Because their AYCE is made to order, so we really didn't understand the logic behind of being "too late" no AYCE but can cook individual entrees made to order lol Anyways, food came out fast and we were rushed to be out of door by 10:00pm sharp with full house waitress staring at us so unprofessional and rude. Place is somewhat newly decorated so looks clean, however the food are rather bland and oily with no memorable attributes. We"ll never come back. BTW, mandatory 20% service charge is such a joke, such approach encourages nothing else besides rude attitudes and rough service bcoz service personnel tends to take it for granted. Their Tyson's Corner location serves fresh and quality dim sum so we were excited to try AYCE out. The quality of food was definitely lower and the options were much more limited but for AYCE expectations, that was definitely acceptable. We would not take AYCE at Han Palace over their traditional dim sum a la carte. Some of the AYCE dim sum tasted like they were previously frozen and not freshly prepared like their other location. However, they offer an option to add on bottomless mimosas/maitai/lemon drops for an additional $18 which we had never seen before at a dim sum spot and sounded like a great deal but we did not try it. My daughter had heard great things about this restaurant and wanted to check it out while we were in the area. I'm so glad we stopped here. The restaurant has a small dining area with bar seating. So it should be plenty of time but at around 9:35 you can feel the pressure to leave. The waiters stare at you, one made the comment repeatedly that they were closed at 9:45 as she cleaned the bar. We definitely felt pushed out. We were aware that the kitchen closed at 9:30, because they told us multiple times. But, apparently it's not just the kitchen that closes, but also the bar because they don't want to service anymore drinks after 9:30 as well Even though we got the bottomless drinks. After we asked, they eventually did give us another round of drinks at 9:30, but they skipped my friend who had an empty drink. And didn't give us any refills after that. It also wasn't just us. A table of young ladies behind us that were laughing and having a good time were stared at by the staff so harshly that I thought they might kick them out. These ladies were minding their business they were laughing a little loudly but it was all in good fun and this is a restaurant. I felt uncomfortable with how hard they were staring at them and felt bad. When we asked to split the bill, that seemed to also be an inconvenience to them as well. Which there was already gratuity added to the bill, so even with bad service it doesn't matter for the waiters. I don't mind gratuity being added to bills usually but at this place the service was so bad I was a little annoyed. Which I did not add any more tip because of it. Ordered takeout from the new Barracks Row location and came home to a mediocre experience. First, the appetizers: The Scallion Pancake was very well done; very oily, but that's to be expected. 5/5, easily. The Shrimp Dumplings were decent, but are larger and juicier at the Woodley Park location. 3.5/5. The 3 entrees we ordered were fine. The Beef Chow Fun or Dry Beef Chow on this location's menu lacked any complexity of flavor; the saltiness from the soy sauce that generally defines this dish was lacking. The ratio of beef to noodle was low and the noodles themselves were somewhat overdone. The ratio of beansprouts and green onions to noodles was also less than ideal. The dish was, however, pretty large and did well when reheated for another meal. 3/5 for this dish. The Salt & Pepper Tofu was the biggest failure of the experience and was, for the most part, inedible. The tofu tasted like it had been made the night before and then refried for our lunch the next day. The coating to tofu ratio was too high and the oil was likely old as well. The actual tofu was tough and many of the cubes themselves were almost hollow. This item was not enjoyable at all and deserving of a 1/5. The Kung Pao Chicken was one of the better dishes we tried, but it was not without its flaws: the ratio of peanuts to chicken was very high and the chicken pieces weren't very big. I dined here with just my husband and when the bill came, I was surprised to see an automatic 18% tip added to the bill. We were not notified about the automatic 18% by any of the staff, nor was a advisory presented on the menu or anywhere in the restaurant. According to DC law, restaurants *must* CLEARLY DISCLOSE fees before diners order. We were literally not informed at any point. After receiving the bill, I asked for a menu to ensure I hadn't overlooked the 18% automatic gratuity thing-- nope it wasn't on there either. TikTok brought me to this location... As soon as I saw AYCE dim sum I was like COUNT ME IN! I believe the AYCE menu is only offered at this location. They have two menu options (A- $38/pp & B-$48/pp). A is mostly dumplings, noodle/rice dishes, and congee. Option B adds some meat dishes and Chinese American dishes. My husband and I opted for Option A because we feel at dim sum we typically stick with more dumpling dishes anyway. I also opted to add on bottomless mimosas ($18/pp) because I didn't have to drive anywhere! On to the food. There is a decent selection on each menu. We tried a lot of dishes-- har gow, shumai, steamed bbq pork buns, congee, seafood pan fried noodles, lamb dumplings, purple yolk buns, and more! The food came out hot and fast and my mimosa never got less than 1/4 full. The food was pretty good but some of the dim sum reminded me of the dumplings you can get pre-made and steam at home at the Asian market. NOT saying for sure that's how these dumplings were made (just speculating), but not convinced they were super fresh. Overall, I think it's worth the novelty experience at least once. We looked at the price between the food we wanted and the all you can eat menu and decided it was less expensive to just order food off the original menu. What a great find for authentic Chinese food. We are visiting for the holidays and decided to check out Han Palace for dim sum lunch. The restaurant is relatively small with limited seating so I would advise a reservation though I couldn't easily find how to make a reservation online but presume you can call directly. Nice ambiance with a neat decorative tree inside - tasteful, not kitschy. They had soup dumplings, pork dumplings, scallion pancake, jook, gai lan, etc. Nice array of dim sum options.
