The first time we went, I thought it was fine. Not great, but ok enough to warrant a repeat visit. The decor is nice, our server was friendly and attentive. Food was ok; pricey for what was served but fine. I went back with a friend recently and the experience couldn't have been more disappointing. I really wanted to like this place, a neighborhood joint within walking distance. Unfortunately, my friend ordered two items - the grilled shrimp kebab and then the turkey leg, and was told that both were sold out. She ended up with a house salad with salmon, which she said was good. After about a 45 min wait, in which we watched the people around us receive drinks and apps, our food arrived. I had ordered the lemon pepper wings, which tasted of neither lemon nor pepper - the blandest wings I've ever had. I also didn't want a full house salad and asked for a side 'salad' which consisted of lettuce and exactly three grape tomatoes. Our server was new, and tried (bless his heart), but we spent too much for an inferior meal to return until the kinks are worked out a little better. We made a reservation here for the Super Bowl & requested a table by a tv. We were promptly sat and were by a tv woohoo. Our table was wobbly, and someone (maybe manager) noticed and literally ran to get coasters to fix the issue without us asking. I think these types of things really show they an establishment cares and is trying their best. We orders chicken fingers and deviled eggs for apps. Deviled eggs could use a little work, but not bad. Such a disappointment! Two of us came in before the movie, excited to try this new restaurant. The Caesar salads we ordered consisted of several spears of lettuce, a cheese cracker and a hidden promised anchovy, accompanied by a thumbful of dressing. Unique, but unlike any Caesar we'd seen before. To their credit, they took them back and did not charge. The hamburger was good. No desserts! "We haven't worked out our dessert menu as yet." My wife and I went there after the movies with some friends. Out waitress was awesome, I think her name was Anseline. The beers was great, as well, as were the other drinks. Food seem average, I had the roasted chicken, it could have use more seasoning. Burgers were good, steak tips very good. My big complaint was that my wife wanted to substitute her mash potatoes for something else. We were told no substitutions. The waitress was very apologetic, and wanted to do it, and she asked the kitchen, and the answer was no. We were all amazed. Why not? This is not a Michelin 5 star Paris restaurant... How hard would it be to put the brussells sprouts on the plate instead of the mash potatoes? Isn't going out to dinner about the customer? At Legal's, or Capital Grill, or Not Your Average Joe's, they always do that. We will not be back. Seems like a very silly policy to me. read more

Our group of 10 ran into 3 big misses: 1. Don't get the mussels! Something went wrong and both our and the table next to us had to send them back. Not only did they taste like used dishwater, the matching odor overpowered the other dishes. 2. The quinoa in the quinoa and kale salads (three of us got them) was supposed to be crunchy but turned out hard and tough. Think oat bag for a horse tough. 3. (I should have ordered better) The deviled eggs are pickled and are labeled as such. six of us had one and no one liked them. No surprises, I suppose, just not a very likable item, in our group at least. When I brought these issues up with the sous chef he was defensive, even with the consistency of our table's three quinoa salads and both tables' mussels. He said that everything was fresh which lead me to the notion that maybe its just the cooking. The one cocktail that my friend got, the Thomas Jefferson, was very good. The decor is also very nice. This restaurant is pretty sad. I felt bad for their waiter because he kept having to tell us that he didn't have the drinks or menu items that we wanted! To give an example, not only were the first and second IPAs I wanted unavailable (this is not so unusual, I suppose) but there was a mixed drink that you couldn't order because there were no cucumbers in house!! Then, when I asked the waiter whether I should get the clam chowder or the shrimp kebobs, he told me that I shouldn't get the chowder because it was tiny, but the kebobs were unavailable. A few of our party ordered the pasta alfredo spaghetti special that our waiter was touting (this was to replace the linguini with clams, which was still on the printed menu but was not available because it "just never worked"), but then when it came time to pass out our dishes, they were told there was no spaghetti in the kitchen! Fortunately there was penne or some other shape, but it's pretty wacky that the management is trying to run a restaurant without keeping basic items like cucumbers and spaghetti in stock. By the way, we ended up having to order the quinoa and kale salad and a burger because of being discouraged from ordering the other items. The salad was really lame and the quinoa was very pebbly. Tasted like what someone would make the first time they ever experimented with "healthy food". The burger was not great either and it took way too long to get ketchup to accompany the meal. I feel bad for being a complainer but there is just no reason to go to this restaurant unless you enjoy watching people struggle. read more

