I finally got the chance to try Hanabusa! I arrived around noon, and surprisingly, it wasn't busy at all. After placing my order, they informed me that it would take about 20 minutes to prepare the pancakes. I didn't mind the wait. I ordered the Ube Pancakes. The pancakes were delicious and fluffy and light. However, I found the ube flavor to be a bit subtle; I was hoping for a stronger ube taste, but it didn't quite stand out as much as I anticipated. The fruits that came with the pancakes were a lovely addition and complemented the pancakes. The store itself was cute and pink. Really cute place to take photos or have a date.

If I'm ever in the South Bay I'll come here for fluffy Japanese pancakes now that Gram pancakes in the city closed. The décor is very light with a lot of whites and pastel pinks and there are a lot of windows so the café is always bringing in sunshine. Flowers decorate all the tables which is a nice touch. I got the chocolate pancake which was good, I love chocolate everything but I'd like to also try the strawberry and matcha because you get to drizzle that sauce on. The presentation of their pancakes was pretty but for a place that cares a lot about aesthetics I wasn't impressed that they served their drinks in paper cups. Everything else was so planned out that I'm not sure why they skimped out on this.

The soufflé pancakes were good which was mainly what we went for. However, the drinks were bad, so don't order any fruit teas or milk teas, they tasted like straight syrup and artificial. I got the matcha pancakes btw. The place is pretty cute on the inside. Can't speak on service since you only order and pick up ur food at the front once the buzzer buzzes.

This place is mega delicious! It's small, but super well-lit, with lots of tables. It's one of the places where you walk in, order, they give you a number and your food is brought out in about 15-20 minutes. It's not super expensive and the pancakes are pretty damn tasty. They have different options, which come as a flavored one and a regular (soufflé) one. They're very mildly flavored and do take a minimum of 15 minutes to come out, and they have a few coffee / tea options available, so you can still drink something while you wait.

The pancakes are unique for the area and do take some time to prepare, about 25min even when it isn't busy. They are soft and fluffy, however do taste eggier than expected. If that isn't your preference this may not be the place for you. The strawberry sauce that came with the pancakes was pretty light in flavor and didn't really add much to the pancakes. The vibes are generally nice, there's outdoor and indoor seating. For a dessert / snack after another meal it works great, however this wouldn't be enough food for a breakfast or single meal.

We got there at opening time on a weekend so the wait for pancakes was not bad at all I like that there's lots of windows & it was bright & clean & there's games to play with as u wait. I thought there would be more cuter decor - but it's actually fairly basic. Parking was easy. Restroom was clean. Service is fine- not a lot since u order at the counter, pick up food, bus your own table. Main event of course are the pancakes! We got original, matcha & strawberry- the pancake base is the same for all- it's the toppings which differentiate the flavors. The fruit was fresh which I loved as un-fresh fruit is a pet peeve. Matcha sauce was good, cream in strawberries also yum. Drink selection is kind of meh, it was cute & delicious, but I did find myself craving a side of bacon or something salty to break up the carb/sugar fluff.

The pancakes were fluffy and not too sweet. The service was around 30-60 minutes for us, but they do have sign saying that the pancakes take a while (30 minutes to cook). The pancakes were super fresh and airy. The inside is aesthetic and pink!! Perfect place to take pics.

The pancakes were fluffy and good, I'm not a big pancake fan but these were better than I thought it'd be! Loved the pink and decor in the cafe too. Service was a little slower than expected, especially since we were in the only ones in the cafe at the time.

I went in on a Sunday morning and the place was relatively empty. The inside was a very white aesthetic but nothing else too special. We got the Matcha and Strawberry souffle pancakes and it took about 15-20 minutes to receive them. The pancake itself was fluffy and had a nice texture to them: Matcha Souffle (5/5): Highly recommend, esp if you like matcha. The matcha you pour over the pancakes is not too sweet and doesn't distract you from the fluffiness of the pancake. Strawberry Souffle (3/5): It wasn't a bad choice but it is very sweet and creamy. If you don't have a huge sweet tooth, I don't reccomend this but otherwise it is alright.

