Heaven and Hell is the best way to describe this little gem tucked away in the lower parts of Kalihi. The food is one of the best out there....But this little gem has a little secret. THEY SUCK WHEN IT COMES TO CUSTOMER SERVICE! They advertise their buffet as all you can eat. But they limit you in what you can get. Over the past year I've heard about their SHITTY service. But that didn't bother me since they was always nice to me and my friends. Then it happened! SMH! (Shaking My Head) In the middle of our service we ordered our 5th plate of lettuce. Our usual server takes our order and leaves. Then this GRUMPY OLD MAMA SAN delivers it to us and says "This is your last order of lettuce and gives us the stink eye and blurts out a loud TSK! We were in shock! Her rude behavior destroyed our appetite to eat. I was in awe and disappointed because I have been bringing my workout group of at least 5 or 10 people to this establishment for many months and have given them some good business and this is how we get treated? My friends and I paid our bill and walked out the place without giving them a tip. As we hang around our cars talking about the event the GRUMPY OLD MAMA SAN comes out and tells us we forgot to leave them a tip. We've been here several times already for the AYCE yakiniku dinner special for about $23 a head. Not too bad if you're a meat lover as they offer about 15 types of different meats. It really is a hole in the wall place in the heart of Kalihi by the post office. Parking is limited as it shares among other restaurants and stores in the area. Anytime before 6pm, you can usually score good parking. This is our go to spot for yakiniku dinners since it's near where we live and we usually get seated quick compared to other similar places where I've experienced more than an hour wait. We always get seated right away here. Service here is mediocre. Not the greatest since language barriers always makes it difficult to get what you want in a quicker manner. Wow this place is still around?! I remember my parents bringing me here when I was growing up and those massive silver eel like fish in the tank near the back that the previous owner kept. The boyfriend wanted to get out of the house after being cooped up for 2 days sick and Han Yang was his choice for dinner tonight. It still has the same sketchy parking lot with surrounding bars. Its amazing of how the area hasn't changed at all. I think its actually gotten sketchier. You wouldn't think a delicious Korean BBQ restaurant is tucked away at the back there. If you are willing and brave enough to venture into this area of Kalihi be prepared to know of what you want to order as soon as you sit down or get attitude from the waitress. Literally as soon as my butt hit the booth seat, a waitress came over, pad and pen in hand wanting to know of what we wanted to order. We asked her to come back. Then 30 seconds later she asked again? There are other patrons in the restaurant, why don't you go ask them of how they are all doing? So we ask her to give us more time. She comes back a 3rd time after 1 minute and we are still deciding and she grumbles and sends a different waitress over to us that is equally unfriendly to serve us for the rest of the night. Wow, we're sorry to be such an inconvenience to you! All we want to do is give you business and our money! Perhaps the concept of TIP is not on your radar?! Minus two stars for customer service. Located in Kalihi near the Kalihi-Palama Post Office and in the same center at Diner's this small Korean place packs a punch. I always say, the food must be good if its crowded and you see people of that origin in a place eating. I would have to say that every time Ive gone, there is sos many Koreans in there and some local people. I have come to like many dishes here: Spicy Pork - This is one of my favorites. At $10, you get a lot more than other places. Depending on how "spicy" you want it, they can make it. The pork is cooked really well and its not tough. Even though they give you a knife, you really don't need it. Yuk He Jung - The "Spicy" Soup. Im not sure if I should be saying this but the redness does stain the bowl that they give you when you do take out. This does give you a little hint at how red this soup can be. This soup is perfect for those days when you feel like a cold is coming on. It will clear the sinus, the just open everything up. Yuk Hei - Seasoned raw beef. Not for everyone as it is raw but on the frozen side. Eat this with the cucumbers or apples and you will be in love. Yes it sounds gross but so delicious. Lunch Bento - For $8 you can get an assortment of many of there favorite dishes. Chicken, Mandoo, Beef and all the vegetables. This place is also known for there all you can eat Yakiniku. I haven't tried it yet but it gets crowded during the lunch and dinner times. I can't confirm if they give you