Little bit of a story, sorry. Wife's car slow leak on driver's front tire. Get home from work and try to tackle for her. Pulled up to Discount Tire...too close to closing time, wouldn't take me in...bull$hit. OK, go to National Tire, 45 min til closing and they check out tire in lot, say it's too close to sidewall and they cannot plug, needs a new tire which is out of stock...again, bull$hit...it's a honda pilot not a jaguar, there are a million on the road, standard tire. They were also closing up and didn't want to work. OK...on to Hamm's...pulled up, straight into stall, happy to have my business. Pulled tire and inspected it and found two punctures, neither near the sidewall. Plugged tire and I was off with the peace of mind that my wife and children are safe. Bye-bye Discount and NTB, I'm going to Hamm's from now on. BTW, Tito (manager) and Miguel were efficient, courteous and trustworthy. Good guys here. read more

The front end alignment part is a Joke, don't let them put your vehicle on the lift. You will be charged regardless, if your vehicle needs one or not. And they do alignments just by looking at it, no special alignment tools or nothing. The Mexican there use's vise grips to eyeball and align your tie rods, very half azz work. Don't let the 30 dollar alignment fool you. You will get what you pay for, a big nothing. Go somewhere else for a better professional alignment. read more

I bought some tires at another place, and decided to get them mounted here, I have been knowing these people for the last 20 or so years. Never had tires mounted with them but one thing is for sure I will try to avoid for my tire mounting needs. I was going to use my lunch hour to tackle several errands -- make a deposit at the bank, check out a product at the Apple store and pick up something that I left at home that I needed for work. I got into my dirty Ford Focus and cranked up "A Way With Words" On NPR. I was barely out of my parking spot on Canton St. in Deep Ellum before an NPR caller had my blood boiling: RADIO HOST: "...So, for our caller, once and for all -- when we say the word 'historic' and we are referring to a specific event -- is it, 'In the year 1992 A historic event occurred,' or is it, 'In the year 1992 AN historic event occurred?" "ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!" I screamed at the radio, "A historic, A historic, A HISTORIC!!! What an IDIOT!!" That's when I heard a... flap-flap-flap-flap-flap sound. I whipped my head around frantically trying to identify the source, but couldn't, so I cranked up NPR to mask it. CALLER: "Well, I had an English teacher who told me that AN historic is actually the correct way to --" "OH, you YOKEL!" I shouted, "Your English teacher was an idiot and so are you!" At this point, I was karate chopping my steering wheel, triggering little staccato honks as I pulled up to the stoplight. Then, mid-chop, I noticed an attractive young lady gesturing at me from her Lexus. I rolled down my passenger-side window, which resembled a child's finger painting, except instead of paint, bird shit, and prepared to break this woman's heart by explaining to her that I was married and not interested. Then she pointed at my back right tire and yelled, "You have a flat tire!" I acknowledged her with a wave and -- more privately -- soul-crushing humiliation. I pulled into a parking lot right next to my office. It was flat, alright. I jacked my car up and attempted to loosen the first nut. Nothing. I went around to each one and attempted to loosen it. Nothing was moving. I tried pushing, pulling and stomping and nothing would go. Then, with the wrench attached to the nut and parallel to the ground, I decided to stand on it. It STILL wouldn't move. I realized what I would have to do. Using my trunk as balance, I proceeded to hop up and down on the wrench, until with a "CRACK!!" that sounded like a gunshot, the nut finally loosened and I fell flat on my ass. I proceeded to use my kangaroo method on each nut until I had them all off, then I attached the spare and cried softly in my front seat. An hour later, I called my office and asked if anyone knew a tire repair store in the area. The recommendation was Hamm's Tire Inc on Carroll. "It's not in the best part of town, but they're great and cheap," said our business manager. Boy! She wasn't kidding. This was the sort of place where you might witness a bum fight or a haphazardly performed alleyway sex act in exchange for meth. However, it was also where Hamm's Tire Inc was located, at the corner of 30 and Carroll. So watch out, crackheads, here I come! The attendant took one look at my tire and said that the belt had been punctured and it was unrepairable. I've heard that before, and $25 seemed extremely reasonable to me to just replace the damn thing with a used tire, so that's what they did... all in under 15 minutes. The service was courteous, professional and they didn't seem interested in up-selling me