This was my first time trying souffle pancakes, despite wanting to try them for years. Some friends recommended this place so we went all together. The shop is super aesthetic and great for small groups. Pretty much just counter service - you get a buzzer and you pick up your order. The pancakes are made to order, but it takes 25 minutes. They do offer card games to keep you entertained during the wait though. I've heard that some fluffy pancakes deflate if you don't eat them fast enough, but it doesn't seem like an issue here. I didn't dig into my plate until 10 minutes later since one of my friends was still waiting for his order. I ordered the matcha pancakes and it's basically just the regular fluffy pancakes with a pour-over matcha topping on the side. It would've been cool to have actual green matcha pancakes though. The pancakes came loaded with whipped cream and the strawberries weren't the sweetest but were a great contrast to the pancakes and sweet matcha topping. In the end, the pancakes with the matcha topping ended up being too sweet and heavy for me, so I felt a bit nauseated. I do want to come back and try the original pancakes on their own though.

Food: If you're here for the soufflé pancakes, then by all means!! SUPER FLUFFY YUMMY PANCAKES!! Kind of expensive but it is not easy to make on your own! Ambiance/Service: Very polite/friendly service! They do have you clean after yourself, but other than that the place does look nice and clean!

I finally made it to Hanabusa after years of watching it in the neighborhood! We went for Mother's Day, right at opening since I was worried it would be crowded. Found a table right away and put our order in at the counter. The food: I loved it! I got the Ube pancakes (seasonal) but our group tried all 5 options on the menu: ube, matcha, strawberry, plain and chocolate. The Ube is a little subtle but tastes good and looks beautiful. The matcha is the least sweet and has a decently strong matcha flavor so make sure you like that. The strawberry has the strongest flavor and is VERY sweet! I did not taste the chocolate but my son said it tasted like just Nutella scooped on top - he liked it. My other son said the plain is good - esp. if you don't want any of those other flavors, just whipped cream on top. What else you need to know: There's only 4 options of pancakes on the menu (plus maybe seasonal). Plus some drinks (I got a latte). There's no other food, or savory options. You'll pay $15-17 for 3 pancakes + sauce and fruit. They open at 9 and close after lunch or when they run out of food - or early if it's a holiday (like Easter or Mother's Day). There's no reservations, and the pancakes could take up to 30 minutes - we brought Uno to play while we waited, but it only ended up being 10 minutes, I think because we were among the first people there in the morning. The cafe is pretty minimalist but the food looks and tastes great. I enjoyed it a lot and plan to go back sometime.

My coworkers and I came on a Sunday afternoon, a very quiet plaza with plenty of parking and quite an empty cafe (a bit dreary so a cute cafe date was called for). There was only one other table aside form us, there was barley a wait before our orders were received; basically once we sat down and set the table up/got comfy, the orders were ready. Service wise we didn't really take much from it as the only interaction was ordering and grabbing our plates, simple and sweet. We had to bus our own tables and there was a drop off area that was very clearly labeled. Since there was 5 of us and we only wanted a snack, just to give the jiggly pancakes a taste test - we got 3 orders: original, strawberry and matcha. The fruits on the plates were a bit of a hit or miss. Strawberries were very tart, worked well with the sweet pancake, the blueberries were the perfect pop of sweet, and the bananas just didn't seem as ripe. As for the pancakes, it was much more eggy that expected. I did try the jiggly pancake in Japan once (Happy Pancake or something in Ikebukuro) and this was no where near the fluffy or lightness in sweetness to me. The pancakes here were also a little on the dry side (didn't see syrup available), the fluffy whipped cream and strawberry cream/syrup was very much needed. I did like the strong flavor of matcha cream (to pour on the side), it wasn't too overwhelmingly strong but the flavor was prominent. Final Thoughts: This seems like a nice place to chat with friends over a dessert or even get some work done with a snack (free Wifi if I remember correctly). The decor of the plates and etc. make this place very IG pic worthy. I think this may be a one and done for me, but I'm glad I checked this place out.

Hanabusa Café Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Hanabusa Café

Are they opened after water damage closure?

As of February 15th 2025, the Cafe is now open.

