Hammerhand is a staple for Liberty residents and hope they stay! Inside is an inviting, bustling coffee shop filled with regulars; teens, local college students/study groups, and businessmen/women. Modern comfortable feel inside and all your favorite coffee, teas, a few pastries and even savory options. Not all coffee houses carry cold brew, my preferred coffee, but Hammerhand does so it's on my regular rotation! There are a few tables outside along a quaint street. I appreciate being open later in evenings despite the rest of the area is almost a ghost town after 6pm! I noticed that while it came across as "hip" there were plenty of older customers there too and I thought that was nice. The only downside which isn't on them is that they recently moved locations and not all of the gps apps are up to date. Finally!!! Liberty has been deprived of a good coffee shop and Hammerhand has humbly filled that position! Located in downtown Liberty on the square. A cute little corner shop that has temporarily taken the space of an old lamp store while they wait for the renovation/construction of their new space next door. Either way I love this location. It gives off that hipster vibe with a good ol' fashion coffee shop feel. It's spacious, tall ceilings, and big windows that are great for studying. The atmosphere and welcoming environment won't turn you away. They offer an array of specialty coffees, teas, and baked goods, as well as craft beer and wine. Although they serve alcohol, they specialize more in coffee, obviously. The baristas were quite knowledgeable and helpful! The pastries and baked goods they serve are from a local KC bakery, Sasha's! Appreciate that they support other local businesses! Also love the fact that they're open till 7pm. Most coffee shops closes way earlier, so I'm grateful that I have a place nearby I can still get a quick caffeine fix in the evening time! Now how do I convince them to stay open a tad bit later?! If you enjoy paying nearly $5 ($3.75 plus .75 syrup plus tax) for an 8oz cappuccino with their "homemade" flavoring that tastes sour, while eating a somewhat stale textured cinnamon roll, this is your spot. I am a former barista of 9 yrs and feel like I know pretentious, overpriced coffee when I meet it-- if that's an indicator for you. We wanted to like this place, but my entire group felt their experience for the cost, was also lackluster. All warm drinks tasted sour, the 6 baristas behind the counter (there were 6 for the ENTIRE time we were sitting down) were not friendly and one tried passing off half & half as heavy whipping cream on one of us in our group who has dietary restrictions with sugars. I personally witnessed one barista eating while making someone's beverage and another continually sipping their tea as they watched the rest of the crew make items, ALL while behind the counter-- not very professional. THIS REVIEW IS WHAT WE WITNESSED AND ARE MY OPINIONS/THE OPINIONS OF MY GROUP. The owner's response I feel, speaks volumes to their business model and what this place lacks. Hopefully, this will be a lesson for their place of business, not a means to defend what they were not even present to see for themselves. Now we for sure won't be back out of principle. ---------------- Owner first defends their business as expected and to the degree of insinuating I cannot read a menu for the price and size of my cappuccino that I was more than willing to pay $5 for it was worthy. Now I know we all made the correct decision NEVER to go back and give them another try because this is obviously how they operate. Not often do I find myself in historic Liberty - shame really because it is a beautiful area - but when I am here, visiting a local coffee shop is a must! Hammerhand has fufilled its niche well. The shop itself is bright and spacious with clean colors and modern seating arrangements. Hopefully, when they make a transition to the new shop, they keep these same elements! No complaints about their drinks or food offerings. Baked goods and breakfast items are provided from local food sources (egg burritos from Scratch Bakery). Two thumbs up! Last visit, I tried their seasonal latte - a cane sugar raspberry flavor - which had a nice balance. I like studying here, but during my last visit, the wi-fi was unreliable (probably just a kink). What a cute place, from the old brick outside to the fresh interior. My iced vanilla latte was very enjoyable and even had vanilla beans floating around: seemingly hand crafted syrups, very nice! My coffee mates had pour over coffee and a latte. We sat for a little while sipping coffee and chatting and enjoyed the environment, some talking, some with computers, some just in and out. Friendly and accomodating staff. I do recommend and will be back. Parking could be a tough one, depending on time of week and day. read more

