Owner Mike Marier knows the pool business, and does outstanding work. While we had a significant delay at the beginning (not the contractors fault), once work began it was done on a timely basis and done by Mike's professional staff. Mike made recommendations during the design phase that resulted in a beautiful pool that we are very happy with. He was able to design a decent sized pool in our small backyard that other companies could not. His staff also supports the pool maintenance after the pool was complete. When problems occur, and they will, Mike usually has a resolution, always keeping the customers desire to keep the costs down. I highly recommend his team of competent skilled technicians, especially Antonio, Noah, Sergio, Jesus, Luis, John, and Mike(s). If you are looking for a pool contractor, look no further. The service started fine for the first couple years but then the person doing the work moved into building pools and was replaced several times by people who had no idea how to balance pool chemicals or address problems. I have had several faulty valve actuators that, granted, was likely a manufacturers defect but it was like pulling teeth to get them to replace. I finally gave up and purchased and installed the actuators myself. They also did not clean the cartridge filter for an entire year and I had to replace it myself as well. The service turned into a weekly chlorine and acid dump with minimal vacuuming. They did not even check the water balance before adding chemicals. I was left with re-balancing my pool chemicals after most visits. Needless to say I no longer use there services. read more

Not a fan. I generally think Mike didn't really want to do our job, which was to move our pool equipment and remove the decking and re-deck a smaller area with a new pump and an auto-leveler. His demo was pretty sloppy - he had to remove some stepping stones from a gate area to get the bobcat in the backyard, which is OK, of course. However, he never put them back. He removed the old water fill line to the pool by leaving it connected to the water source and just cutting it off under the surface. After a couple of ignored requests, I just did the plumbing correctly myself. The water re-entry into the pool doesn't match the existing plaster (understandable), however, when he drilled the hole out to accommodate the new pump, a big chunk of plaster came loose and I think he wore a blindfold when he re-plastered the hole - uneven, not finished and the PVC end is not smooth, just hacked off uneven with the wall. He mis-estimated the concrete (separate contractor, but included in his bid) and I had to pay extra for the concrete (50% more) and then didn't provide an estimate for 'pour lids', so I had to pay the concrete guy extra for those. The pour lid for the auto-leveler doesn't work, so that was a waste of $300. I had to call him twice to get the old pool structure hauled away, he left a ton a crap in the area where I was going to put new lawn - pipe, trash, chunks of concrete, etc. - and I had to call him to program the pool filter a week and a half after he installed it. Now that the pool is warm, I dove down to the filter cover - naturally, it's only attached with one screw. Hammerhead Pools hammered us. read more

Updating my review based on my experience with Mike as it stands today. This review has nothing to do with the product itself, just the customer service. Originally I gave a 1 star review due to frustration that we spent 6 months waiting to hear back from Mike to move forward on building a pool. We finally gave up in May after our last email was unanswered. We are now moving forward with a different company. However, Mike's lack of response didn't sit well with me so I came here to let others know about my experience. Once Mike read my yelp review he immediately called and texted. He seemed defensive and put it back on me that I never responded to his bid. The next morning he discovered that he never sent the bid although he thought it was sent in March. He could have continued to claim he sent it and I didn't receive it but he actually owned up to not sending it and not following up and apologizing about the lack of communication. I very much appreciate his honesty so I came here to update my review. Bottom line is, if you want him to build your pool I would suggest calling, texting and emailing him to move forward. Or you could leave a Yelp review and you know he'll respond to that! Lol read more

We needed some documentation for the county to sign off on the permit and get it finaled and closed out. A few weeks ago, two years after he finished our pool, Mike came through for us with the documentation we needed to close out the permit. We'd have been in a bind had he not helped us out. Mike with Hammerhead Pools has always been very responsive every time I have needed his services. Most of the time he responds the same day as my request; even though I usually give him a 3-day window. He is very knowledgeable and promptly fixes the problem the first time. I have had a new pump installed, pool lights repaired and replaced; and a leaky hose that kept getting disconnected when the pressure built too much. He even threw in the parts for the last repair since he said he had them on his truck already. FINALLY, I found a pool company that I can trust to clean my pool so it looks like the resort pool I have always wanted. Over the past 10 years I have had 4 different pool services. All of them started out ok, but then after a few months, they spent less and less time cleaning. Then eventually, just running into my backyard, testing the chemicals and running back out. After being jacked around by all the big names in the area I was finally lucky enough to hear from Mike at Hammerhead. Not only did he show up to look at the problems that needed repair, but he actually followed up and came back despite being completely overbooked already. Not only was the work done and well, but they were able to get it finished before a major event at our home. Considering the amount of work done, I'd have to say the charges were more than reasonable and talk about dedication and commitment to quality. More than once during the project, either Mike or Michael (ya, two Mikes. Had me a bit confused for about 5 minutes) stopped, stepped back and rethought what they were into and how to best make repairs rather than sticking to an original plan blindly. I really appreciate that. I can't say enough how much I appreciate the hard work and professionalism from the guys at Hammerhead. Would have been 5 stars, but too many people (including myself) ignore 5star ratings. Work performed: Leak behind the light fixture that was THROUGH THE GUNITE and plaster surrounding the light fixture, not the light or conduit. This required deck and diving board removal to be able to dig down behind the light fixture, jack-hammering out the gunite that had eroded and plaster, replacing rebar (reinforced better than original, poured new cement, installed new light fixture, plastered and poured new deck. I was very disappointed with Mike at Hammerhead Pools. He came recommened to me from the pool builder for Start-up Service. I contacted him and and gave him the dates of completion of the pool, weeks before it was done. He wanted me to call back to confirm when I was ready (within two days) and I did. We set up a time, and he never showed. I called him back, no response. I left several messages, no response. I was stuck with out start up for a new pool ! STRESSFUL - He then called and set up another meeting and apologized saying he got me confused with another customer, AND another NO SHOW ! I finally called someone else, and it took some time to get things balanced. It was like he was not interested in my business ! After I finally hired someone else, he called and offered a free start up - several days later............great, after I already hired and paid someone else . Gee Thanks ! read more