a time limit or to what extent they allow the all you can eat, but based on what I've already tried, one of these days I will need to get there. I can't give it the max stars as the inside of the places does feel old. Im sure with all the cooking that goes on at table side, the grease is what stains the walls and the floors. Too bad the Soju isn't all you can drink lol! Place is divided into 2 sections. One for regular ordering and the other for Yakiniku style cooking. Never tried the regular ordering style side of this joint, but the meats at the Yakiniku is great so it must be good! Spicy Pork is my favorite here and the Kalbi. I feel like the only downside to here is the lack of ventilation. You smell like Yakiniku when you're done. There was no vent about the grill so it kinda just goes all over the place. This restaurant is terrible. Dining here for the all you can eat was a horrible experience. I didn't know if I should laugh or cry! For our first round, we ordered five different meats including tongue, kalbi, pork belly, and brisket. A plate came covered with four of the meats, beef on top. While cooking, we found that the layer of beef on top, was just a thin, single layer of beef. The bottom was full of pork belly. We probably got a half order of each beef and about 3 orders of pork belly. For our second round, we were getting full (of pork belly) so we ordered a small order of tripe and intestine just so we had enough for each of us to try some. We received what looked like full orders of both. We were cooking these items but for some reason, the server came and turned off the stove so we couldn't thoroughly cook these items that obviously have to be cooked thoroughly. My wife wanted bi bim bap (a simple inexpensive rice dish with vegetables and meat) what she got was rice..a decent amount of vegetables and a "dab" (wish i took a pic) not a serving but a "dab" not even enough meat to put on a teaspoon. I normally take service...cleanliness..atmosphere...staffs demeanor...time ...price ...portions taste and parking into consideration before i dull out a review but since it was takeout the only categorys apply is staff demeanor time...taste...price...and portions. After reading the reviews on this place, I just had to come to see this place for myself. Yes, it is in a decrepid place in Kalihi and the prices here do seem quite high, but I can assure you that it's not that all bad. You just need to develop some thick skin when you wander around the area. I came here for a casual lunch with my co-workers, who wanted to go to somewhere different that the same old places. After deciding on coming here for a change of pace, I didn't like the place to be old and dingy when we walked it. Almost like an aging Chinese restaurant that needed to be majorly improved or something like that. This place was big, but not too big. Not too much people eating here, and I suspect why. This place gave me the creeeps, but I shouldn't really care though, at least I was with friends here. The prices seemed a bit steep for the amount of food we ordered, but whatever. Turns out that I wasn't picking up the tab anyways, so that was awesome. For myself, I ordered the spicy pork and meat jun combo. The meat jun could have been better cooked, but it was good all the same. I asked for white rice too, so that I could have some carbs with my rice. The service was pretty good, although it can be better. Even the decor and ambiance should get a major face lift, but it was enjoyable, although kinda weird. Han Yang is a great alternative to Sikdorak. They have a $19.99 all you can eat Yakiniku with 15 types of meats to choose from. My friends and I managed to taste 7 of the 15. Of those 7, my favorites had to be the beef tongue, bbq pork and brisket. This restaurant is located in Kalihi next to the post office near Farrington HS. There are a lot of parking stalls available. We came in at 6:15pm and found parking within seconds of coming into the lot. Of course, they do share parking with other restaurants and bars in that area. You'd expect a small space prior to coming in but it's semi decent. It's obviously more spacious than Sikdorak. And it's very sanitary. It doesn't really smell like smoke, but then again, there were only two tables cooking when we came in. I was also surprised that I didn't smell that bad after I ate and the smoke kept going towards my bf and I. Service was surprisingly good considering previous experiences I've received from other Korean restaurants. Our server actually smiled and only gave us a huff once. This is all due to our grill always burning. She changed it 5 times. Apparently, cooking a few meats at a time made the grill burn faster. lol. Well at least she told us straight up. Other workers also came to check on our waters and would walk around occasionally to see if anything was needed. As for the meats, they