This place is so authentic and fresh. Everything I've had is SOOO GOOD. The basil cilantro soup has to be one of my absolute favorite things to eat. A must try! The spicy Szechuan beef soup is also very tasty, which holds different kinds of beef inside. For appetizers, the pork belly buns have to be the best in Rochester. I have tried many different places, but the pork belly here is so tender and you can't beat the price! The fried kimchi chicken dumplings are amazing. I'm happy to say I was wrong about Han, though I'm rounding my 3.5 star rating down to 3 because I recently got two desserts for takeout and they were just okay. We decided to try Han again last night. As you have probably read in my previous review, my last experience was lackluster, at best, and I walked away disappointed by a restaurant that had so much potential. I decided to give it a few months to improve and came back on a rainy Thursday night. I immediately took note of the decor changes. The old tables and chairs had become completely replaced by newer, more high-end versions, and there no longer existed the table in the corner where everyone faced the wall (or as I like to think of it, "the bad kids table"). I was impressed by the upgrade and I hoped the service was more attentive than last time. It was decent. Granted, there were only like five people in the whole restaurant and we didn't get our tea until AFTER we were done with our appetizers, but for the most part, all of our needs were met. We ordered the pork belly buns to start. They were as amazing as I remembered them and we placed another order immediately after finishing our first order. Recalling my disappointment with my broth noodles last time, I opted for the wok fried Cantonese roast pork noodle and my girlfriend got the veggie lo mein. Our dishes were both good, not great. The light coating of spiciness on my noodles was nice, but the roast pork itself was indistinguishable from the pork used in lo mein and fried rice in most restaurants in the city. The price was great though. $23 for two mains, two orders of delicious buns, and two pots of tea is a good deal. Afterward, I spoke with the owner and suggested that he should consider making a red bean dessert bun. He said he would experiment with it and see if it made sense. I've been coming to Han's for a decade. It's BYOB which is amaze, bring an bottle of wine or beer! But also the food is delish and if you sit up on the counter you can watch them make it. Got recommended to go there by a friend, and it's the most authentic Chinese place I've been to yet in Rochester. I recommend their pork belly buns appetizer, sooo good! As for the main dish, you can't go wrong. Their noodles are freshly made and you can see them cooking it. I prefer rice dishes myself, so I got the roast pork and duck rice dish, and it was really delicious. The only downside is the size of the restaurant. It can be a bit cramped, and since so many people come, there might be a little waiting time before you're seated. Also, parking was a bit difficult. They do have a small parking lot, but as they're really busy, parking spots are usually filled. Gotta fight for that delicious food! XD read more

What a cute little place! I've passed by here probably thousands of times and a friend wanted to stop in today and I'm so glad we did. It is perfect comfort food for the cold, dreary, and damp weather. We had the crab Rangoon which were the rare kind not entirely made of cream cheese and fried to perfection. I had the schezuan beef noodles which were just the right amount of spicy but a bit too salty for my taste. Also tried were the pho, pad Thai, and fried squid. My husband and I were interested in trying out this place. We ordered the Braised Pork Belly stuffed steam bun, the Spicy Diced Chicken stuffed steam bun, B13 (Zha Jiang Mein), and B3 (Dan Dan Mein). Out of all the items we ordered, I only liked picking out the spicy battered chicken bits out of the bun. The pork belly was overly fatty and I didn't really care for the seasoning; the Zha Jiang Mein had a bland black bean sauce, while the Dan Dan Mein's sauce had a kick and tasted a tad bit better, but only when you're forced to choose between the two! While the menu items were nicely priced (noodles were $7 and the pork buns were $4), and they gave you a sickening amount of noodles for a serving, we left being pretty disappointed. I've been coming here for a few years now, and this is the one of my favorite restaurants in Rochester. The food is always delicious and the portions are great. