always wonderful. Servers always have bad nights once in a blue moon (Trust me, I am one so I know) Doesn't matter who you get, you will always get abov average service. The food is the reason it did NOT hit the 5 star mark. It is a hit or miss. My food is always cooked fine but its just somethings on the menu are a hit or a complete miss. For instance, Spaghetti is always fine when I order it. Malibu Chicken is ALWAYS divine everytime I order it. Their chili is disgusting everytime. So its not how its prepared that it is a hit or miss but the item (product) you buy when you go there. But if you ever get hungry and feel like going out at 3 am for a early breakfast...I reccomend this more then Ihop or Denny's! read more

For years I'd been hesitant to come here just because of the location and the old look to it. It looks old on the inside too. Came here overnight, and there were only two other customers, so it's hard to judge the speed of service on a normal night, but this night was quick and friendly, treated like you would expect at a hometown southern comfort style dinner. The menus is pretty varied, and the waitresses kind of hint, how good your order is may depend on who is cooking. I found the food decent. Not outstanding by any means, but better than just the basic same ole chain food. The specials guarantee you'll get a decent meal at a decent price. These type of 24 hour place aren't for everyone, but it's worth a shot to escape the chains. read more

Courteous patient service is reserved for Regulars that are known by name, sure it's lunch hour but with 4 servers and 30 tables it should allow me to ask about the menu and not be rushed. A very old school laid back old school American diner. The staff is very friendly, my waitress was Goes by the name of "mow." Real sweet kind lady that knows how to talk to people. Menu options are like most other diners in the US. But the food is really good then other diners in the area. I have order two pound of cat fish every week. Today I pay for two pound but didn't get two pound. When complain to the manager she said the owner said only put twelve pieces in the box to make a pound. I explain to her these small pieces of fish do not make a pound.I ask her do you weight them? she said no. So how do you know it's pound? she said she just doing what she told. I went for breakfast. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't my favorite. The sausage patties that came on my plate tasted like they were frozen and they just heated them up in the microwave. The waitress was rude and not my favorite. The biscuits and gravy were very good. I would say 2.5.... just looked like an old dark place to me. I'll probably try it once more in hopes that I will have a better experience, but the waitress definitely made my experience there not as great. Oh and they also ask you how much you want to tip as you're paying at the register I didn't like that at all. That's always strange to me. read more

We knew we'd have to deal with the smoking but since I always see a good amount of cars in during rush hour, I really wanted to give it another try. This was what I thought at the time, their definite high point. I had the mushroom and onion omelette and it was right on. Fresh mushrooms, a lot of flavor and just really tasty. I thought, "Ok, I can do this. I've found their strength." So on the NEXT visit, I order the same thing - I couldn't resist - and it was CANNED mushrooms. UGH! Had this place recommended to by a co worker, and finally got around to eating here. My initial impression is that it could use a scrubbing. I wouldn't call it dirty, just not clean. It's a seat yourself place, and we were easily able to find a booth. The server was very friendly, and took care of us in a timely fashion. The menu was standard country restaurant fare. The food itself was fresh, and made with real ingredients. No cheese stuff or powdered eggs. The coffee was fresh and strong. The overall vibe was down home.