like they would at an NTB. 5 stars. Best tire place in North Texas and it isn't close. Fast service, the guys are all nice and work hard, and it's affordable. Sure, the wait can sometimes be a little long, but if you can put it off until not going during peak times, you'll be in and out. Plus, what other tire service place is open until midnight? The other day I got another flat. After discovering at Discount Tire that getting a free patch on my tire would require a 35 to 40 minute wait, I decided to take my car to Hamm's. There, my tire was fixed in about five minutes, and it only cost me $7. That's what I love about Hamm's. It's quick and inexpensive. Another thing won me over when I went there to get a previous flat tire fixed. I didn't have enough cash on hand (it was my first time, and I thought they took credit cards). The employee suggested I drive down the road to the ATM at the 7-11. Granted, I could have driven off and never returned, but he trusted me to come back and pay him, and I did. It's extremely rare nowadays to find companies so trusting of their customers. That, to me, knocks this place into five-star heaven. read more

So many independent businesses have been forced to the sidelines by big box retailers offering lower prices and a more reliable customer experience. It's a long sad story. That's why i take time to pass along my experience at Hamm's Tires. They have not fallen prey to this trend and stand out as a real value offering I'll go back to in the future. I purchase tires from Discount Tires. There just doesn't seem to be anyone competing on price and quality. But, this time, even their pricing seemed high. So I searched tire stores nearby and stumbled across Hamms. I called, spoke with the manager (an employee for over 25 years I learn later in the day), received a quote over the phone, had him lookup the UTQG ratings on the tires and could not believe the price. I reserved four tires for my Hyundai Genesis sedan and paid about $150 less than comparable offerings from Discount Tires. UTQG ratings stands for the Uniform Tire Quality Grading System, an industry-wide standard rating for temperature, traction and treadware - A,B or C for each, high to low. I drove over, met the manager, made the purchase and began what is normally a 45 - 60 minute wait. I was amazed by the speed and accuracy of their operation. These people sell some tires. No hydraulic lifts, no service bays. The place looks like an old drive-in hamburger joint. You drive up to an open lane, a service sets 4 floor jacks, one by each wheel, jacks up your car, removes the wheels, finds out what you have purchased, mounts the new tires, balances and installs them and you're out of there literally in about 20 - 25 minutes, period. It was so fast that I had to stop and ask the service tech if he replaced the automatic tire sensors. He said yes, they were still good and didn't need replacing. OBTW Discount tires charges you $10 or so for each tire sensor, whether you need a new one or not. There goes $40 bucks right there. They must stock over 500 tires. There is nothing but tires floor to ceiling, wall to wall throughout the place. They have been in business since 1954. I love family businesses that know and care about what they're doing, whether it's hamburgers, auto repair or tires. And Hamms is definitely one of these places. read more

The Nissan dealership said there was no way to fix my tire that had a nail in it and that I'd need a new one for $170. I go to Hamm's and said I need a new tire. I called and they said used one would be $35-40 and new around $90. I went there and told them about Nissan and they laughed at that! They said that they "Oh sugar, I can just can just repair it because you definitely don't need a new tire!" Best part? The repair was only $8!! What an amazingly ethical place! Not gonna lie, I've never been too sure of this place. That neighborhood is sketch! But hey, I needed a tire at a good price so I went in today. It was super crowded being Sunday but they still got me out of there with a good used tire in about 15 minutes (and only $30!) It's like a NASCAR pit crew! You sit in your car and play a couple rounds of Candy Crush while they do all the work, then you pay and get on with your life! They sell new tires too and patch flats! I am never waiting for hours (or spending $100s!) in a Discount Tire again! My favorite part is even though there were like 10 cars there when a little old lady pulled in to just get air in her tires someone ran out and quickly filled them up, for free! I had been driving around for more than 2 weeks, constantly filling up my rear passenger side tire. I knew something wasn't right, but I dreaded taking it in for fear that someone would con me into buying brand new tires. But I knew I couldn't keep it up for long, and through Yelp, I discovered Hamm's. I stopped in on a cold, rainy night, and a guy immediately came over to help me. He said