Is there a number to call in order?

I don't think you can call in orders.

Is there a number I can call?

There is no number you can call.

Is it eggless? If not can it be made eggless?

I literally tried to go eat the souffle pancakes on Saturday, but they said they could not make any since they ran out of eggs. They cannot make them without eggs was my understanding.

Can come there and order to go food?

    Yes, you can order takeout.

    Do you provide outdoor seating?

There is outdoor seating. I believe maybe two tables, so it is limited.

Hi, I made a reservation for four but was hoping to make a reservation for five?

    No reservations

How do i make a reservation for a group larger than 4? we have 6 that want to come on sat for brunch.

They seem to be pretty good about answering questions so I would post your question. They have delicious pancakes....have fun

Can I call and order in advance before I get there?

No, you have to order in person at the restaurant.

Are the soufflé pancakes gluten free?

I don't think so but you can ping in IG and ask directly.

Are you open on Christmas Eve?

Will i still be seated if i'm 45 min late?

No, I believe they have a 15 or 20 minute grace period policy for late customers. There's usually a long line, so another customer would take your place if you don't make it on time.

Are reservations required for takeout on the weekdays also? And if so, i see the calendar is through December 2nd right now, so the earliest you can book takeout is about a weekout? Thanks

Reservations are not required during the weekdays, but you will still need to wait at least 25-30 minutes for your order to be completed. If very busy then you may need to wait even longer before leaving with your food.

How does the outlet situation look like here? Trying to see if I can work here during a weekday.

Is there a sameday Yelp waitlist on weekends?

I have not seen one. it's usually fully booked by Thursday/Friday. Maybe check on Sunday or Monday when they re-open the reservations...there are limited slots and they book up fast! Plan ahead :)

Will u be open Nov 27th or Nov 28?

Any gluten free options and are there sides like eggs? Is it just soufflé pancakes only?

Just only the pancakes. No gluten free.

Do I need to make reservations to go on the weekend or can we just join the wait list?

It's best to make reservations.. they would only take orders and seat those who made reservations. I had to book a week in advance for a weekend dine in.

My sister and I are looking for cafe's to sit down and get work done and thought this place looked nice. How long are reservations?

Only on the weekend and I don't think there is a time limit since reservations are mostly just for their knowledge of how much pancake mix they can have handy for the day

Are reservations on Yelp only a week out? Also, it says on Yelp the reservations is to place orders only.

Hello! Reservations are only required on the weekends (Saturday and Sunday). We accept only walk-ins on the week days. When you make a reservation on the weekend, you are essentially reserving a time slot to order (we do this because it gets very… Read more

(Underrated luxury.) Now, the hotel itself? Visually... a moment. It looked like someone invested serious money into it, but the design felt a little space-meets-startup-meets-what's-happening-here. Some elements felt elevated, others felt a bit makeshift. I genuinely couldn't tell what the theme was -- futuristic? celestial? boutique-on-a-budget? I'm still processing. The front desk team was clearly well-trained and knowledgeable -- they had every answer, every stat, every rate breakdown ready. But the warmth? Missing. I was hoping for a little storytelling since I'd never heard of the hotel before, and instead got a very matter-of-fact "we've been here five years" energy. Efficient, yes. Inviting, not quite. But let's talk about why you're really here: the coffee shop. Completely different vibe. Two people working, both genuinely happy, welcoming, and quick. We ordered a latte and a matcha to go -- total was about $22, which made me blink for a second -- but then I tasted the matcha. Oh. This wasn't the overly sweet, dusty-green situation you sometimes get. It tasted clean. Real. High-quality. The kind of matcha that feels intentional. I love Firehouse in Marin, but this? This was closer to serious coffee roaster-level quality. Smooth, organic-tasting, beautifully balanced. You could tell they care about what they're serving. Branding was strong, the space was cute, and I could absolutely see myself sitting there with my laptop pretending I'm writing something important. We grabbed ours to go, but it had that easy, airy, "stay awhile" energy. Would I book the hotel? Jury's still out. They don't have an in-house spa and mentioned bringing in third-party services for certain amenities, which made it feel a little less full-service than I expected. Would I go back for the coffee shop? Without hesitation. Delicious drinks, easy parking, quick service, and a vibe that actually makes you want to come back. Sometimes the side character steals the show -- and in this case, it's 100% the matcha.