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They're patient and will explain how an order is prepared if you have never tried it before. The cumin lamb is my personal favorite, I just wish it had slightly less bell peppers and onions (even though they taste great when you eat it with the lamb and rice). I've had the squid with bok choy, the house roast duck, cumin beef, pork belly, steamed dumplings, and a few other things that I may not be able to remember, and the only thing I would improve is making the duck less greasy. I've had duck at some restaurants that was unbearably greasy, and Han Noodle Bar prepares theirs well; however, it would be better for to go orders and prevent the skin from getting a little soggy. Overall, this is a must try Chinese restaurant if you're visiting Rochester, or you're just been curious about what they have to offer. I honestly eat here multiple times a week and don't ever get sick of it. To start off as far as the ambiance, Han may not be the fanciest of places but it offers a cool and clean vibe. I will admit I love even the chopstick lock on the bathroom. This spot is fast and cheap, consistently offering some of the best bites in Rochester. To begin I order apps on apps on apps. The scallion pancakes are seriously EVERYTHING, and I am guilty of ordering multiple orders of just these sometimes (don't forget to top with some Sriracha). Crab Rangoon, paired with a mango chili dipping sauce, and the pork belly buns are among my other favorites. All the apps in general are quite tasty and addicting! There are a wide variety of entrees depending on what you like. Han offers large portions of soup, noodle, and rice dishes. I prefer a non-broth dish so I usually lean towards the Singapore Meifun (chicken pork, shrimp and egg in yellow curry), Zha Jiang Mein (pork in a bean sauce), or the Beef Hofen, which are definitely the standouts. As far as the other exceptional entrees go I would recommend the basil cilantro noodles, spicy chicken miso, or the beef brisket noodle bowl. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. My trips here were enjoyable (only 2, so far). I came with different groups of friends each time. Both times I was semi-confused on parking. On the side street HNB borders, there was a small slab big enough for 4 cars... there were 3 there when I drove. I wasn't sure if that spot was for me (Or customers of this place in particular), but I made it for me temporarily. Whoops? Upon walking in the first time we were greeted by a friendly hostess who led us to a seat. There were two of us. The atmosphere was quiet, nice, and overall very friendly. There was only 1 other table of customers. Our waitress came over and began to take our orders. We each got the same thing, the Cantonese Noodle & Pork buns. The pork bun was very good. They were made slightly different from how my family makes them, but I enjoyed those differences greatly. The pork was very juicy and tasted great. I loved it so much that I made a mental note to order them every time. The noodles came out shortly after, they were made well enough. I'd give them a 4/5. After our food was done we kinda just sat waiting around for our check, and after we got the check, another wait for it to be grabbed. I LOVED the service while we were eating, but the wait after we finished was a 'meh'. The second time was a bit different. I went there with a group of friends, 4 of us in total. Since I didn't drive this time, my friend parked on the street. We walked in and found seating rather quickly. The atmosphere was a bit more lively as there were more tables this time. I don't rate restaurants based on patrons, and I won't deduct points.. but it's worth pointing out. One of my friends is very poor in English and she will frequently substitute a word out for Cantonese if she doesn't know it in English. The people sitting next to us seemed offended by this and kept glaring over at our table every time she had to do it...not sure what to make of that, or if those types of customers are frequently there but it made us feel awkward enough to remember it. The service was great starting up, friendly, attentive, and helpful. I recommended the pork buns to all my friends, and we all got an order. I wasn't alone in loving them again, as all my friends agreed they tasted amazing. My friend also ordered spring rolls, which although I didn't try, she said tasted amazing and she was pleased. All of our meals came out and were good. I don't remember everything ordered, since we kinda all shared everything, but nothing on the table was bad by any means. Once the table next to us left, the atmosphere seemed as friendly as it did my first visit (even with it still being more crowded). This time the wait for the check was shorter, but, still kinda had to do the one-arm-cocked-awkwardly-with-2-fingers-up to get the check. I have eaten here more times than I can remember. My first experience with Han Noodle Bar was back in 2010 and discovering it back then was like a holly grail experience. It was super tasty, cheap and reliable. It is still my favorite Chinese restaurant in Rochester. Since then, I feel like the quality has decreased a little and the prices have gone up. Don't get me wrong I definitely will continue to eat here, I did just this week, but with less frequency as before. They have an incredibly unique menu which makes me a big fan. This is the only place i know that sells scallion pancakes. Some of my favorite dishes are the spicy peanut fried tofu appetizer, which is bomb-digit-ty. I wish they would use this sauce on more dishes because its easily my favorite part about Han. I also like the beef hofen noodles with beans- this dish NEVER disappoints. Hello and GOOD BYE Today my bf and I were excited to get to finally order for take out at Han Noodle bar on Monroe and were greatly disappointed. I don't know how this place has such fantastic