Given the up and down reviews my wife and I decided to give it a shot before seeing a movie at The Coolidge. It was about 6pm on Saturday and the restaurant was less than 50% full. As others have mentioned, I believe this spot has potential, but has a ways to go. We were seated right away and the drink order was taken fairly quickly. The service was ok, food and drinks arrived within a decent window, but we were never checked in on or asked how things were going. I was almost halfway through the meal when I had to flag down the server for another beer. Its a tale of two menus: the beer list is varied and great. Lots of good options, relatively fairly priced and they do show how big the pour is for cost, which I like. The food menu was disappointing especially since their website boasted "A New Fall Menu" and it didn't seem any of those items were offered that night. About 8 entrees usually means they are all done extremely well, but this wasn't our experience. We started with the house salad. The lemon-ginger vinaigrette on the salad was tasty, but they put on so much dressing the salad looked more like a soup than a salad. For the main course, I got a burger. It was $16, which seemed pricy, but it is Brookline. The burger was so charred on the outside that that flavor was all you could taste and the bacon in the burger was non-existant. After looking back at the reviews we noticed the someone just last week mentioned that they had a very similar experience with their burger. Which makes us think that either the restaurant owners are not looking at the reviews or do not care. We tried, but we will not be back. There are plenty of other great options in that area. read more

I don't normally write reviews but my experience here was by far my most disappointing dinning experience I've ever had. I ordered a burger and the bun consisted of two butts. At first I laughed at the mistake but this turned out to be the least of them. My burger, bun, and bread were charred, completely blackened. I could not taste anything but the burnt taste. As I took another bite (because I was starving) I bite into not 1 but 2 bay leaves. What they were doing a top my burger I don't know. It was not a pleasant experience. My boyfriend experienced a similar disappointment with his burger, totally blackened. I cannot believe we paid 32 dollars for those burgers. Avoid this place. read more

I finally went to Hamilton, and I enjoyed my experience overall. The server was great. He was friendly, funny, and took care of us. The atmosphere is one I like. They have a big bar, window seats if you prefer, and booths for groups etc. We ordered the chicken tenders (boneless) and chicken wings (bone-in). We tried a combination of sauces. The chicken itself is top notch, and that's important. It was not boney or mealy, it seem to be quality, fresh chicken. I would ask that Hamilton add buffalo sauce to the buffalo wings. They really did not have a buffalo feel or taste because there really was little or no sauce. Go all out and make your buffalo wings actually match the name! The same goes for the barbecue ribs. They were meaty but had very little sauce. I don't think they are dry rub, and I love the taste of good ribs, but they needed that molasses sauce promised on the menu. I asked for additional sauce and got it, but it was cold from the fridge. The same goes for the steak tips my nephew ordered. I would say, up your spice and sauce game to make those dishes match expectations, and I may want to live there. read more

When the check came, there was a line item for "rocks--$2 per drink." Manager had some confusing explanation (to me there is none) but never offered to take off the charge or offer something in return for this feedback. Food shockingly terrible. My husband and I went here on our date night for some dinner and drink excited to try out the new place in town. My beer was good and they have a solid mix of beers on tap but everything just went wrong with the food. I'm kind of shocked because neither of us are picky eaters and can't remember the last time I thought a meal was notably bad. Our apps and main meals came out together. The deviled eggs were ok, the mussels we ordered may have been good but by the time they reached us they were not hot anymore (seemed like the timing of the cooking has some kinks they need to work out) so mediocre at best. I got the burger, the outside of it was super burnt....a burger is pretty hard to mess up and somehow they managed. My husband got the buffalo turkey leg, he thought it was ok but the combo of taste was sooo weird. I haven't really done many yelp reviews but I can't believe I just spent $80 on such a terrible meal. The menu is small right now before they fully open the restaurant so would've thought they could have their act together with the food they are serving. They really messed up because we def would've been back had it been even remotely ok. Our waiter was nice and knowledgeable which is only reason for 2 stars. read more

Didn't know what to expect, but was very pleasantly surprised. One room has TVs for viewing sports, and the other one is for quieter dining. I was ready not to expect much from the food, but it was classic with a twist and very well done. In terms of neighborhood restaurants, it was the Regal Beagle meets the Clubhouse. Fun drinks. Came here for drinks for the first time tonight for their grand opening. First impressions were overall positive. The atmosphere is nice. Lots of wood and darker leather give it a more classy upscale vibe than places with this many tvs playing sports usually have. Beer selection wasn't enormous but included a good variety of craft beers, lots of local new England IPAs, amongst other offerings. Cocktail descriptions sounded good enough that I'll definitely try one next time I'm in. Food menu isn't huge but has a good selection of gastropub type fare. We tried the deviled eggs which came lightly pickled. Pickled deviled eggs were a first for me but I loved them, easily some of the best I've ever had. Definitely looking forward to trying more off their menu in the future. Overall, seems like a great bar with a lot of potential. Good place to catch a game if you're looking for a nicer atmosphere than your standard sports bar, or a good place to go for dinner/drinks. I'll definitely be back soon. read more

The mussels we ordered came out cold and the clam shells in our pasta were strangely smashed up, leaving shell pieces scattered throughout the pasta sauce and ready to crack a tooth. Management cleared the dish from our tab but I'm not sure how that slipped through the kitchen. The clam chowder was good at least. Hamilton is a hit! Great addition to the Coolidge Corner neighborhood. Laid back neighborhood feel. Large screen TVs showing various sports yet the cube wasn't Sports and it wasn't too loud. Window seating a nice touch! The food was great! We ordered deviled eggs appetizer and they were the best we've had anywhere! Fun cocktail menu (all named after presidents) and tasted terrific!