he would check it and let me know. I stepped into the office and waited, this foreboding feeling coming over me. About 10 minutes later, the guy walked in and said I had a nail in my tire. I meekly asked him if there was any way it could be patched, and he said "Yeah, it's like, 7 bucks.". WHOA. I breathed a huge sigh of relief and sat back down. Not only was the service friendly...it was FAST, too. I was in and out of there in less than half an hour, and my tire has not been problematic since then. I know if I had gone to discount tire, I would have been another potential cash cow to them, so it felt nice to not be taken for a ride. Seriously, 7 bucks is cheap, y'all. Great service, very honest. I've been here twice: for tires and once for alignment/tie rod installation. Both times have simply asked what were you quoted and honor whatever the guy(2-3 days before) quoted me on the phone, and didn't even check to make sure-- then charged me less! My two front tires were bald. They barely passed inspection a year ago and my inspection was due last month. I found myself short on cash... What to do? I remembered a place from about 20 years ago that sold used tires in Dallas and was open 24 hours. I thought maybe I should use google to try and find it. Sure enough, I pulled up to the place I had been to eons ago. This place has been around forever with good reason - they're quick, they have tires for you, and they're nice. What more could you want? The part of town is rough. That's Dallas for you! No matter what part of Dallas you're in, there is a bad area right close by. I felt safe from the minute I drove up. I got out of my car and kept my keys - they replace your tires on the spot! The guys that work there are nice so if you're feeling apprehensive about the neighborhood, they can put you at ease. This place is basic, you wait outside. Who cares? You're not there long enough to need a waiting area. I drove away with two matching front tires, seventy dollars total. It took less than 20 minutes. Amazing place! I usually go to Discount Tires, but on the advice of a friend decided to try Hamm's Tire to replace an old tire. Only $30 (for a used tire) and about 15 minutes of my time and I was back on the road! The tread on the used tire is respectable and well worth the fact that it was a third of the price I normally payed for Discount's cheapest. The guy who helped us was very friendly, or at least politely efficient (something I greatly appreciate). Were my other tires not practically new, I would have taken advantage of their Free alignment with the purchase of 4 tires. I stopped in today because I was getting a little low on the rubber. I pulled up, was greeted, and had 4 new tires in my car within 20 minutes. I pulled around back and waited about 30 minutes before they could get my car on a lift for alignment and another 45 until they got around to working on it and got me out. Man, this place is fast and affordable! It's like visiting a dive restaurant and getting a gourmet meal. I had a tire go flat due to sidewall damage and was looking to find a used identical replacement since the rest of my tires performed well and had more than 60% tread left. After you tubing how to change a flat, I gave up and called my friend who helped me out and then I drove straight to Hamm's on the recommendation of several friends. Wow. It's like a little factory here. Quickest in and out I've ever had for car service. Took 20 minutes for my new tires to be installed. I had called the day before, the tires were ordered and arrived today, and voila! My baby was ready to go. If you buy 4 new tires, you get a free wheel alignment. There were four cars in front of me, which made my total wait time an hour after I got my new tires on (you have to drive around to the side of the building for alignments), but I still can't complain. I got my tires for $200 hundred dollars less than I would have anywhere else, and the gentleman who ordered my tires knocked $40 off the original quote because they weren't able to get the tires on the same day. Had a flat tire and needed AAA for a tow. It was after 6 pm and started researching places that might be open in the area. This place is open till midnight (not 8pm as stated on YELP). The tow and tire change took less than an hour. Hamm's was super swamped with people pulling in every minute. They approached me and within fifteen minutes I was in and out for $40. Just like everyone else says, if you have anything wrong with your tire, bring it here without an appointment, and you'll be done in under 15 minutes. I kept on having a low tire pressure light come up, and saw a visible staple in my back tire. Brought my car in to a bustling shop and they took care of it right away, and found 2 additional staples/nails in my tire. Ouch! The whole patching process took about 10 minutes, and I was charged $10 for the operation, as I had multiple patches that needed to be made. read more