Today, I was in the mood for something more than a salad (much as I wanted to preset what I had the first time coming here, I made a concerted effort to order something else...), thus I chose the Forager Flatbread. It took less time to make this time (roughly about five minutes after ordering), and when it came out, I marveled at how it looked like a work of art! Just beautiful! Each piece of herbed formage blanc flatbread had a nice, crunchy bottom (but not blackened) and a slightly tanginess, with a a good amount of "hen-of-the-wood" mushrooms, sweet roasted garlic and a bed of arugula. My, oh, my! My first bite was a multi-level extravaganza! The crunch of the bread, followed by the aroma of the herbs and arugula, then the saltiness of the cheese, the sweetness of the roasted garlic, the earthiness of the mushrooms - all came together as just a wonderful work of culinary art! This being my first time eating today, my saliva glands just fired off at first bite, causing a bit of intense pain from too much saliva shooting out. But, seriously, this was a very delicious entree, that I enjoyed from start to finish! Bravo for this second joyous experience!

Craftsman and Wolves is a killer crafts bakery that makes the perfect Kouign-amann. The shop does many things including a signature bread pudding, small in size but big in flava. Measures maybe two and a half inches diameter, an inch thick. Packs a wonderful wowie punch with the seasonally ripe berries and fruit, plus a few pieces of specialty chocolate. My friend who knows from excellent pastries says the goods at C and W are special because the sugars in each item are balanced, not excessive. The goodies we sampled together were scrumptious. Somehow even my pedestrian palate senses that these dessert thingies are distinctive and of ultra quality. Ambiance-wise, it's a noisy place with a few tables lining the windows. Small coffee shop sized with maybe seating for a dozen inside and a few small tables outside. I wasn't too familiar with their offerings, but I did know that it was chef driven and dedicated to quality. And in my short peek, I somewhat was able to confirm that. Drip Coffee (4*) Solid, bold and enough smoothness for me to want to savor it. Not as dark and roasty as Peets but good enough for me, especially to go with their delectable pastries. Kouign Amman (5*) I love B Patisserie's version that is flaky but saturated in buttery sugar, that I can only tolerate 1 of those at a time. Very rich and decadent. I have never seen a version quite like Craftmans and Wolves but that is what I found adoring. The exterior almost seems fried like a doughnut/cronut but totally not sure. It kinda had that bubbled exterior but not blatantly obvious. And there was just enough sugar cooked into it that it made it stealthy sweet, I'd say easily half the amount of sugar as B Pâtisserie's. Not that I would eat 2 of these in one sitting, but I easily could. Croissant Pudding (5*) They do these tiny mini bread puddings that can be heated up. We chose it as is, room temp and it was still fantastic. They use croissants as the 'bread' so it isn't as dense as a regular bread pudding. But their custard to bread ratio was masterful and this version (think they change the variations often) has burst of fresh raspberry and chunks of Dulce which is like a caramelized/browned white chocolate made by Valrhona. (I had to look that ingredient up as I never heard until now.) And to take alternate bites between the flaky and unique Kouign Amman and the creamy and slightly dense pudding with sips of quality black coffee, just initiated me an avid fan of Craftsman and Wolves. Seriously smacks!

I really liked the larger menu of super unique drinks and definitely will be coming back to try a couple more that caught my eye! People are super nice and even though it's busy (for a good reason) there is plenty of parking and places to sit indoors and some outdoors.

I was craving an affogato on a rainy day and Coffee & Water Lab totally hit the spot. The place is…read morereally cute -- I walked in to a lot of people on their laptops, so it definitely has that cozy work-friendly cafe vibe. The drink itself was great! My only complaint is that it came in a very small cup. The price is pretty standard for the Bay Area, but for the size, I was a little disappointed in the value. When you're craving an affogato, you want more than a few spoonfuls! Small cup aside, the quality was there. Perfect rainy day spot.