I love the idea of them having a little waffle pop up. It went well with the coffee. I got a black coffee to go and it seemed a bit pricey. But who knows the beans they used might cost more. As I've gotten to know Liberty Square better, I've also gotten to know Hammerhand better. Hammerhand is definitely a place worth getting to know. At first, I thought the coffee was too strong and the atmosphere was too industrial. In the last year, I've seen so many improvements in areas of their products and atmosphere. So many great options have been added to the menu - milkshakes, lemonades, teas, even kombucha, and they have a lot of great food as well. The atmosphere as also improved tenfold in the last year. Now there is indoor ledge seating open upstairs, the back room is perfect for studying, and window seating lets in the perfect amount of sunlight. I'll admit, I was quick to judge Hammerhand. I dismissed it, and I shouldn't have. So here's to many more visits, and many more lavender lemonades. read more

This by far the best coffee place I have ever been to. They offer a variety of options and have almond and soy milk if you can't have dairy! The atmosphere is cute and trendy with quite a bit of sitting space that makes it perfect for studying. The staff is friendly and the service is quick. I have been here numerous times with an excellent experience every time. I highly recommend this spot to anyone who is looking for a coffee place. The menu is not extensive, but the quality is top notch. The cortado ($3.90) was the best I've had. The coffee menu is limited to latte, cappuccino, cortado or brewed, and then a brewed tea and chai latte ($4.50). That's it in terms of the coffeehouse. They also have a lunch menu and beer/wine. Just moved to the area and tried Hammerhand a few days ago. I had a cup of the drip coffee and a blueberry scone. The coffee was good -- strong but not bitter. The scone was big (which I appreciate) and it had a good amount of berries but it could have been a little moister and more buttery. Good scone but not great. The setting is super cool. I believe it is an old bank. And the location right on the square means you can go for a fun stroll afterward with coffee in hand. I will go again next time I'm in Liberty. read more

The coffee and snacks are good, and rarely disappoint me. However, the staff are very bland and don't really pay to much attention to the customers, and definitely are not working with their whole heart to ensure that customers are satisfied, which in my opinion is a dealbreaker. I, myself am addicted to iced almond milk lattes, and theirs was pretty good, but nothing special. I think that if the staff treated customers better it would boost the way I feel about the coffee as well. If you are addicted to coffee, and cute coffee shops, this place is great for you. I had the vanilla latte this morning and the rosemary scone. Both were very tasty. I met a friend and enjoyed time with her at a little corner table. There is a God! Liberty has been a coffee desert for too long, thankfully an oasis has cropped up for those who are tired of venti-pumpkin spice breves and burnt coffee... The place features great coffee from Counter Culture, a beer/wine menu covers some great craft staples, and some great baristas that make this place a winner. Lots of light and a great buildout by Second Life Std. make this place difficult to ever vacate - you just want to stay and enjoy it. It still has a few rough edges, kind of like an awesome new house with brand new furniture but that hasn't been fully unpacked yet. It feels like 95% done. Still needs to figure out some of the storage options to make the place feel more clean or less cluttered (not that it isn't, just speaking visually). This place was super impressive, just needs a little more polish for a 5*, but I assume thats in progress :) (EDIT: Just heard its a temporary space until their new buildout! I met a friend for breakfast and ordered the rosemary iced latte and homemade pop tart. They both were fantastic. The rosemary worked surprisingly well with the coffee, and the pastry on the pop tart was perfect. Before I left, I splurged and got another iced latte to go (this time, vanilla)(homemade syrups, btw), and it was equally delicious. I can't wait to go back. read more

On all my travels, I look for unique coffee houses and will venture far off the path if one looks worth visiting. This past trip took me to Missouri and Iowa. Liberty is a nice town with a beautiful square and this coffeehouse is right on the corner of the square. It's clean, comfortable (I sat up on the landing - lovey - with a truly good latte that was done with nice art. They are using quality grinders and espresso machines, and the barista clearly knew what she was doing. Staff were very friendly and helpful. This is a good find, and a walk around the square has some fun historical buildings - go discover it yourself! read more

I currently live in St. Louis and had a 4 year stint in Sydney, Australia before that so I am not a stranger to amazing coffee, both have a serious 3rd Wave scene going on. I come here almost daily. The staff is fantastic and so is the menu. This is the perfect place to catch up with friends or get some homework done. The atmosphere is casual with people of all ages coming and going. Both the staff and the other customers are great to get to know. Not to mention both inside and outside is adorable!!