were pretty good. As mentioned, I really loved the beef tongue, bbq pork and brisket. I can't wait to try the others that we haven't yet tasted. From my observations though, portion size depends on the meat they give and probably by the number of people eating in the group. There were four of us. They gave a lot for the bbq pork whereas another meat, like the tongue, wasn't that much. BE WARNED THOUGH: YOU CAN ONLY GET THREE MEATS AT A TIME. You choose the strength of the spiciness and I have it on good authority that it's good. It comes out boiling in a stone pot. And it's delicious with rice mixed in. Also delicious are the kim chee pancakes with sauce. The accompanying dishes of kim chee, bean curd, potato, kim chee cucumber, etc. are all delicious as well. Haven't been here in years! Definitely a hole in a wall type of place. My boyfriend and I stopped going because of the poor service, how they raised their price and it just wasn't worth it anymore.. but we wanted to try it out again one more time! Recently saw that they have a new price for AYCE yakiniku. $19.99 per person. They have recently "renovated" but honestly it just looks like they just added new paint/color to the place that's it. We were the first ones to arrive to sit at the yakiniku section. We made our first order of 4 choices out of 15 meat options. More customers came in, so we waited for our meat at LEAST 15 mins. By that time, we had to order more side dishes because we had already ate them all waiting for our meats. Our grill was creating a lot of smoke because of how blackened our grill was and no body seem to come by to change it, we had already turned it off by then. Took about 10 mins for someone to come and change it. 15% gratuity is automatically added to the bill. Best time to go would be during the day, evenings/nights are the busiest. They only have 2 workers who take orders and set the tables. $20 AYCE is the cheapest you can get nowadays. On top of that the quality of meat is fantastic! Honestly the best yakiniku I've ever had and I've tried them all. (Really I have) best bang for your buck. If you haven't tried it try it. And I've come for the other dishes and they are just as good. Banchan (side dishes) are great. What a pleasant surprise on this day that we celebrate Independence Day! We had lunch with our 94 year old mom today and it was a great experience. The owner made us feel really welcomed and even provided mom with accommodations to sit comfortably in her chair. Now for the lunch. We had the yakiniku buffet and the Strawberry soju with all of our meat selections being tender and of great quality! The soju was very refreshing since we were cooking on our own. Did I mention the cost? What a deal at$19.99 for all you can eat. We definitely will be back. May the Fourth be with you!!! read more

I'm not usually a huge fan of Korean food but I ate here with coworkers the other day. I didn't order anything but I tried a bit of all theirs and they ordered a lot!!! There was spicy soup with seafood and tofu. There was pork and fish jun and mandoo. There was plenty of little plates with Kim chee and other veggies. I liked it all and would definitely order something next time. You get a lot of food so go hungry! Only thing was the soup had huge chunks of octopus. Hard to eat/chew. This place is my favorite AYCE Korean BBQ! You can choose the AYCE section or ala carte section. The many times I've been here, we would eat in the AYCE section. FOOD -- AYCE Korean BBQ $24.99 per person. I have to say that the meat that they offer are better than other AYCE Korean BBQ restaurants. My favorite meats are the Brisket Meat, Beef Tongue, Garlic Kobe Meat & Pork Belly. You can never go wrong with Brisket & Pork Belly. Brisket cooks quickly, so this meat can satisfy your hunger while you wait for the rest of the meats to cook. The variety of sides are also good: tossed salad, kimchee, bean sprouts, choi sum, shoyu potato, & others. Every time I come here, I run out of their signature dipping sauce. The combo of the meat, sauce & rice satisfies me all the time. Even if I smell like BBQ at the end of the meal, I will continue to return. We've ordered their kimchee pancake a few times from the ala carte side, and it does not disappoint. PARKING -- They have a parking lot that they share with various restaurants in the area. A few times we would have to wait to get parking. SERVICE -- *NOTE: Gratuity is automatically added to the end of the bill* Service could use some work. They are very attentive when you first walk in to the restaurant and when you order your food. They don't give you a bill, you just go up to the register and they add up without telling you they automatically add 15% tip. Many customers don't realize that and write in another 15% when they sign the credit card receipt. Kinda deceitful that they don't tell you upfront. read more