reviews when the food was the most bland forgettable experience. I wish I could get my $35 back for leaving me with an empty stomach from being so turned off by what I received in our take out order. Today we ordered: Sesame chicken, General tso's chicken, Lo mien and chicken fried rice. The chicken in the sesame meal was almost, if not completely inexistent. The sauce was very sour, thin and not what sesame should taste like at all. And the few bites of chicken what we did get that weren't 90% sponge-like breading and 10% tendony-chewy meat, was flavorless and had an off putting texture. (Probably the worst thing in our order.) The lo mien was last luster and bland but the noodles were okay. The chicken fried rice only came with three pieces of chicken and onions. I was confused when it didn't come with any mixed vegetables like every other place I've ordered from. The entire meal didn't have any soy sauce in it like it should and lacked basic flavor. I feel like if you can't make a decent fried rice then that says something. The general tso's chicken was better and had okay amounts of chicken. Again, the flavor was bland for what you'd expect from a well reviewed place. I'm frustrated because this place literally has radio ads for saying they're "food people"but in reality was more like "Chinese prison food people". read more

So I been here a few time and I love the food, they taste delicious. They have wide variety to choose from and very authentic dishes that go with white rice. Their noodle are good, but in my opinion not good enough for my Asian taste. On the other hand, dishes like Cumin Lamb and Diced Spicy Chicken taste amazing. They are stir fried just right with enough spice and melt as you chew them. (Check out the photos in my account) In addition, they don't have much variety of drink, only Pepsi, Green tea and Jasmine tea. They do give you cold water when you come in though. Very nice waitresses. But beware, the restaurant's space is limited and can be very crowded during weekend. Also, you will cover with the smell of food after you done eating at the restaurant, because the kitchen is open right next to the sitting area. I've driven by this place so many times, happy to say I finally stopped in! My daughter wanted sesame chicken, I just wanted dinner. This place looked great to me, so after finding parking, we popped in. Friday night, the place had a decent amount of people in it, and it filled up fast! Their bao buns were delicious, with the steamed bun having that squishy bounce I was anticipating. The sesame chicken was served in a decent portion size, and the bowl of rice was more than adequate. I tasted it, it was really good with the proper amount of sweetness and fried coating that one would expect from a higher priced venue. I ordered the chuanjiao chicken, which was slamming. A spicy bean sauce coated it in all of its glorious thin sliced majesty, with huge cuts of peppers, onions and celery. This is seriously a new fave of mine! Not all Hans are created equal. Han Noodle Bar has been a hopping dinner spot in Rochester for several years now, so I figured it must be pretty good. There must be some sort of secret ingredient in the soup because I can't believe how that many people make Han their go-to noodle stop. One thing I can understand is the pricing. Don't get me wrong, I love cheap eats as much as the next guy, but sometimes you can't justify the cost. The scallion pancake was only a few dollars, but we shouldn't have been surprised when a single pancake with sour cream arrived; you get what you pay for. My house noodles sounded great with a combination of different meats and veggies. It all clicked when I found myself served "house special" lo mein in chicken broth. I was so disappointed by the lack of imagination and creativity. The shrimp were even the tiny, "shrimp-sized" ones they use in fried rice. When I tasted my boyfriend's roast duck noodles, I realized meat was the only thing that set our dishes apart; we were all drinking the same broth. Luckily the entire meal cost less than $10pp. However, I was severely disappointed. Kudos to the owner for running such a successful enterprise. Quaint noodle bar on Monroe Ave. The menu is extensive. Noises level is high and for some reason it sounded like someone was knocking over chairs, or dropping glasses and dishwater every few minutes. Very strange. We Started with the pork belly steamed buns based on recommendations and that seams to be what you get when you go here. They were tasty, and interesting. I'm glad that I tried them once, but, I don't think I would get them again. I also ordered a shrimp spring roll. It was tasty. I ordered the noodle and broth bowl for my daughter, it was literally just vegetable stock and noodles. Not much flavor. I wasn't really impressed. For my main course I went safe and got the beef lomein. It was tasty and fresh. Portion size was decent. The beef itself was a little tough. The service was quick, but the server dos not seam very helpful. I'm not sure if they serve more than just water because I was never asked if I would like anything besides the water given to me when i sat down. Also, no mention of specials or suggestions etc. about the extensive menu. I'm