Came here based on the reviews. Good decision! And happy to find a tasty sushi restaurant close to home. I ordered tea and the server asked if I wanted green. Nice. It was a nice color, and mild -- no sweetener necessary. My husband and I both got rainbow rolls (mine with less rice) and he also got the Washington roll. It wasn't long before we received our piping hot miso soup. The tofu was small but enough. Our rolls came out soon after. The fish was tender and delicious and the rice was sticky and perfect consistency. Our server forgot our salads (mostly iceberg) but was quick to bring them out. I think she was the only one on the floor handling five tables. Overall, it was a good experience and worth another visit! read more

Not impressed with Hamachi Sushi, my husband and I went in for lunch..very odd place to be and not very welcoming. Our server was not very knowledgeable of menu items and didn't seem to care much about our needs. We ordered sushi, which was what we should've ate to begin with but we ate it along with our teriyaki beef, which was absolutely terrible..it was like what I would imagine eating canned dog food would be like and nowhere near enough food for the price. Miso soup was also terrible with huge chunks of tofu floating around in it. I would've given 1 star but the sushi earned an extra star. Wouldn't go back and wouldn't recommend. read more

Delicious! I came here on a whim and was not disappointed. It's Friday around 1130 and I ordered the sashimi salad. I wanted to add a little bit of seaweed salad into it and they let me do that for a small up charge of two dollars. My first thought when walking into this place was "WOW". I used to come to the location when it was the Korean Garden, and what the new owners did to the inside is incredible. Excellent tile and decorations that aren't over the top like many other Japanese places in town. Too be honest, I was very surprised to see a place this tasteful on Dyer. It belongs in a trendier area of town like Kern. Being here our first time, we decided to order a wide variety of sushi rolls as well as their Bento Box meals. First, the bento box meals were good, kind of a typical Japanese teriyaki taste, but for being under 10 dollars (you get meat, tempura, california roll, salad, and rice) you can't find a deal that good anywhere in town. Not even at Mirai Bowl. Second, the sushi rolls. I have tried just about every sushi place in town, and Hamachi has now become my new home base for sushi. I have finally found a sushi place in El Paso that tastes great and doesn't load all of their rolls full of cream cheese. We had the Unagi roll, Alaska Roll, Dragon Roll, Spider Roll, and spicy tuna tempura roll. In each roll, they were prepared well and didnt fall apart when grabbing them with chop sticks. Each tasted incredibly fresh and the presentation of each roll on their respective plates was fantastic, above and beyond what any other place in town does. To top it all off each roll runs you about $7 for a generic roll and $10 for a special roll. Compare this to other places that charge $12-$15 per roll. Finally, we went on a Monday afternoon when they only had one waitress and it was fairly busy. Despite all of this, we were given prompt service on drinks and ordering. Even though the waitress was obviously swamped, she still was very polite, and still made an effort each time she visited our table to say "please let me know if there is anything else I can get for you". We were also all very surpised at how quickly the sushi chef was able to prepare all of our rolls for us, even though he was preparing sushi for every other table. We have no complaints in the service area. In summary, Hamachi is a rare gem hidden away on the northeast side when it deserves to be mentioned in the realm of the nicer places downtown or at Kern. In my humble opinion the Sushi can't be beat anywhere else in town. Take the trip to the northeast and you won't be disappointed, as this is a must try for anyone that can say "I like Sushi". read more

Hamachi is a new Sushi venture that opened up in Northeast El Paso (across from the Big 8). You walk in, and the restaurant is nicely decorated. Not over done and chintzy like so many asian restaurants tend to be. The fish is fresh (as fresh as EP fish can get). The sushi part of the menu is mostly American sushi (and deep fried, which I really can't abide by). However, they will make you the classic rolls, even if they aren't on the menu. On my first attempt, I accidentally ordered the Sumi salad. This is a cabbage salad with an Asian dressing, made crunchy by ramen noodles and almond slivers. I enjoyed it so much, that it isn't a visit until I've had a serving. For desert, definitely try the Green Tea ice cream. I am not a very sweet person, but this is enough to cleanse the palette. It has a slight green tea flavor, but not overwhelming sugar. Please give them a try, and keep a new local business open! read more

Decided to give Hamachi a try one day and although I was a bit skeptical at the thought of Sushi in the northeast, I'm glad we did. It's definitely a hidden gem. I could not find a menu online so my husband and I decided to stop by in person. The server said it would take about 15-20 minutes so we went to run another errand during that time. The employee was not friendly. First of all, I am deaf and the woman continued to speak when I asked her to write it down. She had a bit of an attitude. Overall experience: "Unimpressed and bored." Atmosphere: Hamachi is tastefully decorated with marble floors, framed pictures of their sushi rolls, the Hamachi logo, and cheap IKEA tables. I wish they used cloth napkins for the dinner crowd, however. Service: One star deduction here. Service was very lacking during a Thursday night dinner rush, probably due to poor management of the staff and scheduling. Two poor servers had to attend to the whole restaurant as well as bussing, and the numerous to-go orders that kept coming in. So any plates, drinks, chopsticks, checks, etc were hard to come by. Food: Mediocre at best. We ordered: Lion King roll, Caterpillar roll, Baked Alaska roll, Maguro sushi, and Unagi sushi. The sushi (nigiri) was very good I have to say. But each of the rolls were a pretty big let down. The Baked Alaska roll was my fault for ordering a sushi roll with cooked, hot salmon on top - eew. But the other two were still very basic with the foundation of each being more or less a California roll. The miso soup that comes with any meal was good, but who's isn't? The salad was swimming in dressing, but wasn't too bad. In all, I deducted the other star for the mediocrity of the food. I won't be coming back, but still glad I tried it. Good service, good food. The menu is really hard to read- red on black in a too-small font. The dining room has a nice theme going on, but needs attention- floors are super sticky (eewwww), and a bunch the deco lights ate burned out. This is a small place- 10 tables and a six-seater sushi bar. My waitress was great, and had good rapport with the chefs who made just what I wanted with lovely presentation. Ordered a scallop roll with no rice to go, in my car I looked at it and it was swimming in the salad dressing of side salads I ordered. Took it back, they separated the food like they should have initially. Took a bite and , GROSS! It was basically lukewarm and there was no reason to be because I ordered it with no rice. Hamachi is one of the best sushi places you can go to in El Paso. Its an intimate location which makes for a perfect date night restaurant. The area is also open enough so that a family can go and have a great time! the prices are fair, and the Sake is great (especially when they heat it up)! On my most recent visit there with my girlfriend I ordered the rainbow roll and I was so surprised to see it included apendice shaped rice ball! My personal favourite roll is the Dragon Roll made with Unagi, im also a huge fan of their spicy tuna rolls! make sure to save room for desert! I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the food here! I was honestly very hesitant to go, never had sushi in the northeast, what can I say! It was delicious and a good size. Very small portions for the price. A couple years ago we dined in and every persons dish was brought out individually over the course of an hour and we were the only customers in the restaurant. The food was just so-so. Tonight we decided to try them again for carryout, based largely on recent reviews, hoping that things have changed. No such luck.
