The chicken dry pot had a hefty portion of chicken and several juicy shiitake mushrooms (my love), but wasn't spicy at all despite being the spiciest menu item. They also skimped on the vegetables. The West Lake beef soup was tasty (but mostly because of the obligatory MSG). The rice, however, was absolutely disgraceful. It was dry, hard, and absolutely inedible. I'll admit I first tried Han Dynasty only because it's the taste place that's open past midnight, but wow, it really exceeded our expectations. It's rare to find a restaurant that produces authentic Sichuan food AND also has a good selection of green vegetables, AND isn't overly greasy. Han Dynasty delivers all three. Plus if anybody in your party can't handle spicy food, that's no problem either. They'll adjust to your desired spice level, even if that level is zero -- and the food will still be flavorful (looking for an interesting dish that's mild? One of my favorite spots when I'm craving Sichuan food (which happens a lot). We generally order delivery from this location since it's the closest one to us but have dined in once as well. For dine-in, though it's located in Dekalb Market, they have a proper, fairly large dining area and is definitely a bustling spot. Service was pretty good overall. Now, on to the food: Our favorites include their Dry Pot Fish, Hot Sauce Style (have had both fish and shrimp), Garlic Sauce Shrimp (really good!), Dan Dan Noodles (no meat), and Fried Rice. All of this seriously hits the spot every time! My only couple downsides are that it can get a little loud inside and that it's a bit pricey (although similar to other Sichuan restaurants). Regardless, this would be a great place to bring someone from out of town! My friend and I dropped by this BK location for Han Dyanasty on a Friday night. The wait was really short (10 minutes) compared to the normal Manhattan wait times. We enjoyed a fantastic meal, because the restaurant had a ton of open spots, we were able to stay and chat for a long period of time which we appreciated! If you are looking for really spicy Szechuan food, maybe look elsewhere. Han Dynasty is a great tasty modern Szechuan spot but is a little more tame on the spice. I expected myself to be crying after ordering one of their spiciest dishes - the dry pot, but that wasn't the case. We got: Dan dan noodles (6/10 spice level) - got this appetizer and ate it like an entree. It was tasty with its chili/peanut sauce. I do wonder if they could have added more sauce to up the spiciness Eggplant w/ garlic sauce (3/10 spice) - a classic executed with lots of flavor and a great pairing to our noodles and the bowl of rice the dish came with Dry pot w/ fish (10/10 spice) - the fish is really good! I think the spice level was definitely tame for their spiciest level, but I was happy with it being tamer and not needing some milk based drink to quench the spice. Dry pepper chicken wings (8/10 spice) - the skin on the wing was super crispy and freshly deep fried - a tasty appetizer Overall, Han Dynasty is a great spot for a chill meal with some spice. Terrible. When Han Dynasty first came to NYC from Philly many years ago it was one of my favorite restaurants. Now it's just a shell of what it was. Spicy dry pot chicken (fried) was mushy and had no flavor: I ordered EXTRA spicy level 10++ and it had less heat than a buffalo wing. Not only didn't it not taste spicy but just didn't have flavor at all. The sesame noodles were a disgrace, Trader Joe's make at home sesame noodles are by far much better. These were congealed, and had no sauce or flavor. It was like a tub of plain spaghetti. I hate 1/3 of it out of desperation and left the rest $50 thrown away for no reason. I could have gotten better food at a hood joint down my block. Such a shame it changed so so so much. read more

Super mid. The dumplings and atmosphere/location was pleasant and trendy with a lot to do around, but that was it. The food felt and tasted fake. Like something out of the frozen section in a grocery store. The service was a 0 out of 10 also in terms of our waitress. We saw her twice, and one of those times was due to us having to ask for her. Never checked on anything. Barely interacted with us at all. Not friendly or warm whatsoever we barely even got greeted. The cleaning team was on top of their stuff though. Working their butt off going from table to table as fast as possible. A+ for them but overall I definitely wouldn't come back here. The food is rather authentic to traditional Chinese flavours but the ambience and style of the overall restaurant and concept screams fusion. If you can't finish, it holds up well for a day or two 2) long pepper with beef: has a pinch of spice and also pairs well with rice, like the eggplant dish, has good reheat value 3) three cup chicken: this traditional dish by flavour should be a bit crisp, this restaurant has the sauce down but the crisp takes away from it and makes it a tad bit dry Given the lack of many good authentic local Chinese that do this sort of regional cuisine, if you are in the local area and you need a bite of Chinese, this is a place for you. Otherwise, if you are willing to travel, there are a couple other ones that should be on your radar! Got delivery from this one on a Sunday evening - General Chang's chicken and dumplings in chili oil - and both were very obviously not fresh. I won't order from here again. A good portion of the dumplings were falling apart, but this is likely due to how it was packed up to go, which is hard to get right so can't complain. Came here after work and happened to get there just in time to catch the lunch special which was $19.90 for lunch entrees + one cold app + one hot app. I selected the Salt & Pepper Shrimp which was great. I've never had it, so I didn't know what to expect. It was pretty tasty, but I still added their chili oil and some soy sauce which kicked the flavor profile up a notch. I love this gem. Fresh food always. I love that each dish can be customized for spice/heat level. My not so spicy loving friends can come dine and I can ramp up the heat in my dishes to the highest levels. The food is always flavorful and fresh . Work on that one server! I came to the restaurant because I saw it on Pulsd and wanted to give it a try. I waited until the very last day to use the voucher but I made it! The voucher stated you had to make reservations but when I called the person who picked up the phone stated I could walk in. Located in the Dekalb Market I found it accessible and walked in easily. There wasn't much of a wait and the restaurant wasn't fully packed. When I sat down, there was a few minutes before I was acknowledged. This server somewhat bypassed me and talked to the adjacent tables next to me. Which instantly gave me bad vibes. When I gave a somewhat look of confusion he acknowledged me and asked if I needed something. I stated yes, as I never got water, utensils , or anything. I told him I was ready to order and that I had a Pulsd voucher and this server told me that it was no longer being accepted there. That was news to me as I called earlier and it was not stated. I showed him the expiration date which clearly stated today and he said oh he'll be back. He never came back to apologize about his mistake and never spoke to me until it was time to place the check on my table somewhat rushing me because he was not my waiter in the end. So that was rude. At the point of him dropping the check on my table I was waiting for my wine which my actual server who came to help me after the rude server walked away, was bringing for me. Thankfully that nicer waiter came along and helped the experience because it was surely going downhill very fast. As for the food. It was ok . I got the pepper wings which were tasty and crispy. The Pork Fried rice which was good. Which it was a little bit more fried. I also got shrimp in garlic sauce that stated it came with a few things, however there was nothing but sauce and shrimp. Was it life changing no. However, not bad. I wish they didnt bring everything to the table at the same time. It somewhat just rushed the dining process.