assuming maybe it was her first night. My go to Chinese restaurant particularly for noodle dishes. One of the few places I've taken my parents, who felt that the food was quite good, which is high praise. To be honest, I have never ordered from the "popular Chinese dishes" section of the menu. I prefer the "uncommon" dishes, which are more typical for home cooking. Of those, the pork belly buns are good, noodle broth dishes are pretty good and filling, and the Mapo tofu and beef brisket clay pot are terrific. Only regret - the Fairport store is closed. My husband and I got: Pork belly buns $5 for two - yummmmy!!! The pork belly was crispy and tender at the same time. Loved the crispy shallots and peanut relish as well. Roasted pork belly $6 - salty with a hint of sweetness and 5 spice powder. Really good! Very tender annnnnnnnnnnd they give you so much. Brisket clay pot $14 - so much freaking food. Tendons were absolutely melt in your mouth. They ran out of daikon but they put tofu instead. Stilllll really great. All the veggies inside the clay pot were so fresh as well! Pork belly noodles $10? Very light broth and the noodles itself was also light. The pork belly was again very tender and crispy at the same time. My husband enjoyed it alot. I can't get too upset at Han since this is SOP for Rochester restaurants. Yelp tells us to be cognizant of COVID when reviewing, but I also feel that if my business was in an existential crisis I'd try to make sure my customers received what they bought and paid for. I had a quick lunch with a friend here. I've had different versions of Dan Dan Mien 担担面 and this time, the texture of the noodles was way off. Despite the "no fusion" slogan, judging by this dish alone, I'm confident to say this is in fact fusion. And that's Okay because I just want to point out why a different type of noodle can make the dish better. I did not mind that the minced pork was overly sauced. HOWEVER, the noodles, being soft in its pre-cooking phase, were too soft to the extent that they just broke into shorter strips when stirred to mix with the sauce. Now, think about how they play texture in sandwich, salad, or sushi: there has to be a crunchy or somewhat chewy element to jazz up the game (if you watch Chopped, you know what I'm talking about). In short, this is simply not the type of noodle for this dish. It'd be better to have a type that tastes like pasta al-dente. Or at least, to have an option available on the menu would be ideal. In order to have noodles al-dente, one is cooking time, the other how it's made. Gluten holds the structure and gluten forms through working the dough many times. I could blame the time lag between finishing the dish and serving it to me but ultimately, I don't think that's the case. read more

I always enjoy dining here, the food and the service are high quality. But today threw me a bit of a curve. For starters, I shared an order of Steamed Buns filled with spicy chicken. I've never had these before, but I guarantee you I'll be having them again....BY MYSELF!!! I'm trying to decrease my bulk a bit, so I had Pork and Cabbage filled dumplings. As usual, very good. But not usual was the dipping sauce. It tasted just like vinegar. I know they can do better and I suspect they will in the future. Everyone has an off day, then again, maybe it was me. Han Noodle was the first place I tried pork belly buns in Rochester. My first tasting was in NYC and it's hard to compare when I was blown away by that place. The pork belly at Han's is flavorful and tasty with a slight crisp on the outside but disappointed by the bun itself. It didn't melt in my mouth like my first experience elsewhere. It is soft but doughy . It is something I recommend others to try because it does taste good just know that their buns are not perfect. We got 2 noodle broths (pork belly and tendon) and also a Szechuan sauces covered beef tendon as can appetizer. The beef tendon appetizer was as delicious as any other I have ever had. Wish everything else went as well but it just went downhill from there. Service was quick to take your order but after that it was hard to even flag out the waitresses that were day dreaming and staring blankly out the door window. For the pork belly noodle broth, they used yellow ramen noodles which was overcooked (not just a little, but rather by WAY too much). It was probably done like 10 mins before they brought it out to us because it took them ~15 mins to bring out the broths. The pork was okay but nothing spectacular. Broth by itself was yummy! The tendon broth was pretty similar. Noodles this time was the thick white noodles almost like udon but not as thick. It was completely undercooked. Tasted pretty much like raw dough and as bland as can be. The soup itself was delicious. Tendons were okay but nothing I would recommend a friend. Not as tendon or flavorful as ones I have elsewhere. Food probably could've been all delicious had they taken care of the noodles. Portions are very good especially for the price. Service I can overlook. I just wish the noodles didn't taste like some chef went on a smoke break after placing one noodle in and then come back only to realize the first one was overcooked and he forgot the other order...
